Steve helped me resolve 2 water damage claims with my insurance company. I mistakenly thought that being open and accessible to the insurance company from the start would help me get a fair settlement. How wrong could I be!Their initial settlement offer which took 3 months from the date of the first claim, would not even come close to making the repairs on my condo. Thats when Steve got involved, and thats when my life got much better.Steves expertise in dealing with insurance companies shone through. He prepared his own estimate for the water damage and mold repairs. He submitted it to the insurance company. Initially they rejected his estimate, I couldnt believe it, but Steve is tenacious, he kept on them for another 6 weeks and finally they offered me another $10,000. The fact that they offered me more showed me that they had knowingly low-balled their first offer.I was feeling happier, but Steve wasnt. He said that the offer still wouldnt cover the repairs. Also they would want me to sign a release, meaning that I would not be able to go back and reopen the claim if anything else came up during the repair process. So he persevered.I think I would have given up at this point 5 months in, but not Steve, he escalated my case up the chain of command several levels, until finally after 2 more months they agreed to settle the claim for an additional $30,000. (By the way, it only takes this long because of the insurance companys inability to return phone calls and emails).I was overjoyed. The total settlement turned out to be the exact cost it would take to repair my condo properly. Finally I had received a fair settlement.Steve is a superstar. He is very professional and communicates the status of the claim clearly throughout the process.My take away from this experience was this .... In the event of a claim dont bother calling your insurance company first, they dont have your best interests at heart. Instead call Advocate Claims first.
