This John Deere dealer on route 10 provides much better customer service than its cousin in Ashland! It happens all the time when calling the Ashland location and asking for the parts counter and the phone will ring and ring with no answer. I finally called the route 10 location and the parts counter promptly answered their extension and had the part I needed. The route 10 location isnt as convenient for me as the Ashland location, but I will make the trip there in the future to get my parts. Thanks guys!

Firstly I am doing this review on behalf of my husband. He recently had his mower serviced with JRE and it was returned. When he started the mower there was a vibration, and he could smell smoke. He immediately turned it off called JRE the next day and they picked it up. JRE called him to say that the belt was “off”. What he wonders if the mechanic did the rest of the work correctly. All was delivered, etc but just wondering. Management may need to check into this. Thank you

This place is great! My prayer time was quickly arriving while I was shopping and this nice young man (Robert, I believe) offered to hold all of my things to the side until I returned. I fully expected everything to have been re-stocked when I got back, but he was true to his word. He helped me with the rest of my purchase and got me out the door and on my way just as quick.The store was clean and well organized and had everything I needed for my tractors maintenance. Two thumbs up!!

We got there 40 minutes after they closed because Google maps said that they were open till one,when they really closed at noon. Tim Brooks opened the door and gave me literature on the tow behind leaf vac that I was interested in to go behind my John Deer lawn tractor. Since I couldnt get back till next Saturday, that was a big lifesaver! Thanks Tim!

Great branch of James River Equipment.I am a foreman for a large site work and demolition company based in Richmond. We buy most of our equipment and have it serviced with them. And whenever I need to get a part fast and get back to the job. This branch is always fast at finding it and getting me back on the job and back up and running.Highly recommend going here whether you need a new machine, parts, or need service or work done.

Today 10/29, during a tropical storm JRE destroyed 300 feet of field and driveway due to their laziness, they were asked to park on a gravel road but instead drove through a soaked muddy field to preform maintenance on a tractor. We have already gotten over an inch of rain on what is already soaked ground, this business has no regard for customers property and should not be trusted.

This store is awesome. The service staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and if they don’t know the answer they will get it. Anybody who comes here and expects to have an immediate turnaround on equipment for repair needs to be realistic and realize that their equipment is not the only equipment here. The store does a great job of keeping the customer notified of the status of their equipment.

Several years ago had the JD Chester location pretty much tune up everything on my JD Sabre 20/48. They were pricey but did a lot and did a great job. This tractor is a beast. I do maintain it well. On more then one occasion I have had a service type question. Without exception the service guy or parts guy was awesome...knowledgeable, helpful, not pushy. They were just plain good guys trying to help me out. I just called about a starter as a matter of fact. This locations service and knowledge is incredible. I would recommend them anytime.

I took my lawn mower in for repair. Found out it needed a transmission, they repaired it promptly. We picked up the mower and we had the same problem. They immediately came out picked the mower up, repaired it and delivered the mower back to us within days. I was very surprised at the prompt and professional service we received from James and the team. To top it off my transmission parts were covered in a recall. I recommend James River Equipment. Can I give them a zero? Sent gator in to be worked on. Told them to buy an new winch and install as mine was broken. Parts department said they could get it coming. Girl in service then decided that i should restring it instead so put it in the lot and let it sit for a week until she could fit it in for an estimate appointment. I was pretty clear i wanted a new one. Took another week to tell me that the winch was obsolete and had to upsale me into larger one. Called where i bought it from in another state and that John Deere dealer said they are still available and they still sell them. Took 2 more weeks to get it installed. Took 4 weeks to put on a winch that we already knew what we needed.Total incompetence I am in the market for a 60hp tractor. This convinced me to go Kabota.

I have a John Deere / Saber 1338. To my knowledge i have had it for quite sometime. But as things get older thru proper use they tend to have needs. So i researched and found this place. As I walked in the door i was greeted by everyone working there. That gave me the warm and welcomed feeling that i was among professionals. As i conducted my parts request and numerous questions. I was very impressed with the customer service, patience, and knowledge of the employees. Having an aging riding mower expect to have setbacks. But this crew, at this location. can have your machine up and running with a day or 2. No one wants the headaches of dealing with corporate rules and time lines. But this place gives you a mom and pop feel. As if your one of the family. Thank you for how you do the things you do.

Went in to purchase a lawnmower, had already done research and knew exactly what I wanted.Store opens at 730, so I’m there. Lady at the desk tells me they can’t sell me a lawnmower, only a salesman can, I asked for a manager or any of the 7 other employees to help. She said no, salesman will be here at 8am. While waiting, called there location on 460, they don’t have any.8:00am - Salesman arrives, desk lady advised him I’m here to purchase a lawnmower and I know exactly what I want. Ten minutes later, after waiting for him to put his lunch up and shoot the breeze with other employees, I left. Guy then basically chased me to the car. Told him no thanks.

I dont believe that mower service is a priority at this location. I took my Honda mower for an annual tune up and some minor maintenance (replace pull chord). I was told it would take 2 weeks when I dropped it off, but it took almost a month and a half. My calls to check on the status were not returned; when I picked up my mower it was sitting in the elements in the back of the facility. I asked to speak to the store manager when I picked it up; was told that he was not in so I asked that he call me so I could express my concern over the time it took for service.He never returned my call. I wish I would have just purchased a new pull chord online and installed it myself. While I wanted to support a locally owned business, I wont give consider them when I purchase a new mower, because of their issues with service level.

Took my John Deere riding mower in for a complete service one day and ask that they check everything (tires, oil, blades, level the cutting deck, engine & power train, and brakes).They charged me $283. Which also included cleaning. When I got home, a belt fell off. While putting it back on, I found that the guards on the pulleys were packed with dirt and grass... So much for cleaning. While cutting, I noticed one side was cutting a full inch lower than the other... So much for leveling the deck. The following week, the brakes went out. Just what am I paying for?Dont go to James River unless youre rich and just want to waste your money. Better yet, get a bumb off the street to do it. At least then your money can help someone.

Went in to purchase a mower and was met by a complete arrogant salesman..started off showing me mowers out of the range I had stated when I asked about the e series I was told they are just junk tractors we make them for home depot but they are junk . The reps hubris was just to much for me to take. I dont believe Ill be purchasing a John Deere at all now if thats the attitude I would have to deal with for servicing the tractor.....i neglected to update just never thought about it but did reach out to Matt Holland on 2 seperate occasions and never received any response...so customer service..0 stars
