Ive been training here a number of years. Ive been around the block and seen a few gyms in my day. These guys are constantly putting back into the gym and evolving as necessary to offer classes and structure people desire. Give these guys a shot at any level of training and if you are willing to put in the work, you will progress.

Met and exceeded my expectations. I was in town for a few days from Canton and needed a place to lift for the day. Very cool place to lift, lots of equipment and motivating atmosphere. The staff were helpful and quickly showed me where things were and pointed out some rules but didnt bog me down letting me get to move some iron. I plan on being in Dayton at least a few times a year and I will be sure to return. If I lived here this is the gym Id be in.

I read a book about people over 40 maintaining a better quality of life. It basically recommended power lifting since the fast twitch muscle is the worst hit in terms of muscle wasting during old age. This was not an exciting revelation as I had not done any serious lifting for around 18 years.I joined but was nervous even walking in the door. A nice young lady offered to help me. She was very kind an offered to make sure I got where I needed to be. A great first impression. When the power-lighting class started, I was welcomed by Dillon the coach. He asked me a few health questions and we got started. It was brutal. You have to lift heavy stuff to get stronger and the first few weeks of this just hurts. What I would like to point out is that it is the right kind of hurting. It is muscle soreness not back pain, etc. They are very cautious with safety and proper form in this class. My form is garbage, I am still practicing my form as I have to relearn proper technique. Old, bad habits die hard. But not only does Dillon spend time with me working on my form but the other classmates as well. They have often taken time to demonstrate good form and critique me as I perform my lifts. Their critiques do not come across in a demeaning way at all. Though they have nothing to gain from my success, they still take the time to help me.I would also like to mention how excited I get when others in my class are able to push to their next goal. As I spot or just cheer them on, I feel like I get an adrenaline rush as they succeed on their lifts. The camaraderie here is very strong. The gym its self is on the back side of the building your GPS system will take you to. It is an old looking brick building with some black double doors in the back corner with a spray-painted DG on it. Once inside, to your right you’ll see a shelf for your gym bag. A 45-degree glance to the left will direct you to the restrooms and the office. Everywhere else you will find weights, racks and big strong people. Just beyond the office is another room with weights which I think they said was mostly for the Olympic lifters. This gym is adding extra equipment. Most recently, they have added additional racks for squatting etc. It is always nice to have more options/equipment available. In speaking of what the gym has, I guess I should say what it doesn’t have. It doesn’t have mirrors everywhere. There is not a long line of treadmills and stationary bikes. It does not have anyone who has gone out of their way to act macho and be rude to me as a new, less strong member. I also have not noticed anyone overtly checking out anyone else or flirting with each other. It may happen but it has not been apparent.I also want to mention Jeff Downing. He is a massage therapist who is affiliated with the gym. He works upstairs in the ARC (Athletic Recovery Center) and is an excellent resource on sports related issues. As a health professional I can usually see through it when someone is trying to wow me with medical speak and all of our conversations have shown him to be quite knowledgeable and most importantly – Effective. He HAS HELPED ease the pain my muscles are going through as I begin my training. In the end I would recommend this gym to anyone who is trying to find a gym that is focused on getting stronger with a no-nonsense, hardworking approach.

Ive met 4 different members who go to this gym, each one of these women have been very rude and have had no respect for others property. Id love to check out the gym if it werent for the fact that I already know the kind of people Id be surrounded by.EDIT: The owner reached out and seems to care about the situation. Well see what happens and if the problem gets resolved, but if I had to guess Id say hes had no idea his members are using his gyms name right before they do something dishonest.

I was in Dayton, OH for business and was looking for a place to lift. Came across this place on google and saw the website along with photographs and reviews. I decided to go check it out being Im a fan of the old school style gyms. The owner, Marcus (previously trained at west side barbell), was a really cool and down-to-earth guy. Not only did he let me lift there when I was in town, but gave me a few pointers on my deadlifts and squats. Very nice guy. All of the other members that were present when I was there were also very welcoming and friendly. I highly recommend this gym.

The place looks like it’s gonna fall apart how is this even allowed? The gym staff is super rude. It’s like as soon as you walk in you’re immediately being sized up. You don’t feel apart of the gym it feels like they feel threatened by you.

Felt at home as soon as I walked in! Very old school vibe with modern, quality programming! If you are looking to excel in powerlifting, weightlifting, crossfit, or strongman or if you are a high school, collegiate or semi pro athlete and need to get bigger, faster, stronger, this is where you need to be. There is no other place like it in or around the Dayton area!!

I have always been and avid gym rat being a division 1 athlete; the leadership, tutelage and atmosphere at the Dirty Gym (DG) is completely surpasses anywhere I have ever worked out. If you really want to see results and gains the DG is the place to be!

I have been coming here about a month now, and I have been sore for about a month now. So they are either really good trainers, or I am a realllllly bad student. Legit though, this is my first time having formal instruction in the Gym. After a long hiatus due to injury, my form had become garbage, and trust me, you can get surprisingly strong lifting incorrectly; however, you are still lifting like garbage. Through their instruction, my form is getting cleaned up, and I am also learning more about Olympic lifting when I primarily did powerlifting. The thing that sold me the most is that the entire group is supportive and they collectively do push you to do better, but they are not going to push you to injure yourself, which is why I avoided submitting myself to having a trainer for a long time. There is a fine line between pain being weakness leaving the body and pain because your body is about to break. Thankfully, the trainers here, just by observation, can usually tell the difference and will tell you to step it up or lay off. Also, there is on occasion puppers and doggos to pet = 5% more gains.
