100% would recommend to any guy. Michael can work magic with a pair of scissors and I have longer hair and it is usually harder for people to cut and style. But Michael is AMAZING it’s not even a challenge for him, and the shop has good feel to it unlike any other barber shop. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

I have been to many salons and barbers in my life, and none of them understood my hair. It wasnt until after years of discovery and research that I found Michael. He knew the capabilities of my hair the second I walked into my first appointment. I have never felt confident in my hair ever before the end of that first appointment. Frank Es is more than a haircut, Micheal brings a delightful spirit, and I remember even our most intellectual conversation on the arts, writing, and theatre. His work is exceptional, hes incredibly professional, and lives his life the way he portrays in the shop. Its all about the shave!!! Ive been looking for a new spot to get a my haircut and the occasional shave for the past few months. Im pretty particular when it comes to my hair and have coarse stubble and sensitive skin, so its hard to find a barber that doesnt leave me walking away with razor burn. Simply put Michael gave me the best cut Ive had in a long time, he talked me through why he was cutting my hair a certain way and what I should be doing when styling. More impressive was the shave, Michael made sure that my face was properly moisturized, took his time with the razor, and made recommendations for proper after care and shaving tips to save my skin. Michael definitely has earned a life long client!

Hands down the best haircut Ive ever had! Not only is Michael great at cutting and styling hair, he knows the art of conversation. I cant tell you how many times Ive gone to a barbershop and ended up sitting in awkward silence for half an hour while they cut my hair, but that wasnt a problem with Michael. Hes friendly, personable, and he makes you feel right at home. Not to mention the shop itself is awesome, the walls are chalk full of old photos, newspaper articles, records, quotes, etc... you feel like you just walked right into the 40s. I would also like to add that Michael is the only barber that has actually told me how to style my hair after he cut it, which is extremely helpful!

Michael is the most incredible barber I have ever experienced! I am 70 years old and I have had hundreds of haircuts from old school barbers to hairdressers. I brought a couple of pictures of how I wanted my haircut. Michael wasnt interested in them! He looked at the shape of my face and the texture of my hair and told me how my hair should be cut. He was exactly right. I have two nasty cowlicks I have struggled with all my life. Michael made them disappear! He parted my hair on the opposite side and used the cowlicks to give my hair more body.Michael has created a very hip environment but not too hip for an old guy to be comfortable.I thought $50 was expensive for a mans haircut but I was wrong. A haircut from Michael is worth all that and MORE! No one else is going to cut my hair and no one else should cut yours.

Michael is the man! Always good vibes going into his shop. From the decor to the music to the conversation, everything is chill. My guy talks the talk AND walks the walk. Best taper fade Ive ever gotten. Ive been going to Michael for over three months consistently, and he is by far the best barber Ive ever had. His prices are pretty fair, considering everything he has to offer: whiskey, haircut, beard trim/cleanup, shampoo/conditioner, hot face towel, neck shave, and shoulder/neck massager. 10/10 recommend. Been coming to Michael for almost 4 years now, and he has never let me down. Not only are his haircuts top notch, but the treatment you get is amazing. The location itself is really well decorated, clean, and overall makes you feel good. Michael always ensures that you are comfortable, and even though he already knows what to do with your hair, he will still ask you first what you want.Other places charge you the same amount and dont even wash your hair (which is crazy), so thats a no-go for me. Michael really cares about his customers and ensures that they always leave better than they did coming in. Ive come to respect him not only as a barber, but as a friend.

Frank Es is an awesome spot to hang out and get cleaned up. I have been going to Michael for the past two years to get my hair and beard cut since I was convinced he would be a great go-to. I trust him completely to assure that my haircut and beard trim will turn out great with very high levels of satisfaction, its pivotal for me to have someone I can trust to do a great job. I would highly recommend anyone in the east bay to check him out, you will not be disappointed. Plus, enjoying a nice whiskey while youre there is always a big bonus.

I’ve been getting haircuts from Michael for like 3 years now, and saw him before he opened his own shop. Not only does he give a damn good cut, but he’s a great human being to boot. Give him a visit, you won’t be disappointed!

Michael is an excellent barber (he trains other barbers) and an exceptional host. Go while you can so you can brag to others that you got a cut from one of the best - seriously. I have a pretty good natural baldness and Ive found that only very experienced, detailed barbers can cut it in a way that it blends well. I dont know the right terms to use but when a less experienced barber cuts it all even I look more like Fiar Tuck. I didnt have to give Michael a bunch of detail and I walked out looking as good as when my barber at home on the east coast cuts it. Note-his shop is upstairs so somewhat easy to walk past at night.

Part 1: Until I met Michael I had never had a haircut I liked. That is not an exaggeration. My hair is thick, difficult to control, and used to quickly become the shape of a triangle. My first visit with Michael he was excited to cut my hair, quickly described a cut to suit my face shape, and gave me a haircut that looked great, was easy to maintain, and stayed manageable long after my visit. Frank Es is not a cut by numbers kind of place. Michael takes the time to get to know you and compose a cut to suit your unique features. H takes pride in what he does and goes out of his way to deliver a high end service. His place has a throw back vibe down to the hot towel and straight razor. You feel pampered and taken care of throughout. Michael is always classy, witty, and down to talk at length about any topic, big or small. Never do I have to sit through an awkward silence or suffer through inane small talk. I will never seek out another stylist, and neither should you. I (and my wife) are so thankful for Frank Es and Michael!Part 2: Ive never posted a part two to a review, but Michael deserves it. Google, if youre reading this please grant an exception so I can give Frank Es a 6th star! Michael is a cut above most people out there, which is even more important in times like these.
