This was my first time renting a truck from budget (usually rent Uhaul or Penske for out of state moving). The dealer was very nice when checking out the truck. They did not have the 12 foot truck we reserved (and this is stated that truck size is not guaranteed when making a reservation) but it gave us a 16 foot truck. I was assured that truck was in good condition. Nope. After loading up and getting on the highway, the truck started shaking after going over 60 mph. Not good. Also, the signage on inside of cab indicates quiet cab. This was far from the truth. All me and my passenger could hear was a screeching sound...like metal rubbing together. We had to endure shaking of the truck and screeching sound for our 8 hour trip (Durham, NC to Jacksonville, FL). I called customer service to file a complaint and ask for 50% of my money back (seemed reasonable to me since we got to our destination...and brought truck back one day early). Out of my $592 payment, the best they could offer was $60...really. If budget trucks considers truck like the one I drove in good condition, I will gladly take my business and money to Uhaul or Penske. I can vouch for those companies having good conditioned trucks for local or out of state moving. The 2 stars is only because of the customer service at this location. The experience is 0 stars.
Me and my boyfriend were on vacation in November when he reserved a truck and car dolly for his move in December. He received numerous emails stating that everything was good and confirmed. We got there at 930 am because the movers were coming at noon and we were planning on leaving out of town by 3pm. The first thing that the Representative said was “I have been trying to get in touch with our inventory manager she’s not answering calls I can give you her number if you like to call. We don’t have a car dolly. Once he got someone on the line they asked us how far are we willing to drive to get it. Since we didn’t want to drive he just gave them and answer because they couldn’t even get past the mileage question he gave them a radius and said they can call back between 15 min to 2 hours. I told him to start calling other companies to see what they have available since this company lied and didn’t even think to communicate with the customer. The representative knew who was coming in for the day and could have called us as well to inform us that the inventory wasn’t all there. The inventory manager Susan could have emailed my boyfriend as well. For a hundred dollars more we went with Uhaul.
Don’t rent from Budget they took Money for Depoit on a 26 Foot Truck went to the E Independence location at 8:00 a.m nobody was there the location was closed sat there for 1 hour somebody finally opened up the store then of course they didn’t have my 26 Foot truck and I got stuck paying my Mover 4 guys for nothing..Customer service sucks go to U-Haul
Make sure you call before you go there. The check in reps will not let you know that your reservation for a truck and car dolly will be there. There is a miscommunication with the inventory manager and the local stores...
My family recently rented a car here and I can honestly say this was by far the best rental car experience weve had in a long time. We walked in without a reservation but the agent found us a great option, explained everything well and had us out of the door within about 15 minutes. He even drove the car to the front for us. The car itself was in great condition also. If you want a no frills and efficient car rental experience with great customer service, this is it!
Barely satisfactoryShowed up early Sunday morning to pick up the 16ft truck I reserved. After presenting me paperwork to sign for a 12ft truck (which could have been an honest mistake) and several additional minutes of paper-shuffling, I learn that they do not have a 16ft truck for me. I was given a small discount ($8 and $.03 per mile) to accept a 12ft truck, which I did with no other immediate alternative available.Truck was functional, including the AC (thankfully), but the interior was filthy (even by my relaxed standards) and the tire pressure light was on.The truck worked; my move was successful, and the gentleman at the counter was polite, so it could have been worse. Still disappointing and not an experience I intend to repeat here
Outstanding customer service. Had issue refilling fuel tank and the desk representative went out of his way to assist me. Best rental car experience in quite a while.
I have seen some awful reviews for this location and I am sorry for those who have had a less than stellar experience. But I must say that I really like doing business with this location. I dont like some of the companys policies but I love the people culture here because they treat you like a friend. I had an awful day yesterday and almost missed the opportunity to rent a car because of some of the policies I didnt understand and almost ended up stranded. They worked with me up until closing to make sure I had a vehicle. My family and I appreciate their sincere help and care.
Worst. Experience. Ever. Made a reservation and prepaid for today at 0800. Had to call twice to get a confirmation number because they dont send you one when you reserve it. Had all my documents ready to go. We got there at 1030 but had to wait to be helped because they were having problems with other customers. They tried to charge me extra for insurance even though I declined twice. Absolutely no integrity. Then they wouldnt take our payment because our card had both my and my husbands name on it. Apparently it has to be only the person who made the reservation. At this point its been almost three hours from the time we were supposed to pick up the car and they were mad at us because they closed at 1 and had to stay late. I have never been so disappointed in a service like this! If I were to need service again I would have cancelled and paid the $20 extra for uhaul. I cannot believe the disorganization, slowness, rudeness, and lack of communication that goes on at this location. From no vehicle to the dirtiness of the business to being told several different things about our reservation it was all a waste of time!! I have already filed a complaint with the company and will definitely be filing one with the BBB. UNACCEPTABLE!
I rented a 12 ft truck from this location on July 1 for a one way trip to Chicago. The steering wheel was off centered to the left and steering was a little shaky leaving the rental office, but I figured it was just the nature of the vehicle. By the time I hit the highway the truck started turning hard right if I didn’t have both hands on the wheel. The sudden hard rights worsened when I applied the brakes. I was forced to pull over at the nearest budget rental in Winston Salem as I felt endangered and called emergency roadside service through Budget. The technician showed up 2.5 hrs later when the provided eta was 56 minutes. When he realized the truck couldn’t be fixed road side, he left us stranded. The dealer had given me a vehicle that was blatantly unsafe to drive. What’s worse, they didn’t even try to resolve the issue and tried to blame me for the break-down (they said the previous renter had no complaints). They tried to make me to drive the truck back (it’s unsafe to drive) to Durham, and on top of that we’re bold enough to instruct me to top off the gas! They should be charged with negligence and endangering customers. It is now 2:35pm and I am still waiting for a resolution. I’m sitting at Budget of Winston Salem, and the employees here have been so helpful making phone calls to their supervisors. For your own safety, do not go to Budget Durham on Guess Rd. Never have I ever experienced the lack of ethics and unwillingness to help customers who were wronged. I will definitely be demanding reinbursemnt when this is all over.
Rented a 16 ft moving truck online and picked up here. The price was more much competitive than U-Haul. The customer service at this location was very friendly and helpful. Would use this location again.
I have rented cars from this Budget many times, but the most recent time will be my last. Normally, the customer service is very slow compared to other rental car companies, but I have continued coming back because they are very competitively priced. This time, however, the service was unbelievably bad. While waiting to get the car I reserved, the previous driver of the car came in and returned the keys. The employees basically took the key and handed it to me, so the car was not cleaned on the inside or out (one of my favorite perks of getting a rental is getting a nice, clean car). I was disappointed but not appalled until I returned the car and the employee told me I needed to vacuum the car before returning it. He told me if I didnt, they would charge a cleaning fee. Having rented at least two dozen cars in the last few years, I have never been asked to clean a car before. Rather than arguing, I stupidly went ahead and cleaned it - it only took about two minutes. That two minutes of cleaning that those employees should have done themselves cost them a lot of business.
The service was friendly, but they charged me for a hand truck that I never received.
The worst truck rental experience I’ve ever had. This place has no customer service. People here are irresponsible, they don’t care and they are not willing to help when there’s something wrong with the truck. They should not be qualified to provide rental services. They put us on a truck with serious brake issues. When we picked it up, it was just a little wobbly so we couldn’t tell if there’s anything wrong. After we loaded everything and start driving on the high way the next morning, the truck was basically moving like a snake. It was so hard to control the vehicle so we had to stop at the nearest bugget office. We immediately called Budget Durham and told them there’s something wrong with the truck, these people refused to take the responsibility and blamed us for breaking the truck. Then, they didn’t want to help us get another truck and lied to us that there were no trucks available for swap. After 5 hours of negotiating and waiting, they finally agreed for a swap. But we were asked to DRIVE BACK (after the technician evaluated the truck and confirmed it is NOT SAFE TO DRIVE) and fill the gas to get a swap.Don’t use Budget Durham! They are not trust worthy and they will put your lives in danger. I really think the Budget corporate should shut down this office.
Great staff - very helpful.Usually crowded with only 2 service staff
It is unfortunate that fair is included in the lowest available review option. It could not have gone worse. Quick summary: Budget canceled on me last minute so I never got the truck, and then charged me $50 for not showing up. Avoid this place if you possibly can.I reserved a 10ft truck to pick up Saturday morning. I was in from out of town and needed the truck to pick up some furniture for a new apartment. I arranged the pickup time with the guy I was buying the furniture from who himself was moving out that day so I needed to get the furniture that day no matter what. That afternoon I was attending my wifes grandmothers 100th birthday which was the reason we were in town so this had to be done by the end of the morning. One hour before I was to pick up the truck from Budget I received a call saying they were all of out trucks. My understanding was that the point of the truck reservation was to reserve a truck. They said I was on my own and could do nothing to help. Thats correct: reserving a truck doesnt mean you will get one, they can cancel on you at a moments notice without any consequence on their end.I was very frustrated but managed to make it all work only due to family in the area being very kind and bailing me out.A week later I check my credit card transactions and see that Budget charged me $50 for not showing up to pick up the truck. Yes: Budget called me and told me not to bother coming by because they didnt have my truck, and then charged me for not coming by to pick up the non-available truck. After calling two different numbers they said they would try and credit my account back but it could take 10 days. I normally dont write reviews, but I hope to help others not make the same mistake I made.
Had a reservation and when arrived, no truck. Was told that they over book to make sure that they always have their trucks out. Very, very poor customer service and we had to scramble to find a truck at another location OURSELVES! Never renting from this lovation again!
The gentleman there are always super helpful and they always try to find you the best deal! My location of choice!
Hated it.Awful customer service. Dont go here, they will steal your money!
Absolutely terrible. 0 stars. I drove 30 mintues to this location to pick up the truck for my reservation only to find that they had no trucks of any kind available. They didnt even have the courtesy to call and let me know. On top of that, there were two other people behind me with reservations for trucks, and neither of them received a call either. Then three days later I looked at my bank statement and saw that Budget charged me a no show fee. This was the worst customer service experience I have ever had.
Quite simply an impossible agent to deal with business wise. On my first visit to the office, he was on the phone arguing with a customer and another waiting customer was furious with him. I thought mine will be different but it was still the same belligerent service and attitude. I think Budget Rentals should have that branch closed or sell it to a more personable agent.Dr. Omo Nugbe
They got some great good car to travel 😀😄😃
We arrangwd to drop off our truck at this location. We could not find it with our GPS, and when we called the number lisyed, no one answered the phone. We called the 1-800 number and they have us a different no for the Grace Rd location, but no one answered that number, but no one answered that one either. We had to arrange for another drop off location.
Just went to this location to pick up my moving truck - which I received a confirmation email *yesterday* saying it was available at this location - and when I arrived at the store for my pickup at the confirmed time, was very rudely told by the guy working there that they not only did not have a truck for me, but there was nothing he could do about it. He refused to even look my confirmation number up in the system, or call the nearest location. He offered NO help, treated me like I was a complete moron for taking my confirmation from them yesterday seriously, and told me to go call their general customer service number. Customer service told me they would check their inventory and get back to me in 2 hours. Considering it is a Sunday and Memorial Day tomorrow so their locations are closed, it seems nearly impossible I can expect to receive a truck from them for my move out tomorrow.I will NEVER use Budget Truck Rental again, as apparently their confirmations are completely fake, and you will be treated like you are an idiot for expecting to receive the confirmed truck you reserved when you show up at the location. Hopefully Uhaul will still have something available so I have a truck to move my apartment into tomorrow. Do not ever use this Budget location, or Budget Truck Rental in general.
Booked a reservation online. Reasonable at first but ended up being WAY too expensive. Add-ons in the store to insure against damages end up costing an extra $50+. If I had known that I would have gone to Uhaul, even if it was a little farther away. Service was very friendly, but the paperwork process was very slow.
Short story:I needed a one way rental. Booked online a couple days before. I called to confirm they had our truck before I got there, they said good to go. I got there (after 2 hour road trip specifically to move) and they didn’t have any trucks, let alone our truck. They directed us to another store that wouldn’t answer and we never got the truck.More complete story:To give you some context, I was doing a one way rental from Durham to Greensboro. I reserved a truck online because budget seemed to be cheaper than U-Haul for a bigger truck even. Everything seemed to be fine during that process. My parents live in Richmond where I also spend 50% of my time for work. My parents said they would help me move over the weekend so we headed down to Durham from Richmond on Saturday morning. I made the reservation for 1 pm because I knew they closed at 2 on Saturdays and I figured I would give myself a cushion. We called about 45 mins beforehand to make sure that there were no problems and get specific directions. They told us where they were next to so we could easily find it. They told us that they had us down for the correct reservation and everything was all set. So we get there at 1 and they tell us that there is an inventory problem. They didn’t have any trucks let alone ours. After not apologizing (which just added insult to injury), they told us that the Raleigh location had the 16 footer we were looking for. I asked him to call to make sure and he did but the store wasn’t answering so he was then put on hold. I immediately called U-Haul to see if they had anything, they didn’t. I then gave him my cell phone number to call me when he got through to the Raleigh store to confirm that they had our vehicle (or even A vehicle) and got in the car to head down to the Raleigh store. I also then called the Raleigh store myself but I guess their system defaults to the corporate number if the local office doesn’t pick up right away. The problem with the corporate office is that they don’t know a stores local inventory apparently. So we started calling around to other places. There are about 20 U-Haul individual “neighborhood dealers” around Raleigh so we started calling those and Penske and Ryder and others… We finally found one that had one after about 30 mins on phone. We never made it to the Raleigh store because I had to pull over to help my parents find these locations, and phone numbers and such and cars were pulling up behind me at some points (oh it was a disaster…). So I never found out if there was a 16 footer at the Raleigh store because we never made it. That store was 30 mins away from the one in Durham so with all the other frantic calling around and a couple u-turns, we never made it. So, we found a U-Haul that had one and since we couldn’t get in touch with the Raleigh office, we turned around and headed towards the sure thing. The guy from the first budget office never called us back to let us know that the Raleigh office did or did not have the truck.
Reserved car 2 weeks in advance. Showed up and car wasnt there. Waited 2+ hours for car to arrive, with 20 teens waiting also. Very poorly run, and Im not very picky. Go elsewhere.
I reserved a truck here two weeks in advance and got a confirmation email two days before. When I arrived at 9am, they said that not only did they not have my truck, they didnt have ANY trucks I could rent. From the looks of the other reviews, this is a chronic problem for Budget in general.Steps to rent from Budget and still get your move done:1. Reserve a Budget truck2. Reserve a U-Haul truck3. Use the U-Haul after the Budget is unavailable.

Terrible service.
