Recently brought my 1960 VW beetle to Todd for general repair and tuning. He did excellent work diagnosing various issues some known and unknown and making the appropriate repairs at a very fair price. He is thorough, communicative, and very pleasant to work with throughout. Happy to have found a reliable shop for my air cooled VW, and may also start taking my Audi daily car to Todd as well.

This is the tale of 2 reviews. I have a 1987 corvette with 145K, it was starting to use antifreeze, not starting on all 8 cylinders, and I thought it needed some work. I asked Todd Souza if he would look at it. He agreed to diagnose and would only charge me for the diagnosis if I agreed to the needed work. He told me it needed head gaskets replaced as well as the coolant hoses, plus a new thermostat and water pump, and related gaskets as needed. I asked for an estimate, and the initial estimate was for $1800-$2500. I agreed to this figure, He said that the only question mark was if the aluminum heads needed to be repaired. I asked for a time frame, and he said 2-3 weeks. I left the car on 6-19-19.I called 2 weeks later and Todd assured me that the heads were true, and he was assembling it. There were some issues, and extremely humid weather, which slowed things down. I asked Todd if an extra week would help, as the temperatures were brutally humid, and he thanked me for the extension. The estimate went up to $3000-3400. Todd wanted to replace all of the coolant hoses for an additional $400.00, I declined. I was only interested in replacing the one going to the oil cooler. Todd took extra time to clean the valve covers and made the engine look cleaner. We finally picked it up on 08-02-19, I paid $3341.59, PLUS a$116.96 VISA convenience fee, for a total of$3458.55 I questioned that convenience fee, but Todd told me it was from the credit card company. That is not true, it is a fee from the business for using a credit card. NOwhere was there any notification of an additional fee for using a credit card. The car started fine and my wife drove it to my work. We switched cars, and she left. I checked the coolant level before leaving work, and found it to be low. I know the C4 needs to burp and I added coolant. Overall, I was pleased with the work, but I still thought the convenience fee to be unnecessary. So I initially gave Todd and Sons a 3 star rating.I took the car out for a drive the next day. When I came home, I noticed slight drip from the front right side of the car. I called Todd, told him about the leak, and he told me he already knew where it was coming from. I parked it in my driveway, and then dropped it off a week later, and I asked him to diagnose a squeal, which I thought was the alternator. I did not ask him to fix it, but to diagnose it. He had to dis-assemble some of the belt drive pieces to access the hose. He replaced the hose and cleaned the V-belt to fix the noise. Imagine my surprise when I was given a bill for an additional $380.00. I felt that to be unfair. Todd dropped $100, down to $280.00., plus the convenience fee of $9.80. I think that I should have been charged for the parts for the return visit, but not for the labor.

They know 912Es type iv experts! Any and all air cooled cars should know about this place. FANTASTIC work. I brought my poorly running weber carbed 912E by and within 5 mins their head mechanic Bill asked me 3/4 questions diagnosing every problem I was having with the car before I could even tell him what the issues I was having were. I have found my new mechanic! I am one of those neurotic car owners and they are above and beyond, detail oriented, cars do not leave until they are running right! Good Stuff!

My experience with Bill was awesome. Over the years Bill has helped me with basic problems (e.g. hard to find parts) as well as complex problems over the past 35 years. My most recent experience with Bill was after I replaced my own engine in my 1985 VW Vanagon. After the replacement, I could not get the vehicle to start easily or idle steady. I spent a year trying to get it to run properly swapping every component you could imagine.I recently took it to Bill and within 10 minutes he figured out that I had a mismatch with the Cap and Wires. He pointed out that there was arcing at the interface and even though the wires were new they had disintegrated. He also helped me identify a loose wire to the distributor and a broken wire (not visibly broken) to the fuel injection temperature sensor. Now my van starts right up and idles like a charm.Throughout the years, Bill has been professional, friendly, helpful and second to none when it comes to my Volkswagons (1966 bug, 1971 van, 1972 super beetle, 1978 van and 1985 vanagon).I would highly recommend Engines by Benz for anyone looking to get the job done right!
