Can you put a price on the life of your beloved family pet, the one who has been with you for years and whom youve given so much love and affection? No? Well these people sure as hell can, do not expect to be shown anything but the door unless you start making it rain hundreds on the staff here.I know for a fact that It cannot cost $2000 to give a cat a saline IV for 72 hours, but if thats what your animal needs, thats what it will cost at a minimum. God help you if your pet needs any significant treatment and your last name is not Bezos.

My spouse and I are extremely thankful for valley oaks after they saved our fur baby. We called several vets, who did not prioritize by emergency, and advised to book us 10 days out—even after advising of the serious issue at hand. Dr. Smith assisted us along the way with several different options we could take. She answered our questions throughly and made sure our 🐕 was in the best care. Overall, things turned out well and we were so happy to bring our baby home. PS our dog swallowed this toy and they were able to do a painless procedure to assist him.

We had to put down our beloved dog and they responded immediately and allowed us to come in that night. We really appreciated their level of urgency and care towards us and our dog. Our visit was prioritized due to the nature of our visit. We really appreciated what they did for us and how they handled it. 💖 Thank you guys for helping Snickers cross the rainbow bridge peacefully.

Took my dog here for an emergency visit for a huge abscess on his face. The gave me antibiotics pain meds and a dental appointment to get his teeth removed. They did a fantastic job on the surgery and he is just about fully recovered right around the 2 week mark they even called me a few days after the surgery to make sure he was eating alright and recovering well... great vet

My beloved dog was bitten by a rattle snake on a Saturday, there were no local vets handling emergencies in our area, so we drove the two hours to Chico to this fraud of an animal hospital. My boy stayed over night and our bill was $2900. As far as we could tell, nothing was done, except a fentynal patch was put on his leg. We begged for the labs, so we could take him to a better Vet but they were never given. Our new Vet, who was amazing, had to do all new labs and surgery to save my boys life. He is appalled a the treatment my boy received here, as were we. Thankfully we found a real vet who isnt in the business of money grubbing and he actually helped my boy heal. These people should be closed down as they arent in the business of saving lives. They are only concerned with collecting money. I regret every penny I spent here. Take your pets anywhere but here. I intend to file a formal complaint that will lead to an audit. These people are vile.

Earlier in the day you must wait with your animal, but I came just before 5pm, and they let me drop off. They called me a few hours later when he was done.Walk in before 5pm is $140Walk in on weekends or after 5pm is $225

I dont generally leave reviews but after seeing what VCA did for our girl Xayah I wanted to share. My doggy needed a very specific surgery on her knees that we were lucky enough to find a Veterinarian Surgeon at VCA that could do it! They were very upfront with us the whole time and gave us time to get everything together before the surgery. Caroline was extremely helpful in scheduling and informing us about the surgery, all of the people at the front test were also helpful in answering our questions and making sure we got help. Dr.Speena did a amazing job and the area is now healing well! She did get an infection but as soon as we went in for it Dr.Speena was willing to help and it cleared up quickly. Not to mention he was willing to help us over the phone and email for any problems. The surgery was pricey (not much more then other vets tho), which I see is a huge complaint about VCA but in my opinion it is worth it. Great care and great results! My dog is finally happy again!

After my experience with valley oak and now reading some of these reviews I feel I need to leave mine! Everyone here was absolutely amazing, even when I was blubbering like a big baby because my dog was sick and I didn’t know what was wrong, they were all so compassionate and took my concerns seriously. Both doctors and all of the staff I spoke with did their best to make sure I understood his condition and the costs of everything they needed to do to save my dogs life. My dog is my baby and I would do anything and pay anything to save him. I would highly recommend this vet to anyone with an emergency need. They did everything in their power to save my baby and now he is home and will recover because of their effectiveness in treating my baby. Yes the wait was a little long and yes it was very expensive but I don’t care. They were amazing and saved my boy.

This clinic is run like the huge corporation it is. You rarely see the same vet twice and they keep pushing you to buy their products from dog food to flea remedies which all come with highly inflated prices and are not good. During the pandemic they dont let you come in with your pet. My dog is very allergic to wheat. The tiniest bit will make her itch until she is raw and crying for two weeks. I tell them not to give her any of the biscuits but they do anyway because I am not able to be with her to stop them. Im done. Im going to find a vet who knows me and my dog personally and who treats us with kindness and respect rather than a means to an end.

They would not take a kitten who was suffering beyond belief and euthanize her. I was paying so that wasnt the issue The kitten struggles to take every breath and is flailing about because she is so severely ill. She is crying when she can gather her strength. She has a deformed paw too. They say they wont see her because she is a stray. Tehama county does not deal with people in Corning city limits and I live in Corning. I have no where else to go. I guess she will suffer until she dies. They dont care. Its terrible to watch. I love their humanity...or lack thereof.

Customer service, extreme attitude, and mean, denied service for a sick puppy. My partner was willing to wait 6 hours in the parking lot and then they told him they couldn’t see him because they reached a maximum of clients for the day. Came in at 9:30am to check in, they said they would be out in a few minutes, waited till 10:30 to call from the parking lot, they said it would be 1.5-2 hours, so I went home planning to come back by then. They called me at 11:32, asking me if I happened to still be in the parking lot. Said since I wasn’t there they would let one person in front of me while I drove over. Got there and stayed in the parking lot until 12:50pm, called and asked how long the wait would be, and politely because I really didn’t mind waiting as I understand that priority can change quickly. The woman was so rude saying “well we called you two hours ago and you weren’t in the parking lot” so I went over what happened and she continued to give me attitude saying two people were now ahead of me, which was also fine. The part that was inappropriate was the woman with extreme attitude within a two minute conversation. Trying to tell me “how it goes” when I already knew that part, I just wanted to know the expected wait time. It didn’t sit right with me, how I was treated. Especially since I went out of my way to not be upset at all this morning. decided to call back and let one of the staff members know has I was treated, she seemed nice at first, understanding the reason why I didn’t want to come back and that my partner would return and pay the higher fee to be seen later. She also asked for his name. My partner was told a 6 hour wait which again, we were fine with, but then we realized that was a tactic to try to deviate us from coming in. My partner arrived and called to check in when they said they reached a maximum capacity for clients for the day, when it’s a 24 hour vet... then of course, with attitude she said “you want the number for somewhere in sacramento” and when my partner said no she said “good luck” and hung up on him. This place has no morals.

I had several similar horrendous experiences of other posts. First, the $225 just to be seen, because of course, It was after 5 pm. Then, when I dropped him off, I was told it would be about an hour before kitty could be seen. An hour and a half later after not hearing from them, I called and was told he was the next to be seen and shouldn’t be more than another hour at most. After 3 1/2 hours ( and still not hearing anything from them) I called back and was told he was now third to be seen, as other animals where a priority. At this point, they could not commit to any time frame when they could see my cat. I felt it best to bring him home and call another vet in the morning. After I got him home, the towel in his carrier was wet from pee and he was voraciously thirsty.

I had the worst experience I have ever had with a veterinary clinic at this hospital, I mean absolutely treacherous! My dog was attacked by another dog at the park in Chico, I took my dog to this clinic to have his two lacerations stapled and mended. They told me that my dog was going to be seen soon and took my dog. Then after my dog being there for over 3 1/2 hours my dog was finally seen. I got a call from the parking lot from a vet letting me know that my dog was going to be cleaned and given a set of staples. During this 3 1/2 hours my dog sat in a room in pain with no medication, by himself. Someone could have called me so I could have been with him, not led me to believe he was being seen....After the total 5 hours that my dog was being treated they never once gave my dog pain medication! A young girl walked my dog out from the vet with a leash around his neck that was literally on top of his staples! He was crying! I asked her why she would put the leash on him if he had staples there and she replied It wasnt on him longIS THIS A JOKE?!!! MY DOG HAS FRESH STAPLES AND YOU PUT A LEASH AROUND HIS NECK, ON HIS WOUND, WHILE HE IS CRYING??I WAS BESIDE MYSELF. WHEN I ASKED ABOUT WHEN WAS THE NEXT TIME I COULD GIVE HIM PAIN MEDICATION SHE SAID AS SOON AS POSSIBLE WE HAVENT GIVEN HIM ANY YET! THE BILL WAS $420 DOLLARS YOU COULD HAVE GIVEN MY DOG PAIN MEDICATION.MY DOG HAS BEEN TRAUMATIZED ALL NIGHT, HE HAS BEEN CRYING AND WILL NOT LEAVE MY SIDE. THEY LEFT HIM IN A ROOM WHILE THE FRONT DESK STAFF SAT ON THEIR PHONES....THIS PLACE IS DISGUSTING

It’s been 3 months since the death of my cat, but I still think I need to write a review for others to be aware of this place. I lost my beloved cat in January. He was an amazing boy and only 3 years old. I came to the hospital because my cat was running a fever. They said the cause was an unknown origin. I decided to take him home and give him the antibiotics needed. As soon as I put him in the car I could hear his voice was raspy (not a symptom he had when we first arrived). I thought nothing of it because I thought it was due to him being sick and still running a low fever. During the night he still didn’t seem better and the raspy voice wasnt going away so I brought him back to the hospital the following day. They decided to do X-rays and told me he had pneumonia. Of course doctors change every shift so the next day a new doc came and instead of it being pneumonia it was bronchitis. Another day passed and a new doc came in. This time she said that my cat had an episode and wasn’t breathing right so she decided to redo a chest X-ray. Well turns out he now all of a sudden he has a COLLAPSED TRACHEA. This is super rare in cats and there was nothing anyone can do anymore. I want to say what a horrible job the hospital did. Not only did they not notice he wasn’t breathing right when I first took him home, they did a horrible diagnosis! And when he passed oh boy the staff where complete sh*t. They were super disrespectful and laughing as I came in to hug my deceased cat. They also made a comment because we didn’t arrive in our fancy bright car but came in a hatchback. Like are you kidding me? I hate this place and will never bring any animal here. I’ll rather drive to Davis where they even have the equipment to treat my animals. PS they didn’t even have equipment to do the surgery for my beloved cat and because like I said, it was too late when they found out he had a collapsed treacherous, I couldn’t even drive him to the Davis hospital because he was in an oxygen tank. Also, we decided to cremate our cat through the hospital to make it easy... we didn’t get him for a whole month! They screwed up and had to reorder the urn. Also some of the doctors sounded super uneducated. Like I get you change shifts but update me on my cat and tell word by word to the next doctor taking over what’s happening because I was told 3 different things and whenever I called for an update you had nothing. One of the doctors even said it’s common for a cat to have a collapsed trachea at 3. Like excuse me I can clearly do better research that you and no it is not. There only a handful of cases out there! And didn’t tell me a 3 year old cat isn’t healthy! F this place

My dog got sick and I couldn’t get into any other Vet in town for weeks out. I was reluctant to go to this Vet because of some of the reviews here, but I didn’t have much choice. So we went and called from the parking lot, which is a policy due to Covid. It took longer than I enjoyed waiting, but probably not as long as a trip to the human emergency room. All told it was three hours and under $300 to get him seen including his medicine. Everyone I dealt with was great. I don’t usually write reviews but given the wide range of reviews for this business and the fact they are the only choice for emergency animal care I figured I’d weigh in. Valley Oak amputated my Golden Retriever’s front, left leg and scapula after he had been hit by a truck while in his previous owner’s care. I was a *very* broke college student at the time and I didn’t qualify for Care Credit. Not only did they do an incredible job with the surgery (8 years later my dog is still so happy, healthy, and gets around wonderfully on one front leg at the age of 13) but they worked with me as far as making payments. The cost of the entire bill was about $2,200, which I thought was very reasonable considering they’re an emergency vet and my dog was 70 pounds (Anesthesia ain’t cheap!). It’s also a big chunk of money for a broke 20 year old to take on, but they were so kind to work with me. They took half of the payment prior to the surgery and then they allowed me to make monthly payments for the remainder of the bill, in which I was able to pay off fully in a 6 month period. I understand this was some time ago and my review is long overdue, BUT it just shows what incredible doctors they have. I’ve never seen a more clean and precise amputation on a dog or any other animal. Thank you Valley Oak for saving my dog’s life many years ago! You helped improve his quality of life and my family will always be incredibly grateful for you! He’s become quite the avid swimming tri-pawd :)

We were skeptical about this vet because of how expensive minor procedures have been/seemed in the past and the very long wait times. When our large, senior dog started having hard, gasping breaths that were progressively worse we brought him in because it was, clearly, an emergency. This is an emergency vet, and they got right to work saving him. He was put on a 24 HR stay with oxygen. They called us consistently to let us know what was happening, the good and bad, and their plan of action as they did tests, x-rays, an ECG, etc. It was truly an emergency situation, and they did an amazing job stabilizing him and helping us understand what was happening and what he needs to survive and thrive in his condition. I also feel that the price they quoted and charged was extremely fair, considering all they did for our dog and us.

My husband and I are in Extreme Emotional Distress! For Good Reason!!! Ive taken my cat here 3 times in the last year and a half. 6 months ago for a Hematoma, the total cost was just under $500.00! Last night I went again, with the same issue on my cats other ear, and with the same faith & hope I can afford it again. Somehow in the last 6 months, the price of the Same Exact Procedure went to $1200.00+! I was unable to help my kitty cat. I made them pull up my last visit/ vet bill and demand they give me answers, and there wasnt one. I visited the same day and same hours as the last time I went 6 months ago. Everything was 100% the same!!Everything was exactly the same! Why was it so much more? Because prices went up? $700 more in the last 6 months? How is this justified?I still had to pay $200.00 for the exam, and was told he had ear mites. Why they couldnt tell me that in prior visits? I could of stopped this from happening again. On top of that I have 2 other cats.. They werent even helpful in a quest to find over the counter Ear Mite meds, I asked where I could find it? If Walmart had any, They told me No.. I have to pay for each one to go to the vet and get it done to them. I know in my heart this would upset anybody! I have a right to be upset, as anyone would be.The wait time is hours on top of so much disappointment. Im on a quest to find help else where while my cat suffers in pain and I now have $200 less on my care credit to help him in another clinic. How is this justified? Do you really care about your animals that visit here? Or their owners? My husband got teary-eyed, when they told me I should think about surrendering our cats or try Go Fund Me! I just lost my Dad, the last member of my family, my cats are all I have left in the world outside my husband.Extreme Emotional Distress.. My mother and I took a long drive up to Chico and unfortunately my bunny did not make it to the vet hospital before passing. I was hesitant to go inside at all because my bunny was already gone but my mom insisted we go inside anyways. The man at the front desk had so much empathy and was very kind. The vet took our baby back anyway to see if there was anything she could do. Unfortunately our bunny ended up having bladder cancer but it was almost reassuring knowing that it was inevitable and there was nothing we could do. The vet was very kind as well and did not charge us for our visit. Although it was a terrible night Valley Oak was a great help and we are so thankful they there there. About a week later we received a very nicely written condolence card from the vet and staff. All 3 times I took my cats down there, I thought for sure they would never return home due to the severity of the injuries and illness. All 3 times Valley Oak and their amazing team of vet techs, vets, and surgeons have gone above and beyond to save a furry family member.People complaining about sticker shock during a medical emergency for their pet need to understand that Valley Oak provides almost the same level of care that you as human would receive at a hospital ER. We took our dog here while she was having a severe seizure. I called ahead and was told they would need $500 up front, and they would have a gurney waiting for her when we arrived. We agreed to the payment over the phone. But when we got there - our dog was in complete total severe seizure in our truck- they refused to bring the gurney out until they ran our debit card! Just completely callous when we had agreed to the charge already and our dog was in severe condition. We were then told the charge for her stay - an overnight “hospital plan”, which included all of her care, blood work, and everything, would be a total of $1700. We agreed to the price. We were even told it would be less than that if we picked her up before 24 hours. They then demanded that we pay 75 percent of that charge, which we paid. When we went to pick her up less than 24 hours later, they had jacked the price up to 2100 dollars! They gave us no reason for the increased cost and pretended they knew nothing about the price we were specifically quoted the night before! Bottom line - DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE. Get the price in writing because they will deny knowing anything about it! These vets are in it for a profit, they don’t care about your pet!

So I brought my dog in yesterday due to a pitbull attack and they didn’t even look at her for 4 hours and then it took another 2 hours to actually stitch her up. I dropped her off around 4 and didn’t get her back till 10 at night. They then sent me on a wild goose chase for meds and after calling several pharmacies they were the only ones that had them stocked. So I drove back over there around 11 because they said that she needed to be on them and it took me another half hour along with several calls to get them to run the meds to my car. I am still trying to get them because they quoted she has to start them that night but they are taking their sweet time to get them to me. They won’t return my calls they are unprofessional and they are way overpriced and they run on their time not yours. It has taken me 2 days to get a hold of them to try and get meds and even with the reassurance that they will give me a call back when the meds were filled I never got a callback from them. I finally got a call from them saying they were filled late the next night and gave them a call in the morning to see if I could pick them up and they said they didn’t have them anymore so I gave up and went to Costco to fill her prescriptions. When I did happen to get someone on the phone they would put me on hold for 10 to 15 minutes and if someone was unavailable to talk they were just transfer me to a voicemail. Finally today I got a hold of someone asking thumb to send me a copy of the bill because I never got one and they said they sent it over and was very rude on why I didn’tReceive one and they rechecked the email address I gave them and then they apologized saying whoever wrote down your email got it wrong. All in all I had a terrible experience here and highly do not recommend this place unless you are in urgent need and even then be prepared to wait hours upon hours.

When she returned to my call she said to come in, the doctor is on duty and can perform an emergency c-sectionI drove from my home in Orland which is about 30 minutes away from Valley Oak.I had also called my vet in Folsom where a c section was scheduled for the following day and was advised to go to the local vet since it was 1.5 hrs drive closer and would be less risky. At Valley Oak vet in Chico I was advised by Dr. Howarth, who examined my dog, that she was not in labor yet and told to keep her appointment for tomorrow. This was after I called prior to the appointment to see if a doctor was on duty to perform an emergency c section.A week prior it was confirmed by xray that my dog had only one very large puppy and would definitely require a c section.Because I did not immediately travel to Folsom, and instead went to Valley Oak and then waited to be told by Dr. Howarth that he was not going to perform a c section, I then had to travel the extra time and distance to Folsom, where an emergency c section was performed and the puppy could not be resuscitated due to being stuck for awhile in the birth canal. My female dog was in labor and because of Dr. Howarths negligence her only puppy died.Had Dr. Howarth at Valley Oak, performed the necessary c section and not advised me that my female was not in labor, when she clearly was in labor, the outcome could have been much better and the death of her puppy and possible injury to my female could have been avoided.I contacted Valley Oak after the vet in Folsom, who performed the c section stated that the time frame was a factor in the death of the puppy. If I had avoided Valley Oak things would have turned out better, as I was told by the Valley Oak veterinarian that the puppy had a good heart beat but was facing in a feet first position.I have requested a statement from the vet I saw in Folsom and hope that Valley Oak does not elimimate or change any of their records after I called and made a complaint about their negligence and malpractice.I am insulted and disgusted by the gross negligence of Dr. Howarth who said my dog was not in labor. How can a medically trained and licensed professional be so completely ignorant and careless.DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR PETS LIVELIHOOD IN AN EMERGENCY!

Printed out wrong information on my 3 dogs . Puppies, and I had to go back, they reprinted it and it was wrong again. One helper was rude to me, and I had to chase her from the car to the door and I1 hour later corrected by Supervisor . I wonder if vetinerian who is canines my digs even had breed correct because they had wrong information for vet.when I arrived home it was still incorrect information referring to my dog breed as Pomeranians when they were Pekingese. I needed information to be correct as these digs were getting ready fir new owners . I called back again and became so frustrated with their lack of caring . ( supervisor at VCA was more concerned about cost if three puppies seperate be a puppy pack and correcting that end of things vs what I ask fir . Also the Vetinarian .who examined these three beautiful dogs referred to them as having a underbite ( well hello Pekingese gave u services. But if the paperwork would if stated Pekingese when vet did their wellness checks perhaps she would if known what she was examining! I told them these dogs were nit Pomeranians. This vet hospital literally saved my dogs life. He would not be alive if it was not for the fast acting well educated staff. When my dog got into rat poison when we moved into our new house that the old tenants had left. After taking him to a local vet twice they literally had no idea what was wrong, on Thanksgiving day we had to take our 4 month old black lab puppy In for emergency care, he was bleeding from his nose and peeing blood, they immediately knew what was wrong and acted fast and aggressively to save him. It was expensive but it was worth every penny, our dog DJ is literally thankful every day, hes the happiest guy and im glad we have a place like this to give our pets a chance i have had other emergencies these people have handled over the years with other pets and they have always been top notch when communicated clearly and as calm as possible so they can do their job.

I have had several experiences with VCA that led me to making them my primary pets care. First I had a cat that got in a fight when he snuck out of the house.. they patched him up at 3AM! I decided to try out their Avian services and brought my cockatoo in for her annual check up. The vet was very good with birds, and had a great experience! And lastly I had an emergency in my home and needed to board my cockatoo asap just over night. They took her in no problem and were kind and understanding when I called to check on her that night. Only thing I would say.. if you are boarding your bird.. bring them toys and food. I brought my birds food but forgot her toy!

We took our 8 week old puppy here after being attacked by a dog. I was very frantic but the staff was very nice and reassuring. The doctor was awesome and talked me through everything, I left her there overnight and left feeling more at ease. The doctor called after her surgery to let me know that everything went well, he was great! I was able to go to sleep feeling very hopeful. We picked her up this morning and she is doing great. I’m very satisfied with the care our little, Maisie Maze, received. It was expensive, but we had expected it to be. We are just glad she’s okay. Thank you so much!

I’ve probably spent about $10k in vet care at this place. I don’t intend to stay after my puppy package expires. A secretary named Lisa really needs to take a sensitivity training for dealing with disabled clients, she was incredibly rude and made me feel like less of a person for having a disorder that affects my memory. I used to really like this place after they saved my dog during an emergency, but lately they seem to care less and less and the people answering the phones act like you’re a huge nuisance to them. If you need a one time emergency care because absolutely no one else is open, sure they’ll do a decent job and charge you an arm and a leg for it. But if you have another option, I would definitely recommend that.

I am heartbroken. My neighbors dog died in my arms last night while I sat in the parking lot of this vet hospital for 45 minutes waiting for someone to come look at her.I called before making the 25 minute drive to advise them of the situation. I was told to call them back when I arrived. I called upon my arrival gave more info and was told someone would come out to the car shortly. There was one other car in the parking lot, no one came for us. After 30 minutes of waiting I called back and asked how long was it going to take to get someone out to check on this dog? The staff had changed due to a meal break and she seemed confused as to what I needed. I explained, once again I was told someone would be out shortly. The dog passed about 10 minutes later as the technician was walking out the door to see her. I asked her where should I have taken this dog for an emergency? I thought this was an emergency vet hospital. The sad truth is this is the only emergency vet clinic for Shasta, Tehama and Butte counties.I would never recommend this vet clinic ever! They should have come out to triage the animal when I got there. If they had she might have lived. Shame on you!

I am the owner of the dog that our friend and neighbor Tina Farmer brought in as an emergency while my husband & I were on vacation. She too wrote a review of her experience of that night. When we got the call about our girl being hurt my husband hit the road to get to the vet office to meet our dog and friend. While on the way he called the vet office to inform them of her condition and that she was coming in with our friend. He gave them our credit card number at that time as well. Tina had also called on her way there, again when she arrived as they instructed and again after a 30 minute wait. Only to continue the wait. Our fur baby died in our friends arms waiting. There were 4 calls into your office. What determines an emergency? Why didn’t someone come out to triage the situation with her on arrival? Also if some one tells a patient or family that they were at lunch as the person did that night.... Don’t you have someone to cover lunches? I know as an RN that we don’t go to lunch and leave patients unattended. Could our dog have lived that night? We’ll never know. I do know that we will never return to your facility for treatment. To add insult to injury. 2 days later I find out that a $200.00 charge to my card was made... FOR WHAT? Letting my dog die in a parking lot waiting to be treated for 45 minutes? My husband was furious and called and demanded the charge be removed. It was but will take 5-10 days. So again we’ll be waiting on you.On another note. 2+ years ago we brought the same dog in that started having seizures. We were told she needed to be put down. We decided to opt out of that advice and wait it out until morning to see our primary vet at a different location. She disagreed, put her on meds and she continued to thrive seizure free until her injury the other night when she died waiting on your care.

It was a Saturday so with limited places opened we came to Valley Oak because they said they would take us right away when we arrived. They even asked us to pay in advance so we could go in right away. When we arrived they said they would be right out. When we called after waiting awhile, and asked them to please be honest about how long it would be, the receptionist didn’t like how direct my mom was being and how she was frustrated so she proceeded to hang up on my mom. This past May I brought my two year old german shepherd Charles to Valley Oak after he suddenly took Ill. His regular vet was unavailable. Because e the pandemic I had to wait in the car while they took Charles in. About two hours later the vet contacted me by phone and started to tell me he believed Charles hip problem was due to his weight. I tried to explain that I bought him in because his side was very painful, he was limping and not eating. The vet responded that he could x-ray Charles hip. I told him again it wasnt his hips but to please take a full set of x-rays especially if the side causing him pain and to do blood work as well. Long story short, x-rays were negative but the blood work was sent out(an emergency animal hospital doesnt have an on-site lab!!?? Seriously!?) I brought Charles home he contii to worsen, I called Valley Oak told them what was going on and asked what I could do? I thought he was agitated because of pain. They told me I could give him a gabapentin and he he wasnt better to bring him in for a recheck in the morning. Charles was dead in the morning. After calling Valley Oak telling them what happened I wanted to know about his lab work. It wasnt until late afternoon the next day one of the vet returned my call offered his condolences and told me that from his lab work it looked like Charles had encephalitis. Charles died one week before his third birthday. Honestly I dont know if anything could have been done to save him this took him so fast. What I do know is that no one listened to me and for a 24 hour emergency animal hospital not to have an on-site lab is beyond my comprehension. I will never trust them with one of my beloved pets again.

My poor Chihuahua Angel Baby unfortunately has gastritis and has every terrible symptom including horrible bleeding. After she was seen by a different vet I was driving home and Wham! She was bleeding profusely. I called VCA back explained what was happening and took her back and I wanted a different doctor. Dr. Donor’s recommendation was to leave her over night so she can have IV fluids and be monitored. Today after speaking with Dr. Donor, Angel Baby is doing much better but still needs IV fluids until later this afternoon. Angel and I are visiting my brother in Paradise when we’re from Sonora...... the 4hr drive may have made her tummy upset. Every pet parents worst nightmare is having to take their pet into a different vet...... Angel is my daughter.... she’s all I have and is my life! She was bleeding so bad that I was terrified of losing her. Dr. Donor kept me thoroughly updated and has a wonderful and calming demeanor. Not only did they want $2500 up front to hold him per 24 hours offering no payment plans ( who has that kind of money upfront during this pandemic?!) but they recommended that he could be and was stable enough taken to another vet clinic if we could not afford it. Our sweet baby died 3 hrs later while waiting for the clinic to open, did not even have time to euthanize him. He suffered in the worst of ways. These people do not look at your animals as family members, they are paychecks. If you love your animal like a family member I do not recommend a place that places $$$ over care. I went into the vet about 10 time while he was there. Every time I went in, no one rembered who I was or why I was there. I was devistated and crying every time and recieved no compassion from the people in the front. I was not the only one going in, my daughter and son and husband were going in as well for four days. They still did not remeber who we were or why we were there. The Vets that did this gave the cat care over to another Vet who was asking ME what I wanted to do? i dont know, im not a vetranarian. Then that vet gave it over to yet another vet. this Vet said that the cat would no make a recovery and to put it down. So after four days of torment I took him out and brought him home. The dr who called with an update was thorough and went into great detail about my cats condition and future recommendations. One time my dog had a massive ear infection and fluid was literally flying out of her ears when she would shake and after a hour of waiting I asked how much longer it might be and she said it’s going to be at least another 2 hours and I flipped a lid ranting about my dogs pain and how she should have told me when I first checked in that the wait was going to be 3 hours or more. I ended up leaving and going somewhere else who had us in a room with medication in her ears within 5 minutes of being in the building. They are also completely crazy when it comes to charging you. I also took my cat in with a very expensive canvas carrier that had pockets for his food, treats, and blanket and when I picked up my cat they handed him back in a box and when I asked about my carrier they said they didn’t have it. I didn’t understand how that could happen considering it also had all his belongings in it. And so I here I thought he was comfortable with his blanket and they had him in a box. Maybe they do have good vets. I wont know. I ended up walking out as my pup and I were both restless and had enough. The eh, whatever atmosphere the front desk created reflects on the people who run this place and its a place that felt liked they dont really care, theyll be another pet to take my pets place. This being my first experience, with any vet, was not a good one.

We took our dog Zoe in to Oak Valley late one night and she and we were given only the best of care. Unfortunately, she was not well at all and we had to put her down a couple days later. However the two veterinarians who took care of Zoe as well as the technicians who took care of me were all extremely kind and caring. I appreciate all they did for zoe and for me. They are very compassionate and empathetic.

We took out 9 year old lab in for an emergency late one night. He was frothing at the mouth, weaving when walking, light and touch sensitive. We thought he was a goner for sure. After being helped into a treatment room ( he weighed over 100 lbs) the vet looked at him and pronounced marijuana poisoning!! We were completely floored, as we do not partake in any drug activities. I thought the vet was crazy and quickly looked it up on my phone, while my husband ( a physician) talked medical to the vet. She was SPOT ON! The exact symptoms right there on my phone. We are still mystified as how our dog got into any pot while he was touring our neighborhood, but I guess its everywhere these days. Kids thinks its funny to get a dog high, although in some cases can be fatal. Our dear dog came home an had a nice LONG nap! We were very pleased with the service and expertise that Valley Oak provided us that night.
