Trying to find martial arts classes for adults can be tricky. I’ve searched all of Utah valley for the best and most traditional TaeKwonDo instruction and have sampled several TKD schools. After just one trial class here with Master Kim, I immediately enrolled. Master Kim is a TRUE master of his art, and he teaches to the individual- not the masses. Regardless how many are in his class, he always pays careful attention to each individual and is so good about scaffolding instruction to each person’s current needs and level. He teaches for functionality- not just for flashy show. Since enrolling, I’ve had other martial arts instructors of other formats say that when it comes to TaeKwonDo, there’s no other person in the valley they’d take instruction from or train with. I can see why, he knows his stuff!! Love it here!!

Taking Tae Kwon Do from Master Kim has literally changed my life forever and I dont know where I would be today without it. It has given me so much confidence in my body and I wouldnt trade the knowledge and training that I have received for anything.

Our son has taken Tae Kwon Do here for about six years. He wasnt into competitive sports, so we were looking for something where he would get some exercise but still be engaged in the activity, and TKD was a good match. TKD has a good balance of challenging the mind as well as the body - you have to memorize different forms as well as demonstrate proficiency to progress. Kids learn how to use different weapons like nunchucks and bo staffs and there is constant reinforcement of positive attributes such as obeying parents, completing assignments, goal setting, failure as a stepping stone to success, and using martial arts only for self defense. Our son has also gained a greater appreciation for Korean culture and language.Grand Master Kim has two dojangs - one in Lehi and one in Draper. We go to the one in Draper. The facility is fairly new and has been customized to provide a lot of different activities and ways to learn tumbling and strength related skills. You can pay for different levels of activity. We started out going once a week until about the red belt, and then increased to two times a week. Testing for the early belt levels happens about every 1-4 months depending on the kids progress. After the red belt, it takes about 6 months to learn the skills and memorize the forms necessary to test for the next belt. It took our son about 4 years to advance from white belt to the first degree black belt. Testing is generally at the Lehi facility on Saturdays and you can plan for it taking about 3 hours with drive time. Usually there are about 15-20 people testing at a time so you get to see all of the different belt forms and memorized sparring sequences from the time you start, and you get to see how your technique compares to others. Kids do fail the testing if they dont memorize the form, or the answers to the questions. If they are only a little off, Grand Master Kim allows them to pass off the problematic areas during the next class. But, there is emphasis that failure is ok and that it is part of the learning process.Grand Master Kim is good with young kids and helps them have fun as well as learn TKD skills. Our neighbors dojang focuses a lot on the sparring and grappling parts of TKD, and Id say Grand Master Kims dojang leans more toward proper technique. We started out with a different TKD master through a community education program, and he was pretty harsh. Grand Master Kim reproves without demoralizing and is genuinely interested in each pupils progression. Hes a nice guy, respectful, and fun to talk to.

Are you looking for a martial art option for your child or family? Whether you or your child want to develop self-confidence, develop athletically, learn self-defense, learn the focus and discipline that sports teach, or just have a ton of fun, US Taekwondo with Grandmaster Kim is the place.Grandmaster Kim is a Grandmaster. He is from Korea and was trained and achieved the highest levels of Taekwondo in Korea. He brings not only his mastery but a wealth of teaching skills and he’s a father. I’ve seen him reach the most troubled children and also graduate students who’ve developed breathtaking speed, form and agility.Grandmaster Kim instills respect, for one another, for one’s parents and for our community. He is equally comfortable instructing 3 year olds and 65 year olds at any level. He and his expert staff provide an amazing value at a very affordable price. If you are considering martial arts in your future, I highly recommend a visit to US Taekwondo (Draper and Lehi) –it will be your one and only stop.

4 of my 5 children have received their black belts from Master Kim. We love the structure of classes and and discipline that is taught. Master Kim worked with my daughter that had some learning disabilities. The program helps reinforce obedience and respect being taught at home.

My son has had such an exceptional experience with Grandmaster Kim and his school. He is a disciplined, truly professional instructor that has clear expectations for each level of achievement and motivates students to excel. After spending years at a different school with mediocre expectations and inaccurate skill development, we were frustrated. As soon as we made the change to US TaeKwonDo, my sons skills, confidence, and strength sky-rocketed. Now he knows that when hes earned his next belt that hes accomplished something REAL (and registered at the official Ku Ki Won). There is not a better instructor out there!

Our family has been going here for years. It has been a huge plus for our family. Grand Master Kim is very modest of his actual accomplishments. His Taekwondo studio is one of only a few in Utah that is recognized world wide. Try it for a month and you wont stop going!

Our family has been taking TaeKwonDo from Master Kim for 20 years, he’s amazing. All 4 of my children started at the age of 3 or 4, he is great with kids! Now 3 of them and myself have a black belt and one is just getting started. I would never go anywhere else.

I am thankful that I found this dojang. We get to try many techniques and learn useful skills i.e. situations where we find ourselves on the ground, to defending ourselves against weapons, take downs and so much more. It really is a great place to relieve stress, learn discipline, understand self control, and keep active. Grand Master Kim is such a patient and wonderful instructor. He has a great depth of knowledge and skills. I have become stronger mentally, physically and spiritually since coming here. It is great for both kids and adults. 10 out of 10 would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a great place to get a workout and grow your mind. 😊👍

Great Dojang with very experienced instructor. He is also great with kids especially if the child is reluctant like my 2nd. If you need your kids to learn life skill set (discipline, team work, achievement focused, self defense) I highly recommend.

Studying TaeKwonDo with Master Kim has taught my six year old discipline, helps him be confident and strong and courageous, challenges him and well, most importantly in my sons eyes, has given him sweet ninja and nunchuck skills. It was important to us that he learn legitimate TaeKwonDo and Master Kim, a Grandmaster under the World Taekwondo Federation, is as good and legit as they get!Another thing I love about working with US TaeKwonDo is that there are studios in both Draper and Lehi and you do not have to commit to one of them OR commit to certain class days/times (though you certainly can). There is a great variety of classes and you can choose to attend any of them that your child belongs in. I LOVE the flexibility of it and it guarantees, regardless of what may come up in the rest of our life, that our son gets his practice time in the studio.

U.S. Taekwondo offers such an incredible experience. You don’t just get to learn Taekwondo here - you gain community, confidence, family, friends, mentorship, and so much more. Grandmaster Kim helps you to evolve, adapt, and transform into your best self. Take it from someone who has trained in various martial arts for over 13 years now... He’s literally THE BEST Martial Arts Instructor I’ve ever seen, know, and have the honor of training with. He personalizes the martial arts journey to every, individual student. He spends time outside of class making sure his students know he cares about their wellbeing. If you haven’t trained with him - you are missing out on the best Grandmaster out there!
