Can’t say enough things about this place! Was weary joining due to the cost but we’ve only been members for 2 months and I can’t rave enough about the amazing support of all the instructors and just the cleanliness and convenience of this facility! Kids club is the best as are the classes and the outdoor pool! Love this place :)
Just started and very happy with facilities. Requires membership. Nice staff! Great for swimmers, families and working out.
Very friendly staff. Clean gym.. the pools are always maintained and available. Over all love this gym. Feels like home. Whenever I walk in.
I just joined Merrit Athletic Club last month with my family. The club is well equipped with exercise equipment, dedicated areas for classes (spin, body pump, karate, kick boxing, etc), racquetball & basketball courts and both indoor and outdoor swi pools. They offer child care while we work out as well. I have no complaints thus far and I look forward to my future working out there. They are multiple locations in the Baltimore area where I can work out if I choose.
Merritt Clubs Eldersburg is 10/10, EXCELLENT! I can not put into words the friendliness of the staff, abundant access to quality classes and instructors, cleanliness of the facility, and overall value this business has provided to me. Mental health is very important to me. Merritt Clubs Eldersburg has enabled me to be the best version of myself. The time spent here is invaluable and I thank everyone working at this location for their kindness. Shout out to JR for being an excellent Lifestyle Consultant. I would recommend this business to anyone looking to improve their body, mind, and general well-being.
Perfectly suits my needs for an athletic club, pool, and great summer camp for the kids. Staff is always wonderful, and the facility is very clean. Highly recommend.
I needed a gym that was close to home because my former gym was becoming too much of a drive. This location, while more than double in cost of my old gym, is absolutely worth every penny. The facility is large and spacious, with many types of equipment. I mostly use the cardio area and light weights and there are plenty of those available even at the busiest of times. I have yet to check out the classes, but the rooms they are held in look nice and big with inspired trainers.
I have been a member since June 2020 when Merritt opened again due to covid. I am an avid swimmer and am at the pool 3-4 days per week (The Eldersburg, Maryland Merritt). I love that their is no limit to how long you can swim or when you can swim. The lifeguards are so very friendly and helpful. They all go out of their way to make your experience as great as possible (Especially Tyler and Emily). The locker rooms are spacious, always clean and provide plenty of room to practice social distancing. Overall, the entire staff makes you feel like family. They make a point to greet you when you come in as well as say goodbye when you leave. The only suggestion I would make is it would be great if the pool could transition to salt water rather than chlorine which is so damaging to skin and hair. I would definitely be willing to pay more a month if this is a possibility. Again, this place is wonderful and I highly recommend Merritt to everyone.
Which is more conducive to preventing the spread of COVID(and overall less gross): Providing your clients with towels for them to wipe their sweat, thus preventing the spread of germs and COVID or providing nothing so your clients sweat all over the equipment?Merritt seems to think it’s cleaner for people to sweat all over everything. Absolutely vile and revolting. The manager should be ashamed. COVID is not an excuse considering towels will be washed after each use in hot water. People are not bring their own towels and we probably all know that people aren’t diligent about cleaning equipment after using it. Thank god I don’t live in the area and am only subjected to Merritt when I visit my parents. My gym in VA has been providing towels the entire time COVID has been around. I’m shocked at all the positive reviews on Google and how low people’s standards have fallen.
Merritt Eldersburg has been a wonderful place for me and my family. I feel confidant leaving my child in the hands of the friendly kid zone staff. Its nice to know my daughter can get exercise and interaction in a safe space while Im working out. With COVID I was hesitant to get back into a gym but theyve done an excellent job with making sure everyone is spaced out appropriately and there are always people around sanitizing.Every interaction with the people who work here has been extremely pleasant.
Great club! Strong value for your $$$. Facilities are excellent. Staff is friendly and the focus on keeping members safe during the pandemic is reassuring.
The staff are very friendly and professional. The facility is clean and the equipment is well maintained. I have noticed that the members are friendly and respectful to one another which makes it a comfortable workout environment. I recommend this gym to anyone who wants quality staff, equipment, facility and fellow club members. :)
I use the pool.. for therapy and relaxation. The teachers are great!
Left Athens 2 years ago because it was too crowded and have been at the Eldersburg Merritt since. Plenty of free weights to use even at the busiest times. Staff is extremely friendly. Brought an issue up that I had via an emailed survey and was immediately contacted by Rob who was extremely generous with the resolution. Some might say the gym is overpriced, but after taking a tour of Golds in Eldersburg and being a former Athens member, I say you get what you pay for. Merritt all the way. (I really wish they allowed lifters to use chalk though!)
I had been away from the gym for a while. I decided to start back up now that I have more time on my hands since my kids can drive themselves everywhere. It was an easy process to resignup. Michelle has been great getting me setup with goals and monitoring my progress.I really love the variety of equipment and find that I never have to get stuck doing the same thing all the time. Looking forward to getting into some classes!
If youre looking for a place to work out during this covid-19 pandemic, or even after, this is a great place! Large enough to maintain social distancing and friendly enough to ask for and receive help. Give it a try and Im sure you will find your reason to become a member!
Very helpful and friendly employees. Great knowledgeable trainers. Huge variety of machines and equipment. Extremely clean facility.
Very clean facility, excellent equipment and classes, great 24 hour access!
After being long time loyal members there, we were told our dues were wrong because of a dishonest employee no longer working for the company just trying to earn her commission on a sale, and when we went back recently to possibly rejoin, we were given the cold shoulder by a non-friendly, unhelpful employee.
They are doing an abysmal job of enforcing mask wearing inside of a closed space with a lot of people. Every time I have gone in, there are numerous people sitting around without masks on, working out or not. It makes me feel unsafe, and makes me not want to come to this location to work out.I am not sure why they are so lax with enforcement, but it certainly makes me question the value of my membership when even the most BASIC covid protocol isnt being enforced.
Clean friendly people, nice workout, and good for your health! A nice group of people attending!
Love the eldersburg Merritt. The staff is friendly and keeps the building nice and clean. The building is semi large with is lots of room and equipment but not in an overwhelming way.
Merritt is the Cadillac option of local gyms. In the past I have sought a more economical option and always regretted the decision before long.
I cant find anything about the covid restrictions on your site. I came in after things started to open up and the guy at the desk went into very nice detail about what was available and what was not and rules: pool, showers, towels, soap, sauna, steam, equipment, etc... I know Friday there was some additional loosening of restrictions but I dont know how it impacts Merritt. My membership is on pause now but I want to come back. It seems something as important and easily quantifiable as what is available and rules should be readily available on your site like the banner for: ALERT for LABOR DAY HOURS. Am I missing something?
Great bunch of people there
Very clean gym, has one of the best dumbell selections of any gym Ive ever been to. The staff is friendly and helpful. I couldnt ask for anything more
Attended a birthday party at the indoor pool and it was amazing! The staff member assisting the party was friendly and great! The pool was warm and my kids had a blast! It was nice to have pool noodles and toys already there. The indoor space was large and decorated nicely by staff as well! The club was clean and everyone was great!
New gym for me, still getting adjusted unable to really give a fair rating as of now. So far, staff professionalism is good, not crowded, in compliance with COVID -19. Recently my wife was canceled for a class but got there and found out the class was not canceled, she participated in the class but was very uncomfortable due to she was the only one canceled and everyone else was not, were definitely hoping this was not intentional for so many reasons, considering all the things taking place around us concerning racial indifferences. Overall, everything is fairly well, another update wi be forthcoming.
Great facility with friendly staff and positive atmosphere. Very clean.
Merritt Clubs Eldersburg, used to be a good gym for people that enjoy lifting and looking for a good family club.Lately it have been take over by a new team of personal trainer that believe that if you don’t pay them for personal training you are not eligible to access the free weight room during peak times (3:00-5:30pm every week day).It hurt me to say as a long time member, but if you are looking for a gym that treat all gym goes equally, you should look elsewhere.Responding to your respond:I have seen trainers using the room during this time for 1 on 1 adult sessions, so this is false.Cut the BS, I have been a member in that gym for 4 years, the room was never closed during peak times for the general members. You can use the room for personal training, but you can’t block members from using the unique equipment in the room that they are paying for
Ive been a member since 2000. I love it there, along with the staff.
We love it there! Very nice
Fantastic, friendly staff and plenty of clean equipment.
Loved it! Clean, staff attentive!
Edit after their response: Apparently members are just numbers to them. Dont expect reasonable accomodations as theyre more than willing to have you cancel your membership. And I didnt ask for calls to all members, but to those who havent shown up for months while you bill them.I waited months for them to reopen after the March close, finally checking on October 1, 2020 that they were open, and I went back that day. I checked with my relative whose credit card it was being billed to, and he was surprised to see that they had charged him for July, August, and September. No notice was received that the gym was reopening or billing would commence.I asked for those three months to be applied to future months when I actually use the facilities. The billing representative applied one of the months to the November, but refused to apply the rest. She informed me that the primary account member had unsubscribed from emails and I should have been following the gyms social media accounts. In the past, I had requested my email be used and no explanation has been provided for why it was not. Nor for why a quick phone call was not made if youre billing someone but can see they have not used the facilities for months.I responded one more time asking for all three months charged dues to be applied to future months, or I would be cancelling my membership. They again declined and agreed to terminate my membership at the end of November. Its pretty surprising theyd prefer to lose a long time customer rather than apply unused months to future months.
Stopped by with my girls for a birthday party. Peripheral viewpoint- it was neat, the pool, lockers and bathroom. The party room was very spacious and with multiple activities for young children. The staffs were very helpful. 👌The children had fun at the indoor pool and outdoor water play areas. 👌Lifeguards- on point- swiftly saved my girl from near drowning situation. 👍In depth viewpoint- Not too open about membership cost. 🙄As a guest, I expect them to have a readily available information for guests that may be interested in joining the club. I spoke with 3 people before I could get an estimated monthly cost fees.On another note. Its not so heterogeneous. 🤔
We have been members for almost a year and we havent been disappointed. Its a great place to workout but they have so many things for children as well. I personally enjoy the workout classes that are offered. There is plenty of space to get a good workout and so many types of machines and free weights to use. The pool is awesome and when the outdoor area opens, it is a lot of fun with the family. We will be members for a very long time.
Not too crowded, clean, great facility!
Great facility, great staff!
A very well maintained series of equipment with no wait time. The facilities were clean and I saw the management circulate amongst the guest on several occasions during my visit. Easy recommendation for those looking...
Great Gym! Great pool for kids. Gets crowded after 10 but they have plenty of equipment. Staff is very helpful and attentive. I go daily for 2 hours and its always clean.
Merritt has some great facilities and top notch equipment. They have a physical therapy clinic located inside as well beside the racquetball courts. They have very friendly staff and ample parking outside. The pool is nice and they also have a play area for the kids. They have an indoor basketball court as well that appears to always be running some pickup games.
Staff is great! Equipment is nice. Very happy with the whole experience!
Spotless, sanitized, Im comfortable working out there.
Nice gym reasonable membership
Pricey but with it if you can afford it. Clean, the pool is great, group class instructors are knowledgeable. I wish you could sign up without being committed to a year. They were also a little weird about giving the pricing to add my husband to my existing membership without going through the whole song and dance of sitting down and talking to someone.
Awesome place to have fun. Went to a birthday party here and I am also a member. I originally became a member for the year round indoor pool. They have a play area for the kids while you are using the other facilities with teM members there monitoring. They use wrist bands to identify the kids and you leave your contact info with the team just in case. They offer a variety of classes like swimming or dance lessons. Even writing proficiency as well as massages! Life guards are always on duty. Outdoor pool area has a pretty cool whirlpool, 3 slides (2 kid friendly ones and 1 thats a bit more fun) fountain area in about 1/8th inch of water that flows to a 6 inch area. From there it.goes to 3 to 4 feet. Inside pool area has one side with a separate pool for laps and the other side has a pool for just having fun. Sometimes they run classes in part of that pool so it gets roped off but those 2 pools are indoors. They have family restrooms with a shower and changing area including for infants. Regular restrooms as well. Men and women showers and lockers also available.
I Love this gym. I Love the variety of classes it offers. My children love going to the play area, and the heated pools offer a refreshing activity during the cold winter months. The staff is so helpful, and is willing to go above and beyond to make sure all your health needs are met. The Merritt even has a new restaurant that offers many types of food that all can enjoy
Horrible customer service and management. Notified verbally in advance that I would need to cancel my month to month membership so they dont charge my card. Because of their front personal didnt put any notes or told me that Im actually MUST be present and sign some papers 10 days prior to the cancellation they still charged my card. Manager was rude and didnt care at all. Wow me and my family have been a member for 3 years and thats what you get. Shame on you Merritt!
I have been very impressed with the quality of care being taken with the pools since I have rejoined Merritt Eldersburg. I left three years ago because the pool quality had gone so far downhill. I also have to give a shout out to Nancy, the early morning Lifeguard for her friendliness and her willingness to step in and take an Aqua Aerobics class this past Tuesday at the last minute. Thank you to the pool management and keep up the quality of work. Bonnie Ritchie
The gym is great during the day and the group class instructors are wonderful. Unfortunately it is not actually open 24hrs like posted on the website. We just left the Eldersburg location where every single door is locked up and we were not able to access any part of the gym. We never had this issue at the other 24hr locations.
I recently joined again after being away for about 10 years. They have a lot of amenities, they are very friendly and keep the place very clean. There is a new person that walks around cleaning and keeping things supplied. He is on top of it.
Im not sure why anyone would post negative comments about this facility. I have been a member for several months and my experience has been 5 star. The staff is very friendly, the place is clean, equipment is plentiful and maintained. And it is only 2 minutes from home.
Outstanding Place! Great Employees.Great trainers. Pool area is outstanding. Lots of great classes to choose from for anyone at any age.
All they worry about is money terrible management
Lots of options, not ever really crowded. I can swim laps, use free weights, sign up for classes, and run indoors without any troubles.
I felt the need to write this review to warn other parents about this location. Last month I was working with a personal trainer who uses the name Sarah, I had brought my 14 year old daughter with me. While working with this trainer she had presented a cheerful and fun personality at first which made me comfortable, I had left for a few minutes during a a training session and my daughter stayed in the room with her, when I returned I over heard the trainer engaging in sexual conversation with my 14 year old. The trainer quickly stopped when she saw me returning. After we got home, my daughter explained in detail her sexual conversation with Sarah which was rather shocking and made me feel extremely violated. I never returned to that club and I highly warn people to use caution when going there.
Love this gym, so much variety, great classes and instructors..
I am home on military leave and one of the managers was extremely nice to me as well as everyone at the front desk I have met. This is a super staff and the club itself is very clean. I will continue to visit Merritt in Eldersburg when I’m in the area.
Love this gym!The gym and all the equipment including the large pool, (down to the showers!) are always clean, the staff members are always friendly, sociable and knowledgeable. There is a decent amount of traffic however the gyms size is accommodating as to never let me have a day without availability to some their equipment. This equipment might I add, helped me lose 20 pounds in the course of 3 months in addition to some MAJOR cardio improvements. There are always activities in this gym and just adds to the lively atmosphere. After seeing other locations, I definitely vote this my favorite! Very glad I signed up and take advantage of it often. Oh and they always have that free cup of coffee when I leave! :D
The Merritt Gym I joined changed their breast cancer awareness balloons from latex to Mylar for me last Thursday, due to my severe latex allergy. So I was able to go back to the gym this week and was coached on pool exercises to strengthen the muscles around my joints! 😊 Michelle at Merritt has coached me above and beyond the call of duty! :) :) :)
Been a member for a while, machines are good, video good and can be seen most everywhere, pool is nice. Recently though the steam room has been degraded to just a constant lukewarm trickle instead of decent bursts of steam that make it hot enough to sweat in. This is one of the main reasons I go here. Disappointing
This is a very nice gym. It has anything you would want. As an African American, I dont feel very comfortable there. People look and stare like you shouldnt be there.
Great pool and equipment. Very helpful and friendly staff.
Great gym for the whole family. I do wish they had some powerlifting platforms though.
Been coming here for over 10 years for their gym, I also liked the art classes they had to offer and both my daughter and I live their outdoor pool area and the comfort of their indoor pools
I have had two wonderful experiences with my first classes of yoga with Abby, the yoga instructor. She was so helpful and considerate of a first timer. I will go back to her class in a heartbeat! Bonnie Ritchie
24hrs... not at all. The gym has hours.. they open at 5am and close at 10pm, during the week. I was use to other Merritt clubs which has one or two people working overnight. Not here! You get a hotel style workout room, thats crowded with equipment like it was designed to be a storage room or a display room. One of the comments on here, a manager responded back stating they did a survey and people didnt use the 24 HR gym (aka storage room) enough to show a need for staffing. Yeah well thats because the people who would use your gym at those times are using other gyms now. I walked in and seen the 24hr section and literally lost any interest in this facility. Im paying for a 24 HR gym that cant even pay one employee to sit at the front desk and watch TV or fold towels to allow convienece to the members who need to be in earlier than 5. FYI Merritt, your survey will always show not enough users after hours because no one wants to workout in a storage unit.
If you’re an adult without kids, don’t go for the pool! You’ll waste your time repeatedly getting kicked out just after you get in, as there will be a team, class, lesson, or group taking over shortly. And the outdoor pool, in recent years they did away with the adult swim. So if you try, you’ll feel like you’re in a Star Trek episode covered in Tribbles.Highly overpriced, even for a daycare.
Nice club but cmon minimum time to join is 1 year??? Then all kind of process to submit if it is a no go. Get with the times and offer a monthly option for seasonal and multi athlete club enrollees
The club is clean, beautiful, and filled with excellent work-out equipment, terrific pools, and friendly staff members. Joe Schiavone, the manager, is the friendliest, most helpful manager Ive ever met!
9 months after cancelling our membership (due to an out of state move) we are being charged membership fees. I have called local and corporate numbers to rectify the issue. I have been passed from person to person. While they acknowledge their mistake, no one seems to have the authority to correct it. Furthermore, they seem to think it is my place to continue trying to contact employees who may or may not be able to assist us. Not only am I out the amount I am being charged, but I am also out the time that I have spent trying to correct Merritts mistake. Time is money.
Worst gym ever! zero stars. They dont respect your needs! Mediocre equipment including pool!been a member of Columbia Association for over 7 years and now Merritt is just a pain.DONT go there!go to Golds Gym go to JCC anywhere where sails reps will respect your needs as well as theirs!
I wish there was a 0 star option because Merritt let go of a 5/5 employee over cheeseballs! Merritt represents a fascist corporate organization uses and takes advantage of their teenage employees. I will never work or give money to Merritt ever again. Shame on Merritt and those who work there. #justicefornick
Worth every penny. Quality childcare. Nice pools.
Was treated with disrespect because they thought I was too skinny to join the gym even though I wanted to join to stay active and healthy. Was given a 14 day pass to try out the gym and they only let me in for only the first 3 days. Just an over all bad experience.
Horrible and unethical staff. Outrageous high membership prices. Broken equipment, poor quality pool water. Your money is better spent elsewhere.
The only thing I like is the basketball gym and its not always available. They use it for personal training purposes, daycare, volleyball, kids training, etc The staff is OK, I really dont mind them. They play the whole social economics type of role for the families, I personally wouldnt let gym personell take care of my children. The trainers always hog the gym they never scat
Clean, friendly staff, great swimming and tons of great classes. My kids love it and so do I!
Pleasant staff, spacious facilities, pool is clean and uses a process so there is NOT a lot of chlorine, facility kept clean and equipment maintained and repaired quickly.
The kids zone is amazing. All of the kid zone staff are so loving towards my 3 and 6 year old.
Staff members are friendly and helpful. Machines and classes offered, including dance classes for all ages.
Trying to cancel my wife has been a terrible experience, she has notified the accounting dpt February 16, received a email confirmation that the cancellation was being processed. Come to find out this morning that our bank account has been charged for the month of March, We call up the location and are being told that she needs to go there in person. This is not the first occurrence, we had the same issue a couple of years ago. This is so inconvenient. I am expecting the same level of service at cancellation time as the time when I signup. This is an disguised Technic to grab another month subscription and there is no excuse in this day and age where there is plenty means to do so.
You might be impressed with the facility, but once your into a legally binding contract, the true colors show. Aside from being the most expensive gym in the Baltimore and DC area (even though they are only in the Baltimore area), when issues arise nothing gets done. Management fell apart with the termination of the previous GM, my wife and I were violently harassed and she was insulted and nothing was done. One of the personal trainera inflicted an injury on me and lastly when that was confronted with management I got slandered by the defending trainer. Several legal charges are pending against the club. If you want a gym honestly choose one of the cheaper ones, all you really need is cardio and weights, all that extra amenities are not justified. Good luck making your choice.
2010: Ive been a member for a few months. Very nice experience so far. Nearby clubs have only free weights or plate-loaded machines. Merritt has everything. Facility kept clean and equipment maintained and repaired quickly. Large parking lot. Nice pool -- indoor and out with heated arthritis pool. Good hours. No aggressive marketing and reasonable contract terms. They dont accept up-front payment for a year, because they are not bonded. Only offer pay-as-you-go options.2011 Update: I am still and member and still satisfied. This gym has a very active seniors membership, principally in the pools. This is good to see. Excluding the pool, the average age of the morning crowd is probably around 45. The gym is more lively in the evenings. Their classes are well attended, and many folks sign up for personal trainers. The one extraordinary advantage of this particular gym is its space. It is large, has a full basketball court, raquetball courts, pools, and plenty of special purpose rooms. There are two quiet rooms without televisions and not crammed with machines for stretching, yoga, etc.2013 Update: Overall the gym is still excellent and the best in the area. They are presently improving the gym floor, probably in light of the upcoming opening of Golds Gym nearby. I have noticed that Merritt is not very serious about fire safety. The fire exits in the basketball court where they conduct their kids summer camps were/are not well maintained. The fire lane is frequently blocked by trucks and dumpsters, and the fire extinguishers are not inspected. I mention this just in case. Otherwise, the club is still excellent.03/14/2013 Addendum: The gym manager showed me a summary of a 02/13 inspection by the state fire marshal. The gym was found to have no problems. :)
Never had an issue at this gym. Big parking lot. Nice womens section. Plenty of cardio equipment. Friendly staff. The 24 hr part is Ok.
All around good staff, clean, great place to would out and the kids love the pool.
Beware if you sign up for Cake decorating cake here. It is very falsely advertised by stating take your cake decorating skills to the the next level 6-9th graders. The kids went to camp and drew on aprons, spoons, paper everything but cake. Finally on Friday last day of camp in the last 3 hours they were handed a pre made single layer round cake and a can of frosting. Some cereal was brought in and a little fondant. However all their literature says they teach decorating skills, techniques and to use fondant . Not a single teenage counselor there knew how to this . No real baker or chef. Huge disappointment and waste of $300. I complained to camp director and club manager no response . Once they get your money they could care less. It was an awful experience for these 11-14 year olds.
Superb facility. Well worth the price.
Great gym. The only reason its not 5 stars is the lack of hot tubs.
Agape physical therapy there is amazing, and the front desk people are beyond friendly!
Excellent staff. Courteous. Friendly.
This gym is GREAT! The staff is super friendly and the gym is very clean.
Pools ok, but they dont sell any food or drinks but smoothies...very dissatisfied. The gym and classes are good though if you are looking for daily exercise
Great gym. Lots of options and always clean and organized.
Super staff, wonderful facilities and the best Zumba instructor on earth!
Nice family fun
