I am very pleased with Carlson Toyota and particularly Preston Buechler on the recent sale of our Highlander Hybrid. We shopped at several Twin Cities dealerships and Carlson excelled at getting us what we wanted at the price we needed.The entire process was organized, efficient and very stress free. The entire staff valued our business and communicated effectively. Preston was very thorough and detailed about teaching us all the tech features of the vehicle, which can be a little overwhelming. I’m honestly disappointed in the professionalism. I came in to look at a used 2011 mustang gt. Obviously, I fell in love with the car and I wanted to buy it. I was only offered 3500 trade in value for my bmw that I ended up selling for 7000. I also made an attempt to negotiate prices since they had it listed at 18k when the bank only values it at 13k, but they absolutely refused to negotiate on a used vehicle. Regardless, I went through with my decision. Upon taking it for a test drive, my salesman (dameon) made comments about the way he drives the car. I couldn’t really blame him, so I looked past it and put my deposit down. The following week I came back to sign paperwork and pick up my car. When I got there, service was absolutely terrible. Whoever it was that “helped us” acted like he didn’t have time for us. After picking the car up, I noticed that there were 500 more miles on it than when I put down the deposit. At this point, it was already payed for so I kept my mouth shut. Well... after only a week of ownership, I got codes for a cylinder 2 and 4 misfire, and a terrible clunking noise from the front end. Just a shady place. Don’t regret the purchase, just wish it could’ve been somewhere else.

I purchased a car about a year ago. I was taking the family on vacation and forgot about my annual check up on car. Getting everything, oil change, tire rotation, fluids changed. And was driving to florida in 2 days I reached out to Ryan the manager and explained I was leaving in 2 days. He told me we are very full but will see what he can do. The next morning Ryan called and said bring it in. I really thought there was no chance do to my own fault. For a manager to go out of his way to do this for someone that bought a car over a year ago is above and beyond. It’s not like they were selling me a car. It was maintenance on my existing car. Those are the things that get repeat customers. Thanks again Ryan.Sincerely repeat customer!!

I have been waiting 3 hours (3hours and 20 minutes total) just to get a tire rotation and front brake pads put on. I had a 9am appointment! The people coming in after me have ALL BEEN HELPED AND HAVE LEFT ALREADY! I made an appointment a week prior to showing up. Is there only one person working today? I have a small child with me and Im also expecting! This is uncalled for! If someone makes an appointment for certain things to be done dont push them to the back of the line! I also waited 2 hours before they said ya your break pads need to be replaced, do you want to replace them? Really?! I told you when I made the appointment and when I checked Im I needed them replaced. Just because Im a woman doesnt give you the right to push me around! I know about cars and how long it should take! Was happy with my purchase till gray told me everything was good then he called me a day later saying he needs more money after we made the transaction. Don’t tell me you need more money after we said we are good. I’m really not happy about this. Would not recommend till a remedy fixes this. I paid my money and you said we are good. I have the keys and you now want more money. Really frustrated.

I found the staff that I worked with to be knowledgeable and very easy to deal with. They were honest and very clear with the details. The car buying market is not all that easy right now given the lack of cars but for me they did a nice job of finding what I wanted in a short period of time. Brought my truck in for some recall work they said it would take 2 days they finished it in 1 day. Fast and easy check in for the service department with good customer service. I did have them quote me a price on front brakes and the manufacturer recommended 100,000 mile service which they wanted to charge me $1,400 for. Thats why I gave them 3 stars.

DO NOT BUY A CAR HEREI bought a car here a couple weeks ago. After about 30 min of me owning the car and leaving a flashing check engine light came on. I called there and asked to speak to the manager I was forwarded to a so called manager named (RYAN LINDFORS) I told him I just got the car 30 min ago and a check engine light came on he said it not an issue need to handle I complained about it and said its going to be your issue and he hung up on me. What manager hangs up on a paying customer? I am getting my lawyer involved and taking legal action and i called the DMV to report the dealership, I will also call corporates Toyota. Just look at how poor there most recent reviews are.

If you love your family and friends, tell them to avoid this place because you WILL get cheated in every possible way. I dont know why my review was flagged. Mustve been by the owner or an employee. Reply to the owner: I was happy until I got home and had time to read the ridiculous charges totaling $1,300. $300 pulse brake option (one I didnt notice nor care for) and $1000 3M paint protection option ($600 over msrp) that YOUR dealership added on that was not noted on the sticker price nor sales declaration. When I finally got the receipt for the 3M service, the date stamp was 4 days after the purchase date of the car (very generic), plus it didnt have my signature on the signature line. I already tried to return it because I also wasnt happy about the 100+ miles thats on the brand new van, but your sales manager, Emily, said that the only way to return it was as a trade in, which was a huge insult. I showed her the carfax saying it only had 4 miles when it arrived FIVE days prior your claimed arrival date, but she quickly dismissed the carfax report. I want nothing to do with this place.

Bought a brand new 21 Camry, traded 2 vehicles in to buy this car. Was not able to negotiate as our salesmen didnt allow. Now we paid for a pulse light that was suppose to already be in the vehicle but it was not. We have contacted our sales guy and the sales manager - sales guy said that they are not able to refund us. And the manager said she would be in contact. It has now been a week and I have tried to call her. Needless to say am not impressed whatsoever. We brought a brand new vehicle and now are told we are not able to get a refund on something that is NOT on the vehicle...? I will not be looking at Carlson Toyota in the future. I have never had this terrible of service when buying a vehicle - especially a brand new one.

Just called and talked to someone in the parts dept. He was so rude! After explaining what I needed he says “huh” and throws the phone down. I called 30 min prior and no one answered. The receptionist says the all must be at lunch, can you call back in a little bit? Really?? Talk about poor customer service. Terrible.

I called to schedule an appointment to bring my car in for service. I was transferred to the service department. The phone rang for 4 minutes after which the receptionist came back and said no one was available. She asked if I wanted to leave a message and someone might call me back. I asked if there are occasions when they do not return calls. The receptionist replied that the service department does not always return calls.2 week follow up:After 2 weeks, the dealership responded offering to talk about my experience. I have since addressed the issue with my car at another shop. Maybe my situation was just an off day, who knows. I upgraded my review from 1 to 2 stars for the attempt to resolve my situation.

I brought my vehicle for repair covered by warranty. I was told that towing from mpls to the dealership would be covered, since the part and labor were still under warranty. Along the way, I was sold a break job, again insuring me that the tow would be covered. However, when it was time to pick the vehicle up, I was told that tow was not covered. Of course, when the dealer wanted to sell me the break job I was told, lied, abou tow being covered for dealer wanted to sell me another service. I do not like being lied to, so I would never use Carlson toyota for anything again.

Edit (5/12/2021): Im taking one star off of my review today.When we bought our car, the dealership offered to process the tab/license plate renewal for us to save on extra paperwork. We agreed and let them do their thing. It had been quite some time and I hadnt heard anything from them regarding, so I decided to call on 5/12 to see where theyre at. They said they called and left a message, asking whether we wanted to pick them up or mailed out. I dont recall getting a message on my phone.Im curious if I didnt call, would they ever send out the tabs, or just put it upon me to follow up? How long would it have taken?Original review:Dealing with our sales rep, JR, was very nice and easy going. We ended up buying a car, and everything was mostly straightforward.Carlson Toyota gets dinged because of a lack of masking up by some employees and lack of enforcement with customers. We visited 2 times and noticed the same 2 employees who had difficulty wearing masks while they were dealing with people. If they werent dealing directly with customers, I might not have even noticed.Otherwise, the buying process was fine. We worked with JR, Nick and Pam and they were all very nice, cordial and professional. Thanks!

I scheduled an appt for an oil change for today at 2:30pm. I was on time and my vehicle wasnt ready until 4:30pm. A 2 hour wait for an oil change is ridiculous. What was the point in scheduling and appointment? Appointments are meant to be respectful of both parties time. I wouldnt recommend taking your vehicle here unless you have nothing else to do all day and dont care how long it takes.

Finally bought a new car in 2017. Bought the extended bumper to bumper warranty for around $2900. My wife brought the car in for its first warranty issues in 81,000 miles. The glove box door keeps falling off on the left hinge and a stress crack behind the review mirror on the windshield. The service tech told my wife that there was only a drivetrain warranty left on it and that we would have to pay for it unless Toyota somehow would approve the work after the fact and pay for it. I called Maplewood Toyota where we bought it from and within 2 minutes they found it on Toyotas website that we do indeed have a bumper to bumper Platinum warranty and to bring it into them and they would take care of it. Hmmm...why would carlson toyota not know that, or not want us to know that? Were they trying to pull something over on my wife? Dont know. So, so long Carlson, Ill stick with Maplewood Toyota from now on, Ive found Maplewood open, knowledgable, and honest with me from the start. I did get a call from Scott the service manager who explained that the service rep was new to the job and he was going to train him how to find the warranty info in the future.

This is every single woman’s nightmare. I was prepared for the high sales pressure environment and sleazy salesmen, but was not prepared to be pinned as an easy target and taken advantage of at every turn. After three hours of getting no where I left in tears. The original salesperson I was supposed to meet with had a meeting scheduled with me outside of his shift time so I sat waiting for 45 min until they pawned me off on someone else who left me waiting again for hours while he tried to come up with a deal for me. Meanwhile I told everyone I was simply only interested in buying out my lease not a new car. But NOPE gave me scare tactics and pressure before I finally had enough. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone!! There are amazing dealerships that don’t employ old sleazy salesmen that will con you and take advantage of you at every turn so I suggest looking elsewhere. I left feeling slimy and emotionally beaten. I can’t wait for the next generation to faze out this outdated method of selling cars.

DO NOT USE THIS DEALER. I leased a 2018 Toyota Camry from this dealer. When I return the vehicle I returned both keys and the dealer lost one. Also, the vehicle had some damage to the driver side door. The dealer told me dont worry about it and persuaded me to return the demeged vehicle as it is and lease a new one the same day. Eventually I was charged about $600 for lost key and damage. I called Toyota complain line and this dealer never reached out to me to resolve the issue. I reached out to them and one of their manager (Amy or Amily) refuses to take any action and said she can not help me because I raised my voice.In fact, I recommend not doing business with Toyota at all. Because if there is any wrong doing from the dealer side, the complain line can do nothing about it other than keep sending a note to the dealer. If you need financing, you are at the risk of subpar survive quality from the Toyota Financial Service. Toyota Financial Service is very slow in response to any request and their representatives are extremely unprofessional in their work.

Rather than kindly reply no problem or thank you, heres your numbers like all the other dealerships profofessionally did, this guy decided to not only not provide anything by email but to justify why he wouldnt provide them and why I HAD to drive an hour. Took our Rav in a few weeks ago for oil change, they assured us that they check all the fluids, brakes etc. Said the breaks were fine, took to another service center because of constant grinding noise, brakes and rotors needed to be replaced. Similar thing happened in January with our daughters Camry. Brought in for oil change, everything checked out good. Two weeks later car didn’t start and needed to take in to a local shop for a new battery. What’s the purpose of routine preventive maintenance of not checking what they say they do. Tried to get ahold of service manger with no success. Between these incidents and our car shopping experiences at Toyota will definitely be finding a different dealer. Customer service here has gone down hill.

First time using Carlson Toyota. Our Sienna needed the recalled spare tire mount replaced. Turns out we didn’t even have a spare underneath, can you say ‘we didn’t do our due diligence when buying it used’? Assistant Service Manager Josiah Hass had the shop put a spare on for free. WOW!Also, the waiting area is like a spacious hotel lobby with a counter area so I could get work done while I waited. ☺️

I was in need of a new vehicle, however the process seemed overwhelming and anxious to me. I found Carlson through the Costco Car Buying program and reached out about interest I had in a Highlander. Terri from the dealership contacted me and although I hesitated calling Im so glad I did. She was so pleasant to work with over the phone and answered so many questions and promised she would do what she could to help me. The following day I did go to another Toyota dealership closer to my home and while the experience there was fine, something in me just had a better vibe to work with Terri. Later that afternoon I drove 40mins to Carlson and met Terri and instantly felt comfortable that she did have my best interest when buying a new used car. We test drove the Highlander I had found earlier that day online (different from the one I originally contacted her about) and really liked it. I did not feel pressured at all that day to sign any paperwork and she truly respected me needing to talk it over with family and think about such a big purchase. That following Monday my mother and I went to sign the paperwork. Again, Terri was there with energy greeting us and making sure I knew how to use everything on the car, helped me pair up my phone etc. Ive never had anyone take the time to do this with me in previous car purchases. My mom on the way home commented how great she thought Terri and the rest of the staff was at Carlson. I may live 40mins away but I highly recommend this dealership and will be back for service (on a Saturday) when I can! Thank you for everything

Just purchased a 2020 4Runner and it was the best car buying experience we’ve ever had. Jake Schroeder found us exactly what we were looking for, within our price range. They had to move it from another dealer and it arrived ahead of schedule, and we were able to purchase the same day they received it. I leased a new Toyota here and turned in my leased vehicle. Carlson failed to contact my leasing company (US Bank) and complete the transaction in a timely manner. This resulted in US Bank filing negative information on my credit report, damaging my credit score. I attempted to resolve this several times with Carlson and was ignored. Jill in the Financial Services Department specifically told me she would resolve the issue and call me the next day. She did not call for weeks. When she finally called, she asked if I had the title to the vehicle (obviously US Bank has the title). I would recommend buying your Toyota from any other dealership in the Metro area, there are plenty of options.

If youre looking for a dealership where the salesman throws a tantrum because you want to look at another vehicle, this is your place! My husband and I went to test drive a vehicle we have been considering, first time actually driving this model. The car was nice and clean but we had another vehicle elsewhere we also wanted to check out. So Kevin, the salesmen runs some numbers with our trade in and shows us a printout of these numbers. I told him we want to think about it. He goes and gets our car keys, comes back with another offer, 1k additional on our trade, but only if we commit right then. I told him that I was not ready to buy that moment and needed to think on it. He then got upset, Youre going to turn this down,really?. I told him yes, I want to look at another vehicle. I said thanks and was ready to leave, so my husband was going to grab the offer form (the one for 1k less, that was initially presented) Kevin then snatched them out of his hands and walked away. It was incredibly rude and honestly felt like a child who just got told no. I went outside and looked for my car, could not find it after walking around looking in the cold. So I had to go back in and ask and was then walked through a back hallway to my vehicle behind the building. there is no way I would have been able to find on my own, but he didnt even tell me where to go. Ive never had such unprofessional service and its actually comical how childish Kevin acted. I will never go there and will continue to tell people of Kevins horrible customer service.

This is where I got my first non family owned car and the deal was amazing! I got a used 2015 Toyota Corolla and they had replaced pretty much everything, brand new brakes, new tires...etc... I figured a car like that would be super expensive but I got it for 13,000! I do have to warn you that the area that they are set in is very commercial so if they are doing road work or anything like that, the commute is a killer!

Oil change takes forever... over 1.30 hr WITH appointment. Brooklyn park location only takes 45 mins max with NO appointments needed. Not coming back. Time is valuable and do not want to waste it on an oil change.

He had the vehicle ready for us to test drive when we arrived, was very attentive, friendly, answered all our questions and went above and beyond to make sure we felt comfortable and was never pushy. I got my vehicle serviced a while back and would like to share my experience. While my vehicle was getting serviced a man named Josh Goar approached me to try to get me to buy a new vehicle even though I told him repeatedly that I was not interested. He was by far the rudest person I have ever met. I finally had to tell him if he didnt leave me alone I was going to report him. Also as I was walking around out back waiting for my vehicle, I noticed one of the employees yelling at a young man for no apparent reason. I believe he worked in the detail department and drove an older model red Toyota pick up. I told him that he was way out of line and that he shouldnt treat people like that, especially colleagues. He swore at me and told me to mind my own business. I then payed for my service and left immediately, never to return again. SMH

I’ve been very loyal to Carlson Toyota over the past 7 years. I’ve purchased 3 vehicles and done all my maintenance at there service department. In the last year they don’t seem to want you to do your maintenance with them. It’s to bad but I will find another dealership that wants my business.

There were four separate pricing mistakes I had to point out in the process of buying a new vehicle.Be careful to make sure what you are signing matches what youve agreed on for numbers.The issues I encountered were:1) After agreeing on OTD cost with Adam via phone/text for a new Sienna, I made a deposit via credit card. Once the vehicle was ready a few days later, he called me to coordinate pickup. However, now the OTD cost was now significantly higher than our agreement. He had lost our original numbers. I had to resend him the documents he had sent me originally in order for them to honor their original pricing.2) Once at the dealership in financing after the car was ready, the OTD cost was again wrong (but with a different wrong price). This mistake required redoing most of the financing process paperwork as the finance manager did not let me see the OTD price until after processing most of the paperwork. The numbers on the DMV form had not seemed accurate when I was reviewing, however when I mentioned this the finance person (Pam) condescendingly brushed off my concerns about the OTD price being incorrect. But the price was incorrect, again, and we had to redo a significant portion of the paperwork.3) After finalizing the initial paperwork for the second time, the financing rate was wrong. I had talked with a finance manager (Gray) on phone the day we visited to pick up our vehicle. He quoted me a rate based on the online finance application which sounded great. However when I arrived, all the financing was setup with a higher rate. I had to talk with the different finance person (Pam) to redo the rates. She did end up being able to beat the phone quote from before -- but only after I mentioned I would just use my preapproval from my bank instead of use their financing.4) After having the right rate/OTD price, the loan term was filled out incorrectly and required redoing paperwork yet again. I noticed this after reading the paperwork closely.I do not think the customer should have to catch four separate pricing mistakes and to avoid being overcharged at least at one point in the process.At no point in the process has anyone from Carlson involved seemed apologetic regarding these issues. Both Adam/Pam seemed annoyed I expected to pay the agreed upon and written price for the vehicle.In the end we did get the correct price/financing eventually, but it caused financing paperwork to take 2x as long because the mistakes required doing almost all the paperwork twice.The car is great, we love it. The experience was really poor on both the sales/finance side.

Over the last 6 years I’ve purchased 3 vehicles from Carlson because I trusted them to provide an outstanding value and experience from their service department. Due to recent changes in management they no longer have my trust and I’ll be taking my business elsewhere.
