I recommend this place for those ill pets. They really took care of my dog who was in a critical condition. They took him in right away without me waiting inside the car. My dog was suffering from internal bleeding, and the doctor suggested a blood transfusion because my dog was very anemic. Dr Kelsey suggested it might help my dog get stable and that he had a 70 % chance of living. I went on with the blood transfusion having a glimpse of hope that he would survive. Special tests were performed. Unfortunately my dog did not make it. I feel sorry for my dog for putting him through so much, I wished the doctor could’ve realistically said he was not going to make it instead of having my dog suffer so much from all the poking, removing blood, and checking his temperature. It would’ve been best to put him down instead of having him suffer another day. Bringing him here I knew the price was going to be expensive especially for all these treatments and tests. At this point I had no choice but to go ahead and try to save his life. Be ready to pay upfront in order for your pet to get admitted. The staff were so attentive they called us with any updates they had as well as the doctor. The assistant who took care of us was very understanding and supportive. As well as another female doctor who was being realistic and told us there was no hope for my dog. She was very helpful answering all the questions we had. Despite COVID restrictions they gave us the chance to see our sickly dog and spend some time with him before deciding to take him home. Thank you to all the staff that did everything they possibly can to help my poor dog.
I took my pup here to see the neurologist, Dr. Casey Birkel. We had an appointment. Dr. Birkel was incredible. My pup loved her and she was thorough with the exam. Normally a sweet guy, he was having violent outbursts with no warning, and severe anxiety (anti-anxiety meds did not work). He had symptoms of seizures, so Dr. Birkel prescribed meds. We talked about specific symptoms to watch for. I work the same hours as the specialists at VCA, but was able to email with questions/concerns. She took the time to respond in a caring way to every message, of which there were many. Although we tried doubling the prescription, the medication did not work well enough. After a month of meds and strict training he continued to be unpredictably dangerous, and I had to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize. Dr. Birkel went above and beyond, and was very thoughtful and informative throughout. Although the outcome was not what I had hoped, I feel my guy had the best care possible, all my concerns were addressed, and I had a vet to help me through. Thank you.
We need answers because they didnt want to give us their mack paperwork? Why did the doctor inject him with methadone without telling us that she would give him that? And why when we called her after Mack died did she try to tell us something else? I just ask that you be honest and nothing is going to give me back my baby, he was my son and he died, nothing is going to give him back but I need to know what happened please 💔#justiceformack
Called with an emergency and they hung up on me because there was static. There was no static on my end. Called back and no apology, they didnt try to call me back, just oh there was static so she hung up like thats a perfectly reasonable thing to do for an emergency vet hospital. These people dont care at all. My dog could be dying and you just hung up the phone.
This hospital was neglectful. They killed a perfectly healthy bulldog and refuse to give any real information as to why or what happened. If they had nothing to hide or cover up they would be forthcoming with any and all info. NOT ALL VETS ARE GOOD VETS LET ALONE CAPABLE OF CARING FOR OUR PRECIOUS BULLDOGS!# JUSTICEFORMACK
I’ve taken my American Bully puppy twice to this location in the past year for emergency treatment. The first time in 12/2020 for a UTI and today because she swallowed one of her toys. I was very satisfied with the care she received both times. Today we were in and out within an hour. Thanks to all of the vets and front desk staff!
VCA Arboretum View is a tertiary-care animal hospital with well-trained veterinarians providing state-of-the-art care. My beloved dog developed acute vomiting, weakness, and lethargy. The Emergency veterinarian quickly figured out that my dog needed emergency surgery to survive. A board-certified surgeon operated on her and saved her life. I was impressed with the conversations I had with the three veterinarians involved in my dog’s care. All were kind, caring, thorough, patient, and professional. It’s not easy making quick decisions about a sick pet, especially when the cost is high. I’m so glad I chose this specialty hospital, and am grateful for the excellent care they provided.VCA is a multi-billion-dollar conglomeration of over 1,000 animal hospitals, now owned by the sixth wealthiest family in the US. This ownership undoubtedly contributed to the cost of services. However, this ownership also contributed to the high standard of the veterinarians that work there and the state-of-the-art facility. Good healthcare isn’t cheap, but if your animal is in critical need of specialized care, I highly recommend VCA Arboretum View.
I do not recommend bringing your pet to this place for an emergency care. With an array of diagnostic equipment and services, one would expect a better outcome. Instead you end up with a huge bill, a battery of meds, and a dear pet that does not last a day after being released. I believe it is a lack of training in extensive care that ultimately does it.
This hospital is extremely neglectful, unprofessional, and greedy. A young and healthy bulldog died in their care & they don’t want to provide any information to the owner. Bulldogs specifically require special care, this hospital was manipulating & clearly just wanted money. Makes me wonder how many other times this has happened. Just one innocent dog is already too many, this hospital deserves to get shut down. If they can be neglectful towards just ONE dog, then they don’t care about dogs. Animals in general actually. Is this a hospital you’d trust leaving your pets with?
They injected an English Bulldog by the name of Mack with Methadone without consulting with the owner first which led to Mack’s death. A perfectly healthy dog went in and never came out and now they are refusing to speak with the owner! I mean c’mon that is absolutely devastating! At the end of the day, they killed Mack and the family deserves answers at the very very VERY least! #justiceforMack
A truly outstanding hospital. We brought in our cat last week because of a kidney issue. Unfortunately we had to let him go but I was truly impressed by the care and professionalism of the entire staff. The doctors were very knowledgeable and patient while explaining details to us. We got updates daily and sometimes twice per day. We visited our cat several times and it was clear he was well taken care of and looked after. They really care here.Everyone was incredibly kind, including the overnight staff.I strongly recommend this location to anyone who might need their services. A+ animal hospital in every respect.
First time here and they have taken such good care of my little one. Whenever we call for updates they answer the phone quickly and are ready to answer any questions that we have. Thank you for saving Papoy
Me and my family took our puggle to this inhumane place. Before we took her there, she had a fever, her breathing was abnormal, and couldnt walk, and would collapse when she did try to stand. So we took her here to see what was wrong. So they gave her an IV to hydrate her and wanted to test her blood for anemia. Now look. She was clearly on her last legs and they said that her inability to walk was due to arthritis. Yet she was Walking fine a week before we took her there. She went down hill very fast and passed away the day after this vet visit. My question is, WHY DIDNT THEY MAKE IT CLEAR TO US THAT IF SOMETHING WASNT DONE, SHE WOULD DIE! If you go to this vet. Ask as many questions as possible. Because it seemed like they really cared about getting blood tests ($300) more then actually helping Mala. Why couldnt they tell us how bad she was.... Simple negligence at its worst. I hope Dr: Scott Wood gets removed from his place of employment. She wasnt just a run of the mill dog. She was a registered seizure alert service dog. For a disabled Marine veteran (my mother). This day was heart breaking, and I believe if Dr Scott Wood cared more about our dogs health, then he cared about getting the $300 blood test, Maybe if he told us that she was going to pass away if we didnt do something, maybe we could have saved her.
Despite a heartbreaking prognosis, I have zero complaints from their service. They we’re quick to answer the phones, kept in contact throughout my daughters (dog) stay, and contacted to update me before and after the procedure. They seemed to truly care. The payment system is cake, they just text you a link to pay, super slick. I had my reservations when my primary vet recommended them because of the negative reviews...but thing is, I think it comes down to all serious cases going here and serious cases don’t often get the answers you’re hoping for. Because this place does the specialized services, yes, of course it’s going to be more money than your standard vet. Honestly, I expected to pay way more than I did after reading some of the reviews. I’m just glad to have received definitive answers that allowed us to take the unfortunate next steps with peace of mind that we are doing the right thing.
I have been so exceptionally lucky finding the veterinarian care that I have since moving to this area. We came to VCA on the referral of our regular veterinarian to see their neurologist, Dr. Birkel. Her and her staff are beyond phenomenal, and I couldnt put into words how grateful we are for their care. They truly are the most informative, gentle, and caring people. If you are ever in the unfortunate circumstance of needing a neurologist or emergency care, please find calm in knowing this will be the absolute best place for your pet to be seen. They are life savers.
My husband and I went here last night around 9pm shortly after our 15 year old male dog had a stroke.I was told there would be a 5-6 hour wait before a vet would see our dog. We left as the wait was too long for a senior pet to endure.Update: Our dog was taken to our vet on 7/13 and was put down due to a poor prognosis.Response back to VCA: I would think that a stroke is considered critical. When we brought him there, he was alert so if he was examined sooner than later, maybe something could have been done for him. By the morning, he had declined and probably already had neurological damage that couldnt be treated. It doesnt matter now, does it?
Had an emergency about awhile ago and first started off taking my pups to Animal Emergency of Mokena on April 10. They didn’t do anything to help her or anything, but when we took her to the doctor that following morning on April 11 they told us to come to VCA Arboretum and so we did. They knew from the doctors what her issue was and prepared on what to expect, and so they took her in and within the time of my pups at the VCA the nurses and doctor updated and notified us of everything. The honesty and considerate customer service is phenomenal. They took care of my pups and did what they could! They relieved so much for me and my boyfriend by really giving us the honest up to date. Thank you so much VCA! You really are truly phenomenal! Thank you to the staff that helped with my pups! Phenomenal customer service!
Drove a long distance for a clinical evaluation spoke with them prior to bringing our cat there for the reasons why we made the appointment spoke with technician for 10 minutes or so only for her to get back on the line and tell us that the doctor does not deal with skin issues I said that is not not why we are hear I said that she has already seeing a dermatologist and wanted another opinion as to the other things that where effecting her before he would proceed with other treatments well Dr Galveo got on the phone and we reiterated why we where there well the conversation was we could do this and we could do that and I was like from a clinical stand point what should we be doing well the bottom line was I ended the call because it was apparent that we had wasted our time and money my strongest suggestion is to others research and find a place that you feel comfortable with before your in a situation that brings you to a facility don’t wait til it becomes an emergency or a urgent issue I will never return nor recommend this dollar driven patient second facility please do your do diligence so you know where to go in such an event
After 24 hours of dealing with my sick pomeranian and no answers as to what was ailing him. The doctors and technicians here finally figured it out and my beautiful chunky baby is back to normal, bullying me into walks again. Thanks 😊.
Way over priced way to many useless test charged for never told me want was cause of problems after 1250bill whanted to do more test turned out to be skin tag the dog scratched of i was told by my vet at follow up appointments .Also they wanted to sedate and cut my 10 year old dog for biopsy test for what? Skin tag? No for money highly disappointed in this placeER Docter should be ashamed of her self for even telling me such a test would tell me what problem was
They told us to remain in our car, while everyone else gets to go in with their pets. They told us they took critical pets before us yet every pet that came AFTER us was in and out before us. Seems like this place just makes up its rules as it goes along, incredibly long wait, and a huge charge, seriously what EMERGENCY hospital doesnt have a doctor on duty? Save your time and money
Something not right about this place, ya might want to go elsewhere. Be it general attitude, staffing issues, Covid excuses. Just an overall negative aura within this office. Maybe it was just an off day, hopefully.
My dog Oliver, my best buddy and love, passed away while we’re here visiting my family from out of town this summer. We are originally from here, so when our vet here couldn’t do anything else for him, she suggested we go right to the Arboretum VCA. Oliver spent 5 nights at VCA with the doctors and staff before he left this earth. During this time, I received multiple daily updates from his team of doctors. I never once had to call and follow up myself. The doctors, although unable to meet them in person due to Covid, eased my anxiety over the phone and I knew that Oliver was receiving the best care possible at VCA. They treated him as if he was one of their very own. I put my full trust in them instantly and I know in my heart of hearts, that they did everything they humanly could possibly do before his little body just had enough. Of course it didn’t and doesn’t make the pain, devastation and heartache any easier. I am eternally grateful for the team at VCA for loving my Oliver and much as we all did and still do. God bless them for their hard work and compassion.
Arrived at arboretum view at 7:00 pm they took my dog right in it is now 1:30 am and I am still waiting finally brought my dog out to me at 3:00 am hes home now and seems to be doing great the wait time was bad but the results were good so thanks to arboretum view staff and doctors it was worth the wait
We recently had to put our cat down due to congestive heart failure. Obviously the experience was horrible to go through and our cats condition worsened very quickly and late at night so coming to this vet was our only option but Im glad we did. Due to the severity of her health they took her in right away and we knew wed get the call that the dr would reccomend putting her down. The staff made the situation alot easier. Even though we were heartbroken we were happy to know she was handled with care and thats all we could ask for in her last moments here.
Right from the beginning most of the staff was very helpful, kind, and friendly. They were able to save my pets life and were very clear on the procedures they perform and the reason for them. They discuss aftercare with you as well and answer any questions you might have. I had a great experience with everyone I actually talked to and can’t thank them enough for saving a life. Though the costs were high, a pets life is priceless. As for the person that leaves voicemails asking for payment, your passive aggressive tone doesn’t intimidate anybody.
I would not recommend bringing your loved one to this clinic. I did feel like the front staff did a good job in communication. But I truly regret bringing my sweet boy here, the amount of time and money wasted cant change things, but maybe someone else will consider other places to take their pet (Aurora location was well worth the drive). I felt it was important to at least share in hopes that my dogs negative experience can be a learning lesson for others. Bottom line, I would never take another pet there, if I decided to adopt a new one.
We had to rush our dog here last night due to him having a very sudden onset of concerning symptoms. They did a wonderful job keeping us up to date, explaining everything in detail and being kind. Seriously grade A service. They even told us the price of certain tests before they were done. I was very happy with the service we received and our dog was also.
They need better training overall, in communication and how to handle active pets.
Was referred to dermatology by my regular vet. Dr. McKay and her technician were great! Everything was explained well and in detail. Quality medicine/consult. Would definitely return in the future if needed. Thanks for being so great even during COVID!
We had to take our dog to VCA last night because she was throwing up throughout the day and it seemed to be getting worse as the night was progressing. The staff seemed fine and the service was timely. The issue, however, is that this place had the audacity to charge $700.00 for an x-ray to see what was going on with our dogs stomach and electrolytes for dehydration. She was there a total of 3 hours and was sent home after her initial care. In essence, we paid SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS for a stomach ache diagnosis. They charged an exorbitant amount. I cant believe a place like this can stay in business. I will NEVER bring my dog to this establishment again. I have gone to other emergency clinics and have NEVER paid these kind of prices for spontaneous care. I am angry and I feel completely taken advantage of. Dont waste your time or money going here. You and your wallet will feel VIOLATED.
JUSTICE FOR MACK!!!! A healthy bulldog passed away in their care and now they don’t give no explanations to the owners. This is unacceptable and justice should be served for Mack!
Been waiting for 2 hours after being told it was a 1 hour wait, now could be another hour wait? A heads up before wouldve been nice, but nope. Terrible communication, as I wouldnt be upset if they notified me, but if they couldve told me before hand, and at least not be rude about it? Save your time and money, at least let your pet get treated by people who seem to care
We brought are 10-year-old Rottweiler Khan in for a mass in the middle of his chest the size of a softball. I was concerned with dealing with a VCA hospital do to the fact that we had dealings twice with VCA in Aurora and both times we felt like we were dealing with used car salesmen and that they were only out for money. But this is was not the case with VCA Arboretum View Animal Hospital! We first spoke with Dr. John Przywara on Khan’s intital consult. Dr. Przywara was very through after examining Khan and gave us two options for the game plan. Dr. spent much time on the phone with us and we understood everything he said. We were then given two price quotes. We chose to have the mass removed and then have it sent to pathology to see what the mass was. Khan was given back to us by Hermon the surgery tech who was also very knowledgeable and friendly. Not once did we feel hustled by any of the staff we dealt with. The day of surgery we spoke to Heather who was very friendly took Khan from us. The surgery was a success and Khan stayed overnight. On pick up day we spoke with Dr. Przywara who explained post-surgery to us and how to manage Khan with the drain and bandages they had sent him home with. We had two follow up appointments after wards with the Dr. and his staff, and both times Khan ran into the hospital without a care. I knew that they were taking great care of him when I was not with him! I can not thank Dr. Przywara, Hermon and Heather enough for the level of service we received by them. Dr. Przywara is a caring and passionate Surgeon who knows what he is doing. After speaking with him you to will feel comfortable enough to leave your pet in his care. Hermon and Heather are also very professional and caring. This is a top flight Vet hospital, the staff cares about the well being of your pet first. Khan’s results came back favorable. The protocol and procedures of this hospital should be the business model that all VCA’s should follow! Thank you again for the extraordinary level of care Khan was given.
My sweet dachshund Maxwell is gone too soon for sure! I am very grateful to all the staff and the doctor who assessed him for the professionalism, and compassion they offered during a difficult time in my life. Everyone was so thoughtful and helpful! The facility was clean and inviting! The doctor took time to explain the disease process and all treatment options available. The doctor waited for my veterinarys office to send the X-rays previously taken, and they did not try to order any additional views. He even showed me an additional malady that my veterinary failed to identify. We were not rushed into making a decision, nor were we rushed out of the exam room after Max made his transition. I am glad I drove 35 miles to this facility when I did. It was a devastating time, but thank you all for your respect of the situation and the kindness demonstrated.
Took my little baby after she got run over, they were so nice & helpful! I’m 17 and didn’t have much money in my pockets, they were able to help out. I’m so grateful for them! thank you so much to everyone in that building. a blessing I will hold onto!
VCA Arboretum View Animal Hospital is outstanding in every way-every single person I interacted with was a caring and clear communicator. The vet called with reports twice a day and I was able to speak with other staff whenever I had a question. I appreciated their straight talk about my cats condition and the financial aspects of his hospital stay. Thanks to them, my sweet chonk is home recovering.
I rushed my dog there because my vet was closed for the day. She was having a stoke, but they said it was vertigo and it would take 3 days for her eyes to stop rolling, druling, couldnt stand or walk. She was leaning to side all balled up. They cut her nails and left them bleeding. I didnt see it until I took her out of car, because they put her in the car to go home. Whet to my vet next day and YES it was a stroke, so the vca was incompetent and careless letting my girl suffer for the 2 days. Now dead! DO NOT GO HERE. They just want your $$$. I had to put 1 star to open review, but they get 0 stars. Rotten place!
Cats are truly amazing animals! My 8 yr old, 16.7lb Herculean domestic long hair, neutered male cat somehow managed to knock over a covered bin of gift wrap ribbons, and ate nearly an entire spool of metallic wrapped rubber ribbon. My regular vet advised me to take him to an emergency vet. I appreciate the time Dr. Bozelka spent explaining everything to me, and gave me some more cost effective options even though urgent care and surgery was warranted in my poor kittys case. Post surgery, the doctor called with details how the surgery went. The next day, Dr. Manhart gave me updates on how my great cat was doing with the option of having him stay for another day. I am comfortable with giving him his VCA prescribed post event meds and care and Dr. Manhart thought he could be released home. My cat is healing well and were so happy to have him home and becoming his self more each post recovery day- cats are so resilient (with a little help from humans when necessary!)Prior to this event, before this challenging Coronavirus pandemic, I chose to bring my kitten with an eye infection to VCA and Dr. Bozelka also provided compassionate care! I am happy and grateful to have great veterinary emergency care!
I thought my 2 1/2 yr old pitbull ate my keys & fob and my wife is currently in Ice detention in Az & Shes been a legal Chicago resident since 2 weeks of age and weve spent our retirement on lawyers and these generous people at VCA didnt overcharge me & took xrays of our baby and he didnt eat my keys, but they are lost.. But they helped us in a way they could never know..THANK YOU VCA STAFF & VETERNARIANS!!!! IM GRATEFUL!!!
Great Vet Hospital and clinic I have been going here for years recently moved to IN and I switched to a closer location a new vet different company and well my cat we found out by going back to VCA Arboretum View Animal Hospital in Downers Grove that my cat has IBD and she was taken care so amazingly and I decided I will drive the hour and a half back to VCA for my cat to get the best care and fast results and fast treatment options. I recommend this VCA 100%. Dr danner in the Emergency is great and jenni in internal medicine wonderful and the rest of the staff throughout are all absolutely amazing. All so caring and helpful and so nice.
My dog has serious medical issues. Today when she deficated she had something there that shouldnt be attached to her. I called VCA Franklin Park and they couldnt take her. They referred to VCA Arboretum View Animal Hospital. Called them made appt and took her immediately there. Drive was about 30 minutes. Followed their Covid19 protocal. It turns out she had eaten a liver sausage wrapper (plastic) that must haven fallen from the counter. They took it out and she was fine. I was expecting a large bill but they said it was no charge. I was amazed!!! Thank you for your service and generosity.
They took in our new puppy that was having some reactions from a vaccination shot given at another veterinarian. They took her in and made sure she ok without even charging us for the quick visit. Very caring staff and professional, would recommend them to anyone.
Overall not happy with the service received at this location; our Dog Maggie developed pyometra which was diagnosed via X-ray at a Vet in Villa Park. We got some contacts to take her to ER, called clinic in Lisle where they said realizing the urgency of her medical condition that the soonest she would see a dr. would be 3 hours... they recomended the VCA which was close to check on their availability. Once I called I was placed on hold and told to bring her in after I explained her condition. Maggie was taken from the car after an hour wait and waited additional 1.5 hrs to see a dr, only to be told that she would be needing the surgery (we knew that 2.5 hrs earlier when I called) and they had no doctors available and to call everyone in it would be $10K... for a surgery that’s around $3000. The staff did help us locate another facility that had more reasonable pricing but I feel like precious time was lost and more than time would have elapsed before they could get everyone in take care of her. Exam cost was 3 X the fee at the vet and we brought the X-ray results with us.
Ive brought my dog here twice. I feel they were friendly and caring and quite competent. Both times were late at night and quite busy so it took a while to see the Dr but I certainly would use them again. though I hope I never have to.
We had to say good by to our beloved goldendoodle, Haylee last evening. Jose and Dr. Bozelka were kind, caring, compassionate and professional. They made an awful experience so much more bearable with the kind and compassionate approach. They are the BEST! We ended up at VCA after a terrible experience with a vet named Amir Shanan at place called Compassionate Vet - do not waste your time there - he is ANYTHING but compassionate!
We found a sickly four-week-old kitten at night and brought him here the next morning. The wait was a little longer than usual due to many vets being closed due to the pandemic, but they have an efficient system in place and our new pet is doing great! They even fashioned a tiny collar for him and sent him home with some formula. This is the second time Ive brought a pet here and weve had great experiences both times. The staff is handling the pandemic really well!
My mistake. Wrong link, wrong location reviewed.
Sunday my dog cut his paw bad .they worked with me on the bill and they were awesome great people
Our cat swallowed string about three weeks ago. He threw up a foot and a half of it and the rest was stuck inside of him. We rushed him to VCA because it was early morning and they were quick to get him from my car. Within an hour they called to give me the options and plan for his care. He ended up needing surgery to remove the long string from his stomach and small intestine. I was so worried for him, but appreciated the detailed calls and updates. I also felt I could call at any time for questions, and knew he was getting the love and care needed for his recovery. When he came home they would call to check in and were available for any questions we had. It was expensive, but I am grateful that weeks later I am able to write this review with my thankfully healthy cat resting happily on my lap. I am extremely grateful for their compassionate care and for saving our cat. Thank you, VCA Arboretum View!!
We moved to the area a year ago and started going to VCA and have been extremely happy with the service and care provided. Dr. Gonnering and the other staff we have encountered have been nothing but great. Highly recommend coming to this location.
I took my cat here as an emergency last Monday night and unfortunately, had to put my cat to sleep after 11 years of having him. This was my first time ever at this facility. Dr. Andrew Sowders was nothing short of amazing. He was compassionate, caring and let me spend as much time with my cat before he put him to sleep. The doctor and staff all said they were sorry and showed compassion as we left the facility.Thank you staff and Dr. Sowders for all that you did for my cat, Stanley. Please know that you all made a difference in my life and showed so much empathy as I lost a huge part of me that night.
In the middle of the night in December 2019, my beloved 16 year old tuxedo cat, William. Died in my arms. I called my normal vet office. Whom directed me to an emergency vet that wanted a few hundred dollars for taking him after hours for cremation. I called VCA arboretum view and they were not only reasonably priced for an after hours vet, they were BEYOND compassionate. They were extremely gentle with my William, apologizing profusely for the loss upon drop off. When I went to pick up his ashes, they once again apologized for the loss of my William. For people who see the loss of pets every day, they were SO beyond compassionate for our loss. It means a lot to a pet parent
5+ stars for this place!!! Our dachshund, Ollie, was almost paralyzed with IVDD but luckily, the doctors at VCA Arboretum helped locate the problem and fix his back so he could walk again! We took Ollie to our regular vet when we noticed he wasnt walking right. They gave us some pain meds and told us to keep an eye on it. His condition was only declining and we knew we had to take him into the ER for immediate assistance. Thank goodness we did because Ollie could barely move and was crying from being in so much pain. The doctor suggested an MRI with possible surgery. They were up front and honest about the cost and recovery. You could tell how compassionate the staff was and really made sure we went through all the possible outcomes Ollies condition whether we went through the surgery, or if we didnt. We did not feel ANY pressure to go forward with the surgery from the staff; they did make us feel very comfortable with our decision.Ollie was at the hospital for a few days going through an MRI, surgery and post-op. Dr. Birkel & staff kept us in the loop with everything that was happening and wouldnt do anything without our consent. They kept us updated on Ollies progress and really made us feel comfortable with Ollie being in their care. They even sent pictures and videos of Ollies progression post-op! The texts I received from the staff really put my mind at ease and I was so happy they were taking SUCH great care of him.You can tell these folks really care about the animals that come through the door. Yes, everything was expensive but honestly worth it to have my healthy little doxie back! Many thanks to Dr. Birkel for an amazing surgery and the staff for all of their help with Ollie! We couldnt be more happy with the way it all turned out.
Our dog suffered from a ruptured disc which was causing pressure on his spinal cord making him lose all function of his legs. Dr. Birkel was knowledgeable and forthcoming with information and scenarios to assist us with making decisions. We decided to proceed with surgery and could not be happier with the outcome and his recovery.Dr. Birkel and the VCA team helped to make us feel comfortable with our pets care, especially during this weird time of Covid. We were very pleased with our service at VCA Arboretum View Animal Hospital and would highly recommend them, especially their Neurology department.
Our cat Rosie had her foreign body removal surgery at this hospital 3 years ago. Unfortunately we had to take her in yesterday for the same thing because she swallowed something again. The staff was so nice and so helpful and patient. They performed xrays and surgery and we got to take her home the same day. They called us with updates throughout the day and answered any concerns we had. We trust them with our Rosie and wouldnt take her to any other hospital. We are greatful for everyone who took care of her for us knowing she can be a handful 😊
Some of the best Doctors and care your pet can receive. A very special shout out to Dr McKay!
My sister brought their gravely injured dog there last night and the office staff could be described only as Nurse Ratchet (One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest)The doctors were compassionate and caring. That office staff needs to go to empathy school.Receptionist were irritated that we were there and were arguing over who had to get up out of their seat to let us in. Would not allow our son to say goodbye to his dying dog even though the veterinarians had given us permission to do so. Receptionist seem to be on some kind of power trip. Doctors actually had to correct the office staff and allow my sister to be with her dying dog. Its not hard to be nice, people. With this day of online employment maybe some of them should think about working somewhere else. People who come to an emergency veterinary office are clearly traumatized themselves. And they are paying double for these services. The vets were really nice so its a shame that these people at the front desk give the place such a bad reputation.
Our initial vet we called didnt provide fast emergency services for our dog at the time so they gave us the number to this place. So, my sister called and she explained the situation with our dog and she asked for any recommendations and if she should bring the dog in and the lady on the phone condescendingly replied with Well, what do you want to do? and thats all she kept answering to anything my sister asked. These are supposed to be professionals who are willing and able to help our pets and this individual cant answer a simple question without answering with a patronizing question.
I Dont recommend going here.. came here for a emergency for my dog and they wasted 4-5 hours, saying that oh maybe this or that and if you want us to fully find out whats wrong with him, the total would cost $3000+... this place is a joke.. if you arent rich dont come here, they only think about $$.. pretty sad
I came with a very sick dog. After many long conversations and an exam by the neurologist who is wonderful. She gave me my options and I am very thankful for her honesty instead of getting me to spend tons of money on scans when probably didn’t need them. They are real and honest about the quality of life for your babies and that is what you need in a time of crisis. Thank you for putting my heart at ease.
Vets and staff were friendly enough(The only reason for two stars). Wayyyy overpriced,$$$$ 4500 for two day monitoring and insulin therapy. Im not even sure the second day was necessary. That was after we paid the original vet for the bloodwork and visit. Dog had a diabetic attack and all of the sudden became a diabetic. The other hospital recommended them for overnight care since they couldnt. Should have called more than one place, panicked just to get him in.
They are very money driven and do not care for your pet whatsoever. I was asked what the maximum amount of cash I was willing to spend, instead of being told of the amount it would cost to give proper treatment to my dog. Lost my dog due to negligence from VCA and honestly believe a practice like this deserves to be shut down. Care for our pets, not our money.
Updated Review: Unfortunately had to put my cat down this morning. She was in critical condition and VCA’s emergency staff made the procedure as peaceful as possible for her. We had plenty of time to spend with her before her passing and even after. They even offered cremation and burial services and a paw print mold. She passed away gently in my arms. This was one of the worst decisions I’ve ever had to make, but I’m glad that she was able to do it with people who cared.
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. My dog was choking and all they can tell me was it was an inverted sneeze. She showed my husband and brother a video and when they told her that wasnt what she was doing they didnt believe them! Unbelieveable. Needless to say they sent her home and Im calling her vet first thing in the morning!EDIT: AFTER SHE GOT HOME SHE KEPT MAKING THE MOTION OF CHOKING AFTER THEY GOT HOME. WE WERE ABLE TO PRY HER MOUTH OPEN AND FOUND A STICK LODGED IN THE BACK OF HER MOUTH. OBVIOUSLY AN EXAMINE WAS NOT DONE.
Really nice people working here and the vet that took care of my guinea pig was amazing I dont remember his name tho. Got me in last minute which was great. The 35 min drive to here was worth it
Thank you Dr Kaplan and staff!! I brought Moxie in after our regular vet had closed, he is going on 15 and has a multitude of issues but he was just not himself, not eating, very tired, almost unresponsive. He stayed for 2 days and Dr Kaplan has called multiples times with updates, it seems like she works there 24/7. I am very assured he is in great hands even though they are very very busy with other critical patients. Somehow they found a leg infection when his main complaint wasnt anywhere near there, along with pancreatitis. Both solvable so Im so glad I brought him in and they took such good care of him :-) I would say, in the time of COVID, dont expect someone to come out to your car immediately unless they are super super critical, and this is not an indication that they arent concerned, just very busy here and probably triaging all the cars coming through. We did wait 1 hr to get in but Im glad we did.
Couldn’t be happier. My little guy was almost put down. He had issues my vet couldn’t resolve. We had no answers. My vet and a couple friends referred me here in a last ditch effort to save his life and they did save my furry friend. I’ve read the reviews and complaints about the cost of this facility. They are a hospital and better than any I’ve ever been in. They were in constant touch with me which was reassuring. They responded quickly when I would call. There were no surprises when it came to costs . Everything was written out down to the penny and agreed to by me. Yes it was very expensive but I paid for their expertise and knowledge. They saved my dog and I am forever great full.
I had an emergency situation with my cat that has a feeding tube. The top of it broke off and I called my animal hospital. Unfortunately they did not have this piece in their inventory so they suggested that I call one of the VCA animal hospitals since they perform surgery and are open 24hrs.I called them and they said since they had not seen my cat for an exam that they could not give me this small piece of plastic I so desperately needed to feed my cat. I begged them and said I would PAY for it. They still said no. I would never go there since there is NO compassion in an emergency situation. The tragic part of this story is that I can order this piece online but i needed it immediately.
DONT COME HERE!!! My 2 year old puppy had gone BLIND in a day and my vet referred him here to be seen by a neurologist THAT DAY to regain his sight. We confirmed that a neurologist could see him to give an MRI, but once we made the 40 minute drive from Chicago -wasting precious time- one of the receptionists, Jennifer, said that there is a 2-3 hour wait time and that he wouldn’t even be able to be seen by a neurologist. This is at 4:30 PM not 1 in the morning or anything crazy. So you wasted our time and he produced my puppy’s sight just to get us in and made a couple thousand dollars with an emergency visit?!? He had already seen two vets that day and needed a NEUROLOGIST.
Poor communication. Poor service. Shady practice. If you love your pet and want them to have a better chance of survival, take them to another vet. That’s my family’s experience, we hope it doesn’t have to be yours.
On Mothers Day, my cat was exposed to lily poison and I contacted VCA Aboretum View for help. I was terribly distressed and thought I was going to lose my sweet 1 year old cat. The VCA staff was all extremely helpful and sympathetic to my situation. My cat had to go inpatient for three nights and the vets/techs kept me updated the whole time. They took time to explain the results of his tests and what my options were based on the results. They also listened to what I had to say and answered all my questions intently. Im only 22 and this cat is my first pet on my own so this situation was terrifying. VCA made this situation a lot more positive, as they reassured me without sugarcoating things. I felt that I was treated with respect the entire time and the vets helped me to make the best decisions for my animal. My cat is doing better now and I am very thankful for VCA Aboretum View.
The front desk team is awesome, the surgery coordinator is awesome as well. However, the actual team of doctors does not care about the health or well-being of your pet(s). They wanted to charge me 6k for a broken leg surgery, went somewhere else and I barely paid 2k.
In May of 2020, we brought our critically ill dachshund (Penny Lane) to VCA Arboretum View. Our dog was a few days if not hours away from dying but thanks to the exceptionally outstanding care given by all staff, she is as good as new! A special thanks goes out to Dr. Prywara DVM and Dr. Van Lanen DVM, for their phenomenal surgical and diagnostic skills. In addition to the outstanding care, the cost, the surgical procedure and the possible outcome were clearly explained. If I could give this facility 10 stars, I would. Thank you!!
On July 8th my German Shepard Sammie developed a condition known as “bloat “. She gets very stressed over fireworks . Monday someone started firing off some fireworks again and all of a sudden my dog. Seemed like she was in serious trouble. She was trying to vomit, crying out loudly and her stomach got very firm . A. Quick call to my regular vet and they told me what they suspected and I needed to take her quickly to VCA because they were probably the only people who could save her . When I arrived they immediately took her in evaluated the problem and told me she needed immediate surgery. They saved my dogs life ! They were extremely professional and compassionate! Since I was not allowed inside I communicated by phone from my car . I was overwhelmed by what they were telling me and the young lady I was speaking with after I talked to the doctor was so sweet as my emotions just kinda got the best of me . AL I can say is they saved my dog that nite ! They called me during surgery, and after surgery to update me with the outcome . While she was in their care they called me twice a day with updates . When Sammie came home. They called the following day to check on her. I only wish I could have gone inside to hug and thank each and everyone that was involved in Sammie’s care . I can’t thank them enough. In my book they are truly the best at what they do. And came highly recommended by my regular vet ! They will never know how truly grateful I am for what they did for my Sammie ! Thank you so much !
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I do not wish anyone else to have the experience my family had here. We brought our dog to the ER here. This was our first dog and our first experience going through anything like this, so we asked questions about what the prognosis was because we were not very familiar. Dr. Kelsey was very rude and seemed angry that we were asking questions. He just kept telling us it is our decision to make and that there was nothing else he can say, but he did not give us any understanding of what the prognosis looked like. The next day, Dr. Manhart told us different information on the chance of our dog’s survival. Dr. Manhart made us feel like we weren’t doing enough and told us we should have big amounts of money set aside when we buy a dog for situations like this. We could not afford everything they were telling us to do, especially with such a low chance of survival, and we later found out they withheld information about his poor prognosis, including his stomach becoming very large. It seemed like Dr. Manhart only cared about the money, and the vets honestly did not show any care or concern for our poor dog. I really think our dog would have a better chance of survival if we took him somewhere else and if we were given more accurate information. They also charged my family for extra amounts of money that they said we wouldn’t be charge for. When we told them that we would not pay the money and write bad reviews for them, they tried to do a settlement with us. They sent us a document stating that they would give us some of the money, which we were not supposed to be charged in the first place, back to us if we sign an agreement saying that we will not write or say anything bad about the hospital anywhere. I really do not want anyone else to go through this experience. It was an extremely difficult time for our family to watch our dog suffer, and they made our experience so much more stressful. Do not bring your pet here.
They have been great for us on two occasions with our cat. They do a great job of triage for their animal patients and keeping their humans calm during emotional times. Well staffed with polite and professional workers and Vets are wonderful. Emergency exam runs around $150 which is a fair price for them being open 24x7.
My cat was extremely unwell with cystitis and they took excellent care of him. I didnt have to wait long at all and they called me every day, sometimes a couple of times to update me on his condition and future actions while he was there. I had no doubts that he was in the best hands. The two ladies at the front desk were very patient and kind, and my vet (I dont remember his name, but he looked fresh out of vet school, very young with blondish hair, blue eyes) was very thorough and caring.Vet techs have a very stressful career, much like ER nurses or law enforcement, where theyre dealing with very intense emotions, and so do the veterinarians. Theres a reason why this career is #1 in suicide rates. Be kind to the vet techs, they care about your pets enough to pay a good chunk of cash to get through schooling just to take care of them.
My dog was having seizures these amazing people at the VCA Arboretum took my dog hand and loved him as if he was their own they spent hours and they finally figured out what was going on with my dog my dog is still alive because of them I love every single one of the people at this facility doctor hall Grove is phenomenal if you have an issue with your dog bring it to this place these people are an amazing group of technicians and doctors I love them and will never ever forget what they did for me and my best friend Spike to the staff I say thank you thank you for being a bunch of loving amazing people I will never forget you for what you did
TERRIBLE PLACE. DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMAL HERE. All the vets were absolutely unproffessional, our dog suffered from a heat stroke and the vet offered us minimal, expensive treatment options that he FAILED to explain thoroughly. Dr. Kelsey even told us I dont have a crystal ball, I cant tell the future. Dr. Manhart the next day only seemed to care about the money, even though our dog was well beyond saving. His stomach was enlarged and hard, but they failed to mention that until we were about to come see him. She made us feel guilty for not being willing to spend thousands of dollars for our dog, when he showed us signs of internal organ failure. The two vets gave us different information regarding his chances of living with treatment. As we ended up doing plasma, we had to stop early due to our dog throwing up alongside bloody diarrhea. The techinicain clearly told us we would not be charged for the third bag of plasma, but we were charged us, but they denied ever telling us that even though my entire family heard it. As we were moments away from putting our dog down, Dr. Manhart had the audacity to threaten us saying she would send us to collections for the third bag. The following day I talked to hospital manager, Tami Perez, who seemed to be very understanding of all the concerns I had, she even said she would waive the charge after I sign a paper the following morning. She failed to mention it was in fact a settlement. They told us in the contract, that if they were going to give us back the money back for the third bag, which was their fault, then we would not be allowed to say anything bad regarding the hospital or the employees. This was a clear way to pay us off while clearing their name. WE DID NOT SIGN THE SETTLEMENT AS THIS INFORMATION NEEDS TO BE PUBLIC. My family and I had a horrible experience, we hope you do not go to this hospital.
The doctors and staff at VCA Aurora are wonderful. Very professional, caring, and compassionate. Dr. Golz and Dr. Birkel were great to work with, it was obvious how much they cared and wanted to help my fur baby. The facility is almost an hour away from where we live but we will certainly drive out there again if needed. Highly recommend!
I brought my miniature dachshund here. She came in very sick and the more time she spent here, the more sick she got. The staff there had given up on her within 12 hours of her being admitted. We were at the point where we were contemplating putting her down when we decided to switch hospitals. My dog is doing well. Do not take your animal here!!!!
Great staff and doctors. My dog was dying and I have never seen such compassion and support that the doctors and staff had provided to me and my family. This will be my place when I get my new puppy and for my son to take his Siberian huskys as well. My son was amazed as well with there great service and compassion they provide that he is going to take his two huskies here now.
I LOVED the care we got here. The tech Lisa was amazing with our enormous Great Dane Brinkley. She took so much time and copious notes from everything I had to say. Then Dr.Birked came in and she was doubly amazing! She sat right down on the floor with our dog and was so loving to her . She was extremely knowledgeable. She took her time and answered every single one of my million questions even before I asked them!
Added a new Persian kitten to the household so I was recommended by a friend to VCA since I’ve moved to Wheaton. On the initial visit, they missed ring worm, and this was brought to their attention on a subsequent visits, only to be told its dry skin. Now the new kitten has infected my Himalayan and has cost more than $2000 to correct there mistake. Their so called “ pet care “ program is a joke at $150.00 a month, and that is money not well spent” as it covers nothing. Now we are at 2 weeks later from the last cultures, with no results. I have called 3 times to get results of those cultures taken, only to be put off as they haven’t come back. Not having a good experience with this place at all.
Have been here on an emergency basis a few times. The staff is always informative and compassionate. On my last visit, the vet on staff spent a lot of time with me explaining various options of care and potential outcomes.
Very caring and friendly staff. I was put at ease the moment I walked in the door. After the tech and doctor talked to me about my dog, I felt she was in good hands. I was very happy with how the staff handled everything and if I need emergency vet services again, Ill be back
Caring and quality veterinary clinic who will see exotic and regular pets. They were always great with our rabbit, Dusty. We appreciate them very much.
I have nothing but amazing things to say about this place. I had to rush my cat Colby Jack over from my usual clinic due to respiratory distress. He needed a dangerous procedure to drain fluid from around his lungs, a procedure that could have killed my baby, but he pulled through. He needed to spend the entire weekend there in an oxygen cage. I was devastated to find out that he has congestive heart failure, and a severe case too, at only 3 years old. The vets Dr. Van Lanen and Dr. Manhart saved my baby. He doesnt have much time left, but they gave me his life back, and we will spend the rest of our time together forever grateful for the staff here. The techs were fantastic as well, especially Deb and Becca. They kept me updated every step of the way, answered all of my endless questions, and even checked in on him after I brought him home. Besides some hiccups with the payment process, everyone was great. Thank you all so much!
The staff was AMAZING!!! They were kind, courteous and knowledgeable. They tended to my sick 12 year old cat immediately and with great care, explained everything perfectly and made sure to send us home with medication and a speciality diet. Their prices were extremely fair and they took my CareCredit after having only been approved for the card an hour before we arrived at the facility. They were a godsend for our emergency even though we had to travel from Midway airport. I cant thank the staff enough. They made what felt like the worst night ever into a positive experience for me and my partner as well as my cat.
This is a great place for pet care. I have gone here several times when my regular vet was closed.
Big thank you for help, wonderfull service in the middle of night.
Our cat, Brisbane, was very sick when we brought her in. The staff were courteous and knowledgeable while being compassionate to me as well. They got to the root of what was going on and saved her life. The doctors and staff were amazing. Thank you will never be enough!
They do NOT CARE AT ALL about your pet. Calling for emergency help and told they will not give any advice at all unless you bring them in. Way to kick a pet owner when they are down and have ZERO compassion for animals and only care about the money.Disgusting
Unless it’s a “true” emergency don’t expect them to rush to your pet. We have had to come twice in 24hrs and wait hours each time just to see someone for a 10-15 min visit, and then they charge you an arm and a leg. They also brought us in and then didn’t have a room and made us wait 40min the the car in 90+ degree weather since my dog was contagious, the a room for over an hour and a half. They don’t provide any updates until you harass them. Maybe if they had a tv or some sort of thing like a magazine it could make it more tolerable than just sitting in a box w/ plain walls going crazy.
Staff very professional and compassionate. Our ten (10 year old) collapsed in the morning at which time we brought her in to Arboretum View. Two (2) staff member brought a gurney out to our car to help bring our dog in. We were kept informed throughout the ordeal and everything was explained with detail. A special thanks to Dr. Ingrid, Kathyn, & Catherine.
I called to see if I can make an appointment for a neurologist. The person on the phone kept telling me “what kind?” What kind of what? That person I think called Kathy needs to be trained to say what breed is it or what kind of dog is it? Not just what kind.
I would have to say that these people are the most kind considerate knowledgeable people. Although my kitty did not make it, I know that the doctors were just as concerned as I and did everything necessary to ensure the best possible care. I wouldnt recommend going anywhere else in an emergency. Hopefully we will not have to revisit anytime soon but they are caring and very informative to their clients on exactly what is necessary to be done and the procedures the have completed. To all staff there 5 stars... hell of a job.
I’m very unhappy with this animal hospital. I took my cat in with a lump on his head. Possibly a mass. All they would tell me was it will cost $4000 to $6000 to do a CT scan and biopsy. I got quotes from two other veterinarians and they suggested a biopsy. $250 vs $4000 !! Seriously! They are just out for the money!
