Came in for a straight razor shave and beard clean up on my Wedding day. Sam did an incredible job. The atmosphere and the barbers are exactly what you want from your barber shop. I will surely be a repeat customer.

Glad I found this shop when I moved to the city! I’ve seen Josh each time and he has never disappointed: I have thick, pin-straight hair typical for Asian men, and he knows how to cut it correctly. Josh gives an excellent fade, offers top-notch service, and is a fantastic conversationalist. The shop has great hours, smart music, and an unbeatable view. Can’t recommend Standard enough.

After listening to Sam Whiting be sanctimonious about his barber shop experience, training, and expertise, I expected his haircut to be halfway decent. I could not be more wrong!A day after, when styling the hair myself I discovered he had cut the back uneven. Where one side is long and the other trim. In hindsight, it is not shocking he made a mistake to my cut while talking about himself, his boat and those flannel shirts for the entire 40 minutes.This would be the only bad thing to say, but when I called back today to come in and even it up he told the front desk that the first time he could see me is 12:30pm Monday afternoon, five days from now.It is entirely unacceptable after paying $25 and dealing with severe incompetence and delusion to be told that I have to wait 5 days for a fix.Avoid Sam Whiting and Standard Barber if you want a haircut done correctly, the first time.Off to find another Detroit barber.....(Would give 0 stars!)

Standard Barber is one of my favorite discoveries since moving downtown in May. Jack is truly an artist - I dont think Ive ever had better quality cuts, and on top of that, Im in and out in 20-25 min every time.They also use an app called Booksy for online scheduling, which is refreshing (no calling and asking whats available).Highly recommend checking this place out if youre looking for a barber downtown!

Took me as a walk-in while I was in town and needed a haircut quickly in my downtime. The barber was a veteran and we had a good conversation while he gave me an exceptional cut that rivals my barber back home of 4 years.

I went here twice. Almost three times. This place is the epitome of hipster.First time, I walked in and the reception man told me immediately that I had to make an appointment. The barber must have taken sympathy because he cut my hair then and there and I was happy.Second time I made an appointment. Good clean cut. I noted that every guy in the joint gets the same trendy haircut.Third time I also made an appointment for 4:15. I showed up at 4:20, and reception man told me that the barber left for the day. I was extremely disappointed. I took my business elsewhere, and found an awesome barber downtown thats been cutting hair for decades!

I am picky about my barbers. Had my first cut at this place by Josh. Low skin fade with a hard part with style, he did an excellent job. Will be back again for sure.

Got a really great and quick cut from Jack. He knows how to do a great haircut and a great beard trim and he is easy going. Ill definitely be back. Its cash only so be prepared.

First time coming here. Sterling was my barber. Nice dude and cut was okay. However he messed up my beard lines, both sides were facing different directions! Both sides of my fade were uneven and the hard part wasnt even completely parted. But the worst part is he pushed so hard when cutting my hair my entire head was cut up, irritated and bleeding. Also cut a mole on my neck. Id add photos if Google wasnt giving me a hassle too. Its real bad. Definitely not coming here again.

I started going here in 2013 shortly after they opened. Been getting my hair cut by Jacinto ever since. Hes a great guy and an awesome barber. He can provide very interesting conversation and hes very skilled with his cuts. Originally, the price of a cut was about $25. Unfortunately, over the years his price went up (seemingly to match rents downtown) and now its running $40 just for a haircut. This was the tipping point for me and was not worth it any more, especially when hes constantly(literally every single appointment in the last 6 years) running 10-20 minutes behind. Ill miss going here for the conversation and good times, but $40 is too much for a haircut in this town especially when punctuality is not a priority.

Sure its a fun, trendy place, but there is nothing special about the haircut whatsoever and it is overpriced compared to better options downtown. When I went to get my haircut, my barber was sleeping in the chair for 10 minutes while I waited not knowing what to do. He then cut my crown too short and left me with hairs sticking up in the back. I go to a different barber in the city now who is helping me grow it back out and fix it - for cheaper!

I have been coming here for little over a year. Sam is a great barber and the location is excellent. Fair prices for a great hair cut. I always recommend this place to friends looking for a new barber. Cant go wrong with Standard Barber.

I will never go back to this place again! I need a quick hair cut and beard trim. Sterling was my barber. My fade is tight, but when he demolished my beard. I only wanted it trimmed and basically cut it off.He also doesnt how to line a beard properly. He completely jacked up my neckline and cheeks.

The shop itself has a good vibe and the staff are super friendly. The haircut I received on the other hand was a different story.I went in for a basic, low-maintenance cut. Like a crew/buzzcut. Looked good in the shop but noticed an uneven neckline and sub-par top/side blending when I inspected at home.Not an awful cut but not great. Definitely not worth $25 plus tip.

Only place Ill go in the Detroit area for barber service! These guys are caring professionals with a clear understanding of what you want. As someone with extremely specific needs they satisfy every high expectation. Also the only place Ive found with a complete array of Murrays products, slightly marked up but still cheaper than ordering online with shipping. If youre vintage minded seek no further!

Great service, and I like the attitude of this place. Definitely Recommend them for routine hair slicing. I pretty much just call the day before I want it sliced and they always have a spot.

My fiancé has never found a solid cuttery/barber before moving to Detroit. Now he refuses to go anywhere else. They make you feel comfortable and make sure your hair gets done right.The place is very casual, but dont mistake that for anything but the best service. They play music as you get your hair cut, beard shaved, etc. and have plenty of reading materials while you wait.Appointments are recommended as they rarely have availability for walk ins.

Not flexible with appt time. I usually have to wait pass my appt time to get my hair cut but when this one time I told them I’m gonna be 10 mins late they said they wont see me. For the price $25+ tip, its def not worth the way customers being treated.I have no problem with the quality of the haircut and the barbers, however, and always tip them well.

No no no no my first experience was good in and out with a great cut, second was disappointing no where near the same quality but same barber. My third time here I ask for a good cut because my last cut was disappointing the guy have me the worse cut I have seen from this shop like I was punish for asking for quality. Fourth is my last I came in and say down waiting for my Barber he repeatily stop cutting to talk for minutes at a time, but what takes the cake is the Barber gave this guy a very clean straight razor line up, but i couldnt get that even though i tip evet single time. No Customer care or concern about the Customer needs or time not saying Im impatient but I am quite sure you can talk and cut at the same time really wasteful productivity, and the Customer should not have to ask for the best cut thAt why we came.

Wow. Had high expectations based on the other reviews. Online listing said it was open until 6pm. I drove by, saw the open sign in the window, parked, paid for parking, and headed in. Sign at base of stairs said 12pm-6pm on Saturdays. It was 4:45pm.I could hear the music blasting as I walked upstairs. I opened the door and walked in. The one young guy inside told me he was closed. I pointed out the open sign, and the 6pm posted downstairs and online. He said they were changing hours and he had closed at 4pm. He asked how he could help me?! I said that I had just moved to town and was looking for a new barber. I mentioned I had paid to park. He said he was closed and turned back to his music listening.Disappointing. I doubt he was the owner.
