I had VABB for 3+ years, with two people working from home full time. It was a great service for us, as we did not have access to traditional wired broadband. VABB is head and shoulders above satellite and hotspots, both in terms of price and speeds. I would pretty consistently get speeds around 20/12mbp which was plenty for two people to be working (including video calls) or streaming on multiple devices (maybe not always at HD, but beggers cant be choosers).Customer service team was great. I never had a poor experience with them. If there was ever high call volume and I left a voicemail, they always returned my call. They are a relatively small company, so you can expect to speak with the same service techs on a regulars basis, which is nice. Every tech that was sent to my house was also very friendly and helpful. Even when I called to cancel, they did not give me the hard sell to stay, just scheduled a time to take my equipment and thanked me for being a customer. Two reasons for the four stars instead of 5 (and they are semi-related to just being a small business with limited staff - especially during covid):1) VABB customer service only works during business hours, where they are only staffed M-F 8-5pm. If there is some service interruption outside of these hours, you are out of luck until the window re-opens. If you did need a house call, it can take multiple days to schedule one.2) Service can be intermittent. Over the years there were a couple of occasions where I would lose service late Friday afternoon and not have it back until midday Monday. During business hours during the week if something went wrong, it was typically fixed within a short time after calling them, but these happened more frequently than I would have liked and occasionally made working difficult (more often it made being lazy and watching Netflix at night hard until I could call to have fixed in the morning)All that being said, I still think that it is a great and valuable service and feel lucky to have had them as an option instead of sat or 4G. I have only left VABB after fiber became available at my home.I think a lot of the bad reviews are coming from people who dont understand the technology or the niche that this service fills. If you are used to any wired service and expect similar levels of speed and reliability, you are going to be disappointed. If your only other options are some type satellite provider or wireless hotspot, VABB is much better and would highly recommend. It is also important to know that being a WISP, this service is reliant on line of sight. That means things like trees, structures, being in a low lying area can all have negative effects and mean service at your home is not available.

We had trouble when we first got it (about a year ago?) when it would go down for sometimes an hour or more ~ once a week, and for 5 minutes or so almost every day, but the reliability has seemed much better in past 6 months or so. I can really remember any outages lately. The speed is good and no noticable latency. Far superior quality to satellite. It is pricey, and I dont remember ever being able to actually contact support. Its our best option at this point tho! (Country living!)

I wanted to share my positive experience I had recently with the folks at Virginia Broadband. We have had VABB for 3 years. First we had Hughes Net then Verizon DSL and then VABB. The service and responsiveness of the staff is by far the best with VABB. Within the past few months our service had become less responsive and would periodically drop completely during the day. I probably noticed it more because I now telework 100% of the time Within the last few months all I could hear was my college student daughter who is mostly schooling online yelling at me as if it were my fault. Finally, I called and had a service technician out to our house. He quickly diagnosed the issue and had us running better than ever. Just this afternoon I had a helpful exchange with William regarding a new router. William set me up with a new router and provided technical advice. I installed the VABB router this evening, service is great and the conversation we had after we finished with VABB business was pleasant and enjoyable. Thanks you William for everything. And thank you to the technician who came out last week. While it isnt the speed of Xfinity it is by far the best we have had in this rural area, and 1000% better than our previous two providers. I highly recommend VABB for rural internet needs.

Providing Internet in remote locations throughout Virginia, for example, my cabin in Madison, VA is complicated. Hills, valleys, and weather are constant factors; ultimately, other providers do not service my area and other similar areas because it simply is very hard. I have had service for almost 10 years. Recently they have really made some significant enhancements to their services which I really appreciate. I for one appreciate their efforts to keep service in areas of Virginia, and I hope VABB is not discouraged by other reviewers lack of appreciation of just how hard it is to run a service like this.

When I originally moved out to the area (Lignum Va) I passed VABB by due to the low rating here, but after having issues with our cellular provider losing service we gave them a shot.Initial help was great. I spoke with a sales guy and he was able to answer all of my questions. He attempted to get me set up the same day as I already had a dish from the previous homeowners, but wasnt able to get setup. Had a tech come out the following week and we were up and running. The first few days there were some issues with dropping signal even though we are like a mile from their nearest tower. I called and talked to tech support and we tried various fixes over a couple of days but still got dropped signal. I was told he would monitor our signal/line since it was hard to catch when it was at its worst. My usual experience with other companies is that this means stop bothering us, but I was delightfully surprised when the techs showed up to the house later that afternoon saying that they saw some issues with the logs and were there to replace the equipment. An hour or so later and I was all set. Havent had a single issue since, and going on 3 weeks now. Speeds have been great and as advertised. No issues with work from home secure VPN connections.I just really wanted to come on here and give them a thumbs up for getting me back on my internet feet as quickly as possible. Thanks guys!

Sad this is the only good speed option for most people in the area. They will treat you by giving you, 1/4th speeds you pay for, ignore 95% of your phone calls and when you finally reach someone they will contact the Techs and call you back, only to never hear from anyone again. Then you will outsmart them, by asking for there direct extension line so you can call them back, but they will just make up a number. Its not even a Pandemic thing this has been ongoing all year. Horrible Quality.

Ive had my frustrations with the internet where I live in Aroda, VA, but when I call, Virginia Broadband has been there to try and help me resolve my concerns. I recently had to schedule a reinstall of our antenna since we were supposed to have a new roof put on. I was concerned because I work from home and rely heavily on the internet and my grandson needs internet for his virtual school meetings as well. Will listened to my situation and went out of his way to schedule and reschedule my reinstall when weather kept changing the schedule for the new roof. Yes, my internet isnt as fast as Fios and I sometimes have to leave a message when I call VABB, but I still appreciate the fact that they work hard to meet the need of those of us who are lucky enough to live somewhat off the beaten track.

Truly poor quality service. Download speeds consistently less than 1 mbps which means it plain does not work at all even for just email. Go with satellite. Slightly more expensive but at least it works. Was paying for nothing with VABB.

The calls always got to a voice mail system a they NEVER call us back. There is no customer support during weekends, so if your internet fails on Friday night, you’re stuck at least till Monday when the office is open again. But it doesn’t mean someone will call you back. Terrible customer service. Absolutely frustrating. I’m seriously considering discontinuing my contract with them.

Usually the service is fine, but sometimes it goes out for weeks at a time, and we can never get a response as to when the service will be fixed. Decent internet for the cost, especially since we live in the middle of nowhere.

My Aunt moved in next door to us, where the VA BB service was already working from our neighbor that moved away. I asked VA BB to wave the $75.00 hook up fee and the sales manager agreed to, The sales manager called and left message with these details. I called later and he denied he EVER said he would wave the fee. I insisted that he said so, he continued to deny it. I then played the recording for him and got the run around, so what, I dont care thing from him. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY......

Engineering and field support are lacking. Had issue with VABB delivering a decent signal, but I was asked if there was construction between my home & the VABB antennae....why? Because somebody with a metal roof could deflect my signal. OK, then two field techs show up to help restore my broadband signal to better than dial up.....they were polite, courteous and knowledgeable. But to no avail, they could not accurately diagnose or resolve their problem. They changed the horn on the dish and tried repositioning the dish to get a better signal....nope.... no good. The techs referred my problem to their so called engineers.... estimated time to restore adequate service..... 2 weeks! OK, so I was toldI would have degraded service, but my problem would be resolved in 2 weeks. The field techs left and within an hour......no internet. Called 4 times to have ANYONE come out.... no shows. I asked for return phone calls at before close of business.....no return phone calls. After repeated phone calls to VABB that went unheeded, I cancelled service. That was late October, now they are billing me after I cancelled service. My experience with VABB was not satisfactory. Poor utility delivery, then no utility delivery. Poor follow thru on customer service and repair. I believe in being a customer of small businesses, but not if they are lacking in product delivery & customer service. VABB has failed to deliver a serviceI was paying a premium price for.

Was interesting in getting broadband service from VABB. Called for tech to come out and do a survey. After reading the horrible reviews and researching the number of times the service is down I called and left a message to cancel the appointment. They tried to charge me 50 dollar fee for not answering their phone.

Live less than a half mile from their signal tower, and was told I couldn’t get service because of the trees. No trees on my lot and a thin strip between me and the tower that I can walk across the street and see clearly. Wanted to charge a fee to come out and do a site test. Customer service is awful, rarely answer the phone, won’t return emails without repeated attempts to get in touch with someone. Horrible company

At times in the past I had been disappointed with VABB. Let’s face it, it’s not wired internet. But for what it is— the best alternative in many rural areas, it’s pretty darn good. Now my rating has increased because their customer service has kicked in again. William is super professional and helpful. Goes out of his way to resolve issues. Rural internet with a small town touch. Way better than relying on hot spots. Vey affordable too.
