This is the second year that I have used Argus Tax and Financial Services to do my taxes. I am self employed and get overwhelmed every year with everything I need to get together to do my taxes. I have used a CPA to file my taxes every year because I want an expert who knows allowable deductions and everything else about filing taxes. I was using a big tax firm, and my CPA left, and I was never notified. For several years I did not know who would end up doing my taxes, which made it more difficult when I had questions. Their deadline for me to get them the info went from 4 weeks to 5 weeks before the tax due date, I spent a lot of time filling out their forms, and they charged me a lot. I feel like I was paying them a large sum of money for them to just input my info in a tax program (I can do that) and not advising me on tax law. A colleague informed me of a big tax deduction that they did advise me was available. I emailed them to ask them about it and they said, yes, it is deductible. They knew my circumstance, but never brought up the possibility. I asked if I could get tax refund for previous years and they said, yes, 3. It was a very, very simple change and they charged me $200 each, when it was their omission in the first place! Then they did not advise me of other tax implications of this. Between their charge and increase in local tax, didnt get much benefit for previous years. So I was happy when Brad Jacobs moved into the office next door. I met with him and felt confident in him. He also advised me of a form I was failing to file, that none of the CPAs that did my taxes over the past 8 years did. He has answered all my questions, done my taxes quickly (and I assume correctly!), and for less than the big CPA firm. Highly recommend!
