I cant emphasize enough my appreciation for Sylvan, especially the Chesapeake staff. They always greet you with a smile, communicate efficiently, and clearly love what they do. And you can tell these kids love it here too! My 11 year old son has done a complete 180 since starting with Sylvan. He enjoys learning here (he doesnt resist). His overall engagement, attitude towards school, and anxiety has dramatically improved. His grades are better than I have ever seen them, but more importantly he clearly grasps information better now. I had always heard great things about Sylvan, but hesitated due to the financial aspect....push this aside!!! Their services are definitely worth the money; so much that I have just enrolled my 14 year old.

We started my grandson in March of this year because as a Kindergartener in Chesapeake, he was missing so much with the effects of Covid. He would be in class a few weeks, then due to exposure, he would be online. He is generally shy and reserved child who needs alot of reinforcement, so with the varying methods of educating, he was falling behind very quickly. We knew he would not have the foundation needed to move ahead.His first time at Sylvan, he absolutely refused to even go inside. The second time we got hom inside but he refused to participate. By the third attempt, he walked in but was very shy and insisted that one of us sit in the room with him. Now, Here we are six months later and he walks in by himself, not only participates but excels with his participation and engages in conversation freely. I told the teachers today that I wished we had a before and after video.The staff is wonderful and caring!!! Super understanding and awesome with all of the children that I see. The service we received at Sylvan was top notch. They were very flexible with our schedules (I had to reschedule a lot of appointments) and my daughter enjoyed going there. Their online portal was so convenient and provided just what my daughter needed. My daughter was able to raise her SAT score by 180 points! Well worth the price.

When we started our journey with Sylvan our daughter was two years behind in reading and one year behind in math. I can’t say enough positive things about Sylvan the teachers and the directors we have worked with. Throughout this process there were times we had to meet with the school administration, often times we were unfamiliar with the various rules, policies and the benefits that the school had to provide us. The director came with us to those meetings, advised us about those meetings, and helped us get all the help at the school system was supposed to provide our daughter. Without their help I don’t know that we would’ve known all the little intricate details, and likely would not have been as successful in getting the school system to provide services.If your child is struggling I recommend giving Sylvan the opportunity to help them. Often it is a marathon not a sprint, they will work with your child with the goal of getting them where they need to be with their education level.

The coronavirus really affected some of my son’s foundational math skills. Fourth grade really got off to a rough start and his self confidence was plummeting. Our family is so happy we decided to put him in the Sylvan Math program. I’m currently looking a his progress report and his grade has gone from a C+ to an A- in 3 months. This mom is smiling ear to ear! My son enjoyed going to Sylvan and we will continue. Thank you!

I placed my 1st grader with Sylvan seeking support to get him to reach his full potential. The goal has been to help him build confidence and to perform at grade level with reading. I thought it would be a struggle but in only 1 month I see him applying the strategies that hes learning there, I see his desire to learn and I see that he now enjoys reading because he is no longer struggling. Communication and the service at Sylvan has also been great. I am grateful for the help he is receiving and it really shows!Update: My son is now performing at grade level! He came home with an award from school and was so proud of himself! He is reading EVERYTHING and he is so confident, not afraid to sound out words anymore and always doing his best! Afraid to fail my son, I made a decision to invest in his learning. Thank you Sylvan.

The staff at Sylvan-Chesapeake has exceeded our expectations! Weve never worried about our childs care and have seen so much growth in his excitement for learning, which has been hard since March. As educators ourselves, wed recommend this group to anyone. Thanks for all youve done!

My son has been attending Sylvan of Chesapeake for a year and 3 months. He came to Sylvan as a 5th grader with an IEP and reading at a 3rd grade level. He also struggled in Math. I was a little skeptical when we first started Sylvan but we started to see some progress. But, now after attending for over a year he has brought up his grades to As and Cs and is reading at a 5th grade level. He is testing in 6/7th grade in Math. My son is not a huge fan of having to go to tutoring but his confindence has grown and he really enjoys the tokens he earns and then using them to shop at the store. HE has been able to redeem the tokens for gift cards and small toys. The people at the Chesapeake location are very helpful and professional. They take their time to know their students and are helpful when it comes to dealing with the school as well to make sure the best plan is in place to help the student. If you are on the fence about whether or not to try Sylvan, give it a try. It isnt cheap but it is well worth it. Im glad we gave it a try and its such a relief as a Mom to not see my child stuggle and cry during homework each night!

My daughter Mycah has Autism and has fallen so far behind In 1st grade that all the rest of the children are reading at an G level and Mycah was at pre-A level! I didnt know what to do. I had been trying to help her at home, but I was getting nowhere with her! I had seen Sylvan in the shopping center and decided to go in and talk to them. They did an evaluation on Mycah. I told Mrs. Sullivan my frustrations with getting Mycah to read. Her words to me where (We can fix her, we know what is wrong)! Take my money! Mycah in two weeks was reading words! In three weeks was reading books! In two months is reading and writing sentences! Update! 07/22/19 Mycah has started reading books! Last night she picked out her book for night time. I sat with her in amazement! She is now a reader, with little help from me! she is pronouncing words that she doesnt know!

Sylvan works! It has been amazing for my son and my family not only has it improved his reading but it has given him confidence. We have been taking advantage of the virtual sessions since the pandemic started and my son likes them even better than the in person sessions which he also enjoys. We are pleased with his progress, the customer service and their commitment to our safety and we especially love Ms. Robin!

Sylvan has been an amazing experience for our whole family. It gave our son confidence and he has learned so much! He has jumped two grade levels in reading and phonics, his attitude toward reading and school has completely changed. He has loved every minute and was so eager to attend his sessions. It also gave our family peace of mind and the skills and insights to better support our child at home as well. I know that our son’s academic future is brighter because of the teachers and staff at Sylvan. Very pleased with and grateful for Sylvan of Chesapeake.

Sylvan works! My first grader started Sylvan at a B reading level and in two months was a E/F. Sylvan customizes her learning for what works best for her. They are ADHD friendly too. The token system is wonderful and pushes my daughter to do her best. We love Sylvan!

My daughter has advanced incredibly fast. We absolutely LOVE THE SYLVAN FAMILY... and my sweet girl cannot wait for class every time. Literally the best decision we have made for the family. Great investment. I’m not sure how you could go wrong choosing to help your child advance with some extra help from a staff that really cares. We love you guys.

This is the best place if you want your child to succeed in school and prepare for college as well. I dont know what I would have done if ai hadnt found this place. My daughter has improved in Math and Reading and is back on track in school thanks to Sylvan Learning Center.

Sylvans is an wonderful place for tutoring. They know how to work with the children to meet their specific needs. My son is there for English/writing help and Dr. Ken has done wonders with my son. I can see an improvement in his writing abilities in the short amount of time he has been there. If your child is struggling with school I highly recommend Sylvans.

I love it. They doing wonders with granddaughter. I reccomend this program to anyone. They are willing to work with parents to find the best suitable program for your child..kudos to Sylvan.

What a wonderful experience our child is having at Sylvan learning center in chesapeake! The tutors are excellent and use a variety of different methods to help with study skills, learning, reinforcement of material learned in the classroom and even remediation! The confidence our child is experiencing because of Sylvan is just incredible! I can’t say enough about the professionalism and dedication of the Sylvan staff and tutors. They work with our schedule (which seems to change weekly!) and always handle any changes with ease. The system of tokens and prizes seems to keep our child motivated and engaged. We are thanking GOD for Sylvan and are very grateful for their caring services! We are willing to do whatever is necessary to help our child succeed at school and Sylvan is partnering with us. We highly recommend Sylvan to everyone that has a child who needs any kind of educational help!

We have turned to Sylvan for help in the past and our kids have greatly benefited from their services. Their course in Study Habits, tutuoring and homework help have been great tools for them. Our daughter recently did 12 sessions of homework help for her Trigonometry class and it helped her bring up her final grade a whole letter! Shes now focusing on preparing for her SAT exams and will be participating in Sylvans SAT bootcamp. We cant say enough great things about Ms. Kim and her entire staff who work hard to provide the best services to these kids.

My son has been a frequent flyer at this location. They are open to work around scheduling as my son plays sports. He juggles between Math and English. We have seen improvement in both subjects and this has also boosts his confidence being able to grasp the material. Dr. Ken is great for honors English. He has had several tutors for Algebra. My son had to retake Algebra, even though he went to Sylvan the year, he did pass the class with a C but this decision was based on ensuring he knew the basics, and he now has an A, improving his GPA. My daughter has been taking a Math EDGE course here for 3 months. She enjoys coming and the staff has always been very helpful and supportive of her.

I had an appointment at 1130 for testing for my son. We were here on time and have been sitting in the lobby... it is now 1156. No one has acknowledged us at all, or told us anything about them running a bit behind. A lady is walking around, she looked at us but did not say anything??? I am very disappointed so far with the customer service here.
