Hi i have a red eared slider turtle that i found wondering outside our apartment. i cant take care of it anymore. Are you guys accepting these types of fresh water turtles?
WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. On Sunday i went to this place to adopt and I was about to take my puppy home when one staff member asked me if i had any other dogs at home. Said yes, one female! And the puppy I was going to take is a male, they did not let me because he is not neutered, which i agreed to, makes sense. Having said that, they asked to call the day after (Monday) so i could finish up the adoption process and ON SUNDAY, THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY ADOPTION FEES. Now they want to charge me $100 for the adoption when they said they were going to respect the free adoption since I did everything on that day. Every time I call, either no one answers the phone or they put me in hold for several minutes without an answer. I love what they do but they really need to have a better customer service.
Do yall have people that foster kittens. Have a stray and 6 new kittens
Staff were very helpful and friendly. I was going through a painful experience searching for my lost cat. Even if she wasnt there when I searched, their willingness to help made this a little more bearable. Keep up the good work guys.
Bad customer service I do not recommend this place. The other location is better.
Great place to find a pet.
I got a puppy not too long ago. They didnt tell me anything about his medical history except that he was given a parvo shot and had been checked for misbehavior. Not only was the pup not way too thin I noticed he was always sleeping and when he was awake seemed like he wanted to through up but couldnt. I take him to the vet and I was told he was running a fever, had breathing issues, upper respiratory infection, and hookworms, but I am doing what I can to get him healthier
These are hard working people doing the best they can with the circumstances they are being presented with. My hats off to them.
Horrible experience. My girlfriend and I went to adopt a dog and half the dogs have diseases of the brain. Overall the other facility is better professionalized.
Hello sir am a student from berta palacios elementri school a will love to interview with you about animal abuse I was wandering if youll love to do a interview with me and my group?
I brought my foster kittens to have a medical appointment. Excellent Foster Team!
Its always so sad for me to see so many animals locked up in cages. But, at least they dont kill them. The staff is friendly and helpful.
A no kill animal shelter! Wonderful!!
Went to visit my dog he was on quarantine. The young lady that helped answered my questions I had!
Terrible and rude staff. everytime i go, the staff always gives me attitude and is never helpful.
I sadly had to take in two beautiful kittens I found in my drive way. Trust me, if I couldve kept them, I wouldve. PVAS was super helpful and all staff was super friendly. They gave us same day assistance with no hassle.
I adopted two poodles named Penny and Paisley 5/5/21 these are two older dogs who won my ❤️ and that of my daughter who actually found them on your site, the connection was immediate and I am so happy with them.at first they were scared but as we dematted them bathed and brushed their hair, I promised them boone would ever ever abandon them or neglect them ..they are coming around . Thank you so much
Had a poor experience with staff. Found a poor black cat in the middle of the street and saved her life to try to bring her in here & they said they can’t take her in because they go by appointment. Basically told me to take her back where we found her which was in the middle of the street! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE . told us over and over to take her back where we found her. How is this helping these poor animals!!
I went there for microchip for my cat today. Staff was nice and friendly. It is only $10 for microchip here compared to $50 in a regular vet !
My cousin recently adopted a little dog. Everyone was friendly and kind. The dog is a sweetheart. Now I need to find one for myself.
I adopted my dog from PVAS 4.5 years ago and I am now fostering 2 kittens. The work they do is wonderful!
Excellent personnel. Courteous and helpful. Just want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH. I found my babies
I made several calls and nobody answers. Cant leave a message because evidently have too many messages so theres no more recording space. I have kittens and cat mommy(not) mine needs to be picked up.But I never get any results!!
Staff was mostly friendly, but the website information isnt correct and quite a few of kittens cages were concerningly dirty.
Follow their website and social media. They finally are no Kill!
I have adopted two dogs from this organization, and both are wonderful, healthy dogs. One is a German Shepherd mix and the other is a Chihuahua mix. I can’t understand the negative reviews as I have nothing but praise for these people. I’m originally from the Chicago area, and the first thing I noticed when I moved here was the enormous amount of stray animals running the streets. People just letting their animals out the front door to wander the neighborhood, having no regard for the safety of their pet, or their neighbors. People have said it is heartbreaking to go into this shelter, but what is really heartbreaking is seeing countless dogs and cats dead on the side of the roads because they were hit by a car, or seeing a poor little dog starving and being mistreated when all it wants is a meal and a little affection. This is not responsible pet ownership, and should be punishable with, at the very least, a large fine. You want to give a bad review to the very people that do everything they can to help these poor animals? They do the best they can with the resources they have. If more people would understand that allowing their dog or cat to roam freely is not appropriate, maybe the shelter wouldn’t be overcrowded. My dogs are part of my family. They are not allowed to roam, or left outdoors 24 hours a day. They are loved. If you don’t want to treat your animal they way it deserves to be treated, simply do not have one. Until the culture changes, the shelter’s job will be extremely difficult. Animals are not property, they are living breathing beings that deserve respect, care, and love.
The staff is working hard to maintain the animals only wish they would receive more financial assistance as the building is in need of repairs and ventilation
Our family has adopted 3 pets, 2 dogs and a cat from this facility. It was a great experience. You can see that the volunteers and workers care so much for the animals. We look forward to visiting again to help foster.
Not a good a experience! Been calling to set an appoinment and the transfer me to other shelters. Decided to take unknown dog that almost attacked my grandson they didnt accept it because I didnt have and appointment! Really!!
I called needing to drop of some rescued kittens and was told I needed an appointment to do that. Got transferred no one picked up. Called numerous times and no one ever answered.
My sister, brother, and myself each adopted puppies, from different litters, and they are the sweetest, cutest little fur-babies ever! Thank you Palm Valley for making us parents of these little fur balls of happiness! We love them all and would definitely DEFINITELY adopt again! Although it was a busy day, the staff was very friendly and informative thru it all :)
I found my best friend Canela at PVAS Trenton Center! The staff was kind and knowledgeable and made it super easy to adopt through their online website. Yes it was a hit or miss but I felt something amazing when I saw my pups photo online. The young lady Stephanie did let me know if I wanted to see my pups personality before adopting (which I totally agree with) afterwards I knew Canela was the one. Stephanie was nice to bring her out to me and took us our first picture together! What an amazing experience despite the covid-19 restrictions and regulations, I was helped from beginning till the end. Also note if you want to adopt online and submit application be aware someone else might have too. Thankfully I did not run into that problem!
Ive acquired my last two dogs from this shelter. They have both been exceptional. Smart, loving, loyal and trouble-free. After having owned a few pure breed dogs in the past, I can honestly say that shelter dogs are superior in intellect and in overall health. Do yourself a favor and rescue a shelter dog instead of buying one from a breeder.
Please adopt a cute one.
I wouldn’t give this place not even a star but I have no other choice. I lost my dog and I was told to call them to see if animal control left him there and I’ve been calling all day and nobody answers I even left messages but I guess they don’t listen to the messages. Who can we report them too? They need better service and better employees they are just lazy and no help at all. Also they are always put wrong information on their website. They don’t care about this poor animals they just care about themselves
Kept calling because nobody answers the phone, when I do finally get an answer Im met with an immediate rejection to take in a puppy because they are from pharr and to just call animal control. I called because I didnt want to do that and I didnt want this animal dead, I was told you guys were a no kill shelter which was why I made the effort to call frequently so yall could take in a pup that had a better chance getting adopted at your shelter than in any other shelter in the valley. Extremely disappointed.
Had been trying to adop a kitten. Got nowhere.I kept getting emails and pictures of kittens. I was told that the kittens had been adopt. Very poor communication
I absolutely love this place...my aunt brought me here on my 15th birthday to get a kitten there were 2 cages one had all black kittens and the other one had 1 gray kitten and 2 black kittens...I absolutely loved the gray one and took it home it has been alive and healthy for a year now...I would give this 5 stars but..when you adopt one it takes forever to go through the computer..I wish they had other workers doing the computer work instead of one person but otherwise, I absolutely love this animal shelter!!
The place is overcrowded with animals and they are under staffed. The staff they do have is uninformed and unprofessional. This place needs to hire at least one good manager to oversee everyone and hire someone that can maybe get a better system in place. Maybe a person to take photos and post online and make it less difficult for adoptions.
My fur baby went missing. When I drove into the facility there were clear signs and posters. So it was easy to find the lost and found. They were very caring and understanding of my pain. I checked out the scene in the arrivals and the kennels where extremely Clean. I mean clean. And unfortunately Chase wasnt there. I looked through the medical kennels even the bite quarantine section with the help of the young man working. I showed them all his pictures and they paid attention. It made me feel better at the time. They do care alot. I found my baby not there but I can only imagine all the work they put in. And I thank them for their service.
I would give a -5 stars if I could. This place routinely kills animals who are adoptable and healthy. It also puts animals in such a horrible conditions on concrete floors with not even a blanket to lay on. The animals are healthy when they come in and sick not long after. I’ve seen cats with eyes bulging and nobody’s done a thing to help them. It’s a slaughterhouse. Do you not take your animals here. They will be killed. Find them a home or a no kill shelter. Enough is enough!
Palm Valley Animal Center is a government operated facility that must take in any animal that comes to its door, it therefore is not a “No Kill” facility, few government operated shelters are due to not having enough space. Shelters that are “no kill” are privately funded SPCAs and humane societies or other small organizations / pick and choose which animals they will accept. Please adopt from this shelter as these animals greatly need a home. If you live in the area, please encourage this shelter to start a foster program. Fostering frees up cage space for animals at the shelter by putting them in temporary homes. According to their website this shelter works with rescues. PVAC offers low cost euthanasia for $25 this is a much better option than dumping your pet at the shelter when you can no longer afford elderly treatment. Elderly dogs and cats normally do not find homes. They also offer low cost micro chipping which is an excellent way of keeping your pet safe.
Wonderful and caring staff. They answered all of my questions and did not make me feel neglected, as there were many people to be assisted. The animals looked well tended to and hydrated on a hot Saturday morning. Thank you for all that you do!
If I could give no stars I would, I tried to bring in a kitten with a possibly broken leg that almost got hit by a vehicle...they wanted to charge me $100 to leave this poor little guy, I thought the point was to rescue a poor defenseless animal off the street so it can possibly find a loving forever home. Its ridiculous to be charged when your trying to help. I understand if you adopt of course there is a fee, what I dont understand is why theres a fee to help take an animal off the street. Smh.
I don’t think the people leaving bad reviews understand how out of hand the stray animal population is in the RGV, it’s one of the worst if not the worst in the United States. The shelters in our area can only do so much with the funds they have. Rather than bash donate to these places and encourage those you know to spay and neuter their pets
We adopted Uno, renamed Paddy from the Match dog transport on 3/2/2019. He is the shaggy white dog in the website photo. He has been groomed, seen the vet and loved. He takes daily walks to the lake. Everyone who meets him loves him, especially us! Thanks to the volunteers who took care of him before he came to us!💕🐶
Ive had the hardest time to get someone there to help me with a voucher to neuter my dog. Been waiting for 2 months for them to call me I called and they were like can we have your email well email you, and they havent done that either. When I first went the lady that issues the vouchers was on vacation so I waited 2 weeks while she was on vacation. Then I called to see if she was back thats when they got my email well that was early November its going to be a. New year and still nothing these people dont want to help the community they want the money dont say your here to help the community neuter there pets because you cant even call someone back. You guys are rude too even at the on monte cristo rd I even went there to ask but they said I had to go to the one on Trenton rd nombre you dont get anywhere with those worthless people.
I cant help but give Palm Valley Animal Center 5 stars! They do the best they can given the stray/animal abandonment issues the Valley faces. Aside from that, I found one of my dogs, Molly, at Palm Valley. Their adoption fee may seem steep to some, but it comes with a spay or neuter, and a microchip for your new furry loved one. Its a small price to pay for a new best friend!
My husband & I adopted our best friend, our baby, our light from there 6 yrs ago. He was an amazing dog who loved being apart of our family. While we had him for only 6yrs before he passed, we can strongly say he picked us. This place gave us the opportunity to be apart of his life. I would highly recommend adopting a pet.
Why even bother having a phone if you never answer it. 😡 I’ve called a total of 10 times and no answer. I guess you’re too busy KILLING innocent animals.
Adopted Jagger my long-hair chichuahua mix here. He is the light of my life!! I want to go adopt more! Palm Valley Animal Center made it a fast, easy, and fun experience. The girls there are so nice and very caring. I recommend them greatly!
I liked it because it has good quality but it was sad when you left
Adopted a cat from Palm Valley Animal Center a couple years ago with no problem. Went to adopt a second cat today. Found a cat I liked and decided to adopt. All the people working around the pens where the adoptable animals were excellent, supportive and happy that I decided to adopt. At the front desk the person working there was not as excited to say the least. I asked if I needed to fill out a new adoption form considering I had adopted there in the past was told I had to. She found my previous adoption record and asked about the address change since original adoption. I moved to San Juan a year or so ago permanently. I was asked for my I.D, gave my drivers license which I gave gladly. She couldnt figure out the difference between my physical and mailing address. SHE WAS RUDE AT BEST. I told her I had no reason to lie about my address. She looked like she was put out so I told her I could adopt a pet most anywhere and left. I feel sorry for the cat she could of had a GOOD FOREVER HOME if the person made the slightest attempt to work with me. The only reason I gave two stars was the other people who went out of their way to be courteous and kind to me. She ruined their good work. GOOD LUCK if you go there. If that RUDE front desk person is donating her time they are paying her too much.
For a shelter its great. I hope they can keep up the good work and turn into a no kill shelter completely. I hope I can give them ten stars soon.
The worthless p.o.s that claim to be animal lovers in an animal CARE centre kill perfectly healthy animals everyday, quiet often without releasing details of the animal. Often killed within 24hrs of arrival. THIS PLACE NEEDS CLOSING DOWN
Worst place ever. Dogs are malnourished. My mom tried adopting a puppy just so they say they liked it too and said too her sge couldnt adopt her because the puppy was a little over a month old. Why did she send my mom to see her just so she says no. Then, they dont even feed them, bathe them, they looked dehydrated and sick. They should really take a look at what they are doing with these poor animals. My mom left crying because of how they held her Hopes up just to tell her no.
I thought the place was pretty nice. They let you meet the animal (in my case a dog) however they dropped the fact that the dog had heart worms right before I took her home. It was extremely upsetting and was upset that they didnt bring it up much earlier.
I dont know why they are labeled as no-kill shelter. Numerous times i have gone walking to the lost and found and passed by a building that smelled like dead animal
Ive volunteered here and so have an intimate knowledge of the place, and I can say it unfairly gets a bad rep. The local area is saturated with stray animals and the overflow is ridiculous. They do the best they can and the people I have worked with are dedicated to fixing this frankly endless problem. This is a great facility operating in a difficult environment and need as much support as they can get
Today i adopted and im very delighted about it. But the one thing that upsets me from this place is... the fact that they advertise dogs /cats ... then you show up to adopt the one friend yr intrested in and it always a “ it has an owner and there getting picked up.or its getting claimed”..soo then why put up the animals picture. If someone cant adopt it. And why are these owners so irresponsible! Or why are these animals getting abandoned..! Thats unforgiving.Other than that i love my new family memeber .
This is hell for the pets that are taken from the streets or from their home. My dog is dying at the moment because he has a serious disease that he got their 2 to 3 weeks ago. He was a very healthy dog but not any more thanks to Palm Valley Animal Center. People their are nice, yes they are, but the place itself is very contagious of serious illnesss. People try to have your pets always secure because animal control is everywhere and might take your pet to this hell on earth. Blessing to everyone.
I went there to look for my cat. The 3 rooms where they keep the cats was way over crowded and beyond filthy. The condition the cats live in is very inhumane. They have way too many cats in those tiny cages. The situation for those poor cats is so sad.It appears that they have too many staff members sitting around doing nothing. I saw feces in water dishes or no food or water. Cats lying in their urine and feces. Too many sick cats. Someone needs to do something. Get rid of the lazy staff or shut down the place.
Horrible customer service. I get the destination feeling that they would rather put the animals down than allow them to be adopted. Oh, and in the age of Corona their website doesn’t function to apply for adoption. Hidalgo Co. Euthanizes 2 million animals per year and they make it so difficult to adopt them.🙄
I went there and they looked healthy really like they put the effort into them and adopted a dog very well healthy dog
Many dogs and cats wanting to come home!
My dog went missing a couple of weeks ago so Ive been frequenting the lost and found section of Palm Valley every 3 or 4 days. They have so many animals there - its so tragic! But the people working there are very friendly and helpful. I think they keep the kennels as clean as can be expected in such a huge facility. People - SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS!!!
Great place! I got my Zoe (boxer mix breed) there and she is the sweetest!
Love all cats and dogs it makes want to buy all of them
They need to be more alert and atentive when letting people adpot animals. They gave me the paper of the puppy that i wanted to adopt and when i was done with filling paperwork out they told me i couldnt because someone else was there waiting for an hour on the puppy that i was filling out the paperwork for. It was sad to have to tell my daughter we couldnt have him
This place is great I am glad the city of McAllen offers this to the surrounding areas. My daughter volunteers there and helps around the shelter. Walking dogs, socializing dogs and cats, taking animals baths, and cleaning up after them.
We adopted the most amazing puppy !
It was clean and the staff was friendly
My dog was well taken care of & I was able to call & check up on her throughout the day. Very satisfied with the staff
We had a great experience with adoption of our dog. We were treated well. Great bunch of people working there. If you want a dog and cat, please go to this place.
The people and care at this facility are incredible. They have people drop off about 200 animals per day that are unwanted and some in very bad shape. What a shame! The staff and administration do their best to dare for these animals in the best way possible. We just adopted a German shepherd that was turned in with severe mange and very malnourished. The director took the time and effort to fix her and now is beautiful after 5 months of care. She is on u tube under the Phoenix project if you want to see the before and after pics. It will make you cry. She is also on vimeo under the phoenix project. We cannot say enough good about the work they do, as I have also done shelter work in Uvalde for 10 years. Go look and adopt or foster. You wont regret it. They also need volunteers.
WORST place to drop off a pet looking to be placed in a new home!!!! I did not want to take my loving kitten there but I had to due to being pregnant and her not getting along with my 8yr old cat. They were told this and did not inform us that if she displayed the same behavior with other cats theyd put her down in which we would had asked to be contacted and we would have done what was needed to prevent her life from being taken. I called to see if she was adopted and instead i was informed they put her down. She did not need or deserve that she needed a home where shed be a single pet. If you love animals and are under circumstances of having to give up a pet this is not the place to go!
We went looking for a cat at your facility. The experience was awesome. We were able to go into the riom with the cats and hold them, play with them and observe them.We found an adorable little 7 mo old female and brought her home.Your fees and customer service was excellent and felt we were well infirmed about our new pet.....thank you for being so kind.
Very friendly and helpful staff got my babies back. Thank you so much!
Some good people work for the place..But it is a business in the end. And the top people of the organization make a lot of money. There are more options than them to adopt a pet...
Do not bring your pet or strays here. This is no shelter to help animals. They don’t give them any vet care and euthanize them in 2 days. It needs to be shut down
I’m happy to say I’m planning on adopting a pug and this is my choice on we’re to get one and can one of the people on the Community tell me if thare is any pugs up for adoption
This is a very late review but we adopted a dog from there 4 years ago and I was living out of state at the time due to being in the military. We went by there just to let my son look at the dogs at the time when he was about 1 year old. We saw a small brindle terrier at the time Timmy now Jax and adopted him. I guess he was on special because no one was really wanting him at the time but the staff let him go with us and were able to get him neutered later. Very willing to get their animals adopted. Great staff on hand. Keep up the great work. Jax is still with us today and is the most perfect dog Ive ever been able to call a member of my family.
You get to have fun and enjoy the company of the animals that you are working with, you can get to know how they act and there personality.
I got a dog many years ago and reverting was good people talk bad about the place but they dont help and volunteer to help and too many dogs and cats they do what they can. I just want to say people if you have animals take them to get fix dont let them have babies and then they end up in the streets or shellters. I have mine fix all the females4 of them
I love this place! Thank you for your job!
They are a joke i wanted to adopt a dog that just shld have been out today. But i cant because some rescue is gonna take him he is taged what is that. Not fair How is a rescue gonna take him if he shld have just been ready for adoption today.. They did not even let me see him.
The staff was very helpful. But please be patient they are doing the best they can.
TERRIBLE! First off, I get there and go into the back and one guy was standing there over the cage yelling, and I quote, shut the f*** up. I dont think he knew I had walked in yet. I then found an adorable little puppy, grabbed her paper saying who she was then went to adopt her. Granted it was close to closing time and they were decently busy I stood there for at least 30 minutes waiting for one of them to finish with someone else and start my papers. I was still ok. Then 6 came around and they finally told me they cant do anymore adoptions but they can put her on hold until tomorrow. I said ok. Then then one of the other ladies said they had someone who was already going to adopt that dog. I know I was there first but they had kids and you know I dont want to be that lady. So moral is they should be nicer to their animals and definitely have better communication. Maybe if they can do that Ill give them a better rating but as of now 1 star only
I found a poor little baby bird on the street and I don’t know how to take care of it so I called them to see if they can take care of it and they told me to contact the police because they only take exotic birds 😤 I also had to call them like 3 times and they finally answered on the fourth
Great people taking care of the animals, but they need more help, more volunteers, to keep everything clean
My cat was lost, and I went to PVAC to see if anyone had taken him there. The staff swore that they scan all incoming animals for microchips as soon as they arrive. It turns out that my cat had been there for three days, but PVAC never scanned for a microchip. They ended up turning him over to PAWS on the same day that they swore they scanned all animals. PAWS did scan and notify me immediately before putting my cat up for adoption, and I was able to go pick him up. If PVAC had decided to euthanize my cat, I never would have known.
Bit sad many animals are lost but this is the place to go! 2 other shelters are near so you can see each one! You can find your lost animal and reunite!
This place sucks. They wouldn’t take the dog I found.
They provide a great service, if you can afford to donate a bag of Dog or Cat food, please do so...
Check out video footage on this place on Facebook. They have the highest kill rate in the state. Animals are kept in filthy conditions with sick and dead animals. Notify local elected officials. What the hell is wrong with you RGV jerks that you can’t take care of a pet and have to put down 18,000 animals a year. You don’t deserve a dog.
Great place to adopt a pet, they help animals all they can and provide a great service to the Valley.
