Great job on insulating my attic. Upstairs AC can now hold 70° on 90°+ days.

I spoke to Jim who took a lot of time to explain some soundproofing options I had for my commercial space. He spent about 25 minutes on the phone going over what hed suggest to fix my problems, even though what he suggested actually turned out to be solvable without spray foam, and with a much more economical options via special sheetrock insulation. I appreciated his honestly, and the time he took to explain the best option for me, and didnt try to sell me on something I didnt need, or wouldnt work.

Jim had to work under our deck, removing old insulation and insulating the kitchen overhang with foam.. They worked through a cold rain all day. We are very pleased with the work they did. Also a great job with cleanup.

All talk, trying to sell you the idea of how superior the foam is to regular insulation. Type of people that you have to hunt down in order to get an estimate and theyll try to run up the bill on you too so dont bother telling them that youre on a budget. Look elsewhere.* Jim (the owner) actually did stop by and explained the process and cost to me. I take back my previous comments. Hes not a bad guy, just very busy and runs a small crew thats why it took a bit longer for him to come by.

John personally responded almost immediately to my email request. I was impressed w/ how much time he spent with me on the phone. Spent almost the entire day at my house letting me trail him every where, answering all my questions and then repeating everything to my husband over the phone. Never lost patience with me once.After he left, I noticed he missed a tiny spot. I called John and he immediately said no problem, hed come back in a day or two and fix it. Sure enough, true to his word, he came back patched the tiny area (no additional service charge) and spent another hour answering all our questions - again. We had most of the work done in the late winter but one part was an outside overhang of a floor where we felt cold coming in and the temperature was too cold in that section to let the foam solidify as needed. So we scheduled him to return when it got warmer and he came back promptly as promised!

Doctor John was Great. I came across him by chance while researching soundproofing solutions. I clicked his website, read the information, and was sold already. Still decided to click the reviews and I knew right then and there I had to call the guy. We spoke for about half an hour about my situation. He was as honest as they come. He suggested that since I am a renter that I should try another solution out that was more cost friendly, although he was not pricey at all. I was having a problem with a cold bathroom. After speaking with John I knew he was the right person to help with my problem. He is very knowledgeable and polite. No other Insulation company, would do the job unless they take down the wall. I thought it was an impossible fit as there was almost no space between the wall and roof. They had a guy crawl in and spray foamed the wall, job looked clean and even all throughout. Highly recommended!!!

Jim came out and sprayed for us while we were remodeling. It was cold (this was some months ago) so there were some issues but he came out again to make sure everything was up to snuff. I live in a high-rise in Jersey City and my bedroom wall is shared with a studio apartment. It is a plaster wall with no insulation, so sound tends to travel through it very well. I emailed John and he got back to me the same day. Doctor Energy Smart was the best choice I ever made for my home! As a new homeowner, I really didnt think to ask my home inspector to look a little deeper to make sure my new home was properly insulated. Well, our first winter is here and not only was it very cold, even with the heat on, there were a ton of little draft spots that I didnt even realize were there until I saw them through the thermal imaging camera. I have an older house (about 80 years old) and my sun room was very cold because it had 3 exterior walls and a crawl space below. John injected foam into the walls, sprayed foam on the underside of the floor, and sprayed all around the sill plate all along the exterior walls of my house. He also sprayed the foundation walls in the crawl space, which had a lot of cracks and was very drafty, and he did not charge me for that portion of the job because my father is a veteran who served our country and was wounded in Vietnam. I have noticed a huge difference in the temperature of my sun room and am very happy that I can now enjoy it all year long!

My residence is in a condo building. Ever since I changed my floor from carpet to a hardwood floor I started hearing my neighbor’s TV and other noise. John explained to me what he can do and he promised to keep trying until I’m satisfied. He has come back twice now to troubleshoot the source of the noise, but due to the unique construction of my wall he finds it a bit challenging. Their team came out quickly to inject foam insulation behind an exterior wall with shower plumbing. Very detailed job. They were able to access the bay by just removing the shower trim plate.

We had them come in to assess our home with a thermal imaging camera and they found a lot of weak spots in our house. They were quick and efficient and cleaned everything up after they were done. We would definitely have them back if we ever needed it

I live in a corner unit in an older building in Hoboken that runs very cold in the winters. Additionally, the only insulation in the walls is a 2” thick piece of styrofoam which clearly was not doing much in a 4” wall cavity. So for the last few winters my heating bill has been sky high. I contacted John about installing spray foam in one of my companys building. We had this company do a thermal camera review of our home and found out that our new addition sunroom was causing a cold breeze to enter our living room and dining room because there were openings left between the old and new construction. The spray foam insulation was the best decision we ever made for our old house!!There was a draft from our basement into our living room that made the room freezing cold! It turns out once the sill in our basement was insulated with spray foam (we previously had fiberglass insulation) and the walls injected, the loss of energy and the difference in room temperature was noticeable!! And once Dr. Energy Smart injected our dining room wall the wind stopped blowing into the house!!!Doing this has also made a our energy bills lower!! Which is something everybody can relate to!!!! John came over to my home and gave a great solution for my hot attic, he recommended radiant barrier foil insulation.

John had sprayed foam in our crawlspace last year. I called him last week and checked if he could come back and spray foam on some missing spots and also seal the vapor barrier on the foundation wall. He adjusted his schedule and did the job in very reasonable price.

John insulated our sill beam without having to remove the sheet rock, ceiling or walls. He did this by injecting through small holes. Very professional, fast and on time. Definitely would recommend his service to others, he did a great job.

He and Billy did a great job identifying the unusual studs in our walls, injecting foam around them and spackled up every hole. He and Billy cleaned up all of the work and left us extra materials for our use in later projects. Were very happy to now have walls with completed insulation which only took one day to add. John came in today for an insulation consultation. We have an older home, and he was very knowledgable about the air leakage points in the house and recommended great solutions to create more efficiency in our home. He did a complete walk through and took his time to make sure that we covered every opportunity. He even recommended tips for us to create better seals around our windows. He even suggested waterproofing the bricks in our basement (a major water leakage point) with hydraulic cement. Certainly looking forward to working with Doctor Energy Smart.

You may notice his success stories are about him coming back to fix something HE DIDNT DO RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. Hire this guy if you want to argue with an ARROGANT BULLY to try a beg him to come back to fix his terrible work. Here is the evidence in my pictures. Finally gave up on him ever coming back and had to rip the wall down. Never came back even though I told him several contractors told me there were hollow spaces in the wall. Said that couldnt possibly be true. Almost the entire top of the wall is open, a big hole right in the center and the entire right corner missing. Anyone who knows soundproofing knows that any opening renders the project a failure.

Im planning to insulate my very large basement in a 100 year old house built of brick and cement. . There was significant sound coming through the basement and I couldnt figure out the best way to dampen that.John came in and with some sound equipment and basic tests we determined that the largest problem is sound coming through the metal duct work of the house. He gave me some very inexpensive solutions to help alleviate the issue. He and his partner Dan also did some soundproof caulking and filling some holes and gaps around my vents.Other soundproofing companies would have charged me thousands to diagnose and apply solutions that ultimately wouldnt have gotten a better result than what I received for only $250.

I have suffered for years with a cold, drafty house. It has made my life really miserable. It has affected my health. I have been hardly able to sleep and have lived in a state of exhaustion. And I have tried hard to address this problem, to find a solution. I have worked with contractors I found through the New Jersey Energy Star program and have spent thousands of dollars and gotten no relief.It was my banker who put me in touch with Doctor Energy Smart. He searched the Internet and recommended this company on the basis of its excellent reviews. So I called and started the process.John, the energy doctor himself, did a very thorough investigation of my house. He came with the proper equipment with which to evaluate things. He has, for example, a thermal imaging camera which can take pictures and determine where the leaks are occurring and where the cold is coming in. This may sound like just normal procedure, what you would expect from someone in this business, but other people who came to my house never had this piece of equipment. Someone once recommended a company to me, telling me that they had this special camera, but they didnt. The man who recommended them then tried to get his hands on one himself, but he couldnt.After the doctor did his work I still had problems and he was very obliging about coming back and looking for what other problems there could be. He made a number of other adjustments and didnt charge me for them. I appreciate that kind of dedication.John is a very conscientious man, a very dedicated man. He truly wants his customers to be happy with the results. My house is difficult to get in shape because much of it was done by a retired man as a do-it-yourself project. And John is going back and correcting mistakes that were done probably 60 years ago.This is especially challenging because houses are insulated differently now than they were all those years ago, so working on a house such as mine requires what I guess you would call a historical perspective. You have to be able to understand how they did things two generations ago in order to correct mistakes that were made.In at least two places the outer parts of the vents which deliver the air, the gratings, were put on upside down. Nobody ever realized that and they have been that way all these years. And nobody else who inspected my house, looking for the problem as to why I was so cold, ever picked that up.John put me in touch with a company from Whippany called Air 1 who went over the heating system. (You would of course expect that there were problems with the heating system.) What I really appreciated about Doctor Energy was that he told me that he wanted to be there when the man from Air 1 came. He wanted to be able to point out the problems to him and to learn anything that he could from him. That was a very professional attitude. He also came and oversaw the work that Air 1 did. I take it that he works closely with this company for the benefit of the client.Obviously, all this work is expensive. John is very mindful of that and tries to save the client money by doing the least work necessary to get the desired result. He doesnt try to goad people into spending more money than necessary. He does the most basic things and if you are satisfied, then thats it. But if you arent yet comfortable, then you have to consider what the next step should be. He is very concerned about spending the clients money as wisely as possible.My problems are not yet solved, but I do see a very significant difference as far as the temperature in my house is concerned. There have been real results and I look forward to making even more improvements in the future.

We have really thin walls so we could hear our neighbors children screaming/crying and even when they were talking with indoor voices. Nothing worse than hearing a muffled Michael Clayton movie through the wall. We had John come in to install some spray foam insulation to help dampen the noise. Everything went great with the installation, and so far I havent heard any talking through the wall! There was a small snafu w/ foam entering the neighboring unit since they didnt have one outlet covered, nothing we could have ever known, but John came back the very next day to fix everything for them and handled it professionally. Very happy with how everything was handled and resulting noise reduction.
