Had a great experience with Susanins, they bent over backwards to be accommodating when it wasnt necessary. I would buy from them again without hesitation.

Recently purchased a small painting from this auction house. I emailed about pick ups and Liz responded almost immediately. I had a delay in picking up over Thanksgiving holiday and due to covid but they were super accommodating. At pick up met briefly in person and super people. Good energy. I have followed their auctions and impressed with their inventory. After my last experience I very much look forward to doing more business with them. Oh, their location has large parking lot with loading dock for easy pick ups for small or large items.

Susanins runs very professional auctions. Their descriptions are accurate, and their staff is knowledgeable, and dedicated to excellent service. They do, however, mostly cater to arts professionals and locals who can easily walk in. Unlike many auctioneers they sell from the very high end to very low brow. If you find something you like, you will probably get a very fair deal on it. Once youve bought it, and if you are not in town, you will also have to be prepared to organize your own shipping. In house shipping, to the best of my knowledge, is not available. For those looking to sell, I can highly recommend Susanins. They take inventory starting in the low hundreds of dollars, sometimes even less, when most of the competition wont touch anything that will not sell for $1000 or more. As an art professional with 20+ years experience, I consider Susanins the best all round auction house in Chicago.

Five stars, well-deserved, for the kindness and utter professionalism of the staff.I purchased several pieces of art recently and then ended up in a strange personal circumstance. Susanins staff, Liz and Christine, were understanding, and assisted me greatly in my efforts to come and retrieve the lots.Moreover, the woman at the loading dock also went well above-and-beyond the call of duty despite not being obligated to help at all. Im sorry that I didnt get her name, but shes the gal with the sweet pink suede Vans and she made my day.Five stars, seriously. Id do business again with them in a heartbeat. I got exactly what I thought I was getting and the personal service was so kind and unexpected in todays very transactional environment.Im so happy that Im literally writing this on the interstate from Chicago to Nebraska because I didnt want to forget if life got busy. Why Auction houses have no hours for real people to pick things up is beyond logical. Esp for the buyers premiums they charge 25% - 30% on top of the hammer price but cannot offer an pick up time for real people. M-F 10am to 4pm. That is even less that Dr or banker hours. (they charge the seller 15-20% too). No service what so ever.Oh yeah they are especially rude on the phone.

I bought an antique Chinese mirror from Susanins at auction and I was very pleased and impressed that they had documented with photographs parts of the item that were worn, cracked, damaged, etc. from age. I knew exactly what I was getting and had no issues with the condition of the item when it arrived. Many auction houses disclose less than they should about the condition of the item (and are often non-responsive in providing the promised condition report on request) and dont bother to take more than one photograph - despite the fact for 20-30% commission they really should. Susanins were prompt in responding to my questions and my shipper had no issues (other auction houses have frequently treated truck drivers as second class citizens or are not open when promised) when he picked up my items. I feel you can buy from Susanins with trust.

Thieves...bought stuff from on online auction for about $100. They refused to ship the items and referred me to UPS to ship the items at a cost of $235.00. They did me a favor and donated the items, so I never received them! CROOKS!

A great location for auctions. They have all kind of valuables. Its a great experience to visit this business.

Hit and miss. Not always upfront with reports on item condition (including missing or broken pieces not shown is photos). Sometimes a good deal can be found. Other times a disappointment.

Friend bought jade here and gave it to me as a gift. When I checked it out with an expert, found out that it was green glass! A Fake! Ive heard of fake paintings being sold here as well (in the Chicago Tribune 2009). For the very high commission rate that they charge, one would expect better.

Some years ago we won an item online and even received an invoice but they refused to sell it saying I wasnt the winning bidder. They seemed very nasty about it on the phone. Their terms are very strict (basically amount to caveat emptor as well) and 30% premium for online bidding is the highest around that Ive seen.

These are unreasonable, arrogant people. They charged unreasonable storage charges when there competitors do not. Ill never have anything to do with them again.

Very poor customer service, no interest in honesty in dealing with buyers or sellers. Didnt used to be this way so I have to believe theres been a change in ownership or management. Currently they are the worst I have dealt with in my 25 years.
