I wanted to re-gear my 2020 Tacoma with 4.88 Nitro gears. I spoke with the folks at Nitro-Gear and since I live in Reno, the drive to their shop in Cashmere, WA for a re-gear would be impractical. I asked Nitro-Gear for a recommendation on where in or near Reno to get this done. They recommended Hunters 4x4. I began to discuss what I wanted with Derrick and we went back and forth on email with information and options ending with a quote and eventually an appointment to get the work done. Super speedy on returning my emails. He had originally told me that it would be a two day job and I had planned accordingly. Their professional staff worked so efficiently to get my job done in one day. They take the time to do their own test drive and make sure it rides correctly and then even put it back on the rack after the test drive to give it one final look over. I came back and they answered all the questions I had regarding the break-in and gear oil specs even if I had to ask them a few times to make sure I understood fully. Their patience, professionalism, superior customer service, and quality, efficient work deserves nothing less than a 5 star review. Definitely worth the drive from out of town to get the work done!

Hunters is a great shop for folks with a custom 4x4. In my case, I have a Toyota whose previous owner that mixed Ford & Chevy parts into the build, but there is no documentation for what is what. They have been helpful over the phone and in person, I would not hesitate to use this shop.

I was not very happy with my experience at hunters 4x4. The work they did was good but they could use some better customer service. To start off they were terrible about informing me to when my axel was going to be done. I had them put an arb in a Dana 44 and It took them almost 3 weeks to have it done. I would understand if I brought them my Jeep but I just brought them a axle they didn’t have to remove it and it still took them that long. They also threw away the gears that where in the axel or at least that is was they told me they might have resold them but hunters did want to give them back even when I asked multiple times. I will not be going back to hunter anytime soon. These guys are kinda shady.
