The staff did a great job assessing my teenagers and introducing them to barbell training. They have made amazing progress very quickly. They are more athletic and recover more quickly from sports (ex: football). More importantly, they now have a solid foundation for a lifetime of strength training. Many thanks to this staff for making a profoundly positive impact on my kids.
I’ve been working out here for almost eight weeks and it’s great. The trainers are knowledgeable and are the best in Dallas for power-lifting, the others working out are friendly and fun to be around, and the program works. I gained over five pounds of muscle in my first month. It’s a smart system - instead of paying $1200+ for a personal trainer three times a week, you pay a fraction of that and share a trainer with a few other people. The trainers watch your work sets and help you plan each workout. Each person has their own power-lifting rack (no more waiting an hour for one at the gym) and you get all the attention you need. Highly recommended.
Ive had two sessions and Im already in love with the people and philosophy of lifting / training. The coaches / trainers pay attention to the details. Theyre helpful, encouraging, and determined to help you grow in multiple ways. As a new member, Im stoked to be here and Im ready to achieve a level of fitness / health that I have wanted my entire life. It starts now and Im grateful for Starting Strength Dallas!
Careful, attentive, patient, and precise one on one training from the knowledgeable staff here makes you confident that you are really on a safe path to starting strength even if you are a complete novice to weight training. The facility is spotless and airy and well equipped. Small classes mean lots of individual attention to ensure correct form and safety but still affords the opportunity to develop a little workout camaraderie. A great place to train.
Trainers are excellent! Magnetic personalities, great knowledge and very encouraging! Workouts are varied and accommodate every goal set.
The facility is great, but what makes this gym special is truly the coaches. They are very professional and exceptionally good at what they do. They will work with you at any age, strength level, and tailor the program to fit your needs. I am very pleased with the progress I have made, especially as someone brand new to strength training.
Excellent coaches, great facility. I was new to strength training when I started, and I really appreciate that the coaches are very meticulous about making sure you do the lifts correctly. They are also very encouraging. I highly recommend this gym!!
After over 15 years of lifting I now know what the difference is between a workout and training thanks to Starting Strength Dallas.Brent, and the coaches have such passion for their clients and make you work EVERY SINGLE REP. I never knew 135lb could be so heavy... that’s what happens when you have correct form I guess ha.I served 10 years in the Marine Corps and I have never had more dialed-in and structured training than what SS provides. I cannot stress it enough, if you are serious about your health and strength progress then you need to join, like yesterday.I look forward to seeing my growth here and adding value to the SS community.
Simply put, Starting Strength Dallas changed my life. Low back injuries made it hard to be the kind of mom I wanted to be (active, hands-on, physical, and adventurous). But, through Jayne and Brent’s patient, consistent, coaching; and Starting Strength’s powerful programming, I’ve gotten my life back. My back issues are resolved; and I am the mom I always wanted to be.I do not consider myself a weightlifting type. I was more of a cardio/yoga/10 pound hand weights type. Then, my first son was born, and my back issues got worse. I kept throwing my back out doing baby-related activities (lifting the stroller out of the car; carrying my baby). I was afraid to travel with my son for fear that I might throw my back out en route. I had always wanted to be an active mom, and these back issues were preventing me from being the mom I wanted to be.So, I went to physical therapy; got serious about back stretches and exercises...nothing seemed to make a difference. Until Starting Strength Dallas.I started the program skeptical — I had never really trained before; and I was concerned that training could make my injuries worse. Boy was I wrong. Within 2 months of joining Starting Strength, my back injury had resolved.Jayne was my first coach; and she was patient, understanding, consistent, and helpful. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing; but she made the experience anything but intimidating. Slowly and consistently, she helped me get stronger and stronger...until I was fully comfortable traveling alone with my son; and living the adventurous life I had dreamed of for myself.I got pregnant again, and vowed to stick with the program through the pregnancy so that I could be as strong as possible through the delivery and recovery process (pending my doctors approval). It was a high-risk pregnancy likely to end in c section; but I knew that staying strong would help with the recovery. Then, the pandemic hit...and threw a wrench in those plans. Though my doctor was comfortable with me continuing weight training, she wasn’t comfortable with me doing so at a gym. I worried I would lose all of my progress; and that my second pregnancy recovery would look like my first — injury-ridden and confidence-killing.Enter Brent and Jayne. They bent over backwards to come up with a program that enabled me to keep training. Brent would come to my house (specifically to my garage, which we kept open to the outside) to train with me once a week. And Jayne would coach me virtually by video twice per week. They showed up for me in a big way.Over the course of the pandemic and throughout my pregnancy, through the dead of Dallas summer, Brent showed up at my (steamy, buggy) garage every week. He adjusted exercises to accommodate my changing body; he wore a mask and kept distance the entire time. He was kind, dedicated, consistent, patient, flexible, encouraging...and he made getting stronger fun! With Brent and Jayne’s help, I trained until the day before my c section. The baby is perfect; and my recovery was about 80% easier than my recovery from my first c section — no back issues, no mobility problems. I was able to recover quickly and jump right into being the mom I wanted to be. I attribute all of that to Brent, Jayne, and the Starting Strength Dallas program.
Starting Strength is unlike any other gym. The coaches are highly qualified and passionate about getting you stronger. During the shutdown, they offered many creative solutions to continue at home. Since reopening, they are taking every precaution to keep us safe. u2028Though I am lifting more weight than ever before, I have yet to be injured, nor do I see that happening under their supervision. u2028In fact, my whole perspective on the human body and what it is capable of has changed. u2028The gym is beautifully designed which enhances the training experience. They foster a supportive community, who will cheer as you grind out your last rep. u2028It’s truly inspiring to see the progress everyone is making. It seems like every time I train at least one person is going for a new record!
I have had quite a few problems with back and knee pain due to old injuries. In an effort to improve my health, I had tried lifting some weights on my own in the past but always found it difficult to progress very far without exacerbating my injuries. Ultimately, after doing some research, I stumbled across this gym and decided to give it a go. Brent and Matt worked with me and after a couple of months my knee pain has drastically improved (it still flares up from time to time, but it is much much better). My back pain took a bit longer to resolve, but 4 months in and I feel better than I have in years. One of my biggest takeaways from this experience, is just how important it is to have a knowledgeable professional coaching you through the process. There is much more to picking things up and putting them down again than you would think. Again, the experience has been fantastic and I highly recommend Brent, Matt and the rest of the team at Starting Strength Dallas.
Been a member of the gym for about 3 weeks now and here is my experience:The gym is clean as can be at all times. Everything is sanitized after every lifter and a real effort is made to keep everything as clean as possible. The equipment is top notch, barbells are nice, squat racks are extremely effective and the platforms are solid. But here’s why you really need to go here, especially if you are starting off lifting weights. The attention to detail they provide is incredible.I mean every rep and after every set you are getting HONEST feedback. They know the cues to use to make you get the form right and care about your progress and goals.Brent, the gym owner, is a stand up guy, you can tell he’s probably run a business before and cares about his members.Big shout out to Jordan, one of the coaches. He gives great feedback and his knowledge of the mechanics of the lifts is impressive .Go for a month and the price will be some of the best dollars you’ve ever spent, trust me.
No silly BS! Brent and Jordan (and all the strength coaches here) just want to help people get stronger. The most efficient way to get stronger is the Starting Strength method. No matter what your age or training history, if youre interested in gaining strength, I highly recommend this gym. They have intro sessions almost every Saturday to explain their philosophy and go over the health benefits of barbell training. The Starting Strength Coaching certification is extremely rigorous. You wont find this level of expertise at a big box gym. When you compare the average fee for a personal trainer, the per session cost turns out to be quite reasonable at Starting Strength.
If you want to get strong, this is the place for you. They know what theyre doing, and the coaching is outstanding.
I have been a member at starting strength gym for 1 1/2 months. I am impressed with my overall strength and build. I have increased my bench press by 60 pounds, overhead press by 45 pounds, dead lifts by 90 pounds and squat by 115 pounds. The compound exercises you are taught can correlate to any fitness goal you have. Building for size, losing weight or just general strength. . The price is really reasonable for having a trainer. Still expensive, but the knowledge you get is invaluable.
The best gym hands down. So nice and clean. The staff is amazing and their approach to training is very straightforward and easy to follow especially if your new. I highly recommend this gym for the newbies. Your getting top notch training which will only propel your results. Its incredible to see how strong you can get with the correct training method. I was blown away n could feel more strength in my lower back which was always my pain point. Check them out guys!
My squat was stuck at 255 for 5 reps for 2 years and within 3 months of being coached I smashed that PR with 285 for 5 reps. My deadlift has never been stronger. My body as a whole has never felt stronger and I’m actually spending less time per week to achieve greater results. This gym is world class at what it does - coaching regular people to become as strong as they can so they can live a healthy, productive, and active life well into their 80’s and 90’s.
I have been training at SS Dallas since January and could not be happier with my experience. Brent and his team are just outstanding coaches—having a trained coach eyeball every work rep is fantastic. It keeps your form correct—and safe. And having a coach handle your programming maximizes your progress. Finally, the coaches and fellow gym members are a pleasure to work with. I look forward to every session. Wish I had joined earlier.
Excellent strength coaching and programing. Im on my way to being stronger than Ive ever been. Highly recommend!
Training at Starting Strength Dallas has dramatically improved my quality of life. I joined at 38, having never trained at all before, and with random lower back pain. In less than one year the program at SSD has me stronger than I have ever been, and eliminated any pain in my lower back.I have played golf for 25 years and nothing has improved my game like the program at SSD. The effects have been astonishing!20+ yards gained with Driver.14 yards gained with irons.Handicap has fallen for 7 to 1.no fatigue now during rounds.I cant tell you how much fun it is to be the longest player in my group. I couldnt have done it without training at Starting Strength Dallas. Thanks guys! The benefits of their program are too numerous to list them all. No matter you current physical fitness, their program WILL work for you too!
If you want to get strong, awaken your body and soul, invest in your physical longevity and above all feel great and accomplished, Starting Strength Dallas is not only the best place to do it but also the best return on your investment. Results:Starting weights: Squats: 85lbs, Bench Press: 65lbs, Press: 65lbs and Dead lift: 90lbsAfter an year: Squats: 225lbs, Bench Press:175lbs,Press: 135lbs and Dead lift: 245lbs👍💪🏻👍
I am an overweight woman cresting 40 and I knew I had to get serious about my health now or regret it. I see this gym as investment in my future. I am stronger than I have ever been and I love showing up for my coaching sessions. Ive tried yoga studios and cycling studios and after 6 months or so I would get bored or never feel like I was welcome in those spaces. Now I throw around 45 lb plates with dudes 10x as strong as me and never feel out of place or unwelcome. All of the coaches are amazing and knowledgable and really do want to see me succeed. Getting strong is the key, everything else will fall into place.
I’ve been a member for 7 months now and I’m still always happy to be at the gym. I’ve gained a lot of strength and get a lot of compliments from my friends. I’ve convinced a few of my friends to join and they are seeing big differences too.On your first day, your coach will show you the proper form for the lifts. You will start off with a weight that is light and work up to a weight that is challenging for you. Every coach has practiced explaining everything clearly to complete beginners so you will definitely be able to do it.I’ve talked with members in their twenties and with grandmothers and high schoolers and power lifters. You will see some members who are new and very weak and you will see some very strong guys who can squat over 400 pounds. They all talk about the progress they’ve made and how much they enjoy it.By the way, if you have an injury, or are inflexible, or have any problem with the lifts, the coaches know how to make adjustments. You should join us. I’ll cheer you on when you finish a challenging lift and set a personal record. The best news is that it doesn’t take long to see results. The fastest progress is made when you are just starting out.
For Christmas my dad paid for a membership to Starting Strength Dallas. I was tired of being flabby, overweight and weak anyways to put it bluntly. In my case I used to work mostly with my hands but over the years my lower back bothered me more and more so I switched to mostly desk work. I was told by doctors I have sciatica and to do stretches. I did stretches daily for several months but it had almost zero effect. I was convinced my back pain was irreversible so I dealt with it by avoiding things that made the pain worse. First couple weeks at Starting Strength I was concerned that bar bell lifting was going to cause me a lot of pain. I couldn’t have been more wrong! I’m happy to report that within 3 weeks of lifting at Starting Strength my constant 1 or 2 out of 10 pain level dropped to zero. ZERO AND HOLDING FOR THREE MONTHS! Do I occasionally get a sore muscle here and there? Yep but it doesn’t even register as a 1/10 in pain. And it’s a totally different pain vs the sciatica thing. I do still have twinges and weird numbness due to sciatica but NOT pain like before. I will likely have back pain again in my life but I will lift until the day I die because now I know it was a strength issue that only lifting could address. I feel better and look better thanks to the awesome coaching at Starting Strength Dallas.
Ive been training at Starting Strength Dallas since last May 2020. With Brents coaching, In less than 3 months I have doubled my squat from 115lbs to 230lbs and added 140lbs to my deadlift from 175lbs to 315lbs. I was initially scared of deadlifting because of a history of back injuries, but with the coaching I received and focus on technique I have remained injury free while getting much stronger. While my weight has been steady I have dropped almost 4 inches from my waistline. The coaches are friendly and the other members are friendly and outgoing, the classes I go to are always a good time with jokes, laughter, and conversation between sets.I cant recommend Starting Strength Dallas strongly enough for anyone looking to gain strength, improve conditioning, and spend time with some good folks.
I am new to Dallas, but have been familiar with the Starting Strength programming for several years. I previously attempted the program on my own, but I never had the opportunity to be taught the Starting Strength method by a knowledgeable coach.Having read the book several times, I thought I knew what I was doing, but there is so much I was still getting wrong. What a difference a coach makes! Even in my first session I could tell a difference and now that Ive had the opportunity to go through multiple sessions, Im truly shocked at how much more progress I could have made had I been coached from day one. Signing up for long term training was a no-brainer.The Starting Strength Dallas gym is clean, everyone is friendly, and every coach Ive interactive with has been awesome (and more importantly, consistent!)If youre serious about barbell training but have never been coached, or if youre on the fence about getting a coach, just get the intro package like I did and see what kind of difference it can make for you.I cannot recommend this gym enough if youre serious about getting strong under a barbell.
I started here a few weeks ago and am very happy with the program. The trainers are very knowledgable and made sure to cater training to my skill level. They are very patient and make sure you progress with safe proper form. They watch every single rep of your work sets for proper form and let you know how to adjust when it is not perfect, I really appreciate their attention to detail. I highly recommended checking it out for anyone who wants to increase their strength!
If you are totally new to fitness and strength OR are a seasoned lifter, you will benefit from joining Starting Strength Dallas. Just try one month, and you will see the benefit; youll be stronger, feel better, and understand more about strength training than you ever thought.Strength training can be scary to new lifters, but Brent with his compassionate and expert coaching will put you at ease as you literally watch yourself change for the better.
I am seven weeks in training at Starting Strength Dallas and I recommend it without reservation to anyone. The experience of having coaches giving instant feedback on each exercise is invaluable (Brent and Jordan are both great!). Combine that with the fact that results are quick and noticeable, this all means that I could not be happier with my decision to join this gym. You will get stronger and you will feel better - its inevitable. Once you understand the importance of strength for your health and improving your life in general, doing the Starting Strength program is a no-brainer.
Great facility and the best coaching you can find. Brent and his team are fantastic. You will learn or improve your technique to lift safe and confidentlyIt’s amazing how small corrections from a good coach can make a big difference in the way a movement feels and eliminate all guessing so you can focus on getting stronger!
Excellent instructors teaching the best system out there to folks who want to get strong.
I highly recommend this place to anyone who is interested in challenging themselves to become stronger. I did and it has been transformative. I have gone from 244lbs with a 41 inch waist and getting out of breath tying my shoes, to 220lbs with a 33in waist and able to deadlift 425lbs, bench press 300lbs, and squat 355lbs for working sets. All things I never thought I would be physically able to do. Working with Brent has been incredibly rewarding both physically and mentally. He has been attentive and responsive to my specific needs. As a coach he develops a plan to meet his trainees goals and if you follow his direction, he will get you there. Getting stronger is the best investment you can make in yourself. Starting Strength is the most effective way to do it. Go to Starting Strength Dallas and get stronger than you ever thought possible.
If you are serious about wanting to get strong, if you are less than satisfied with your previous results with personal trainers, weight machines, or training on your own, if you want expert instruction in barbell training, you cannot go wrong with Starting Strength Dallas. Brent Carter and his team of expert coaches will teach you the proper barbell lifting techniques and will provide critique and feedback for you every training session as you progress through the program. Developed by Mark Rippetoe, the Starting Strength methodology is designed to increase strength through four basic compound barbell lifts - the squat, deadlift, overhead press, and bench press. Trainees will typically perform three of the four barbell lifts per training session for 3 work sets of 5 reps. Squats and deadlifts are typically performed every training session and overhead press and bench press will alternate between sessions. As the trainee successfully completes a session, weight on the bar will be increased for the next training session. Methodically and steadily, trainees lift heavier and heavier weights, and strength correspondingly increases. You will get strong.I discovered Starting Strength a little over a year ago and made good progress training on my own. However, I joined the Starting Strength Dallas Gym as soon as I heard it was opening, and I have trained there since its opening in July 2019. Prior to the gyms opening, while training on my own, I encountered plateaus - certain weights that I just could not seem to get past. However, I have since rocketed past these plateaus due to the form critique and correction offered by the coaching staff. The improvements in my lifting technique have added much more capacity to my lifts. Weights that previously were a physical struggle are now part of my warm up lifts.Training at Starting Strength Dallas is an incredible value. Instead of paying an exorbitant amount for 30-45 minutes of a personal trainers one-on-one time, the Starting Strength Dallas trainee, for a lower price, receives training as part of a small group (typically 6-9). The coaches provide initial instruction (and additional instruction if/as necessary) for every trainee. The coaches also critique and provide feedback for trainees for their last warm up set and for every work set. As every trainee has his or her own pace (there is usually about 5 minutes rest between work sets), there is ample time for the coaching staff to rotate among trainees and dedicate 100% attention to each trainees lifts. This is a much more efficient use of time and resources for trainees and coaches.Aside from financial savings, the best value one gets training at Starting Strength Dallas is the increase in strength. Like I said, you will get strong. How many people do you know who have gone to gyms for years with no measurable progress to speak of? How much money have they spent doing that? What benefit is it to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars at gyms or with personal trainers and end up with no tangible, lasting results? That simply will not happen at Starting Strength Dallas.I would like to finish with a few words about the atmosphere and camaraderie at Starting Strength Dallas. Brent and his staff are truly first-rate. They are experienced, extremely knowledgeable, dedicated to helping their trainees, and caring. Trainees come from all sorts of ages and backgrounds and have all sorts of weight training abilities and experiences. No matter if you are an experienced lifter, or if you have never lifted a barbell before, you will be warmly welcomed by Brent and his staff and by your fellow gym mates. Everyone celebrates each others achievements in the journey of developing strength, and this also contributes to making Starting Strength Dallas such a wonderful place to train.
Ive been hitting the gym for a little over two years now and have pretty much stalled out, things were hurting all the time, etc. I found out about Starting Strength from their YouTube channel (which is one of the most helpful fitness channels on YouTube) and when I found out they had opened a gym in my area, I figured Id give it a try. After about two months, I added about an average of about 30 pounds each to my main lifts (bench press, overhead press, squat, and deadlift), and most importantly, all of the pain I was experiencing during and after workouts was gone.In addition, I found that I was way less tired after the day after workouts and had alot more time on my hands (I was going to the gym 6 days a week and was dead on my feet because of a lack of recovery) and found even better results for strength, health, and even body composition.Overall, if youre someone who is new to fitness or lifting, this is a great place to start so that you develop the right habits. If youre experienced, the coaches will find a way to improve your lifts. If youre skeptical, give a class a try and see how many things the coaches can help you improve on.
This is the best workout program I’ve ever done and the results are even better than expected. To be specific- I just took 3rd in class at the Redbull Override 6 hour extreme enduro and had little fatigue even afterwards. Before the program I would struggle to finish a 2 hour race without being completely worn out. Couldn’t be happier.
If you are reading this review, you will benefit from Starting Strength Dallas. Avoid the injury and frustration by learning to lift correctly from the beginning. The location is convenient, parking is easy, and the equipment top of the line. The signup experience was a a breeze. When you show up for your first class, your name is on a screen with your work sets and weight listed, and the offer a physical and digital logbook. They make it easy. Class sizes are capped, so youre assured to always get a lot of attention, cues and support. Ive been impressed across the board with the staff.I think its the best fitness value in town. For the cost of a fancy spin class, you get 90 minutes of quality, technically correct coaching on the key lifts, 3 times a week.3 years ago I broke my leg. Tibia, Fibula, ACL, MCL, Meniscus. 3 surgeries and 4 weeks of bedrest resulted in a lot of muscle loss. Outside of the doc prescribed PT, this is my first attempt to rebuild strength. I would have laughed if you told me Id be lifting the weight I am now post injury. My surgeon told me the best thing I could do to rehab and prevent re-injury was resistance training, specifically squats and deadlifts. 3 years later Im finally taking his advice. I explained how Starting Strength works, and he is enthusiastic.Do yourself a favor and check this place out. They have an open house every Saturday from 10 to 12.Many thanks to Brent, Jayne, Michael, Will, Jordan and the rest of the SSD team.
The best gym in the world!
