Loved this location!!! I scheduled an appointment after reading the great reviews. I came in at my scheduled time and they were amazing from start to finish. Very polite and friendly staff. They gave me an estimated time it would take for an oil change and tire inspection. I was so shocked that they performed the services in a faster time than they anticipated. I’m used to waiting hours and hours at a car shop, but Pep Boys in Darien had me out of the door in 40 minutes!!! It was truly a great experience and the main person working the front desk was very kind and professional and extended his well wishes on my travels out of state. I was very happy they were the ones who serviced me, I felt very safe on the road and made it to SC with zero issues.I would highly recommend this location. Especially as a young female, it is hard to find a shop that won’t pull one over on us. I’ve been to so many other shops that were not welcoming or the staff would tell me a thousand things are wrong (and then my dad or brother would inspect my new car and find no issues).That being said, it was SO refreshing to have services with this Pep Boys in Darien. Amazing staff, quick, trustworthy, and thorough (without the bs). Highly recommend!!! 11/10

Horrible experience. Waited over 2 hours for new tires. Was told one price and charged considerably more. Horrible communication from the staff, who failed to explain the pricing, charged over $200 more than what was told to me. The only thing staff could say is that they have this problem all the time. Time to retrain your staff Pepboys. Practice ethical sales.

I was brining my car for oil change on this location for for 3 moths or more and last time when i brought the car was almost out of oil. And same person who change oil in this location he overtight the oil plug in my last oil change and was losing oil all the time i was very lucky to not damage the engine....next step what i did i went to the Diller and replace oil pan for 550$..I learn my lesson...

If I can give less Stars I would. Arrives 15 minutes before closing time doors were locked someone was on the phone and refuse to acknowledge that anybody was even at the door. No service required all I wanted to do is buy a windshield wiper. I wouldnt go to this place for anything youre better off at any other location or even Walmart!

Took my car in for brake noise and a light bulb change. Recd brakes second front set from pep boys in a year. They fixed the brakes and the bulb, gave me an oil change and new air filter without even calling me. Not impressed with the bill padding and shoddy parts. Also did some sort of caliper rigging that I hope dont fail. Never again. Back brakes they replaced are out again and dude I dont drive this car but local 5 min run as I work from home

Worse customer service or No customer service?Went on Sunday morning asking for an oil change. Stood there about half an hour but no one showed up in the front desk so I left. Technicians saw me but they could not care less.

Wow!! Ive never been to a car repair shop that actually show! you! Whats wrong with your car before you pay for it! I always use to go back to my chevy dealership for my car and they always come with a hefty bill but noooo proof! But not this place! They didnt do that to me! I had some electrical issues with my head lights and they honestly showed me the issue, wow you cant beat that type of customer service! I had a some what large bill but!!! The fact that everything was explained to me and the proof of the problem!! Plus a great deal of professionalism made it so easy to want to spend my money there and no where else. I will definitely go back to this shop in the near future if I have any type of issues with my car!

Went in asking for a battery maintainer, the salesperson wasn’t really familiar with the product. I ended up buying it from an online source since they didn’t happen to carry the one I wanted. I was hoping for a bigger selection.

I purchased a Auto battery for my 12 Dodge Challenger at the PEP Boys Store # 1466 on 7/14/18 which is a Bosch AGM battery ( Store # 1466, Service Tracking # 2046587), but it was bad and did not work a month ago that caused my car dead, I am lucky this is with four years warranty. Yesterday 6/16/20, I took off it from my car to let me wife bring the battery to the Store to change it, where the store location is 6818 S Kingery Hwy, Darien IL. 60561, the Store people said to her the battery has been disconnected, then they gave her change a Champion one that I have check the store online to cost around $131.xx plus Tax if purchased with instant discount, my original purchased one was a AGM which much more expensive to cost me $179.99 plus Tax with the discount at that time ( Store #1466, Service tracking #2061871 this year). I don’t think the store treat her as fair and the value of replacement is equivalence, they should gave her to change at least a AGM one and the very similar price. I have check the store online they even have the Champion AGM battery to fit my car which is more expensive to cost around $151.xx plus Tax with instant discount that is even much cheaper than my original one to be returned. So, based on the reason above and what I have investigated, as a consumer, I should have some credit for this case or have a AGM one as the value equivalence, which is my request.But I got a response from the local store, at which the person gave me a lot of explanations for this case, a sentence, they do not give any credit, which waste my time and it is NOT fair for a consumer! Anyway, I have to give this store a lowest review and do NOT recommend to use their service. Even they are close to my home. I should support the business in my town, but you should not do it.

5 star oil change and a 1 star experience. One of the strangest oil changes I ever had. Came in the store and waited at the front counter for close to 5 minutes for any help. I looked in back and I could see a guy standing in back by the garbage dumpster on his cell phone. He saw me and came in to help. Jessie took my information and gave my keys to the girl mechanic there and my car was brought in. My car was there for 45 minutes. During that time Jessie was on his cell phone behind the counter talking to someone about someone who owes him money. He was so annoying and unprofessional. I went outside just so I didnt have to listen to him and his money problems. I eventually came back in to the shop and could see Jessie out back vaping and looking at his phone. The girl mechanic finished my car and completed my transaction. I asked her is Jessie always like this. She said hes new and couldnt say. As I was leaving Jessie walking by the parking lot and started talking to me about my car and some random things that made no sense. He called me bro probably 5 times. I wasnt sure if he was high or just mentally unstable. All I wanted to do was leave. The girl mechanic was great. Reviewed everything with me. The only reason for a 5 star review was her.

Tried to charge me for a wheel balancing while replacing TPMS sensors. The website says this is included. If they charged you for both services, contact a class action attorney.

Had to get a tire fixed the other day. The manger was extremely polite and provided great customer service. I was on a tight timeframe and they made sure they got it done and on my way in time. Great experience.

My girlfriend stopped in for a service on her breaks. She was quoted a higher price than she expected and reacted quite poorly to the associate. Despite that, the associates remained very calm and helpful. They explained everything that needed to be down and showed the parts that needed to be replaced. I was replacing tires and I asked mechanic to take off little black mudflaps from VW Jetta once the car was in the air and they were taking off wheels, counting on that it wouldn’t be additional charge since it’s only two screws or if there was a charge they would tell me. They didn’t tell me anything and charged me $70 for taking off 4 mudflaps with two screws. If I knew I could do it myself. Definitely not going there again.

I can’t say enough good things about this Pep Boys. The manager, Jesse, used to work at the Oak Lawn clinic and I actually followed him over here when he told me he was leaving. His customer service and professionalism is unparalleled. The Darien location used to be run down but he has totally turned it around. All the staff is friendly and service is quick and they work with you to figure out what’s best for your car and don’t try to run up the bill with unnecessary work. 10/10 would recommend!!

This morning I noticed the dummy light on in my car for low tire pressure. After a long, hard, difficult day I called to make an appointment. Aaron was extremely friendly and efficient. This is a place that takes care of the customer!! Top notch!  I had a messy situation that couldve easily turned stressful for all involved. The manager, Brian, turned that around and did everything in his power to make my experience a painless one given my situation. What a patient, empathetic employee to listen and let me ramble my concerns in full before offering a solution. I work for a retailer myself and one of the things drilled into us over and over again is that in today’s world, customers don’t just care about what product you sell, or even who your brand is. They care about the service experience. (Same reason why Chick Fil A gets away with being open less days a week, while charging more for their food and despite that making triple the profit of McDonalds.) As a result, the customer experience is the ultimate differentiator from the competition. Brian clearly has nailed this concept and delivers just that. I will be a repeat customer again and again.

I just came in today to drop off a car for Enterprise car rental and was treated EXTREMELY unprofessionally by the woman working the front counter. I heard her cussing under her breath and when I asked her what she had said started mumbling something that I couldnt make out. I work for the tow company and drop off at many locations during the day and have NEVER been treated as such! She definitely owes myself and the customer that was at the counter an apology! The customer stated shaking his head in discuss!

I called this location today wondering if the unlimited tire rotation and balance I purchased could be used at this location if I bought it at another location Eric asked me where I bought it and I told him Hodgkin then he told me I need to go back there. I wanted to clarify so I reiterated what I gathered from his response and that is I have to go back to the location I purchased the package to have the service done. Then he changed his mind and said he could accommodate me there and asked when I wanted to setup an appointment. I was so confused. I wasnt sure if he lied the first time out of laziness or lack of knowledge, or changed his mind out of sympathy. I tried to get clarity so I asked him again if I can use it at any location. He said yes. So I guess the former conclusion was right. Needless to say I didnt feel comfortable making an appointment.

The worst place for doing anything on your car. We went just to replace tires and they first put just four bolts an our tires instead of five (so we can die somewhere without wheels on the road) plus they broke our breakes. After we gave them car to fix that what they broke, they fixed doing nothing and when we give them car for the THIRD time (should I meantion that Uber cost during this days were high) they diagnostics some part of the car doesnt work properly and they are asking 900$ for that. That is impossible because car worked amazing, we just wanted to put winter tires beacuse of the snow!!!! So if you want to ruin your good car or to broken car makes worst, this is proper place! Unprofessional,unproductive, perfect for losing time and money! I dont know how they still exist and who goes there. I suppose somebody which never ask for others opinion and review! If I could give them 0 stars, that would be too much for them.

The Asst. Manager Ray was very rude and has poor customer service. let me paint a picture for you. Brought My 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 into the shop which i have been bring it there for some time now. They installed Brand New Tires on them 3.5 years ago roughly 35K miles on the tires. i noticed that i had been filling them up on a regular basis and i wanted them to address the issue. i dropped it off on a Thursday morning not needing the truck as it is a spare and while i was there i asked to do a oil change. i called later that day and they said they werent able to get me in no big deal.... so i called Friday morning they still didnt touch it and it was the next one in Ok.... So i get a phone call from RAY stating that i needed new tires that all 4 were shot and while they had the tires off they looked at the brakes.... and i needed all brand new brakes (now they put them on about 15000 miles ago)..... i was hot over the whole thing and ray was making me feel like a child and hung up the phone when i told him to put my truck bag together and i would be picking it up and dont do any of the work... when i arrived i had my office manger go in and pay as i didnt want the issue to escalate. the truck was still on the lift and the tires were off still...... we paid and i took it to another location (NOT PEP BOYS) but a local location and they went to look at the tires and 3 tires came off just fine... well the 4th tire which is the drivers side front ALL 5 LUGS were zapped on and couldnt be removed with a 6,000lb air wrench. So I called Pep Boys and guess who answered the phone RAY well ray said that he never took the tires off... when i have proof... and that they will not cover over tightening and that i would have to pay to replace the lug screws... I WILL NEVER us Pep Boys for anything and I will be talking to my layer as this was uncalled for. Worst customer experience i have ever had...

Jessie is outstanding.Needed a MAF sensor repair and it was handled really well.Had to go back since my maintenance light came back on, but the turn around was more than reasonable.I was frustrated only because I needed to pass my emissions test. But Im happy to report that Ive had little issue with my vehicle since my last visit. Im more than satisfied with the service I received.Thank you so much Darien Pepboys team.

I had a great experience with this location today. Walked in, told Kevin--a fantastic employee--I wanted a standard oil change. He said Ok! with no problems. They had me in and out even though it looked pretty busy.

The gentleman at the desk was too busy making flight arrangements to talk to me. When he finished making his plans to travel, I asked if they fixed mufflers. He said yes, but that I should have come in earlier (I walked in at 4:20PM) as the mechanics were supposed to have left at 3. They close at 6PM.

I had a great experience here, on a Sunday even. They worked with my work schedule and had my vehicle done before lunch. Andrew was very nice and helpful. I highly recommend this Pep Boys.

Got my girlfriend two front tires. Good price and very fast.

I took my car for AC problem. They did a wrong diagnosis and recommended for compressor replacement. I got compressor replaced at different auto shop, but problem was not resolved. The auto shop did a diagnosis and found out that AC controls unit was faulty. They told me that Pep Boys did a wrong diagnosis and there was no problem with compressor. I paid Pep boys to find the problem and their wrong diagnosis costed me additional money and time in compressor replacement which was not bad. I recommend everyone to avoid Pep Boys as they dont know what they are doing.Edit: After writing to pepsocial (Case# 656371), the store manager called me and offered a full refund for closing the case. I agreed with his offer despite losing $700 in non-faulty compressor replacement. He told me that I will receive a refund either through a check or on my credit card. It has been two months and nothing happened. pepsocial is also not responding to my emails. The whole system is untrustworthy.

Great job by Mark. Been getting my car serviced for a few years at this pepboys. I used to go to the pepboys in Hodgkins, but they were always too slow and lacked the personal service that Mark provides. Mark always greets me as soon as I walk-in and makes me feel at home. Not enough stars to reflect my appreciation.

I went in to get a quart of oil not a person to help me. then the cashier was extremely rude. You lost a customer

I came to get an oil change back in January and the mechanic had hard time to get my drain plug off. It took some doing but he finally was able to get it off and put a new plug on. Anyway, either he did not tight the plug enough or the plug was defective. I had oil leak for months, I guess was also my fault not noticing till my engine starting to make awful noise. Now, my engine light is on and my shop guy tells me it’s going to cost $1,200 to repair. I’m very angry/disappointed with this situation and inadequate service I received.

My wife and I have been coming to this store for years. I had an oil change appointment and was told by jessie that they were too busy and would be an hour or two before they could get to my car. There was only 2 cars inside???? I was going on trip so I said I would wait. Whats the point of an appointment if it isnt honored? Jessie left to the back. I could see him on his cell phone smoking for at least 15 minutes with no one watching the front. The phones were ringing and he never came up front. The manager (white guy with short blonde hair) entered the store with a mcdonalds bag and jessie came in and told him he was leaving for lunch. The manager asked me a few minutes later which car was mine. I asked him what was the point of having an appointment if I have to sit there for an hour or two waiting to get my car in. He looked puzzled and apologized. I was probably to harsh on him. He got my keys and brought my car in and got a technician to start on my oil change and then continued working on the other vehicle he was fixing. My car was done before jessie got back from lunch. Why couldnt jessie do the same thing that the manager did? Why tell me it would be an hour or two before my car would be brought in? Maybe I wasnt spending enough.

Ordered tires that were supposed to be run flat online, they were not. When this location called to verify my appointment I asked the guy were the tires run flat, and he replied they would only install run flats on my type of car . The tires were not run flats, and the tech asked if I still wanted them. Completely wasted my time! At least let me know that you made a mistake, I would have respected that!

I went in for an oil change and the guys were great. The oil change was only took 35 mins. Store Manager Eric Gonzalez explained everything well, and I was in out in no time.

Never never ever take your car to pep boys. -10 stars. The manager Tim is really a nice guy...he took me to work and then home. But after 2 tows, 6 months later same problem...only the part is under warranty not the labor ($250). Sorry pep boys, just give me my warranted part . Im taking my car elsewhere. Over $1000 spent for a $450 problem. Such a stressful situation.

Terrible repair shop. Not only this location, the whole pepboys name is messed up.Employees do not know what they offer and do not know about cars. They will trick you and offer services that they can not perform and charge you high amounts for services that they did not perform. Very amateur and lack of customer service. Even I contacted the customer service, they do not even read what I wrote in the email, they dont even know what I am talking about. If I were you I would carefully select a good mechanic or you would like to go for a chain, I would at least choose any Meineke over this one because at least there are better mechanics working there and they actually listen to what you are asking them to do. PepBoys? ahh they have lack of everything. Do NOT even step in to one of thir shops.

Ive gone to this shop 3-4 times, have spent nearly $1,000 in the last few months now and each time theyve amazed me and have gone above and beyond the call of duty.The first time was for breaks, they came in underestimate and on time.The following visit my oil cooler on my Volkswagen broke. I asked if it would be alright if I sourced the part and had them do the labor, again no problem what so ever, since the oil cooler was broken, they suggested that I flush the radiator chemically to ensure the coolant system was in working order. They took 4-5time flushing it over and over again to ensure that it truly was cleaned out and done right - the first time.This last visit I needed a front drive axle replacement. Again I sourced the axle, however since it was a VW they didnt have the correct tool to replace the axle. They accommodated me beyond my expectations and I wasnt even upset about the situation, since Im very easy going. They bent over backwards to make it right, even though the issue was of no fault of their own, which amazed me.They are honest, forthright, and genuine. They tell it like it is without being rude or condescending or belittling. I commonly say that I know enough about cars to be dangerous if you will. Theyll respect your knowledge (or lack there of), give you an honest and fair assessment of whats needed, and theyll bust their asses to make it right in a timely manner, no matter the situations. For some reason if theyre incapable of doing the repair, theyll say so and never give you the run around by trying to say you need XYZ service that really is unnecessary.Yes their a business, but they value doing the right thing over making tons of money over unnecessary sales that dont benefit the customer.Its really refreshing to find a shop who down to earth and treat all of their customers with the dignity and respect they deserve.Theres a reason why I say theyre the only shop Ill go to, and I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who needs work done. My sincerest thanks to Tim (Store Mgr) and Rudy (Mechanic who does all the work on my car) and the only person Ill let touch it at this point. And if Rudy cant do it for some reason he referrers me to someone who can.Dealerships are out to make money, and really sell you a new car. PepBoys in Darien is out to make things right at a reasonable cost without the run around from like a Dealership would give you.Bravo Boys. Keep up the good work! Trust me, Ill be back for more work the next time its due.

Visited as a potential first time customer. Pep Boys has a deceiving online practice of drawing in consumers with a free A/C check turns into an up sell. The free check is just a check to see if the fan is turning and if the air is blowing cold. Thanks for telling me what I already know. The full A/C check is a $61 service. Its not whether or not I could afford $61, its the principal of drawing in a person with a deceptive promotion.

Store is extremely inefficient and uncaring w customers,scheduled appointment for tire installation and when I arrived said they dont take appointment,left grease on rim of tires after waiting several hours for installation.management and staff is very rude and was unable to address my concerns regarding my vehicle,highly suggest taking your vehicle to another shop for service

Tim the manager is a nice guy but his workers are slow and I have had many return visits because they messed up.

The service is very nice!

I got there at 7am when service opens and no other customers were there. I needed my tire plugged. They guy told me he couldnt take me in until 10:30 because people who have yet to show up are coming at 7:30. I was sent away because a possible customer might come in 30 minutes later than me.
