I have been to other YMCA locations and this location has the best instructors anywhere. I go every single day and take several classes, I also use machines and walk the track. My husband is a member as is my daughter, her entire family, and my son. My grandchildren have taken swim lessons at the y. During the summer months it is louder due to the kid population but I believe the staff, for the most part, keeps them under control. They have an adequate daycare facility which was recently remodeled. Although I didnt notice an increase of activities available. They could use additional staff so the climbing area could be utilized more often. The pool is great but again they could use additional staff so that the water slide and water tree are open longer. I also noticed that each lifeguard seems to have a different set of rules for the water slide, they need to be more consistent so both children and adults know the rules. The splash pad is great, although it seems to cater more to younger children. My grandchildren have taken classes with me and have utilized kidstuff, the pool and the splash pad, they enjoy all areas. The Y also encourages members to volunteer for great programs like feed my starving children which we participated in.

Really enjoyed our visit to this YMCA! It was a large establishment with an outdoor playground and indoor pool. The locker rooms were large and clean. Our family spent all of our time in the outdoor, castle-themed, splash pad and picnic area. It is all fenced in and also has two larger water slides ideal for your little ones.

I have been a member at a few other exercise/fitness establishments and have benefited from all of them, however, I feel that the Ema B Howe YMCA has been our best due to the diversity of exercise options as well as the culture of the staff. The place as a whole is great. They have a great pool area with a rain tree and waterside. Climbing wall is fun too. There is a few front desk employees who are rude when trying to get people to leave who are still changing. They can still remain professional when trying to get people to leave. I watched this one employee just be out right disrespectful to a family who was in the family locker room. I really hope they reported him to management.

Posted this review to YMCA - Coon Rapids as well.Evelyn was a very helpful and made me feel extremely welcomed at this location. I was pretty nervous to ask for an explanation of where everything was when I first arrived but Evelyn was so welcoming! I didnt feel like a burden to ask her for help at all. This would be 4/5 only because of the free lockers. It is unfortunate that they get stuck in a locked position and people need to ask the front desk to help unlock it. The staff person who helped me with my locker was kind however I wish I didnt have to ask anyone. Than again, complaining about free things is pretty tacky.

Staff have always been friendly and helpful when we need assistance. Equipment is in good working order. Have always had enough machines to get my workout in without waiting. However, there are often a lot of young kids running around unsupervised and playing on the equipment - this is not only annoying but dangerous. If parents want their kids to work out with them they should supervise them. Otherwise leave them at home or have them go to the child care area.

Ive been to quite a few Ys in the metro and this one ranks near the top. Plenty of space, the weight room especially, and many machines and a great track. It has a climbing wall and a splash pad. Love this gym. Its great especially if you have a family. My kids love the play area. It has tunnels, slides, places to jump, etc and a separate area for coloring and quiet play. They have a lap pool for adults and older kids/teens and a kids pool with a mushroom fountain and a water slide. Theres a family locker room with separate showers/toilets/changing areas for mixed genders. In addition they have girls/women, boys/men, adult women only and adult men only locker rooms. The workout area has a good selection of machines and free weights. There are lots of classes from cycling to Zumba to yoga. They offer personal training and swim lessons (although Ive never tried either). Theres a running track and a large gym for basket ball. They offer rock climbing twice per month thats open to all members or you can reserve private sessions. Theres are also rooms for birthday parties and meetings.

This place has really gone to the dumps! I have been a member for almost 20 years. There are certain rules set forth to make this place enjoyable for everyone. However, there are certain people whom believe they don’t need to follow these rules. Staff should not have to babysit members. I am guessing most of these people get free memberships. Guess it’s time to go to Lifetime so I can enjoy my workouts again. Extra couple dollars is worth it!!!

Coon Rapids has yet to build a community center and until that happens this YMCA is the only available outlet for my kids through the winter months to play hoops, swim, workout, rock climb, pickle ball, ect.. and accompanied with a two hour child care service while I do yoga, or hit up the hot tub/sauna. This was an easy membership to purchase for me, and despite the name there really isnt any Christian overtones. I really like this diverse and friendly place👍

Daycare is much improved now that they expanded it. I love dropping my kids off for 2 hours of daycare, included in my membership, while I work out. The slide is never open. We wait to bring our kids swimming during the times they post the slide will be open and during open swim and we get there and the slide is never on. They always have an excuse. Either not enough people working or swim lessons went longer than expected. Open swim is rarely open swim during the hours they post. We asked the lifeguard the last time we were there when the slide would be on(the hours posted were 1 to 3) it was 145 and was still not on. They kept telling us in 15 minutes. When they finally turned it on it was on for 15 minutes and they turned it off. They had more than enough staff that day. Today I saw at least 5 lifeguards on duty. One was assigned to the pool. Once again we were told the slide wont be on because they dont have enough staff. Unbelievable! We would understand if it was once in awhile, but it has been an issue every time we are there. Not worth our money. We will be cancelling our membership. Lifetime here we come!!

I feel like this Y is a great location but they always have a lot of kids around, and no one seems to monitor them. These are teenagers; they walk around on the workout/machine area and tie up machines when they arent using them. I come to do my thing and leave, its frustrating to have to deal with people in the way who arent there for the same reason.I love that they have a track at this Y, but same as above, kids and teenagers are allowed to be up there with no one who seems to care that theyre getting in peoples way. That said, there are also many adults that will walk the width of the track so they can chat, while someone is trying to run laps. Its inconsiderate and no one cares to correct the action. This location also doesnt seem to care of you have proper swim wear in the pool area. Ive seen people come in with jean shorts, full length yoga type pants, amongst other things.

We had a birthday party at this location on 6/25/2017 and the male lifeguard... I think his name is Tyler told me if any of our kids need assistance in the pool he wont be the one going in after them. He was very short and unpleasant towards the children swimming. At one point we watched him snatch swimming dunbells out of some kids hands. #RUDE!Also, none of the lifeguards were even wearing swimming suits. If somebody ever needs their help they arent even prepared to jump in after them. Sad examples of life guards if you ask me.2 thumbs down for the aquatics manager and the front desk staff whom hand you a business card and do nothing about it. They dont even offer to let their superior know about your issue..... 👀👀👎👎👎

This YMCA has a outdoor splash pad and little waterpark for the kids during the summer time! Good place to have the kids run around and burn off some energy. Open gym times are good for rainy days. I love the daycare here they have one side for the babies and little times and then another side with a indoor gym for the bigger kids to run and play. I have been a member for a few years now. I and my family used to love this YMCA and what they had to offer. As time went on, we noticed that the staff seemed to be less than caring when it came to the locker rooms being dirty and unkept. More recently, my children have had their personal items stolen with what seemed to be not a care in the world from the staff. The lockers that are right by the check in desks, are easily accessible to ANYBODY!!! All they have to do is ask someone at the desk if they can get into a locker, and they open it no problem no questions asked. So, if my kids place their items in this locker, and anyone can ask to have this locker opened and its opened, how is this my childrens fault or responsibility? Cameras were not looked at, nobody said anything and nobody cared. In the meantime, there were at least 3 other people complaining of items being stolen, from lockers locked with a personal lock in the locker room. This absolutely makes me want to cancel my membership in a second. Nobody cares about the cleanliness and order of the locker rooms, or anyones personal items in locked lockers. Thats a damn shame. I went from raving about this location, to now making sure i tell everyone about the negative experiences we, and countless other people have had. Sorry, not sorry.

No complaints about the fitness center and track. This place NEEDS dividers in their showers. This place usually smells foul but they must have pinpointed the source and took care of it. If you like a quiet relaxing sauna, dont bother weekday evenings. A lot of drama in that sauna lololol And if you plan on working out while your kids swim forget about it. Ive never seen such inattentive and distracted lifeguards anywhere else in my life. One day I saw someone lifeguarding in boots and blue jeans. Its not uncommon to see a lifeguard staring at their phone or a laptop. When I go to the elk River Y all the lifeguards are in swim wear and NEVER take their eyes off the water. Unless management does something, its only a matter of time before something horrible happens.
