In our collaborative divorce, we were fortunate to have Randi Cohen as a member of the team. She was part of our initial marital “assessment/evaluation” and the difficult unwinding of the marriage. She was also part of the collaborative process that continually stressed the children as she managed the communication incongruencies between me and my wife. With every issue we paid attention to the effect on the children. Our parenting plan was thorough, reasonable and detailed but allowed room for conversation. The most difficult day of my life was telling our children about the divorce-Randi was part of that discussion and added more value and clarity of communication for the children in a very “real” way. It was extremely difficult but Randi managed everyone’s emotions thoughtfully, professionally and in a very caring manner.During the divorce proceedings, Randi was very even-handed and respectful. She could be stern and tough at relevant times.Randi was a valuable member of the process. I have recommended 3different couples to her. Randi Cohen was a true professional.
I reached out to Randi during the initial phase of a significant crisis. I didnt know her personally and had never worked with her as a client but she was a respected member of my community. She reacted with alarm and fear and stated that she wondered why I was calling her. As a fellow member of the counseling profession, I assumed that a counselor would understand why a person in crisis might call them. At the time of the call I felt ... kind of ashamed? But not really, as Ive known counselors who can handle a wide range of human experience -- including crisis. I wish Randi had been able to respond to my reaching out as a grounded professional.
