Follow up review during March 2021:Had a 15 day heart monitor test worn and returned to the vendor that supplies these monitors. Test results were faxed to cardiology apparently at Jesse Brown on 2-26-2021 but someone has yet to explain what I think are very important test results to me. Going on three weeks but continue to get the run around from all departments. Primary care, fail. Mental health, fail. Cardiology, fail. All departments blaming the response on each other. VA Healthcare, Fail again and again.Initial review during January 2021:I have had a great experience coming here especially since driving to North Chicago VA was my only option prior to being able to come here. The ONE thing that has really rubbed me the wrong way is that I recently had some blood work ups taken before my initial appointment with a new primary care provider. I was told by the nurse while giving blood that I should also provide a urine sample as this is normal before a primary care appointment. What I wasn’t told or asked for was my consent in having that urine sample tested for drugs. I will still continue to come here but this is a huge red flag for me and now I have to ask 20 questions whenever I’m here because I no longer trust the medical service that is being provided.

I am very happy with the care I am receiving at the Crown Point VA. I was assigned a womens doctor the first day I arrived and got in with a doctor within a week. My doctor was very helpful and thorough with my medical history. The staff is helpful with guiding you where you need to go. I also received a welcome folder with all of the VA healthcare information. Thank you to all of the Doctors, nurses, and staff for caring our wellbeing.

I only use them for pharmacy services and optician. Otherwise its a civilian doctor. I refuse to go to Chicago for ANY reason, that place is a circus and my dad cant walk. Its just too much for a 15 minute appointment that was doing nothing for him anyway. My dad moved here from St. Louis. He said the VA in St. Louis is the BEST hes ever seen. They have swimming pools, bowling alley, gym, you name it there!

Hi I live in Kankakee Illinois oh, its a two-hour drive to Crown Point and I think its worth every bit of it! I have had numerous positive experiences and no real negative experiences on a scale of 1 to 5 I consider Adam Benjamin Jr VA Outpatient Clinic to be one of the best Ive ever used in the system I would say on scale of 1 to 5 that Crown Point is around a seven and a half! Theyre quick theyre clean their effective they do social distancing they require mask and all of these things make me feel safer. The people there are easy to get along with theyre easy to understand and if you ask them something and require them to do something in particular for you they are very willing to help you! Im a person in my late 60s and find that theyre very very beneficial, for me and my health! Thanks

Ive been assigned to this clinic for 26 years. Overall, very reliable and respectful service to Vets, but theres always that few that sometimes makes it unpleasant. I urge other Vets to get over those few, Ive seen some of them eventually weeded out. The Lab and the Pharmacy are fantastic. You may have to wait, but they are really good, considering the volume of patients they have. Ive had the same General Medicine Doctor for 20 years at ABJVA. Shes Great. My Doctor in Mental Hygiene is very good also, even though Ive had her but for a short while. X-Ray techs rank out highly to me, also. I would go Five Star for the entire Facility, but certain ones there stop me from doing that. I ignore them and let the true caregivers/professionals do their jobs.

I had to file a Congressional just to get them to set up an appointment, they are without a doubt the worst medical center I have ever dealt with and it is a shame that they care for veterans.

Better than any private medical facilities. Wait time is a third the time of private, the cost is 1/20th that of private and you have a primary that will keep in touch with you daily if you need to talk to him through a email system that they will answer within 24 hrs by rule. The medical service and the quality of service is far and above the private sector because their income is not dependent on how many people they can see and how many procedures and surgeries they can get you to go through whether you need it or not.

You call Crown point, the machine only gives you 5 departments. So you have to hold to speak to an operator, and then you get transferred to Chicago. You wait on the phone for 5 minutes, then some person answers and probably is going to tell you that this is Chicago and you called the wrong number, then they transfer you and then the call gets dropped and its been 10 minutes.

Although I am a veteran as well, I’m writing concerning the treatment of my Father, John Adams. He’s with Jesus now but, he spoke well of the VA (crown point). He was particularly impressed with his Dr. at the time... I believe her name was Dr Carol. If she is still around, I would love to contact her. I accompanied my Dad on many trips to CPVA. Hopefully the staff etc was good to him as well. To all of you... to Chicago Va, univ of Chicago hospital, etc. I thank you all for helping him live longer than originally stated. From six months to ten years. Ten years of treatments etc, but also ten years of seeing his daughter’s graduations..his Grand Children grow...drive a boat on the Gulf of Mexico... praise and thanks to God.

I know it’s hard for people but there is no hospital here in northwest Indiana. Adam Benjamin is a clinic folks not an er or hospital. There won’t be all the docs out here. You have to go to the actual hospital for surgeries ect. Also please don’t complain about folks who don’t have to start work till 8 am when the CLINIC opens. One complained because they didn’t show up till one half hour before they start to work. Really!

Specialty clinics are good. Having an E.R. there would be great. The most frustrating thing is you have to go through Jesse Brown to talk to anyone at ABJ except the pharmacy. Would be nice to at least have a roster of personal. I have no idea who is in charge there.

They take care of vets. However, faxes with important test results cant get through.Fax appears to normally be down.I had a breast biopsy done and no one could get the results to them at all. When I had a mammogram (different day) I had to interfere to get the faxed results in as the place I had the mammogram tried several times to fax to them to no avail. You can not call and talk to a Dr. Even when you may have cancer. The calling center will shift you around for at least 30 minutes before you get a person that sounds just like they dont want to help you and they will not help. You will even get shifted to a phone that will never be answered.Even though my case is cancer related I was told I had to wait for over 14 days before a call center person could request results. Terrible.Tthe call center and their rules absolutely are the worst. Most of the call center people will treat you like you are an enemy and they need to stop you from doing anything at all.

Waiting for a week to hear about a referral to the ENT. Decided to call them a week later. They have no answering machine and never answer the phone. Finally got a hold of some one who couldnt care less about talking to patients. Told her I had a referral and was trying to setup a meeting to get looked at. She said I need a referral and hung up. I talked to my primary care doctor which confirmed my referral. Never heard anything from either side again. Decided to go private care and got in a week later with a specialist. The VA should just shutdown and reimburse private care bills.

Biggest complaint I have is that they send everything up to Chicago. And there is no other option, what makes them think anybody going to a clinic in Indiana wants to travel to Chicago and deal with all that traffic and other bs. Needs to give an option to travel to Indy.

I was given a female doctor who due to my age wouldnt help me get pain management and refused to be helpful or even kind. I asked for another doctor and was switched over to another female doctor who before treating me demanded i tell her why i wanted to switch providers . I told her that was private and I did not want to tell her why. She was angered and stated I am not gonna give you pain medicine before I was even evaluated by her.It was apparent the 2 doctors were friends . I feel the 2 doctors were prejudice against me because I fought in an Islamic country and these women refused to treat my combat wounds due to their personal beliefs on the war in the middle East. You cannot refuse treatment before an initial exam. I hope these providers are exposed for their beliefs taking over their judgement . I was injured in a ied attack as well as injuries sustained during airborne operations. I am 100 % disabled and was mocked and treated like I was drug seeking . It was apparent that the first doctor had been talking negative about me to the other and the second doctor wouldnt even touch me before demanding I explain why I reported her friend. Unprofessional.

My primary care doctor fell asleep in her office while I was in the exam room waiting to see her. The nurse knocked on her door several times in the course of an hour and a half, and there was NO response. She is evidently a very heavy sleeper. I finally got sick of waiting and put in a complaint to patient advocate requesting a different doctor. The head nurse, who is in charge of the doctors for some stupid reason, tried to get me to go back in for my appointment with that doctor, but I already waited long enough with my one year old child. Women have only one choice for a primary care doctor at ABJ so after about six months I was finally assigned another doctor at the Jesse Brown Hospital in Chicago. The new doctor could not speak or understand English and it caused serious issues in my care, so I am now into my seventh month of waiting and nagging and waiting and nagging for another doctor. Would I recommend ABJ or JB? Hell no. Some of the doctors are awesome, but the entire system is messed up. There is no reason for me to still be without a primary care doctor.

Dont waste your time. Women are segregated to one provider because only one person is able to perform any type of exam on them?! So ALL women vets have to see ONE provider. If you are having problems that arent related to womens health, it evidentally does not matter. They REFUSE to allow you to see another provider even if you are not comfortable with the one you have been mandated. Patient advocacy is a joke. They arent advocating for the patient, they are running back to the doctor to tell them exactly what youve complained about opening the door for retaliation and potentially worse problems. Instead of solving the problem they move you to an entirely different clinic in a different state. If you are reading this, ABORT MISSION. Pay for the tricare or whatever other insurance and get seen by an actual civilian doctor. It will cost you money but at least you wont be wasting your time and energy getting no where with your healthcare. I have witnessed countless rude employees who feel entitled over wounded vets. One of which works in sleep study and was screaming across the waiting area to a hearing deficiant patient instead of going to him and relaying the message. There is no need to yell at someone across a waiting area as a healthcare professional. What a disgrace of a healthcare facility this is. Dont get me wrong, there are serveral wonderful employees here but they are few and far between. As sad as it is, many veterans have no other choice for their healthcare and you better believe these employees know it and act as such. Mental health makes you even more mental. I walked out of my last appointment crying and none of the staff, including the doctor, ever even asked if I was ok. They just let me leave, knowing my problems and current situation. This is by far the worst health care facility I have ever experienced.Update: They hired a new womens health doctor and she seems to care considerably more about her patients and being timely.

They cant do much for you here. The PACT doctor is here but you see them once a year. They do labs, have a pharmacy and provide shuttle service to Jesse Brown where most of us have to go to see Speciality Clinic Staff. Its ok I guess, the PACT has a lot of patients but I do reach them via MyHealthVet. They refill prescriptions etc easily online, but if you have an issue you better have a family doctor outside the VA you can rely on. Outpatient clinics cant do much for you so unless you want to go downtown Chicago to see a doctor and that can take awhile to get in. This existence of this clinic makes me ineligible for the VetsChoice program even though most of the care is at Jesse Brown? I did contact my CongressWoman about this and they said this was something they werent aware of.
