First of all the customer service is very poor, when we first call it only took 3 to 5 days to do the job and then we had to pay half after a week we had to call every other day to see if the car was done and it end up taking two and a half weeks to have our car finished. And once it was finished the screws wasnt tight, the clamp wasnt on tight, this was such a poor job and come to find out the people that own this company has been brought out and theyre using their name. Again do not go there.

Took it in for a transmission cooling line leak. Tommy said they only replaced the fittings not the line. They insisted to drop the pan and change the trans oil and check if the transmission was damaged. After dropping the pan Tommy said that they needed to rebuilt the transmission. I told Tommy I only took it to replace a cooling line leak and never had any problems with the transmission before that, it was working smoothly at all times, and that I would take it to another place and have it checked out for a second opinion. With the fittings change and changing the trans fluid and 2 filters I ended up paying close to $500. $200 for the transmission fluid alone smh. Highway robbery. BAD customer service starting with Tommy (the phone rep guy) said he would call me and never did. I took it on a Saturday morning and they never told me they were going to close early. So I was left uninformed and with out a car until Tuesday. Had to borrow my dads car for work for Monday and Tuesday. Had to chase them down for answers. Will not go back and will NOT recommend it for anyone. Dont let them work on your car until you authorize any and all repairs.

I drove my truck to this shop to get and transmission oil change and an expert mechanic advice to see what was going on with my truck . I was quoted a price of 1k to fix my transmission. He stated it will be ready in 2-3 days. He called on the 4th day to say it will be $2560.00 to fix it. I asked him what happened he stated it was a 1,000 how can it be an extra 1500.00, he started to explain that he didnt know it was that much damage to it and you need to buy some more parts.now he started telling all these lies about what was going on with the truck, that he couldnt drive it. So what are you basing this quote on was my question. I didnt have that problem with the vehicle, Ive been driving the vehicle, I noticed a small change in the vehicle and wanted to get it checked out. If something was wrong with the vehicle I will fix the vehicle. With the price of $1,000 of what I can afford. Next after telling him I cant afford 2560, and I was just coming to pick up the vehicle. He then stated to me he will put my parts inside my truck and it cost $500 to get it and I will need to tow my vehicle from the shop after I drove it there. I immediately knew this is their hussle. I wish I would have read these reviews first. Because its so many stories on here that are similar to mine. I really figured out the way they get you to say yes to fix the vehicle, is to give you a low price that way they can have your permission to proceed, just so they can increase the price no matter what or if they found anything. These guys are just some modern day thieves. To everyone that is reading this. This is the place where you do not trust the mechanics . But it just so happened, Im the right person and is in the right business to get the right people involved... To those who dont believe this is true, just update all of us online, on your story, and how you wished you wouldve went somewhere else. Thanks to everyone who took the time to write a review on these low life mechanics. I only wished I would have read it before I took my vehicle.

They are well qualified experienced transmission mechanics. I was given a base price and a maximum cost. I knew all along I need more than just the basic beginning price service. After they inspected my transmission they called and gave me an exact price that was well under the maximum cost. My van was ready in two days and the cost was exactly what they told me it was going to be. That was about 3 months ago. I drive my van every day. I waited that long before my review to give it more credibility. My transmission works exactly like it is supposed to.I was easy on it for the first week. Since then I dont drive it like I stole it but Im not easy on it. I drive it like I drove it for the first 250,000 miles when it was new. This time however Im going to service the transmission a little more responsibly instead of neglecting it like I did before. If youre looking for a good transmission shop there are none better than Cookson in Duncanville Texas.

If I can save one person from suffering the agony of this place mission accomplished. THEY ARE CROOKS DEALING WITH THIS PLACE WAS A VERY BAD DECISION. I was told by Tommy that I would be charged $600 to rebuild and install my 2speed Power Glide old GM transmission. After I left my car I received a call from Tommy stating that it would be $1700 to repair my car. (More than the cost of a new high performance 2speed power glide) When I complained he told me I can come pick it up in pieces and I owed him $500. Reluctantly I agreed to let them work on my car. Less than 2500 miles later my transmission went out car wouldn’t move. They won’t fix it.CROOKS

Never... ever...Ever... get your car repaired at this place. If I could go lower than one star I would. They are not customer friendly, they are rude, they use bait and switch practices, refuse to release your car if you find a shop that has a better deal.(and no, I didnt owe them), they will over charge you for a rebuilt transmission. I paid $4,400 on transmission work that should have cost $3,200 to $3,600. And they refuse to inform me about where they got my transmission from after I told them where I wanted to get my transmission from.

I had a bad experience here. Took my car to them because it had transmission problems. Was told theyd look at it and get back to me that same day. Didnt hear anything until I called the next day. Then over the phone they told me it would cost $1,200 dollars to fix my car. A few days later they call me and start listing a bunch of extra problems and stuff they had to fix. They said it would cost $4,500 dollars at this point. I had taken it to another mechanic previously and I knew all the stuff they were saying was extra. Long story short they gave me one price and then once they had taken the transmission out of my car and pulled it apart they give me a price thats almost 4× more than the original quote.I dont expect stuff to be done for free and I understand quotes dont always match up. But to go from $1,200 to $4,500 is ridiculous. In the end I had to get my car towed and was charged $600 for labor.

Preface to the review: RUDE WORKERS, NEGLIGENT, SLOWER THAN MY GREAT GRANDMOTHERS TYPING ABILITIES. OVERPRICED. MAGICALLY FIND NEW ISSUES WRONG WITH YOUR CAR.This place is terrible. I wouldnt recommend this place to Satan if his car broke down, thats how much I absolutely despise this place.I literally have no idea how a business like this has lasted for so long. To START the complaint, the main guy Tommy has a habit of interrupting you while you speak. Im confident he finds great joy in interrupting you.Weve taken my car here for this one single transmission fix a total of five times over a span of a month and a half. I havent been able to work or go to the grocery store or even take my kids to the park because of the month and a half this has been going on, Cooksons has had the car for over three weeks to fix a transmission. I got a quote from another shop, and it was going to take them four days. The last major issue I have with this place is of ALL that time they had my car, they somehow managed to miss two of my four car mounts were completely broken. Luckily, another mechanic noticed it right away. I told Tommy by his mechanics negligence, my kids and I could have been severely hurt. I brought up the other shop said my engine could fall out, and instead of apologizing that they missed this mistake and put the lives of my kids in danger, he had the audacity to skip over that and say the other shop was overeating. This man and shop have no care for actually repairing cars and maintaining safety standards, they just want your money, and a good bit more than what it should actually cost.

Needed to replace my clutch in my car called around looking for quotes these guys gave me 400 Versus the 700 and 600 dollar quotes from other places. So took it here, I already had an aftermarket clutch ready to be put in but was missing a couple parts and notified them what I was missing and expecting the price to go up about 200 or so but oh boy was my estimate wrong. They took 1 week to get it fixed called them thought the every other day and either got theyre still trying to bleed the clutch or theyre still looking at it after it was ready for pick up the bill was almost 900 Dollars... Twice as much As I was originally quoted. Anyway was tired of them just paid It, got my car back and drove a little and it had clutch chatter and shifting was so stiff I could barely get into gears but I thought maybe it was just the more aggressive clutch...it wasnt. I was on my way to work 2 days after pick up and the clutch line blew off from not being properly secured. Called the shop got it towed back there and it took ANOTHER WEEK to just replace a clutch line and bleed the system. When I picked up my car I was billed close to 300 dollars and was charged for the tow, clutch line, and hours but somehow my slave cylinder was damaged and also needed replacing but that was covered under warranty. So after it was all said and done my 400 dollar clutch change turned into a 1100 dollar fiasco. And that chatter and hard shifting i mentioned earlier? Turned out my pilot bearing wasnt fully flush with my flywheel and as for the chatter my flywheel wasnt resurfaced properly and causing the noise however from what they told me they didnt resurface it and I cant hold that against the necessarily. I highly recommend against this place as they mislead you with incorrect quotes and do very bad work . Just do a little research and look around.

The cost this last time was $2822; again they insisted everything needed to be replaced ( maindrive, maindrive bearing, pettiest bracket, etc) When I asked about how parts nowadays haveI got a lifetime warranty ( autozone/Oriellys) I was told “ we don’t you that junk”.If you take your car to Cookson’s don’t expect it to last long.

I should have known better! DO NOT TAKE your Car here! Tommy is a liar. I dropped my car off about 3:30 pm. I got a call about 4:15 regarding the codes and the recommendation to rebuild the transmission. I was quoted a price of $1000.00. I thought about it and deiced to go along with the repairs. Then next morning I changed my mind and decided not to go through with the repairs. I called several times and no answer not voicemail or answering machine then call goes to a fax. I finally get Tommy he said the already had the transmission out and it would be $586.00 because I did not want to go thru with the rebuild. Tommy said that the transmission was taken out the day I dropped it off. I said really what time do you all close? Tommy said they closed at 6:00 pm. I said OK . I told them to go a head and break the transmission down and tell me what is wrong with it since you want to charge me $586.00 just to take the transmission it out. Tommy then calls me and advise I buy an used transmission, because my transmission can not be rebuilt. Now that is going to cost me $1700. Tommy found a used transmission with 90,00 miles on it for $850.00. I told Tommy I dont want to pay that. Just get the car ready to be towed. Now Tommy says I owe them $500. I just did not like the constituency with the pricing. I feel like Tommy lied and wanted to make at least $500.00 off me. When I called Tommy the prices change from $850.00 to a $100,00 to $1,700. I do not mind paying but I do not like a liar. I called another transmission shop for a quote and the guy said which shop did you take it to Cooksons or Allstate Transmission. I did not have to say anything. I just asked about pricing. We live and learn.

BUYER BEWARE. Run from this place. Owner offered to finance the repairs (again he offered, we did not request this) and we agreed. Once our car was ready, we came in to pay down on repairs and the estimate of $1200 before repairs was gone and now we OWED $1798. We received NO notification that there would be an increase. To make matters worse, the finance company was a friend he knows who wanted us to sign a promissory note to repay him $4200 over 12 months. HIGHWAY ROBBERY! When we refused to pay the padded price and offered cash at the original quoted price, he threw a total unprofessional fit! He told us we ruined it for all the POOR people in the area. POOR PEOPLE? With help like this, the poor are better off without him. We saw his attempt to make a quick $3K off of someone who he thought had no money. Unethical AND sad.

This place is a rip-off. He will tell you one price of $850.00 to fix transmission. Then come back and tell you that its going to cost you around $1700.00. Because, after he tore down the transmission he ran into other problems. For $1,000.00 you can buy a brand new transmission and have someone to put it in for 350.00 and come out better than his prices. And by the way if he break down your transmission have him to put it all back together like he found it ... Because, hell tell you that for him breaking it down. The price is $500.00!!! And that hell put all your parts in a box and give it to you.... Im going to put BBB in his life and file in the courts....

Run as far away as you can. This place is nothing but a bunch of con artists who have no idea what they are doing and will charge you for royally screwing you and your vehicle up. They will rob you blind without thinking twice. I had a transmission problem with my vehicle so I took it to them without doing any research on the place first. That was a big mistake. Estimate was first, just to diagnose it, around $200. Normal right? Wrong! They quickly, without permission, took my transmission completely apart and charged me for it. Then they said it just needed a torque converter. I said go ahead since you have it apart and they charged me for a rebuilt transmission. Then they said it needed a whole new transmission, sensors, connectors, u joints, drive shaft, everything. And that it was going to cost over $2500 to get my vehicle back. Over the 5 months they had my vehicle they NEVER got it right. They admitted they were using parts from a salvage yard after charging me for new or reman parts and there was not a thing I could do about it. They did not even put parts they charged me for (and labors costs) on my vehicle. They claimed the vibrations I was complaining about (after they said it was fixed multiple times) was a bushing that needed to be broke in. I told them I was not stupid and obviously something was very wrong. They started refusing to do any work to fix what they had messed up. They put the drive shaft on backwards, they did not put the c clips back in the u joints and that, my readers, could have killed me if it had fallen apart on me going down the highway. Arent they lucky it didnt! I had to pull into a friends shop and with his help we fixed what I got charged 2500 for. I know I am not the only person to have had these problems at this establishment as reviews per the BBB do tell. They are not accredited with the BBB at all, but have complaints against them. I highly recommend people to stand up against this company so we can make sure these things do not continue to happen to people. These people are dangerous. What if it was you or your loved ones driving the vehicle they fixed like they did mine or others vehicles?

I was referred to this place by Ogdens automotive; great guy! no bull!. Transmission was going out on my 2004 Ford F150. Got several quotes about repairs; 1st 4-500, then 1000. Final bill was $2800. Wow! Rebuilt transmission. So I go to pick it up after a week in a half then the truck turns off on me as Im backing up. Whatever. No big deal. Turn it on and take off because I really needed my truck and was anxious to get it back. A day later the check engine light turns on and the truck begins to idle sporadically. Took it back after a few days and was told by Tommy that the check engine light and rough idling were the result of installing a rebuilt transmission so the computer in the truck has to recalibrate itself after a few hundred miles or so to adjust settings. Was told that the idling problem and check engine light would go away. After several hundred miles and truck stalling out it never did so I took it back to Cooksons. Spoke again to Tommy. Mechanic checked it out and Tommy said that the problem was with the throttle body so it would have to be replaced. He quoted me $422.00 just for the part. When I told him that the check engine light and idling problem started after getting the truck back from transmission installation, he basically said it was not their fault. Tommy said they never touch the engine bay area; only underneath where the transmission goes. I said politely that I just spent almost $3k for rebuilt transmission and your repair shop came highly recommended. He did not offer to fix it for free. All he said was; Im sorry sir. That is just terrible customer service! Will never again go to this shop for anything. They do not treat their customers well! How can you charge a customer almost 3K for a rebuilt transmission send it back to same customer with more issues and then not offer to fix it for free. Hell, I wouldve even been happy to pay them just for the labor! He would not even offer that. Now my truck still has check engine light and idling issues. At times the truck will stall in the middle of traffic. Thanks Cooksons! Please beware of Cooksons before you go. And read reviews on this place. SIMPLY TERRIBLE!
