The Usual is the best! I couldnt be happier with the beard trim I got from Shane Simmons. He gave me exactly what I was looking for. The cut was quick, efficient, and came out just as I had hoped. During the process, Shane was friendly and conversational. Thats not typically something I am looking for, but he is obviously a very genuine, kind, and interesting person.This is the only place I will be going.

I love this shop, and specifically Meagan my long time barber. Nice people, clean space, reasonable prices. I’d recommend this place to anyone. Make an appointment ahead of time. Like any good place, walk ins are limited to none.

You cannot find a better spot to get a haircut. All the staff are consummate professionals, clean cuts and satisfaction every single time. Cant recommend Meghan enough, she is particularly focused on doing exactly what you ask and hopes to follow up to see how your hair grows so she can cut it better next time. Ive had appointments before the pandemic here and they went very well.But recently, I had two appointments with barbers at the Usual within two weeks. Both appointments were cancelled, I never received a notification regarding both cancellations, and my attempts to bring this up to their front-facing employees was met with indifference.On 7/30, I had a 11:30 appointment. Upon arriving at The Usual, I was informed that the appointment was cancelled due to sickness. Which was perfectly fine (I would prefer that during a pandemic). The Usual staff informed me that I should have received a notification about the cancellation but I informed the Usual staff that I never received such a communication. Ultimately, we figured out the problem was that The Usual had an old cell-phone number of mine. I provided my updated contact information, and was very clearly assured and reassured that I would be notified in any future instance of cancellation. No issue.Immediately that day I booked an appointment for 8/17. Upon arriving at my 11:30 appointment on 8/17, I was notified by the employee that my appointment was again cancelled. The employee responded something to the effect that “you can’t fix sick” yet I indicated that the problem was not with someone cancelling but with the fact that I had yet another cancellation where I had never been notified. I indicated that this was the second time this had happened, and that I was coming from an hour away, and he responded with indifference, scanning their tablet thinking somehow that finding an appointment for me, on another day, would somehow rectify the problem. When he pointed to my contact information and showed me my phone number, I saw that the former employee on 7/30 who had assured me that a cancellation would never happen again had neglected to update my contact information. At that point, I decided to exit the store.Why a 1-star review? First, the employee who was supposed to update contact my information on 7/30 never did, despite the fact that he provided assurances that I would be notified of future cancellations.. Second, the employee on 8/17 was absolutely indifferent to the fact that I had come up a second time in two weeks, from an hour away, only to be notified that the appointment was cancelled when I arrived. His response to the fact that this had happened twice and that I was coming up from an hour away was met with no acknowledgement whatsoever. There was no apologies by the employee, no attempt to at least attempt a modicum of customer-service sympathy, just the sort of response where someone refuses to acknowledge their business did anything wrong. Third, in my work, if I cancel something on someone, I employ multiple methods to contact that individual in order to ensure that I am not wasting their time. Its called common decency. It would be exceedingly simple for The Usual to use their same appointment interface scheduling system to send out emails notifying clients of cancellation as well. This would ensure that cancellations go to two methods of contact – as opposed to one.Normally, businesses that are on the front-lines of gentrifying historically minoritized neighborhoods provide better customer service than this. But I guess cancelling appointments with no proper notification is “The Usual.”I await the response here. My guess is whoever responds here is not as good at ensuring good customer service at the point of contact and is rather way better at speaking in an evasive form of customer service circumlocution to hide the fact that The Usual could have done anything to resolve this situation. They’ll respond with bromides while neglecting to acknowledge the heart of the situation. Because when you scan The Usuals 1-star reviews there at least seems to be a common thread of this occurring.Anyways -- you know what would have stopped this 1-star review? Just an “I’m sorry” or a we could have done better here or just even a base level of acknowledgement would have sufficed. Thats it.

This barbershop really had me like WOW! He got me in for a cut last minute. I really appreciate what he did. Now Im able to go to my mothers birthday party this weekend looking clean and handsome! I am deeply impressed by how they handled the service correctly with no hassles at all. I would recommend for sure!

They canceled my appointment with no forewarning and when I asked if they could accommodate on account of an interview I had the next day they said it was not their problem. Do not go here. Even when they do keep your appointment the quality is average at best.

Kirk is great! He is highly skilled and once he knows what you want and determines what will look best he takes it from there. He is also quick, friendly, and overall a great barber and person!

Can your barber take you from chump to hunk in 30 minutes? The folks at The Usual can, and have been helping me get physical affection from my wife for years. Seems that every time I come back from a hair cut at The Usual its kind of ON! I have been getting my head tuned up here for 10 years or so, and with every barber on staff. I typically use Adam but have been trimmed by them all. Every time, I leave happy and looking like the Pintrest photo of Thor I have been showing them for years.

I finally found Brandon and he has been cutting my hair and trimming my beard for almost 3 years now, I can say without a doubt that this man has mastered his craft!! The usual is the place to go if you want to get the best cut in downtown Denver. It is a mix between old school barber shop meeting a bit of modern design. All the barbers here are some of the best I have encountered with a very real atmosphere. If you just want to chill and get a haircut or have good conversation with a haircut and straight razor shave it is the place to go. Now this isnt one of those places where you pay a bunch of money so you can have a beer while getting cleaned up nor does it need to be. This is the place where barbers aim to be the best at what they do and care for their clientele.

Getting hitched, so I booked three apointments for myself and a few other people in the wedding party, and I cannot recommend this place enough! It is extremly clean, and the barbers were all fantastic, especially Shane, who I will be returning to in the future! Super personable/friendly, which made the experience that much more enjoyable! Nice spot for the cooler, young crowd (read: thats not me) with some great barbers. My man has been Shane for years - super solid dude and nice guy. Clean, old school barbershop feel that is always buzzing with activity. You can snag some product here too if you need it.

I have been looking for a barber for the passed couple months. I was nervous to try someplace new but I’m glad I found this place. Brandon “purple” did my hair and it was fantastic. He took his time and focused on the details and I finally got the haircut I’ve been looking for for so long.

I found out about the Usual when googling for a beard trim. Apparently they won the award for best beard trim in Denver a few years ago. Id say they lived up to the hype. I havent had a haircut yet, so Im holding off on a 5-star rating until then. But otherwise, the shop was immaculately clean, the music was good, and the staff were friendly.

Ive gone to several shops in Denver. These guys are the best. It some how manages to be a barber shop and be queer friendly. All the barbers are top knotch. They accept walk-ins but good luck getting a seat in less than a few hours... You should always call ahead.

Ive checked out several barber shops and all had a cool vibe but when I went to the Usual that was it. Ryan Williams was my barber and dude was the coolest realest person I had cut my hair. Talking to him about my day to day life was a relief while getting a bad ass cut I told him it was cheaper than going to therapy. (LOL) Honestly cant take anything away from any of the barbers they are all super friendly and cool. I defiantly recommend anyone looking for a great barber shop with plenty of talented barbers oh yeah in a awesome new location also I recommend The Usual!

Great place with skilled barbers. Ive been looking for a good barber / barbershop for a while now and Ive gotten pretty much the same haircut from a number of different individuals / places.... The usual is the first place that got it right. Ryan listened to me but also already knew what I needed based on my current style. I could tell Ryan used some different techniques when cutting my hair that barbers from other shops did not. Whatever he did, it turned out great. Im rarely happy with a haircut, but this one was great. Ill be back.

Got a great cut from Niki! Cool location and great space. Right beside a brewery and just a few steps away from the awesome coffeehouse Crema. Will definitely be back when Im in the area. Prices could be a little better, but they are understandable given youre in the city.

Everyone at The Usual is incredibly talented at what they do, each has their own style. For a great traditional to a more avant garde style, beard trim, hot shave or more, check The Usual out. The barbers here are incredibly friendly and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming versus other places that seem to have a more hipster than thou attitude or are just looking to fill the chair, cut your hair and get you out. Great shop with great barbers. Shane started cutting my hair at another shop across town about 3 years ago. Then suddenly one day he wasn’t listed on their online appointment page. I was bummed because he is an awesome barber and we always have great conversations while I’m in the chair. I had a few months of bad haircuts and then I found out he was at The Usual. I booked myself an appointment ASAP. I recommend The Usual to everyone.

Go to The Usual! Ive lived in Denver for the past four years, and I have had such a difficult time finding a barber and barbershop that consistently gives me a satisfied cut, that I am beyond relieved this place exists. The vibe here is good and casual. Theres no pressure or feeling that you dont belong or arent cool/important enough to be in here, like some other places. And prices are super reasonable, especially in Denver, where apparently haircuts are equal to gold. Ive had plenty of problems with other people cutting my hair the right way. Thats not the case with Shane, and I trust any other barber here to be just as good. Seriously, its a great place in an even better location, and you get that old, barbershop community-feeling that I really enjoy. If you need a haircut and want a potential longtime barber/shop, The Usual is the place to go.

Although we are natives of Denver, we moved out of state a few years ago and are a little unfamiliar with the ever changing businesses in the city these days. We were in town visiting family for the holidays, and my husband got an absolute butcher job from a small shop on Colfax. It used to be the site of his favorite barber, but has since obviously changed hands.We called around to numerous shops to get it fixed, but no one could squeeze us in.Chelsea from The Usual was so gracious and kind. She said she would make time to get us in between her appointments, and did a wonderful job. We are really grateful for your kindness!! Thank you!! This is the best Barber, not only in Denver but the continental US. In fact, I live on a small island off the coast of California and I swim to shore and then take a Greyhound to Denver once a month for hair cuts. Afterwards I am the best looking guy on my island... I am also the only guy. :(
