Vet express was the only vet office out of the several I called that had availability and are open on Sunday’s which works great with my work availability.They informed me what needed improvement in his care and what I can continue doing! Super hands on and great with him even though he was super crazy! I was in and out within an hour. Vets and staff are great are knowledgeable! Prices at this office are great as well!And I was writing this they even called to do a check up on Dex to see how he’s doing after the appointment!
What a life saver! I was extremely worried about my dogs health prior to visiting vetXpress. We recently switched vets. I must say the doctors and nurses at vetXpress are simply amazing. They are patient, knowledgeable, reliable, and kind. They really listen, they care, and it shows. Their team ran tests, completed assessments and developed a sustainable & comprehensive treatment plan. In a few weeks, Ive seen a complete turn-around in my pets health. During each visit, we are treated like family. Cost of care is affordable. The nurses always call to remind us of appointments and never fail to check on us after a doctor visit. They have been so friendly and helpful. I know I can count on them to provide my family with the best pet care possible.KUDOS to the VetXpress team! You rock!
Just came out of this vet office to get my daughter’s pet hamster’s nails and possibly his teeth trimmed. The lady at the front desk was very rude and passive aggressive! Since it was an outpatient visit, we unfortunately could not go back during the procedure and had to work through her to give and get feedback on my daughter’s pet. Not a pleasant experience at all! Never coming back! We’ll try another place next time!
I live in Midlothian VA, a family member recommended this place, being that we live 30 minutes away, I called first to see if they could see my 7 year old chiuawawa as a walk in, I told them what was going on and I was told I could bring her in as a walk in between 10-11. I get there about 10:30 A.M, and I was told that they dont have a doctor there to see her, they arent seeing walk ins today but I could drop her off but there would be no doctor to see her, we asked how long she would be there. I was told she would basically be with them all day, keep in mind I was told there was no doctor that could see her so why would I drop her off to sit there all day??? I know the young girl didnt know or care how far i traveled to come but it wouldve been nice to know there was no doctor there before driving 30 minutes for no reason. A call back after the fact of finding this out after our call wouldve been appreciated.
A really great experience here on a Sunday as a walk in patient. The receptionists were exceptionally nice and the vet team was top notch for our two month old newly adopted kitten with a URI. The prognosis was great and they didnt make me feel like an alarmist for bringing her in on a Sunday. I got lucky and only waited 45 minutes to be seen and was completely done in an hour and a half. We will be back for emergent weekend needs. Thank you!
If I could give this place a negative 10 I would. I took my pug to Vet Xpress because he had been bitten by a snake. He was dropped off in the morning and we were told to pick him up around 3 pm. My husband picked him up and the vet NEVER came to speak to him, instead sending his tech. She read from the instructions on the discharge papers which said they gave him antibiotics, fluids, and steroids and that he would be just fine. Around 330pm I noticed that his breathing was labored and I rushed him to the emergency vet on Cary street. When I got there they said that he was in critical condition. 10 minutes later he was dead. This vet is a hack. He didnt even notice that he had not one but 3 snake bites. This guy should not be allowed to practice veterinary medicine and is totally responsible for his death.
When I walked in the first question was “ do you have proof of your covid vaccine ?” I answered “ that’s a HIPPA violation and I’m not answering anything about my medical record with you . Then you will have to wear a mask . Nope I can’t do that either ! So the doctor comes out and asks if I have a question about their covid policy . I answered nope . I waited in my car and left them the kitten . 2 techs came to my car with masks one did not ( not like I care but you need to be consistent with your regime . If you are a patriot, I would look somewhere else for VET services .
Not understanding why front desk does not know how to charge the right amount for food. Three different time of buying food and the same exact experience. Maybe they should have a list made and put on the wall so staff and customers know how much food cost. I have had this problem three different times with three different people where they have over charged me.
Dr. Sanwald is an awesome Dr. who knows what hes talking about and takes the time to explain things so you understand whats going on with your pet. The staff is amazing! They are always friendly and helpful. This place is also affordable compared to a lot of others.
I meant to write this review along time ago. The vet, vet techs, receptionist, and manager at this place are all exceptional. They took such good care of my cat, exploring every single avenue to help me figure out what was going on with her. She actually ended up having brain cancer and I wouldn’t have ever found that out if they didn’t support me and my search for answers. The vet was always kind and always took the time to make sure I knew you and understood what was going on as well as he Always explained all of my options and the pricing associated with those options. I will always be grateful to them and I plan on being a returning customer with my new little guy.
I don’t normally write reviews but I understand how important these reviews are, especially when you’re looking for the best care for your pet.When we took our cat Zeytin here, he had advanced urinary blockage was probably hours away from death. We needed emergency care, and they were the only place open on a weekend when most other veterinarians were closed. They took the best care of him, and brought him back to full health.Dr. Sanwald, and the staff were completely professional, knowledgeable and kind. They were very upfront and clear with the costs and what needed to be done, and never pushed us into any unnecessary procedures. Communication from the entire staff was top notch, and always got back to us quickly with post operation questions.Even though their location is way out of our way, they’ve become our main Vet. We Highly recommend them!
Highly displeased. Used them because my vet was closed on the weekend for a sick 4 week old puppy. They then scheduled me to return for vaccines and deworming. At my local vet, vax cost $250 for a litter of 5..... At the end of the appt., I was billed $580 and NO ONE THOUGHT TO MENTION BEFOREHAND. Total scam. My mother took them, as I was at work and had to pay over double what it should cost.. Dont use them for puppy litters. Complete rip off. HIGHLY DISSATISFIED WITH THEIR SERVICE. What if my mom didnt have $600 in her account to pay? Very unprofessional on their part.
This place just blows me away with their kindness, professionalism, courtesy, cleanliness and, yes, prices! I have been avoiding going to veterinarians in Colonial Heights for YEARS due to less-than-stellar treatment, but finally found an absolutely great place for my fur babies! The staff is amazing and ALWAYS have smiles on their faces. I cannot recommend them highly enough! You will NOT be disappointed. 😊
Whoever is managing this now needs Education.When we first took our retired service dog here the vet who was performing a procedure on a ear hematoma did an awesome job. There was a long wait coming in as if no one was there to greet you. We looked passed it and everything was explained clearly to understand the charges and what’s happening.Our dog ended up with another hematoma a couple of months later and we took her back. This new foreign vet didkt perform the same procedure and charges us over $150.00 to empty her ear and give some medicine. Didn’t explain exactly what they were doing and 2 days later her ear was filled Again. When we called back to see why and what can be done; we get a there’s nothing else I can do. You would have to bring her in again and do the same thing.They don’t really care about any animal. When you call the phone just rings and rings. There suposed to be Quick and it takes a long time here for your pets to be looked at. Their prices may be cheaper but they aren’t efficient. 2 weeks later I have to take her back to her original vet and drive longer but get better service. Check the pictures of the ear after their procedure. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!
I took my dog there once because she had an issue with her eye because I couldn’t get in with her regular vet. They since call me every couple of weeks requesting I make an appointment for preventative care. The receptionists that are there are completely unprofessional. They talk badly about the people that work there and also the customers that bring their animals. The vet I had was nice and knowledgeable. I have requested numerous times that they stop calling me and the office still calls. When I told the woman to stop calling me because they keep calling me like creditor and owe them nothing she laughed and hung up. Absolutely ridiculous, unacceptable, and unprofessional.
Hi! We visited the colonial heights vetXpress for the first time today. And it was the best visit ever. From the time I called and set up the appointment for my new puppy Leo..to actually coming in today for his visit. Super clean facilities. The veterinarian tech ladies (sorry Im so terrible with names) but they know who they are. 😉 She was super knowledgeable and just made my pup feel at ease with her...so, that made me feel at ease. The doctor has been in his field for a long time. And definitely knows his stuff. He answered all my questions and even gave me some extra tips on my husky pup. Thank you guys for all that you do for us new pup mommies! 😀
I went in for a rabies vaccination and to ask for an overall health assessment for a senior dog that I recently adopted. Setting up the appointment was easy enough, and the check-in went smoothly. My biggest issue was that it seems like they are more about profit than care. The assistant kept trying to talk me into panels, chest x-rays, dental cleanings/extractions and other tests. All of these suggestions were made before the vet even came into the room to see my dog. His assistant read me a long list of suggested “treatments” that she estimated to be $780 (without accounting for X-rays of course). I’m not sure if the employees are working on commission there, but it seems a little weird to push so many treatments on a pet before it’s even been assessed. I left with a $400 bill, and that was after telling the assistant to take shampoos, conditioners, and other items off of the invoice that I never asked about. The vet seemed nice enough, but I’m just not really a fan of having things pushed on me and putting an animal through unnecessary treatments without reason.
Our first visit was the day our 16 yr. old chihuahua was very ill and in pain. Our regular Vet was too busy to see him, and he need immediate attention. He was in the last stage of his life. Pet Xpess saw us immediately, were compassionate and caring for both my dog and myself. I highly recommend them, and have started taking my other two dogs to them.
Have the best experience with my cat they even call after the appt just to see how she was feeling . like so much i even change my old vet for them, love them ...
The staff here was kind, compassionate and patient when I had to make the incredibly difficult decision to put my beloved dog down. They explained the procedure and they treated both of us with respect and dignity. Not only did they support my decision, but they did everything they could to support us both through the process.The vet (Im sorry, I cant recall his name, he was a very tall man) even shared a personal experience from a place of compassion to ease my suffering and indecision.They are special people who went the extra mile.

The office is always clean and the staff cheerful yet empathetic to the needs of their Clients, especially during emotionally difficult times. The staff is caring, attentive and helpful.Dr. Mike is empathetic and realistic about courses of treatment he recommends. Dr. E is gone and we aren’t happy about it! I used to love vetXpress but now that him and his staff are gone we will be searching for a new vet. We didn’t feel like our dog was truly cared about and really didn’t feel like the vet knew how to treat our baby. Our rescue dog is considered family and so we are going to take care of him like family and search for care he deserves. If anyone knows where Dr. E went please contact me!
Very friendly, professional and were great with my dog. The clinic is clean and has a pleasant atmosphere furthermore they are conveniently located. Prices are good and they will work with you and your pet. They offer first time customers a 1 dollar vet exam you cant beat that even on a tight budget. 5 stars...
Just got off the phone with this place. I had been here before, but after the customer service I received from the female on the phone I won’t be a returning customer.Revision: Now they respond that I seemed to be in a rush. Not at all considering I said ok thank you before hanging up the phone. The woman I talked to was very rude and unprofessional. I gave her ample time to say whatever she had to say.
Overall poor experience. My 2 dogs became established patients at vetXpress back in 2018, and from the first visit I experienced various problems in multiple areas. One reoccurring issue was with the front desk/administration. First, the front desk attendant was often quite inattentive and often made me feel like I was interrupting her, so I tried to talk with other staff members if I could. I did visit the clinic several times because one of my dogs was having a continuous health problem so this behavior wasnt just a one time thing, it happened on multiple occasions. On one occasion, I had a difficult time requesting shot records to have my dogs boarded at a local facility, because each time I got a copy, the information was incorrect or missing; and this was for both pets. It took me two more visits to the office before I received the correct documents. I should have looked at the paperwork to make sure it was accurate but I had some degree of trust that the staff would fix the problem and handle my pets information correctly.Secondly, the clinic was quite dirty compared to other vet clinics I have been to in the past. Almost each time I was taken to one of the private rooms the area seemed rather unkempt. The floor and table were often covered in hair and smears. Now, I realize this is a vet clinic, so therefore I dont expect a perfectly sterile room but this was quite excessive and I greatly questioned the clinics sanitation policies.Lastly, my final call to this facility occurred today, a year later; to once again request my pets shot records. I had received a copy prior to moving out of state but they were lost in the process. I asked the representative for the records on Tuesday, and he told me I needed to submit a request in writing, so I sent them an email with my request. The gentleman told me he would then send me the shot records. I didnt get an email so I called Wednesday to double check the email I provided was correct. The lady on the phone found my email and let me know she would send them. Friday came around and I still hadnt gotten an email. So, I called the office again and they were able to confirm that they sent me an email on Thursday, which let me know that the two people from Tuesday and Wednesday didnt follow through. This didnt bother me in the slightest because I understand they are a busy office and maybe they just couldnt get to it. However, when I did receive my records today, I noticed my dogs rabies records were not there. So, once again I called the office to add the information like I did in my previous experience requesting shot records. Turns out they do not have any record of my 2 dogs rabies vaccinations which I brought it from a previous vet clinic before I started seeing vetXpress. Long story short, my initial shot record request to was provide proof of vaccination to a boarding facility which usually requires rabies and several other vaccinations. 1 year ago I received those records...now a year later they have seemingly disappeared from their database except for those services vetXpress administered. The representative Erica, I spoke to apologized that they did not have what I was looking for but could not assist me any further because she was not working there back then.After my history of difficult encounters with this clinic and the repeatedly poor handling of my pets health records I discourage pet owners from choosing this establishment. I gave this review a two star because I very much enjoyed the veterinarian. He was kind and helpful which is why its a shame that the administrative side of the clinic operates so poorly. These problems were not the only issues I had with this company, but for times sake, the two most frequent and upsetting experiences.
Ive been here 5 times and they have been so accommodating and welcoming each and every time. I would highly recommend this place. If you love your pet, bring them here. You can rest assured that they will be taken care of. Their reasonable prices and the quality of their service will keep bringing you back.
I couldnt say more good about this place. Amazing staff intelligent doctors and most of all compassionate people. I want to mention one of I think the vet techs or nurses, Katie. She is absolutely amazing and thoughtful and super helpful! Making this our goto vet!
I took my puppy here for shots. After we got home and took he took a nap he woke up and his entire left side of his body was so swollen that he couldn’t walk, move, or do anything. He even peed on himself because he couldn’t get up. He cried for hours. I immediately took him back to the vet who asked me questions like “did you drop him?” “Did he play rough?” They basically insinuated that I hurt him and that’s why he was swollen. I’m 99% sure they dropped him, he fell off the table, or they were too rough giving him his shots. I could hear him screaming from 5 rooms away when he was getting his shots and fecal samples. THEN they tried to charge me to see the vet for a follow up on his swelling...!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE. I WILL NEVER BE RETURNING. They neglect your animals needs and only care about making money.
I have taken both my cats to vetXpress multiple times. Dr. Ereio and his staff are awesome. They all love animals and make you feel at home. I am traveling across the country with my cats, and they have been very helpful with finding the right medication and giving me advice to help keep them from experiencing anxiety. Their prices are reasonable, too. If I werent moving, vetXpress would be my lifelong veterinary clinic.

Our pupper escaped the front door and came back with a sizable wound. We were able to get in and get him stitched up and out of surgery in a few hours total. I really did feel they did everything for him to be comfortable and safe, and I would go here again. The price was spectacular for what we had to have done. Dr. Sanwald was really nice and reassuring.
Chose this vet location after moving to the area, at initial visit I was bringing my very large dog and also my 3 month old baby alone, as my husband had to work.The staff was thoughtful and courteous enough to let me check out from our room instead of the waiting room and also two staff members volunteered to walk my dog to the car for me and even helped get him in the back of my SUV! The tech and the doctor were both very nice and caring throughout the entire visit. Couldnt have asked for more.
My cat Levi required extensive medical care and Vet Express has developed a treatment plan that has helped Levi feel better and extend his life expectancy. He is gaining weight, showing interest in his toys and feels better. Excellent staff. They are very kind to Levi and help reduce his anxiety when he has to get his shots. Thank you.

My cat had a problem with his eye, where the lump inside of it burst. I set up an appointment at the local petsmart hospital, accidentally came a day early, and they turned him away saying that they didnt have the space, and to come back the next day. My cats eye was bleeding into itself, and they didnt even try to see him to help. Never going there again.My aunt took me to THIS vet that same day and asked them if they would take an emergency walk-in to look at my cats eye, and they IMMEDIATELY said yes, bring him in. The doctor was kind, honest, and to the point through the whole visit, and all the techs were helpful and warm.
Most amazing VET ever took my dog Oreo in for her basic vaccines would recommend this vet to anyone. Definitely going back!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The people here are wonderful! We are new to the area and had previously gone to another vet in the area that I was not impressed with at all. My puppy also showed very clear feelings of dislike and unease towards the vet there. Decided to go to Vetxpress for some after care for my pup and I will never go anywhere else as long as we live here!! They were very clear in their communications about medications, care, prices etc. and made sure the prices were something I was comfortable with. Doctor Ereio spent time with me going over certain products I had questions and concerns about. The tech who came in before him was also very thorough and very helpful and willing to answer my questions. I did not leave with any of my questions unanswered and I never felt rushed or like an inconvenience. And my pup loved everyone there! Everyone we encountered was very warm and welcoming and seemed truly happy to be there. I will recommend this place to anyone and everyone!!
Not happy with the vetXpress in Colonial Heights. I’d give less stars if I could as well. The front staff are not very welcoming. They take your “family” pets to the back to do shots and nail trimming. During this time all you hear is crying pets!! It’s so sad and extremely unwelcoming. I handed the staff the vet records from my previous vet and they were extremely lost as to what was needed upon arrival. When handing me back my vet files they also gave me files that belonged to another customer!! They were very unorganized. I will not be going back.
This place has been great until recently. Theres a new doctor that looks like hes of Indian ethnicity. He is working with an expired DEA license which prevents him from prescribing control substances. My dog takes seizure medication which is a control substance. He basically told me, oh we can put him on a different medication that has less side effects. This medication was not a control substance but did lump my dogs head and caused him to have a swollen face. We told him we need him back on his regular medication. Ive been getting the run around all week. They told me, Oh we sent Walgreens the script order. Called Walgreens and they told me they got nothing. They confirmed that they never got a call from Vet Express. So be careful if you choose them for care.
Love they have walk-in hours and open on the weekends.
Excellent experience. They took the time to make sure I knew exactly what I would be paying for each service. They called the check up on my dog following the appointment. You cant beat the price of the vaccines for life program.
This place right here is absolutely the best hands down!! I mean from the atmosphere to the staff and right down to the veterinarian care is just amazing!! I have never been to an establishment that makes you feel right at home from the very beginning! My husband and I arrived at 9am once they opened and although the vet had other appointments they were more than happy to see our golden retriever Kaiden. He had been attacked by 2 pit bulls and was in need of serious attention as his leg was badly infected. Amberly and Ajah were so welcoming and so caring to our Kaiden and us as well!! These 2 wonderful ladies made this visit everything I could have hoped for and we will definitely be back! I wholeheartedly recommend vetXpress to everyone because they are professional, caring, informative, and most importantly they treat you like family! Thank you to the whole Team for being there!!
This clinic has been sold and the new staff does not appear to care about the customer. I was checking in the phone rang and instead of picking it up the worker lets it ring. I told her its fine if you want to answer that she said it doesnt matter they can just leave a message.Well since then I have tried to call them for 3 days and each time the mail box is full. So much for leaving a message. The vet was ok but seemed a little afraid of my dog. I would no longer recommend them and will be looking for a new vet.
Had a great experience at VetXpress. Dr. Ereio was friendly and professional and very kind to my pup. His staff was great too. My dog needed his shots updated, and the prices were very reasonable for vet care. Glad I found him!
Unbelievable. Never had a negative experience until Sat., Oct. 13th. Scheduled a dental cleaning for my chihuahua at their request. I was there at 9am as scheduled but the place was locked. Shortly a tech and the Vet showed up. I should have bolted then! I dropped of my dog. Since they close at noon, I called at 11:30 to check on her. I was put on hold...... and forgotten about. I drive to Vet Express, walk in and ask the girl at the desk if she had anybody on “hold” and she said yes. I told her that would be ME!!!! 25 min. had passed. The girl then told me they were short staffed and my dog had not been seen yet! I said I’ll just take her home...... but wait...... they had stuck her with the IV catheter so I let them proceed as I didn’t want to stick her again another day. She only weighs 4.6 pounds! They handed her to me very shortly after the sedation with her tongue hanging out, glassy eyes and shaking. I sat with her in the lobby wrapped in a towel talking to her until she recognized me. The Vet left for the day leaving one vet tech and girl at the desk who said she had been there for 4 days. What if my dog had breathing issues, or had a seizure post operatively with no Vet in the building? By the way, I asked for the results of her heart worm test that was due to be done during her regular checkup earlier in the week. Oh, it was never done!!! Really???? Bottom line DONT GO HERE!
Not at all into the laid back staff taking forever to do simple tasks and prolonging my visit. There is nothing express about this. Bunch of women yapping about nothing and in no hurry to take care of paying customers in a reasonable time. Yes they are friendly but friendly doesnt mean efficient.
Absolutely nothing about this place since new management took over is recommended. My pup was recently seen for what we thought was a UTI and after labs we found hes diabetic. We were counseled in the office on administration of insulin and ordered the insulin standing in the office that day. It was a week before the approval was submitted so the medication could be shipped. Once we recieved the medication, we called to receive dosing instructions. After no call back, I called again and spoke with the doctor. While speaking with the doctor and trying to get the correct dosage, the doctor became very agitated and ultimately hung up on me. I had to call the Short Pump office to obtain the information. Due to the above issues I have decided to take my pup elsewhere. I called to get a copy of his records and was very specific for vaccine records as well as all office notes. I recieved office notes with labs but no vaccine record nor office note confirming diagnosis of diabeties or treatment plan. I called today and spoke with the doctor who would have his assistant send to me yet asked for no phone number, fax number nor email and only had my pups first name. So, I called Short Pump and was promised the records by the end of the day and you guessed it, nothing recieved. So I currently have a pup, on insulin, still experiencing the same issues and this doctor and company could care less! I have an appointment with a new vet (which is why I wanted the records) but Im sure now my pup will have to endure the testing again as well as I will have to pay for it all AGAIN...No way in hell would I ever recommend this place to anyone!!

I love vet xpress bec they are very nice and they where worried about my dog and they have no problems with her and they say shes very sweet at lest when she has problems they act fast they always call to see if shes ok and how shes doing and they always give me the right stuff for her
The rudest customer service I have ever had with a vet. Blamed us for not knowing the side effects of a bordatella shot and said we are responsible for paying for another vet visit if we want to visit and make sure everything is okay.

Took my cat, Moonbay for a check-up and vaccinations. Staff was so friendly and accommodating! Moonbay was a bit difficult, as she is strictly a house cat and does not like unfamiliar surroundings. However, they were very patient and dealt with her very well. The veternarian was very helpful in explaining things and had a great sense of humor. Not to mention, they were reasonably-priced...did not attempt to provide unnecessary services. Great place! We will most definitely be returning. Thank you, VetXpress!!!
