Iβm a 38 year old female starting Jiu Jitsu for my first time. Been going for several months now. Not knowing what I was getting into, I have felt very welcomed and comfortable at 313 BJJ. It is very clean and well maintained. Outstanding coaches. Mamoon is great and Fabio is very patient and detailed. I highly recommend coming to 313 and we need more women π
Iβve been training at 313BJJ for 3 years now and itβs been fantastic. Very clean, well maintained gym with respectful, talented instructors and training partners. A very welcoming vibe makes it a great gym for any type of athlete!
I attended before covid but the teaching staff were great and the other practitioners were skilled and respectful. Good atmosphere for training. Id still be going if I lived in the area!
I was in town for a month and a half. Usually I train at a different academy and have been training Jiujitsu for about 17 years. Everyone at the academy was very easy to train with. Fabio is an excellent teacher who is always encouraging his students to perform well and learn Jiujitsu. I was thoroughly impressed and will miss being able to train with them. If you are considering training here dont hesitate. You can rest assured that you are in very good company!
Iβm a couple months in and I have nothing but great things to say. I had absolutely no experience at all in BJJ beforehand, but theyβre extremely welcoming to everyone, even beginners. The team culture of this place may be my favorite thing about it. Everyone is very humble and no one has a big ego.
Its a huge, well ventilated building with a high ceiling that keeps the gym comfortable, and this place is very clean and sanitary! All of the instructors are friendly, disciplined, and pay attention to the little details that make all the difference in jiu-jitsu. Also, I love how they have many classes throughout the day, everyday of the week! I can always find a way to fit a class into my schedule!
I visited the gym while hanging out in Detroit for the weekend. The Sunday open mat was great. Lots of bodies, multiple ranks, gi and no-gi. I recommend 313 if youβre in town.
I am a beginner who trains at a academy north of the city close to my home, but work downtown. I decided to drop in for some training at an afternoon class at 313 BJJ. I was very impressed. Professor Lima gave some great instruction on shoulder lock sequences from half-guard. It was followed by some very challenging sparing. Limas students are being very well served by him and are very good. The facilities are also top notch, very clean, and very modern looking (but with some old Detroit charm) with multiple showers (with soap and shampoo provided, which saves you the big hassle of bringing and storing your own in your gear bag -little thing but big plus imho) nice locker room, and multiple restrooms that are separate from the showers. Look forward to dropping in again. Would recommend to anyone who lives or works in the Motor City.
This place is top notch. I dropped in for a class while traveling through Detroit for work. Professor Lima is awesome. He teaches in a style that is comprehensive, he takes time to mention the important details, and he is very present during class. He also personally rolls with his students which I also appreciate in an instructor. The gym was incredibly clean, fresh, and welcoming. Other students were very cool as well. Overall, the environment was great, and Iβll most definitely be back next time Iβm coming through Detroit. Also, they have clean showers on site, which is always a plus when traveling.
Iβve been training here for a couple of years now. This is my first gym I signed up too and Iβm still here. The training here is great and the details from the instructors are amazing. The environment is very friendly all thanks to Fabio and everyone else. Also, Fabio is very supportive and would never discourage anything that could help benefit you as a martial artist as well as being a better person. He is very dedicated to his students and is willing to travel to coach one student. I am grateful for discovering 313 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
313 is a great place to train. The instructors are great and accommodating to all skill levels. With the variety of class schedules and a beautiful facility, I highly recommend 313 BJJ to anyone looking to start training or looking for a new school.
This gym is amazing! Fabio is a great coach, very knowledgeable and the most humble black belt Iβve ever come across. He rolls with everyone during Open Mat, even the white belts. Everyone in this gym is very friendly and welcoming to newcomers. I signed up after my first class. Best decision yet! If youβre interested in BJJ, this is hands down the best gym in the city!
Great place to train. I was in Detroit for three months for work and this place was my home away from home. Fabio is an absolute wealth of knowledge, and the students are all killers on the mat. On top of that, everyone is super nice. If youre in Detroit, you should be training here.
Couldnβt be happier I found this place. Iβm in Detroit frequently for business and this will be my βhome away from homeβ any time Iβm in Detroit from now on. Great group of people, everyone is kind and welcoming...in addition to being a great guy, Fabio is a fantastic teacher and his detail is phenomenal. If youβre local or traveling, do yourself a favor and go train at 313.
Such a great place to train. I came in to train with an old friend and was welcomed with smiles and opened arms. Clean facility and very friendly staff and students. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat to anyone in the area to train!
I trained at 313BJJ during a work trip, and I highly recommend this gym. Clean facilities, good training partners, and Fabio is a great instructor. I will definitely train here again next time I am in Detroit!
Anyone looking for a gym will not go wrong here. From your first steps in and meeting the instructors to rolling on the mats its a great experience. There are no egos, just students who wish to train, learn and teach. If you are looking for a (always) clean, great place to train look no further.I look forward to getting back!
Zander and Fabio are awesome instructors! They are great with all skill levels. They will challenge you both mentally and physically in order to help you improve your skills each and every session.I happen to be newer and they both have taken the time to give me special attention to work on my weak areas. This is important because the technical aspects of the art are crucial to learn properly. They are really effective at making the learning experience enjoyable while also providing an awesome workout. You will get in shape!!!!Another plus is that I like everyone I have met in the class. I would recommend 313 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to anyone!
I took a jiu jitsu class with Fabio Lima at 313 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu today, and it was excellent. The academy was clean and easy to find. The warm-up was fun. The other students were friendly and skilled. Fabioβs techniques were clear. We trained for an hour and a half. And we even stayed after class to work on a few specific adjustments. I am happy that I got the opportunity to meet and train with Fabio and his students. - Brendan -
Fabio is a phenomenal instructor. Very friendly environment and world class instruction. Definitely a great place to go if you are in the area
Fantastic instructors and a wonderful team environment. Facility is beautiful, clean and well maintained.
I stopped in while visiting Detroit. Awesome group of guys to roll with, very welcoming atmosphere and hard but safe training. Ill definitely be back next time Im in Detroit!
In Detroit on business I dropped in to train. Clean, warm and well maintained gym and a friendly welcome. Instruction was excellent. There are 2 instructors one 140lb and one 270lb so they really cater for everyone. There were both male and female students. A great place to train.
Dropped in past 313 as I was in the area for a few days. already after 2 sessions the guys have uplifted my spirits so much with their friendly and active ways to teach. Since beginning my journey of Bjj 6 months ago, iβve found always that the training facilities have been packed with good folk.. this for sure follows the trend!Fabio and Mamoon were some of the most humbled trainers Iβve met! Thanks for all so far and best regards to new comers and those I met at 313.Todo bien till next timeLewis - Scotland
Im 4 classes in and Im hooked. Sparred for the first time today, and although I was bested in every bout, I never felt any pressure from my training partners to keep going once I was exhausted. Everyone is so cool and Fabio is an absolutely amazing teacher. You wont find a better or more inclusive group than this for all age ranges. I found myself looking up to a 10 year old today for his mastery of skills Im yet to even attempt. If youre even just thinking about giving jiu jitsu a try, give Fabio a call! You wont be disappointed!
I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that Detroit had a decent selection of Brazilian jiu jitsu gyms in the downtown area. I was even more surprised to find an incredible gym that also happened to be an affiliate of Marcelo Garcia Academy.313 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a fairly new gym owned by Professor Fabio Lima, a talented Marcelo Garcia Blackbelt, and is a welcoming place for anyone to learn Brazilian jiu jitsu. The gym itself is clean, spacious, and is one of the few gyms that has all the amenities such as locker rooms, bathrooms, showers, and even a washer/dryer. After learning and personally training with Professor Fabio, I can attest that he is a gifted teacher who not only provides clear instructions to his students but also demonstrates great skill in implementing techniques while sparring. The students are both kind and great competitors, just like their professor, which makes for a positive training environment.Itβs amazing to find such a high caliber gym in Detroit and I look forward to training again in the near future. I highly recommend any newcomers or visitors to pay a visit to 313 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu!
Great place to train! I cannot say enough good things about this place, the level of instruction is great, Fabio and Zander are the best! The training environment is awesome and supportive and most important of all welcoming to newbies. So if you are interested you should definitely (they offer a free intro class) check it out and join the team!
Amazing location and incredibly helpful teachers! I trained with them during my visit to Detroit and the hospitality they showed was heart-melting. The training was intense and the training partners really skillful. Definitely recommended!
My daughter an I stopped by to train and we had an amazing experience. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. Thank you so much guys
Marcelo Garcia Black Belts! Ive enjoyed it. Everyone is happy to teach you. A lot of class times. Great instruction. Just do it.
Drop in visiting from Dublin, Ireland. Welcoming gym with a brilliant culture. Fabio is a gentleman and has a great coaching style. I wouldnt go anywhere else when Im in Detroit.
Great school right in the heart of Detroit. Fabio and Zander are great instructors and were very inviting to me when I dropped in from out of town. Facility is very large and clean. Will definitely be coming back!
%100 would recommend
Ive been training at 313 for a month now and I am totally locked in. Zander and Fabio have got me so excited to learn this sport and I dont expect to stop any time soon. Their training has been superb and I cant wait to get back on the mats every time I leave. Everyone has been so welcoming even for someone like me who knows nothing. Definitely come check out the school!som we om
Fabio Lima is an outstanding BJJ coach who has trained under Renzo Gracie, Vitor Shaolin, and then promoted to Black Belt by Marcelo Garcia. Hes been a student of the game for well over a decade and has an a detailed approach to teaching Jiu-Jitsu to the novice and the experienced alike. I have personally trained and learned from Fabio for many years and cannot recommend him enough. Go train!
Definitely a place to train jiu-jitsu at! Im from Chicago and I have been doing martial arts for 4 years. I moved to detroit for college and i joined this gym. People are very friendly here and welcoming. The good thing about this gym is that you will see progress because everyone here is really competitive and will give you a challenge when you roll with them. And there is plenty of space to roll. Fabio has a lot of good techniques and is willing to help his students learn. When its time to roll, he rolls with all belt levels. Hands down its a great gym π
The instructors are very friendly, accessible and knowledgeable. I did not feel intimidated and learned a great deal in my time training there while visiting Family. I absolutely recommend heading in for a session!!
I dropped in for a class tonight and the experience was phenomenal. Everyone was very courteous, hospitable and friendly. The instruction was extremely detailed and attentive. Zander and Fabio are very passionate about jujitsu and spreading the art. Definitely check them out for your BJJ needs in Detroit.
Awesome place to train, the instructor is great, and overall just friendly people.
A very great spot to train. Fabio is a Marcelo Garcia black belt and he will train right alongside you. Zander is great, he is very flexible and will work with you to suit your needs. The best thing about this is the large number of classes and the large student base.Youre not going to find bjj at a better place in Detroit.
Great place to train! The classes are fun and challenging from the warm up all the way through to the rolling at the end, and all in a clean environment supervised by experienced instructors that have competed and trained at the highest levels. There is a large secure parking lot in the back and there are showers available. If youre interested in learning jiu jitsu you owe it to yourself to try this place out.
A gym of ruthless grapplers that can enhance your skills. There is a pro level female mixed martial artist that can outwork a lot of fighter within that gym and every contender is in top notch physical and mental condition. 313 jiu jitsu is the place to be in order to become a great grappler.
I visited 313BJJ while in Detroit for the day. Zander and his team were great. Everyone was was very friendly and the class was fun. Will definitely be stopping by again when Iβm in town. Cheers!!!
Im partial because I am one of the owners brothers but I came in today for an open mat and actually learned alot. The other students were super nice and quick to help with any questions when my bro was busy. I really liked the layout and cleanliness of the gym. Proud bro!
Amazing beginning of BJJ for the first time with 313 BJJ.
Great techniques!! Clean and large mat space... badass location.
Took the Intro class with Zander today, he was awesome, took his time to thoroughly explain everything we were doing and go over correct technique before moving on, starting regular classes Monday!
These guys have a ton of experience and knowledge of championship level jiujitsu. Plenty of mat space & wonderful training. Id recommend everyone interested in learning Brazilian Jiujitsu or even if you want to get in great shape check out 313 jiujitsu
Been training here since it opened. Its in a convenient location, clean, and the instruction is top drawer. Ive learned self defense, leverage, balanced movement/philosophy, and had some great workouts. Definitely my jiu-jitsu home!
I met Zander (one of the owners/instructors) in the fall. He told me he was opening a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym and that I should check it out. I had never heard of BJJ before and when I found out what it was I thought βNO WAY IN HELL AND I EVER GOING TO STEP FOOT IN THAT GYM!β After further discussions with Zander and doing some research on line I was intrigued by the sport and decided to break out of my comfort zone and give it a try. Obviously, I cannot compare them to other gyms but I can say that as a 41-year-old walking in off the street with NO fighting/martial art knowledge, I couldnβt be happier with my decision. First, both Zander and Fabio are extremely friendly and welcoming and the vibe of the gym is not macho at all. They are great at breaking down the moves and teaching them in a way that is easy to grasp. If youβre not catching on to something right way they work with you personally until youβve got it. They take these smaller moves and build them into sequences replicating real life situations and at the end of each class you feel empowered! The gym is super clean. With unlimited classes, you definitely get your moneyβs worth.
This is an excellent school. The instructors, curriculum, facilities, lineage and overall experience is 100%. My team mates are respectful and friendly (good atmosphere). Ive been a student for about 7 months and attending class is my favorite part of my day-time routine. After 7 months Im in incredible shape compared to when I first signed up. Its also not very crowded so I get a lot more one-on-one with my instructor.Curriculum - there is a good balance between self-defense and sport jiu-jitsu. Training is both in a uniform (Gi) and no-gi for more experienced students. Class focus is fairly equally spent on drilling new techniques, sparring and conditioning.Instructors - two great instructors that have a passion for the art and passing on their years of knowledge. Zander and Fabio have studied under the worlds best jiu-jitsu practitioners (Gracie Family and Marcelo Garcia). They are good at explaining the technique portion of the class and correcting bad form until we have it nailed. Theyve really helped me in deconstructing the anatomy of a street fight from a tangling mess of flailing limbs into a rational system of self-defenseSchedule - multiple classes per day to fit most schedules (including 7:00 am Monday, Wednesday, Friday)Facilities - parking is great, secured location downtown (its perfect for me [an office worker]), mats are clean, they have bathrooms and a shower facility.Intro class - if you are unsure, I would just ask for the free intro/eval class which is designed for someone to walk in off the street and take, no uniform or prior experienced needed. The free intro class pretty much had me hooked. Fabio taught me how to deal with someone who attacks me while Im sunbathing at the beach. How cool is that?Downsides? My work clothes dont fit anymore. I have to synch up my belt because I went from size 38 to 32 pants.
My family and I were visiting the in-laws for the holidays in Detroit. Looking for a place to drop in at, I found 313 BJJ. Im shocked at what a lucky break I caught. These guys have started a great school. Clean environment with a large mat space. But most importantly the Instructors were awesome. Zander Heinen and Fabio Lima are excellent teachers, having trained under Marcelo Garcia for 6 years. They broke downs some very complicated deep half guard positions and escapes, taking their time with the instruction. The school is easy to get to, its right off the highway near the Motor City Casino.I truly wish these guys the best with their school, they have all the right things in place. My only regret is wishing I lived closer to train under them more consistently. Oss!
Fabio and Zander (the instructors/owners) are two very high level jiu jitsu guys who are also top quality teachers - they put careful attention, effort, and care into their students learning, and see to it that they improve. Best place to train jiu jitsu in Detroit. Also, the mats are kept really clean.
Nothing needs to be said. If youre about that life, this is where you need to go.
Friendly staff and very professional, other gyms I tried out were very aggressive and tried to take my head off the first day. Im glad I found this place.
Good professional instructors and the place was clean very clean!!!!
