My extended family is meeting here for July 4th and A/C stopped working! Another A/C company looked at the unit and diagnosed it as a problem that requires replacing the entire outside unit for about $2500 to $3500. Houks gentleman shows up and in about 15 minutes fixes a loose screw and for good measure cleans up condenser lines before leaving! This amazing servicing beyond expectations. Thank you Houk!!
I had 2 different locations come out to my house to check why I was getting mold in 2 closet ceilings.1st one said that it was condensation from the hot attic and the cool house. No mold beyond ceiling or in attack. Basically just on the ceiling drywall. They stabbed about 70 little holes all over ceiling and walls trying to see if there was moisture in the walls. Then they said they’re remove the ceiling and clean out all the mold ( which apparently isn’t actually there) put new dry way back up for $7,000.I then called the other location to see what there thoughts were. I inquired about putting vents in these closets to give them air circulation. They came out to give me an estimate, I paid around $80 and they were going to email it to me.I never heard from them again!!I used because a neighbor who had the same mold issues, used them. I believe also because our builder uses this company. There are so many 5 star places on google. Our builder goes cheapest route on everything. Even for homes starting $1 million +They go cheap!I would NOT RECOMMEND!!!Do yourself a favor and looks elsewhere.
Have had to have them out twice to do balancing and it still is not working properly. Unfortunate as I have also found the customer service to be less than acceptable. We were stuck with them as the Builder used them for installation. Can not recommend them.
Houk installed my HVAC system through the builder that built my home 15 years ago. I had trouble with balancing which they came out and took care of under the warranty, then I added another Air Return to the master as it was a long way from the closest return and they did that work. But my bill was always high for a 2500 Sq Ft. 1 story home with only 2 people and 1 of them out of town almost half the month every month, I had checkups done and complained about the high bill but was told I must run it hard or something. (I did not) After 10 years the unit started tripping the breaker. I called them and they said I needed a new A/C. In the mean time my neighbor who has a 3300 Sq Ft home with 3 kids and 2 adults always home had the same bill as me and sometimes lower, told me about the company they use so I called them and they came out and said I only needed a new breaker which I could fix for about $6.00 and my a/c could use a charge which they did and the whole appointment was $225. A far cry from the $7000 I was told by Houk I needed.A year and a half later my unit stopped and I needed a new board. So while they (the new A/C company were there I ask them to check my duct work and maybe put mastic on them and pull the ducts straighter instead of the swag they had in them. That is when they discovered one of the ducts was loose and blowing cold air in the attic. Then they discovered 2 of my big returns in the attic had never been tightened down and was just sitting on the return and was sucking in hot air. So for almost 12 years it had been this way. They tightened everything down and sealed it with mastic and the difference has been incredible. I used to run my A/C at night on 72-73. Now I run it on 76-77. My bill has dropped also. I have spent $1000s of dollars too much on my bill over those years because of shoddy work by Houk when they installed my unit. I can not believe the difference it has made to my house since it was fixed properly. I had the only home back then in my neighborhood back then that had radiant barrier and R-38 insulation because I wanted to be energy efficient and my unit was working against me the whole time thanks to Houk.
My first experience with Houk was a few years ago. I had some AC trouble where the unit wasnt cooling below 85 degrees. 3 other AC companies had already been out and said the unit was fine, just old and needed replacement.Calling Houk was a long shot, but I thought it was worth one more try since the other guys didnt seem to be very thorough. Houk came out the next day to take a look. The technician was in my attic for a grand total of 5 min when he came down and told me the unit was fixed. I was a little skeptical for sure, but sure enough cold air began to flow and the house began to cool right away.Turns out that some insulation inside the unit had come loose and had fallen over the main vent which restricted the airflow. It took someone spending an extra few minutes to be thorough and that saved me thousands of dollars for an unnecessary replacement! My 2nd experience was just today. I had a blower motor go out on me. I called Houk at 9:30a and they were at my house by 11:30a. Not only that, but they are going to be back out today to install the new motor! Great service! Would recommend them again.
Great company full of great people who truly care about the customers satisfaction and peace of mind.
My AC recently went out and I called them to come out and take a look to see what needed to be repaired. I called on Monday morning and was told they would have someone there Tuesday afternoon. I called back that afternoon to confirm it and let them know that the out side unit is on the roof of the building. They said this shouldnt be an issue but that they would be unable to be in Tuesday afternoon. They were now supposed to have been there at 9:00 Wednesday morning. After an hour I called and talked to a guy who said they are unable to come out. I was informed that their residential service guys cant go up on roofs and that their commercial guys cant do residential. The person on the phone asked me if anyone had called to inform me of this and I said no and that I was going with someone else.
There were chosen by the contractor to install and maintain the commercial AC units.Several times they were called and each time the problem or problems were not fixed. We would contact them to come out and fix the problem(s), and they would not show up.When I called them, they did not recall the appointment that THEY MADE WITH US, and when I asked them to come out again to address the problem(s), they did not show up.I asked several people who have dealt with HOUK, and they all say to stay away from them!I would ask all of you to do the same!!!!
We have the Houk maintenance program where they come out twice a year. We had our summer maintenance scheduled for May 6 but due to the heavy rains they rescheduled us to June 24. At the time I was very frustrated and commented that it didnt make sense pushing our summer preventative maintenance so far back. The whole point of the service is to tune the system up BEFORE the summer starts. Unfortunately on June 7th, in 98 degree weather, our unit started making funny noises and stopped working throughout the night. We will always wonder if this could have been caught if they could have made their original May 6 target date.We called the next morning and sat on hold for half an hour, got picked up, then back on hold and into the queue for another 10 minutes. When they finally answered I was told we could have a repairman out sometime after 1pm that day and we would get a call a half hour before he came out. I asked if we could get a call an hour prior to give us time to get home, but I was told this would cost extra. So we made sure to be home shortly after 1pm. At 4:30pm a tech finally showed up with no warning call. 15 minutes later he determined our compressor had stopped working and they would need to order the parts and we might see them that week. We were charged $89 for a diagnostic call. The next day we called around looking for a new compressor to get a feel for pricing (the tech had written the specs on the invoice). We found the model we needed at Grainger for $100, available to pick up that day. We called Houk throughout the afternoon to get an update on the part and they still hadnt order the part by 4pm. The fact that temperatures are in the mid-to-high 90s and they hadnt had enough concern to order our part is unbelievable, and... inhumane. They did give us a quote on the parts though, the compressor would be $580 and the fan (which did not need replacing) would be $300. We asked if they could come anywhere near the $100 price we received from Grainger, but they said no. So before the repairman even comes out were sitting at $880. Im assuming they have a minimum charge for the repairmans time, so were looking at somewhere near $1000 for what we can get for $100 and do the work ourselves. The compressor requires 4 bolts and connecting 3 wires - not rocket science. We will look after this repair ourselves and not give Houk unnecessary money and we will not abide by their lazy schedule of whenever they decide to place our order and send a repairman back out while the temperatures are soaring.Sadly we are stuck in a 2 year maintenance contract with them. We would love to just walk from the agreement, but we dont want to line their pockets with our hard earned money. Their customer service, their scheduling and their lack of compassion are horrible.
Besides being 2 hours late. The techician, Matt, was a HVAC ninja !!! Fixed the heating problem with a quickness.
