Absolutely beautiful all the way around. I love how the all the flowerbeds are designed with space to walk through tall flowers. Lovely cottage garden look. The native tree trail was also stunning. Had a very furn-gully feel to it. You can really tell so much love goes into the upkeep of this place but they dont focus on making it all look commercial. Its all get a very natural old world style feel to it. Im only posting a few pictures because they really dont do the place justice.
I thoroughly enjoyed my walk along the trails and will return. This is a great spot to semi-escape the city and enjoy nature. The trails are well maintained with mulch. I came after a rain and there were no muddy puddles. You can still hear the sounds of the city (e.g., sirens and motorcycles) but the sounds of nature dominate. A great spot for a solo or family walk.
I very pleasant set of trails nestled between neighborhoods on Oak Grove near Battlefield Blvd. Parking is on the opposite side of the road from the trails. The trails are well maintained with fresh mulch which is necessary after all the rainy weather. There is a very nice camellia garden. We did not venture near the buildings on the property, but other reviews mentioned the ability to rent the gazebo for special events. There are no permanent restrooms available.
Nice park. Only walked the red and white trails but cant wait to go back and do the rest! Not stroller friendly, but a nice peaceful walk. Dont forget your bug spray or long sleeves/pants.
I went for the trails. I arrived confused, as there is an archway with a trails sign. There were no trails, but I found them across the street. Nice, winding, deep woods trails. Decently maintained, but take bug spray. That seems to be standard in the Chesapeake area.
It was nice. The dogs barking scare me that was in the back yard to one of the house that was by the trail. You can walk the trail and some path you can see the houses back yard and honestly you can walk into it. I don’t recommend. It was weird I was having a hard time breathing while walking the trail could be the start of pollen season. But nice for a city park.
Such nice trails to walk and enjoy. Its kept very clean and easy to traverse. My kids really enjoy walking here.
A fantastic place to walk with kids or pets. The area was clean and very well maintained. Beautiful and peaceful. The majority of the trails were also shaded from the sun by the tree canopy. We will 100% be going back this spring/summer for more nature! Also, if you dont like the bugs, bring some bug spray.
Walked several trails. They r nicely done. Will go again to explore more.
Actually never been here but I have driven people their a few times and they loved it 💜💜💜 it looks wonderful from the parking lot
Great venue for small weddings. The staff was very friendly and a joy to work with.Notes if booking an event. Gazebo rental includes 30 chairs. For decorating we used magnets to secure items. The gazebo is metal framed. We recommend booking the add on farm house for getting ready and definately restrooms. Ample parking and great photo spots in the grounds, especially in front of the magnolia tree beside the gazebo.
Todays adventure was the Chesapeake Arboretum. Lulu enjoyed a couple of miles of nature trails and explored some of the surrounding neighborhood. She even stopped to rest in someones front yard and a grassy spot by the car before heading home. The trails are well marked, mostly flat and the trees are marked with placards so you can bring the family for some exercise and education.
Such a tranquil little spot. It is right in the middle of a busy residential area but we still enjoy it though. The trails are nice to walk through while taking in the natural beauty and it can be a long walk if you know where youre going. Get a map by parking area. Its also pet friendly and has a doggy station with bags and trash cans for convinent disposal. We like that because our dog really loves taking walks here. They have a large gazebo and tables for picnics by the parking area too.As far as people complaining about the trees, the roots and the actual woods not being maintained. It is the woods. Period. The small creek that runs along the side of one of the trails is just that, a creek. Its going to have natural odors, from time to time, it isnt filtered so it is what it is.With all that being said, WE have thoroughly enjoyed our hikes through the Chesapeake Arboretum and its very natural beauty so thank you and our little dog thanks you too! 🐾❤️
The city is doing a great job keeping The arboretum in good shape for walking trails. My two young children had no issue walking the well-marked paths and learning basic trail navigation there. and if youre a pokémon go player there is a gym as well as many many pokestops as you walk along the paths. there are also many benches and nice places to stop and take a rest.
A nice walk with something to discover for the little ones every time.
Miles of wonderful wooded trails, historic building and masters gardens!
This was pretty trails to walk in but definitely bring bug spray.
Nice walking trails, very peaceful and great shade. Had a nice picnic after walking at the picnic tables
Needs more trails. Nice very short walk. Not long enough for a run. Very unbalanced and slippery trails as well. I slipped multiple times while walking and tripping multiple times as well. Nice green space. It is surrounded on all sides by roads and housing complexes. You can here just as much city noise as nature. Good spot for a quick break if you cant get to a bigger green space.
This place is so beautiful. I only discovered a small portion of it, but Ill be exploring much more over the coming months. Nice trails, blooming flowers. Just very scenic, which I adore!
A great place to take the family with lots of pretty trail to walk.
Great garden and walking trails! Beautiful camelias in the summer, plenty of parking and one of the best-kept secrets of Chesapeake, as far as public parks go
Very dense beautiful walking trails. Parking area gravel but old house and small barns. Picnic area and lawn.
Local greenery is always a good idea. I little more shaded compared to city park and quiet compared to oak grove. Well maintained and cool new gazebo out in!
Cool little path and some historical sites.
I loved it so many mini trails to explore! Its very easy to get lost.
Nice quiet exploration of nature. No one was there, we enjoyed ourselves reading the signs.
Beautiful nature trails. Took my son there in his stroller and was able to explore quite a bit. Cant wait until hes a little bit older so we can see the rest!
Nice and fairly quiet couple of trails to walk down with a creek that runs through the middle. Not quite as big as I was expecting, and has houses bordering it on all sides. Other than that, it was a peaceful short walk for the family and myself.
Easy to follow trails, well maintained. Beautiful scenery, very relaxing visit.
Dense woods for this area. Completely shaded trails, many varities of trees, small creek winding through with a couple of bridges on trail to cross over and enjoy.
One of Chesapeakes best kept secrets! The Arborteum has many miles of walking trails, an award winning Camellia garden (with hundreds of specimens!), all hidden right off of one of our busiest roads.
Nice park with a few easy trails. You can easily spend about an hour walking and enjoying the woods. Also has a couple of good spots for a photo session.
My sister picked up a tick. So be on the look out. Theyre out for blood!
Lovely place for a nice refreshing walk!
A beautiful little park tucked away in Chesapeake, VA. Great for walking and getting some fresh air. I love this place.
Very well kept beautiful trees and flowers. The tree stump carved chairs were awesome. Its very peaceful. Across the street are three pathways you can also walk. I loved the signs for certain trees and plants.
An overall average park. Not a whole lot of content for the kids, and for the most part it was just trails. It had a very pretty forest with plenty of little areas to explore, but truly no playgrounds. If youre family is the type for hiking, this is THE place to go. Otherwise, I do not truly recommend it.
Very nice park with hiking trails to enjoy with your family and friends
It was a really peaceful place to visit with nature and take a walk.
It was a great walk/ hike. Its weird because its like right in the middle of Chesapeake and so its surrounded by housing and neighborhoods and what not - if youre looking for a secluded spot this is not it. But besides that, the trails were nice and we got about 3-4 miles in which covered just about the whole trail. I gave it a four because Id like to of had some sort of public restroom out there.
Easy beautiful walk with option for challenge. Porapotty at entrance only
Amazing place to find some solace with nature.
Very nice for a stroll, bring your dog, paths are well kept and marked so its easy to navigate (for those that get lost easy).
Small trail, but pretty
Great. This is life in Hampton roads at its finest.
Very interesting nice place to see.
Nice hike in middle of town.
Very lovely park with trails, a small lake with a stream that feeds it. Wonderful plant life. Very family friendly.
Noce walk, a little bleak since winter. But good walk irregardless. Think spring will be better.
Interesting Arboretum Park that has 3 starting points for walking some of the nature trails around Chesapeake. Theres quite a few unusual trees with labels within the fenced-in area if youre interested, you can learn about them. It would be a great outdoor activity for your kids and/or grandchildren, theres a learning center there. Not sure what is actually up and running with the virus ongoing. There were people heading into the trails and also sitting at picnic tables eating lunch.
Very well maintained trails, feels like youre deep in the woods. Lots of bridges and a few gardens.
Beautiful place for a photo session. Even in the coldest weather the trails were filled with greenery.
This place is nice to have a picnic and to have a nice walk.
Its was pretty cool but being right behind houses kinda killed it for us.
Mosquitos ran us out
Small park but great for a quick walking adventure.
Nice trails, had trash cans, very clean and beautiful
Nice to get out and walk through nature au from the bustle
We enjoyed an hour-long walk around the arboretum grounds. What a hidden gem!
Birds, trees, sand on a creek and Tidewater plants. The best!
Nice trail
Cool quick tails. All trees are identified with markers very cool!!!
Perfect for short walks
We did the white trail it was nice weather was perfect.
This place is great for a quiet and calm walk on trails. It also has very beautiful views of a lake. A very interesting find!
Understanding this is a small area with some community trails in a slightly wooded area, and youll have reasonable expectations. The area is surrounded on one side with older concrete three story apartment buildings, and 2 sides by 500k+ houses. However, once you are in and on the trails, it really feels nice. Im willing to bet in the spring, summer, and fall that the missing winter foliage provides an even stronger illusion of isolation. However even in the winter, on a busy 70 degree Sunday afternoon, and just a couple of blocks from the highway and interstate... I cant recall hearing a single car to disturb the peace and quiet. There are a fair amount of hilly, root, and branch strewn pathways, but nothing rigorous or haphazard. There was a nice flower or orchard fenced area i didnt take time to inspect. There were a couple of 8 to 10 foot piles of leaves in the back area that could use some attention. Overall though, just a nice little gem for a short quiet hike that is hidden right in the middle-middle of Chesapeake 😁
Enjoy the time and the walk
Nice place
I love this little park and wish it received more funding so it could be maintained better. Very relaxing to stroll through.
Awesome place to see. And be sure to run or walk the trail across the street.
The trails at the Chesapeake Arboretum are gorgeous and well kept!! Its one of my go-to spots to take my dog when we need to walk off some energy!
Love the trails. A great place to experience nature without having to go far.
Is a serene place to find your peace of mind!!!
Awesome nature trail.
A wonderful oasis of peace and beauty in Chesapeake. They have several nice hiking trails as well as beautiful, well-tended gardens. Great way to get away from the hustle and bustle.
Beautiful and peaceful. So many unusual tree species, too!
Beautiful, but entrance off the road, has a stream with groundwater and rainwater that smells more like sewage. Homestead area is pretty. Bob, a master Gardener there, was super welcoming and friendly. Two thumbs up. Go visit :)
We loved it
Gorgeous light trail!
Beautiful place and very well maintained!! A good day trip to bring the dog or family.
Nice outdoor place in the woods. Beautiful lake and nice trails to walk.
Quiet, peaceful, tranquil. Nice trails and bridges through the woods. Markers show different species of flora. The old 1700s farm house is amazing.
Cute wooded park to walk in and learn about the flora in the area.
