We adopted Henry a few weeks ago. We had a great experience with the staff- however I wanted to follow up on a few things. We were told Henry was 3.5 years old and after we went to the vet they confirmed he was around 6-10 years old; we knew three and a half was a stretch but we had no idea he would be closer to being a senior dog. Second- I don’t think the oatmeal baths were helping his skin because he has an all over skin infection which is treated by antibacterial and anti fungal shampoo. Third- he has an eye infection and fourth he has a double ear infection, two in one ear and one in the other. Fourth, he is resistant to the antibiotic the humane society sent us home with. We wanted Henry the second we heard his story, we knew he was going to need extra love, extra patience and lots of attention. Henry is also our first dog. We are pleased with the overall experience but very shocked at everything that we were oblivious to. It has been a while now, each day he is getting healthier and we are so happy that we found him. We just wish that we knew what condition his health was in, especially with how much we payed and how much we had to pay for the vet visit and medication (and future appointments at that). If anything were to be taken from my review I hope that in the future there can be more diligence with dogs like this. Again, we are very thankful and I hope that this post is a happy update for the workers there because we know Henry was there since November and we took him home on the second of February. We just find it so shocking at how wrong everything was that they brought up.

Everyone be aware that even though the rest of the world lets people in without an appointment, this location doesn’t. Im vaccinated, these pets need a home and still they ask only via appointment. Its a nuisance since my work schedule varies so much. Will gladly try other rescues until they change their policy!

When my black lab/pit was brought in, she was pregnant, emaciated and infested with 100s of ticks. They adopted her babies out, and spayed her. They gave her treatment to kill the ticks, but couldnt bath her due to her spay surgery. Went ahead and put her up for adoption. I got her, and she was 32lbs, full grown. I had to brush dead ticks out of her fur for a week. She was so emaciated. She developed kennel cough so severe, she needed meds and could only sleep when i rubbed her sore muscles. I slept on the floor for 3 days. She is now a healthy ( not even overweight) 90lbs. I understand needing to adopt, but its disappointing they honestly seemed to think she was ok. Best doggy Ive ever had.

The humane society is one of the gems of MN; not only is the staff great, but the volunteers are amazing. They have personal stories, they have love for all the animals, and they are willing to do whatever it takes to make you feel good about the decision youre making. I honestly wish I could help all the animals there, but thats just not possible, knowing they are in good hands helps me sleep at night.PRO TIP: if youre an Amazon user, you can change to using Amazon Smile (google it), by making purchases through Amazon Smile a percentage of your purchases can be donated - MN Animal Humane Society is where I give my % to.

That was irritating as it should have been posted somewhere before we made the trip. Then the person who let us in was not friendly nor informational. Our experience was not good and we hope the animals were cared for better than the humans. We didnt take any animals home with us and probably wont come back.

In March of 2017 we had to put our loving cat to rest, it has taken me this long to make a post about it. But after reading some of these reviews I feel confident enough to say that the vets do not run full examinations on their animals. We were told our cat who at the time was a year old with a litter of kittens was in great health. She sadly was not. Within less than a year of having her, she started to become lethargic and stopped eating. She would sit by the heating vent in our home for warmth. We made an appointment and brought her to our vet and we were told that she was dying of feline leukemia. Our vet said there is no way this severe of a case would have a false negative test. Since this is extremely contagious for other cats and kittens you would think this would be held to a high standard for testing. As much as we loved our little fur baby, it saddens me to have let her suffer for almost a year and not know it. Adopters beware and ask for retests if needed. Speak up if you are concerned.

In it for the money, not for the care of the animals. Refused to return a rescue dog that was surrendered back to its rescue as Bryan stated if I gave every dog back to their rescue, we wouldnt make money. Working together saves lives. A kill facility also. Theyll say 95% adoption rate however, facilities like this only have to report their kill percentage for animals deemed adoptable. Who deems them adoptable? They do. So kill rates are inaccurate. Adopt, but be very careful surrendering. If needing to surrender, I highly encourage finding a no kill, foster based rescue.Adoption is important to save lives. Absolutely. But Bryan needs to also re-evaluate his morals and ethics and why he is in the industry hes in.

We adopted a dog and it snapped at my daughters face so we had to return her. We received a credit and decided to adopt a dog elsewhere. This credit has to be used all at once! $383 all at once on food toys whatever! I requested they let me split it use 1/2 now and 1/2 in a month or so, they would not allow it. They told me I could donate the rest of what I dont use. I ended up buying a kennel that I didnt need so I tried to return it and they said we cannot accept returns purchased on a credit! Really!?! Yep definitely in for it for the money! Anybody can adopt a animal no background check no questions of how you live or whether you can afford to feed and care for that animal ect.. We also adopted a cat there they told us it is best if we buy a harness to take it outside instead of let him roam so I did what they advised the cat went crazy on the harness and split my finger with its claw and now its permanently a hammer finger. Obviously I was given the wrong advice!

The name for the place could not be more misleading, humane they are not! My son was extorted in a pay to play volunteer scheme. He really loves animals and I guess it is a huge privilege to work at this place, so much so that you need to pay them to work. After a few months of working for free, he was asked not to return. Unable to hold a real job due to injuries, working with the animals was rewarding and therapeutic for him. Explaining to the professional staff that my son is a military veteran with a traumatic brain injury carried no sway with the manager. The facility is very pretty and not unlike a government building. It has become very clear to me that the primary mission of the animal humane society is professional fundraising to support professional staff. A quick Google search will bring up other shelters and rescue organizations that likely focus more on needy animals and the volunteers who care for them rather than paid professionals focused on feel good fundraising schemes that will pay there own salaries. I have adopted an animal at this location and I remember walking out the door feeling like I had just completed a retail pet store purchase rather than adopting a homeless animal. I will never buy an animal at a pet store or the animal humane society. In fact, I think that I may have more respect for the pet store as they operate without the pretense of a charity.

We surrendered back our dog after we realized our dog was not the best fit for our family as she needed a much more active family. We surrendered our dog back, and the humane society was quick to have her euthanized less than a week later. We thought we were doing the right thing by giving this smart and loving dog back to where we got her. We thought we were being selfish by keeping her in a small townhome when we knew she needed a big yard as she loved to run around. I just wish the humane society would have contacted us and let us know the situation and we would have saved her.

I wasn’t sure if the hamster was injured enough to where it had to be Euthanized- when I talk to the gals they both reassured me they would do an evaluation before that choice had to be made.. Well I walked in - no one said hi nothing brought us to a room and sat there. Then was asked to fill out paperwork for The euthanizing- 1 - they didn’t even look at the poor animal to determine that. Then when I asked if she was going to evaluate she said how am I suppose to know! This was a waste of time - I’m more upset I called and talked to 2 ppl before and they said yes will evaluate and if there’s something we can do will recommend a vet!!!! I went to this location today for the first time to meet an adorable senior chihuahua that I was interested in adopting. I walked in the door and no one said hello to me or anything. I actually had to work for the attention of the front desk attendant. She told me the chihuahua was still available for adoption, so I quickly made my way to the dog room. I noticed that the chihuahua appeared to be walking with one of her front paws abnormally. She also appeared to be very, very dirty. It looked as though she had vomited on herself at some point and no one bothered to clean her up. I asked to meet the dog and was lead to the typical meeting room. The dog came in and appeared to be very sweet and gave me lots of kisses. After a few minutes, the volunteer woman returned with a tablet to answer some of my questions. The woman seemed really confused about all the information she was reading. One moment she said the dog was a stray, then the next moment she said that the dog had been adopted once already. I asked why the dog appeared so dirty and the woman told me, We dont bathe the dogs because we find its too traumatic for them. This really surprised me because Ive been to different humane society locations and have never witnessed a dog looking as seemingly neglected. The woman continued to jump around with the information being read, as I continued to find more things caught in the dogs coat (including feces). The woman then told me that the people that originally adopted the dog had returned her because they had discovered she had cancer, were told to amputate the paw, and thats why she was limping. The woman then told me that there was no proof of this but they did not know the reason for the dogs limping (very concerning). I decided that this dog had too many questions surrounding it and I couldnt bring myself to adopt it. I then asked to see another dog that had interested me, only to have it then come to the room and also appear as though it had not been bathed or taken care of. This dog also had feces in its fur as well as dirt. I ended up leaving the facility feeling very concerned for the animals. I love the Woodbury and Golden Valley locations. Always clean and always nice. I would not recommend that anyone bother commuting to this location unless you call ahead of time to learn everything possible about the animal you are interested in and continue to ask questions when you get there.

Your phone system is setup with fake holds designed to make you listen to garbage that makes you feel guilty about abandoning your animal.I sent an email requesting an appointment and you respond saying the earliest one is 2.5 weeks out and did not schedule it. Your company is truly incompetent.Response to reply from owner: Yes. I understand that. I requested an appointment and you failed to set it up. The email I sent very clearly stated set up an appointment ASAP. Your team proceeded to attempt to guilt trip me into keeping the animals yet again. The issue is not the time.
