I am not someone who leaves many reviews, but I will make an exception for this awful business. I hired Denver Chimney Sweeper to clean my fireplace based upon their positive reviews, and I regret that tremendously. If you are considering hiring this business, dont, and if youve already hired them to come out I would highly recommend canceling your appointment and working with an ethical company instead. Feel free to read the full details below if youre interested.First, and most importantly, they badly damaged a solid bronze damper handle in my home thats 70 years old and original to the house (see photographs - dents and gouges are obvious but you can also see the metal shavings that were ripped off down below the handle). This antique fixture was in pristine condition prior to their arrival at my house, and the significant damage they called could have been COMPLETELY avoided by simply covering the handle with a towel prior to torqueing it with a set of channel locks. The techs themselves were nice guys, so I feel bad about speaking badly of them, but the lack of consideration for my home on the part of their techs is appalling. There literally are metal shavings all over my hearth stone from the metal they scraped off of the handle.In addition, this company absolutely ripped me off on installing a chimney cap for $450. I will own that this is partially my fault as a consumer, as I should have known this was a rip off when I asked for a differential between the part and the labor and the tech said only its just the price, but I live in a single story ranch home with a minimally pitched roof. It literally took them 10 minutes to install the cap, and I learned after theyd left that I could have bought this part myself for under $50 at Home Depot. So, Im out $400 for having them do it (with their functional hourly rate being $2,400/hr for their work), and I feel like Ive been completely had.The workers came to my home on Sunday 10/25, and I called their office first thing on Monday 10/26 to let them know that they had damaged my home and to let them know that I was aware Id been ripped off on the price of the chimney cap. Their receptionist (again, nice person, though unfortunately working for an owner who lacks accountability and ethics) gave me their owners email address, so I emailed him. I told him that I either needed for him to pay for repairs for the damage done to my home, or I needed him to send his techs out to remove the cap and refund my money for that service. A good business would have done both, and asking for only one or the other I feel was pretty generous on my part.So then I waited. First for two days, with no reply. So I called the business again. Still didnt hear back. So I called again. And so on. After all was said and done, I called Denver Chimney Sweeper 5 separate times, and then finally 9 DAYS after I initially filed my compliant (11/4) the owner sent me an email saying that he couldnt remove the cap because it was already installed (news flash: he absolutely could remove the cap - it would take 10 minutes and almost zero effort) and that he could send a tech to look at the damper handle. Mind you, his tech damaged it in the first place, and the handle needs to be repaired by someone who works with restoring metals - what value is a chimney sweep going to provide on that? Heres a hint: NONE!This is a truly horrible business with atrocious customer service. Obviously I recommend very strongly against hiring this company for new work, and if you already have an appointment with them I would recommend cancelling it. They will gouge you on prices, provide shoddy work, and potentially damage your home. And, if all of these things happen, theyll do absolutely nothing to fix it!
