I rented a car 5 days in advance. Confirmed day of that I had a rental and could pick it up at 10:45pm when my plane landed. Went to get the car to find out they had 3 cars left and all were for preferred members only so the 6 of us in line, with confirmation numbers, were out of luck. No help. No suggestions. A you dont sign my paychecks and those that do say preferred come first and youre not it. Enterprise employees were at least nice enough to point me to the taxi stand so I wasnt stranded at the airport all night.

The car was great - even got an free upgrade! However, when I first picked up the car at the airport, I noticed it was very dirty on the outside and the back seat floor had not been vacuumed. The trunk had not been vacuumed either. I guess I expect to get a clean car when renting. For the money you put out, I think it is fair to expect clean! Made me wonder if they had sanitized it on the inside, as well. I had my own wipes and used those. The car itself was so nice, and gave a nice and comfortable ride. For that, I thank you! The last time I rented with Avis, the same thing happened with the cleanliness of the car.

I will preface this by saying Avis is my least favorite rental company, but because they were over $100 cheaper I decided to give them a try: big mistake. When we arrived there was no staff at the Preferred Counter, so I got in line at the regular counter. Another customer came and stood at the Preferred Counter and someone behind the regular counter immediately went over the help them....why werent they there to being with? When I dropped it off I was directed by the agents behind the counter to drop the keys in the drop box. When I received my receipt I realized they took 1.5 hours to return my car and I ended up charged an additional day. It took over a week for that to be rectified and my account to be credited. Ive been forced to rent with Avis for business for over 3 years and have had approximately 25% of those rentals go as I think they should: clean car, full tank of gas, car where Im told it will be, undamaged car, no warning lights, good customer service. I am so thankful my company is looking to change us out of Avis because I know I will never use them again if I can help it.

With me, customer service says a lot about a company and you have great customer service. Sterling S. at the Des Moines, IA airport is amazing. He is professional and kind and makes renting a vehicle a pleasant experience. I have rented from Avis in St. Joseph, MO also and Moe is also amazing to work with as well!! As long as you have these type of people working with you, I will always rent with Avis! THANK YOU!!!!

Worst experience ever. I booked online and got a call saying they dont have cars available. Then booked it on the phone via an agent who said there are cars available in the city location. Then got a call saying city location doesnt have any cars and asked me to go to the air port. When I went to the airport,, the agent wouldnt honor my original agreement even though it was not my fault.I realized that the booking agent put in the wrong corporate code. So I asked the lady to update it and she wouldnt help at all. Then she charge me more than 4 times the original amount. When I asked why she said I need to talk to Avis corporate if I have questions. Then upon return, they wouldnt print my receipt saying the printer was broken. Then miraculously it works. The team here needs to be re-trained on customer service. I will be calling the Avis corporate and making a complaint regarding the service and messing about I had to deal.

I wish I could give them zero stars. Avis preferred member for 10+ years. Travel constantly for work. I book a 2-week rental with Avis Des Moines Airport, and then call ahead to confirm. I literally had to call 15+ times before anybody bothered to answer the phone. When I finally got somebody, they were like, you are not going to get a car, we are running at a deficit. I replied, Im a preferred member and I have a reservation. He said, doesnt matter, we are running at a deficit and you dont get a car. I had to call corporate reservations where they told me the best they could do would be to get me a smaller car for $300+ more. Now I dont trust that a reservation is worth anything with Avis, which means that I will never rent from Avis again. And I will certainly never rent from this location again. Went to enterprise and they had the same class vehicle for very close to the same price of my original booking. A place where a reservation actually matters for something. Buh-bye.

We got into the Des Moines airport late around 10:30 p.m. We had a standard size car reserved but were told by an impatient agent that we would be getting a minivan. I kind of hate minivans. I asked her if there was anything else available and with an eye roll, she said just a Tacoma truck. I then said I would prefer that if it had an extended cab and she said it did not. So we took the minivan keys, went out to the parking lot, and opened up the van. Several of the seats had tears in them and there were cheap air fresheners stuck into all of the AC vents which smelled like really cheap aftershave. As we were driving out, we saw that the Toyota Tacomas did in fact have four doors but by then we just wanted to get to our hotel. The air fresheners smelled so bad that my daughter and I got headaches so I took them off and put them in the center console. Why a car rental company would rent out a torn-seated stinky car is beyond me. And I get that folks have bad days at their job but this counter clerk was downright surly. Not a good experience.

Avis representatives at pick up and drop off showed care and concern for my needs, and were great at communicating the details of the rental. The only concern was that we rented a 12 passenger van and the tires should have been rotated and oil changed before it was given to us.

This business is Avis and Budget. They rent more cars then are available and leave people stranded with a sorry. Then the Manager Sterling Shadd leaves the location for the employees to deal with the mess. Absolutely ridiculous. If you dont have a car, dont advertise they are available, problem solved!

Reserved an 8 seater got a 7 seater. Driver side front tire had gouge in it. Drove from Iowa to Florida and the tire pressure gage said passenger rear tire had low psi but the passenger front tire was low. Kept losing air so went to avis in florida and they did not come out to look at the issue they sent us to Firestone where we learned the car was very unsafe for driving. The passenger front tire had metal wires showing and all of the tires had no tred. Avis refused to fix and told us to drive back there to switch vehicles. Once we went back we were forced to fill the tank to full or be charged $10 a gallon to fill it. The guy at avis in florida told us the vehicle was 500 miles overdue for an oil change. Then gave us a smaller vehicle to drive back home. We had a hard time fitting 7 passengers, 5 of them being children, plus all our luggage in the vehicle and made the drive home very uncomfortable. Tried contacting the manager at avis des moines airport where we rented the unsafe vehicle and have not heard back from him. Very dissatisfied and will probably never rent from avis again!

Returned my rental with a full tank and was charged $139 for fuel services. The location of rental (Des Moines Airport) will not get back in contact with me despite my efforts to reach out to them. Talked with Avis customer service and they said that if I send a gas receipt they will refund the charge. So this companys strategy is to fraudulently bill you and then leave it on you to provide evidence that the charge was incorrect. Terrible way to conduct business and is criminal in nature. I reported the incident to the Better Business Bureau.

Worst Avis location ever. Not organized at all. Spent over 1 he 45 mins at the counter trying to get the vehicle I reserved or similar. Planed with over a week in advance and vehicle was not ready when got to the counter. I had to drive to the closest airport MCI 3hrs away to get the actual vehicle. When returning to Des Moines the agent couldn’t figure out how much was my final bill as they initially gave me a different vehicle and had an exchange in Kansas City. Any client should be treated the same way but as a preferred client I should be able to a least get some accommodations. Not preferred treatment at all. Now I need to call customer service to find the way to get my bill corrected. Probably another 2 hrs on the phone.

Terrible customer service. Charged me 40 dollars more than contract and they shredded my contract. Manager is ‘downtown’ and nobody can open the box to get the contract back. One staff handling my case is rude. In my decades of car renting from Hertz Alamo Budget Enterprise National Dollar etc, this is the worst I have ever experienced. Can’t believe this is Avis. Avis in LAX and many other cities have been much much better in my experience. Still waiting for them to resolve the overcharge issue.The rental was one way from CID to DSM. After some attempts I reached a staff, possibly the manager, at CID Avis. He reduced the total amount but still it was about 40% over. He gave some explanation which i am not satisfied with.My conclusion is this Avis location is more like those small rental companies that use all means to pile up your rental bill. I had never known that an Avis location could be like that.

While it was mechanically sound, this was the dirtiest car Ive ever rented. On the outside: bird droppings and a bent front license plate; on the inside both front floor mats were missing and on the drivers side the carpet was worn to the metal floor.

Did not have car type I requested, even though I prepaid still added a $250 charge when I picked up the vehicle and it has been almost 72 hours and no receipt on what I was actually charged so far I have paid $530 for a rental that I was told would have cost $280 not satisfied at all

Showed up and waited for an attendant for 2 hours. The place closes at 1130 on Sunday, arrived at 9 and received 0 help. Had to uber 40 minutes to my destination. Terrible.

I left my wallet in my car and the Avis team was amazing - they found it, communicated the situation and made sure it was safely secured until I was able to pick it up. Everyone I encountered (even before the wallet situation) was helpful and kind. Good customer service is hard to find, thank you!

I have rented from Avis at the Des Moines airport twice now. Both times the check in and out were fast and smooth. The employees who helped us were friendly and efficient. Avis did not try to charge us for supposed dings or damage that supposedly happened when we had the car, like another competitor did. The rate was fine. I love that they are located right by baggage claim and that their cars are right outside the doors of baggage claim. I would rent from them again.

I have used Avis Car Rental for over 25 years and have been very satisfied. I recently rented a vehicle from Avis at the Des Moines airport and the service was great, the car was clean and well maintained. I returned the car as usual and two days after I had returned home, I realized I was missing my jewelry pouched which had several pieces of Jewelry that are very valuable. I wasnt sure where I had lost the jewelry, so I called the Avis lost and found at the Des Moines location. They said they had my jewelry that had been turned in by one of their staff. I had someone pick up the jewelry and offered a reward. The Avis Staff turned down the reward. I want Avis and all who read this, to know that I am grateful and very impressed with, not only the service, but the integrity of the Des Moines Avis Staff. Thank you to the staff person who found and turned in my jewelry. God bless you.

The pickup process was easy. I made a reservation before I got there. I found my car easily. The car I got was perfect for my needs while I was in town. The drop off process was odd for me but not terrible. I just parked it in a space and gave the keys and the mileage at the desk. The staff were really friendly which made a big difference.

I book all my auto rentals for work through Avis (Or at least i did) and last week was the first time ive really been disappointed with you. We returned the car 1:36 late and we got charged 50% more of the entire bill ($188 to $275) and keep in mind that was a 4 day rental.. an extra $90 for 1.5hours! i read through the paperwork i received when we picked p the car and i didnt see that outlined anywhere.. then when i called in the guy couldnt care less, in fact there was a time i asked a question and he didnt even respond.. too many competitors to treat customers like that.

I have been working with both Sterling and Brittany from the Des Moines Airport location and all I can say is WOW! Excellent customer service and so personable. I want to give a HUGE shout out to Avis employees at the Omaha airport. Chris the manager, Bree and all of the employees were so easy to talk to and extremely helpful. I had a bit of a crisis on my hands and these people took time out to help walk me through it. I dont know what I would of done with out them! I wish there was more I could do for them other than write a good review and take a survey. Its nice to know that there truly are genuine people out there and Avis is lucky to have such a amazing group of employees!

Ive been a Advantage member for years. Did not get a receipt after having to leave the contract and keys. DONT CALL ANY OF THEIR NUMBERS UNLESS YOU HAVE A HOUR TO KILL! After finally talking to a human being she basically said I had not rented a car. Went online and tried to get a receipt. I logged in and when I requested it the system said they had an error. NORMALLY I get an email receipt before I get on my flight. Been with AVIS for over 12 years. All we use. I hope our company travel agent changes us to National or something. They are my next stop.

Pick up was easy and self-explanatory. Drop off was confusing. No attendants were present in the garage, I had to ask a Hertz attendant (who was in the garage directing their customers) what to do. I had to note my mileage, go inside the terminal, and advise them where the car was parked. The receiving attendant acted like I was inconveniencing her when I mentioned the check engine light coming on.Feb, 2021:That was one bad experience out of many great AVIS encounters.The turn in in IA still needs improvement, though.

Do not rent from this company! They arent Avis, theyre their own branch and do not follow Avis company standards. Their customer service is horrible in person and on the phone. Weve been trying to resolve our dispute with this location for months without any progress. Terrible customer service, after having my reservation for two weeks I was told last minute at the counter that you had to be 25+ to rent a car even though I was traveling on government orders. I was never informed of the 25+ policy at all and after checking I learned that Aviss official policy is that you have to be 18 to rent with official orders. I was even able to make the reservation using my current age (22). Because of them all of my plans have to be change last minute.I can say without a doubt that they will never have a chance at my business again.

One star is too high.Overcharged me on purpose $155.23 when I declined additional insurance.Spoke to multiple customer service representatives by phone who stood by the false charges and would not provide any valid proof or reason to why the charges were made.At the very end, I was offered a mere $20 coupon to use on future services which I denied because even if AVIS is the only option for a car rental when I travel somewhere, I will simply walk.HORRIBLE customer service and immoral desk staff.
