My husband applied for a kitten here and let me know it was my wedding anniversary gift for our 1st anniversary. We recently lost our beloved cat Bagheera and we had been sad for quite some time. I was so excited to meet Wolfgang, formerly known as Blue Cheese. I kept checking the website and was sad when I saw his posting removed. I thought we lost him to another family, however turned out that family was us! The staff is super friendly and we were able to meet Blue Cheese and then take him home that day. He was super excited, doing zoomies across the room. When he arrived home, he bonded so well with our current cat Sherlock and Sherlock welcomed him right away. We are grateful to have Wolfgang apart of our family. Thanks for all you guys do!
I had a wonderful experience with the team at Charlotte Humane Society! Savannah did a wonderful job briefing me on different options for a pet and helped me to find just the right fit based on my lifestyle. Sarah at the front desk was particularly helpful in getting Fizzy (now Ruby!) and I prepared for the transition home. We left with smiles ear to ear and are settling in quite well! Thanks, team! I will definitely be referring you to friends.
What they do is good, no doubt, but the method they go about doing it is horrible. I had to go across state lines to adopt an animal because they kept denying my application. When I asked why, I was told it was because of my current living situation. I live in a home that I own. I have a fenced in yard, and I have a great job. What they mean is because I am a single man in his mid 30s. One even addressed that they did not think that I had the time to give a dog their full attention.I filled out an adoption application in South Carolina where I have a home too. I was pretty much approved instantly. I got a dog, that I love, and we are inseparable. This humane society is horrible. They use discriminative practices to wean out applicants who are single. They put applicants who are married, or married with kids and place them in front. If you are single, beware. They will do anything they can to reject your application.
I had to call them about 4 times to get an appointment and when someone finally answer the phone the lady didn’t let me even talk or explain the full story, she keep interrupting me and telling me that the place couldn’t help me with my cat. She was not friendly at all and I’m completely sure she didn’t want to help! Terrible
Clean and well maintained. I wouldnt hesitate to adopt from them
All my cats were strays/feral who found their way to my house. I took them (5) to be spayed/neutered through the Humane Society. All of them are now permanently living with me. The Society took great care to treat them like they were their own. I highly recommend using their services. My dog did training with them.
Very friendly, caring staff. We are so pleased with the adoption of June Bug, our little 3 3/4 legged cat! She is a joy. Her impairment doesnt slow her down one bit! She loves to play and be loved. Brought such joy into our lives. She adapted quickly to her new home. We are learning from her!
The staff the facilities the service they provide to the community is amazing and outstanding. I used to volunteer at this facility I enjoyed volunteering there I also enjoyed being there to continue the services necessary in the community. I highly recommend that everyone that can and cannot afford the level of service from a private veterinarian will partake in this service that they offer at the society. They are an asset to Charlotte.
I adopted my cat from here about 5 years ago. Never regretted it. They took care of everything for me and all the paperwork is legit and I even love coming to the clinic next door for their very cheap prices for the shots.
This place was amazing. I just got an adorable doggy yesterday from there, i really loved how you can meet the dogs and you get to know more info. we had gone to other places but this place was just the best. Nice staff too!
We adopted our 1 year old cat here and had an amazing experience. They are very transparent and made sure she was gonna be the right fit for us. Everyone was passionate about their jobs, incredibly nice, and they were so helpful on so many levels. They take great care of the animals and they even called to check up on us after about a week to make sure we were happy with her and that everything was going OK. Highly recommend rescuing from the Charlotte Humane Society. We got the sweetest kitty and renamed her Gabby...since she never stops talking haha 😄
Great Place to get your dog and they have great staff ther to answer any and all questions you might have
We adopted 2 cute little kittens 1 week back. It was a very seamless process. the staff was very friendly and patient as well as helpful with making the adoption easier. Quisp and Queso are doing very well and have settled well. we enjoy having them. Now named as Nimbus and Halo.
Super friendly and efficient staff. Didnt take more than 25 minutes between arriving, my pet being treated and leaving. So good, that Im taking my second pet for vaccines as well.
Kind and competent professionals providing a critical service to the community, it doesnt get much better than this. I heard they are soon to move to a brand new building so that should fix the only possible negative in some peoples minds.
My Dog Charlie gets the best care there I took him for a yearly check up,come find out hes was sick after all this time .. Charlie is Happy now...Thanks to them Guys!!!Yes
Always so friendly and very affordable
I am really hoping that this was a fluke, but my kids and I had terrible experience at the humane society last Wednesday. We had an appointment to adopt a dog and introduce her to our dog. On the phone, the woman was very polite. She scheduled a double appointment at 3:30 to allow for time to meet our dog and we thought we were set. We got to the shelter we were eventually greeted by a young woman who immediately told us we couldnt introduce our dog because there wasnt enough time. I was disappointed, but said fine. I had to ask to see the dogs. She was very discouraging and kept saying that they were testing the dogs tomorrow and would know more about them. The dogs that I was interested in had been in the shelter for at least a week if not more. There were three dogs I would have adopted on the spot, but I wasnt allowed to interact with them and was directed away. It was very odd.But the most disturbing part was that 90% of the kennels were full of feces and urine. Dogs were stepping in it, jumping in it and some were crouched in a corner trying to avoid it. I was a vet tech for 5 years and have a lot of kennel experience. Sometimes you miss a poop or two but there is no excuse for the amount of feces in those kennels. It was disgusting and I felt terrible for the dogs that were bothered by being enclosed with their own excrement.Again, I hope this was not the norm and that I happened in on a very unusual day, but I was so upset by what I saw and experienced, that I had to say something. If nothing else, hopefully they will be sure to clean the kennels appropriately.
The experience there was Quick and Great..my pet is a resure pet and he can get kind of mean with new people. But the young man that took care of my pet did Great and it was a Great decesion to go there......
Very friendly, had my cat neutered and they took great care of him.
Adopted 2 kittens here. The staff is warm, loving & helpful.
The Humane Society of Charlotte is an excellent organization. Staff truly care about outcomes for every animal that comes through their doors, not only the pets available for adoption but also pets in the community. All of our pets have been adopted from shelters, and our dog is HSC alumni. Hes been a great addition to the family.Whether you are looking to adopt or volunteer I highly recommend the Humane Society of Charlotte.
I adopted a dog, roughly three years old as a playmate for my older dog. They are getting along well. I appreciate the assessment and time the Humane Society allowed for their introduction. The facility was professional, followed COVID preventive protocols, and allowed me to meet the dog independently of my older dog. After my experience, the facilitators introduced the dogs. I observed and encouraged. The team also explained behaviors to observe as normal and healthy. Normal behaviors of new surroundings are being positively corrected. Training an older dog is the same as training a puppy, be consistent and patient. I’m so pleased and happy to welcome Ryder to our family.
The people who run this organization are incredible not just for the work they do, but for how they treat their employees. They go above and beyond to support their people with the same compassion they show to animals. Ive never worked for them but I love someone who does, and I am VERY protective so trust and believe Id be raising hell if HSC werent so amazing. Everyone there works SO hard to make the world a better place.
This is one of the very rare places that offer open adoption. Rest all of the sites and organizations have such a lengthy process that it makes it so stressful and anxious that you might never find the one.I just adopted Pupperoni - Redbone Coonhound Mix puppy. We named him sexy, so he is. In 3 days he has completely changed our life and given me a reason to live for! I cant believe someone would ever let the chance go to raise him, but I guess I was lucky that they did. He is such a friendly baby and so intelligent, tries to always understand what you are saying. Thank you Humane Society!!!
Have to make an appointment via website to visit animals. I guess this is their covid-19 rules. This step will cause prospective pet owners to take a pass and animals will lose a chance to gain a new home. I feel website appointments will eventually cause more animals to be put down rather than saved. I sat in parking lot in my car most of the day and noticed that they turned around many prospective owners. I doubt if all of them will go to the website and make a future appointment. I know I didnt.
We recently adopted Guinness from the Humane Society. He was VERY VERY sick with in the first 48 hours of having him home. We had to admit him into the ER for about 2 days... We were heartbroken about this. When I called to tell the Humane Society what had happened they were more than understanding. They helped us out with the bill! And we have a very happy and healthy puppy! we are happy with our overall experience with adopting. My only concern is how much time and effort they actually spend on the intake for these dogs and making sure they are healthy enough to be adopted. We LOVE Guinness he has filled our lives with so much joy and happiness.
They were so nice to my dog! 10/10
I adopted two kittens a black cat named Darla and a boy grey mixed color cat named Bartz. I actually renamed them lol. Mamas name is Nami and little papis name is Nori. Their doing great and I’m completely in love. Humane society of Charlotte made it such an easy process. Honestly the hardest part was choosing which furry friend I wanted to take home. I felt an extra sense of confidence with dealing with them as both kittens were up to date with shots, vaccinations and had been neutered. Only issue I’ve had was the boy after first day had the sniffles and actually ended up taking him to the vet on sunday mind you I got them Friday. Before taking him to the vet I called the shelter apparently it’s a very common thing for cats at the shelter to contract these sort of “sinus infections.” Only thing I could say that was a little discerning is the fact they said once kittens are adopted their isn’t anything they do for you. Thus I called a 24 hour vet ended up having to get him medicine. I was a little annoyed that this wasn’t discussed with me since when I called the receptionist said this is a very common issue with sheltered cats I guess almost like the equivalent of a dogs kennel cough. Besides his sneezing and being not able to breathe freely through his nose he had very puffy drainy eyes. Even though he couldn’t spread the cold to me it’s highly contagious between the two kittens so unfortunately I had to do a type of quarantine between the two. I felt so bad because their so young luckily with the help of the medication prescribed by the vet and some TLC from me their both thriving and healthy full of personality. Eventually I want to get a humidifier as well.
I recently adopted a young dog from the Humane Society. It was a good interaction and I would recommend them if you are looking. Just bring a collar and lead. I brought a slip lead, which is what my vet, the animal shelter and the rescue I work with all recommend. Unfortunately I had to purchase a collar and a lead (and I have about 10 already).
We adopted Tennessee today! He is a precious gray and white kitten. The staff are friendly knowledgeable and professional. The process was fast and easy! We came in yesterday and brought him home today. They were also SO kind to wait on us to get there. We were supposed to pick him up by 5:00 but I had to work late and they waited until almost 5:30 and we are so grateful! My son was so sad because he didnt think we were going to make it there in time. Also a very clean facility! Would highly recommend adopting from here and we definitely would again!
Please go online and sign up for your new pet “adoption” I adopted my 2 babies in 2007, I thank GOD that they choose me to be their Mother. Victoria Secret aka/Bigurl a small Terrier and Chanel Dior aka/Grandma a Shih Tzu. Thanks sooooo much for my adoption.
Super friendly and helpful staff!
They have great service once you’re in but it takes forever to get an appointment. In my opinion they should just lower the max capacity and let people in, because you sign up one day and the dog is gone the next so there’s really no time. They make it way too difficult to get in and from my experience they claimed to be “busy” at 11:30 with an empty parking lot. So use your time wisely.
I adopted this sweet angel almost 10 years ago. Her name was Krystal and she was saved from a kill shelter 2 weeks prior. Shes been a constant source of happiness and smiles in my life. The humane society took great care of me when I came to get her! Nice and friendly as possible! I cant say anything other than thank you for this crazy loving Basenji named Olivia! Shes daddys girl!
I drove an hour and a half and got there 25 minutes early. I saw 3 dogs. My fiance and I ended up adopting rapunzel
These guys were so great. Had an appointment to look for a dog with my son. Staff was so helpful and nice and knowledgeable. Thank YOU guys!!!!
I put in an application on Saturday and had an appointment Monday, where I adopted our new beautiful dog, Patricia! I paid $150 & about $27 for her; Leash, Collar, Toys, Treats! Also learned that the pets don’t stay long, 1-2 weeks max which makes me happy to know! I can tell they are well taken care of there but I’m so glad that they will be able to come home with a family!
The Lady there helped me get to the right place to get my dog Roxanne vaccines done! And when I got there everything was FREE😊 Thank you so much!!
Are we here to go and get my dog neutered, it was an affordable price, the staff were amazing and safety precautions were definitely met.
I should have put 5stars, yall are great I just wished I could have kept dawn but it didnt work out
We definitely need a new dog .Female if possible
It was okay very quick.. thinking not really a place to say a vet for the animals just like an emergency center. Idk 1st dog still learning
Maybe a better way to see all dogs they have
If you looking for a pet call them. They were amazing. Even if you just wanna help an foster for awhile they need you. Give a animal a home.
DO NOT TRUST THEIR MEDICAL RECORDS!! I adopted a cat a little over a month ago and they told me she was cleared the day that I adopted her. Brought her to the vet and they say I have to take her to a cardiologist (irregular heartbeat) which is $800!!! I can’t pay that so now I have to look at other options like euthanasia or see if someone wants to adopt her from me and is able to pay her vet bills.
They really did they really did a good job taking care of my dog and I found a really nice person to adopt my little doggie
The staff were super friendly & knowledgeable!! Their concern for the adopter to get the right fur baby and vise-versa is truly a blessing..Amelia has brightened my parents life & mine!!#ADOPTDONTSHOP
HSC is such a great asset to Charlotte and the surrounding area. They not only adopt out dogs and cats but also provide SO many services to the community. I would highly suggest checking out their website to see the many programs available such as, spay/neutering, low cost vaccines, Pet Food Bank, behavior classes and SO much more! They truly stand behind their mission and are providing excellent service to the animal welfare community!
This is such a fabulous organization! It is incredible what they do for animals AND people in our community. They save thousands of lives and help keep people united with their beloved furry family members. The staff are some of the hardest working people in Charlotte. Cant say enough about how amazing this organization is! LOVE THIS PLACE!!
THIS IS THE BEST PLACE TO TAKE YOUR PETS!! THEY GIVE YOU GREAT SERVICE AT A GREAT PRICE!!
My boi is 7mo, 65lbs, took care of that nasty rabies shot, deworming, micro chiped, and those dreadful nails cut
Staff was very professional and knowledgeable about the cats and dogs, specially the animals personality which helped us make the right decision and adopt the perfect cat!
The best place to go find your furrever friend. Many of the dogs and cats that are here have been through a lot but just want a second chance with someone who would be able to love them for the rest of their lives. Adoption of rescues are the best kind. I found my pup here and Im so happy I did. Everyone here is so compassionate and understanding they are an awesome group and I applaud all of their efforts in taking care of all the pets until they find their one true home.
Thats the place where I had to give my dog zuri back❤️😔. Nice people and take good care of dogs
This shelter is amazing! They have so many different and affordable resources, and they do so much for the community. The staff take great care of the animals and are always super helpful. The animals and people there are wonderful!
It was courtesy they was nice and they very informed informative
It is impossible to get anyone on the phone to talk to. They completely ignore appointment emails. Also only has like 10 dogs to adopt??? And appointments are needed to just go see the animals. They strive to make it as hard as possible to adopt an animal.
This place was absolutely amazing. There is a huge selection of dogs, all varying in age. My boyfriend and I went to look for more of a cat selection and were not disappointed in the slightest. They even have a room called the escape artists where cats are free roaming about and you are easily able to pet them. As most cats do, they lounged and seemed unbothered we were in their room. The facility is one of the best I have ever seen, plenty of space for dogs to move about through pens, probably double, if not quadruple the size of other dog pens at shelters. Awesome experience here!
So thankful for them and how they work to be the best they can be for the dogs and cats. I found my pup here thanks to the help of one of the volunteers who really knew the dogs. It meant so much because I had been so discouraged I wouldn’t find a dog and they helped me find her and she was everything I was looking forward!
Very kind and attentive people work here. Here you can save a good dog or cat.
I went today to see the 3 cat siblings (Derby, Danielle and Daisey) I selected online and to secure my adoption by paying $150 per cat. These grey tigers are so adorable and worth the cost! I was disappointed however to learn they all had an upper respiratory issue (shelter cold ) but otherwise my experience was good. The staff was friendly. I was given 3 bags of food and paperwork/ID tags for each cat. I cant wait to give them a loving home next week. My last cat came from this shelter at 6 mos old and was completely healthy (lived 17 yrs 3 mths) and spayed same day as pickup but I understand we are under different times due to COVID and now Hurricane Laura. Thank you all for what you do!
TLDR: They try their best, but dont rely on HSC to help you with your adopted pets behavioral issues even though they said they would. Its not a promise they can always keep.Overall everyone here seems to care and theyre managing the facility the best they can. But man it would be nice to have at least a 50% success rate when trying to contact someone here for help. For me it was easy to adopt a pet here, but not as easy to receive help with my new family member. Im a first time pet owner. The paperwork they gave me said I could contact them if I need any help with behavioral issues. I called a few times in a week for some advice with behavioral issues and most of the time I reached their voicemail. I left a message once but no one responded to it. So I dont want to leave another message. They did call back once and I missed the call. As soon as I noticed I called back and got their voicemail again. Maybe its bad timing on my part, or they are overwhelmed at HSC. Maybe its a bit of both.Youtube has been a big help and prevented me from making the heartbreaking decision of giving him back. My pup is making modest improvements, but Im going to have to invest in behavioral training classes before he gets older and more stubborn. In response to the owner:This is what your adoption paper says...Behavior - If you have questions at any time regarding the behavior of your new pet, please reach out to HSC staff for support and guidance. If appropriate for your new pet, sign them up for a behavior & training class. Check out our website for training and/or behavior articles: (link)The classes you mention based on the text above are optional. I should have been able to call and get some assistance since I needed help sooner rather than later. If I was able to get someone on the phone, it would be easier to determine if my dog would benefit from these classes. The email address you posted in your response wasnt even on the documentation. So my assumption was that I should have been able to call and reach someone.I was only providing constructive criticism. Id be inclined to give you more respect if you took the criticism well by understanding the perspective of one of your clients based on the expectations that you set through your documentation. Next time set better expectations so you wont feel the need to blame your clients for the miscommunication.
Getting your dog spayed is an anxiety-ridden experience, especially if its the first dog youve ever owned. However, The Humane Society of Charlotte made this experience nothing but pleasant. They took care of my Corgi well, and she recovered with no issues at all. The pricing is the reason we were drawn to them in the first place, but I can say they go above and beyond here. The service and their customer service is immaculate. Highly recommend trusting them with your dog!
I am renting/borrowing a trap from them.. Their community cat program is wonderful and the gal leading the effort is terrific!!!
Adopted my sweet dog here and can’t say enough great things about Charlotte Humane society! Everyone was so nice and helpful. They have a passion for animals and took such good care of him. I found my best friend & couldn’t love him more. I highly recommend adopting here.
