My roommates loved living at 212 last year so we decided to renew for this year! We love how modern the building is, the friendly staff and the sense of community between the residents. Even with some of the lowest rates, they provide top-level amenities, furnishings and security. Also, the location could not be better - located in the popular part of campus on Green Street!

Total fraudsters. The employees of 212 told us to leave our keys on our desks before we left last spring and that they would pick it up after the lease ends. Fast forward to the end of the lease and they said the keys are not there and we were each charged $80 for it. We pushed further and they said those instructions were recommendations but never once did those employees ever tell us it was a recommendation (we have email proof of that as well as of them saying they will retrieve the keys at the end of the lease). It would make sense if one of our keys were missing but all of them? No chance. Seems to be a scam operation they are pulling. If you enjoy being scammed out of money by fraudsters sign here.If not, sign elsewhere.

Its been about a month in since weve moved in and we still dont have a couch. This apartment is supposed to be fully furnished (one of the reasons why they charge so much for rent) and we are still sitting on the floor. Management has been super unprofessional in handling this situation and give us varying times on when couches are coming and dont do much else except lie to our faces about when the couches will be here. There has been no attempts to justify the situation except a blanket we understand your frustration statement. If they actually did understand theyd at least try to fix this by lowering rent or doing something, but no.And they charge a $60 just to use a software to pay your utility bills, even though they could easily use their own portal for it.

So far my experience at 212 has been subpar. We’ve been living here for a month and half and we don’t have a couch in our apartment. Which I find is ridiculous as we were promised a fully furnished apartment. The management has been really terrible with communication and continuously dodge questions about the couch. Every time one of my flat mates asks about the situation they deflect it with “we’re working on it and we are sorry for the inconvenience”. We’ve not once got a fixed timeline for when our couches will arrive. The other furniture provided to us is terrible quality and when we arrived our fridge had an unbearable stench. For the amount we pay I feel like we are being robbed. We will definitely not re-sign at 212 or recommend it to anyone.

I already wrote a terrible review on this place from my main account; but, since my brother and I were once again discussing how much it sucked living here, I had to write more. I can’t express how much we hated this garbage excuse of an apartment community. Overpriced, cheap furniture, unresponsive staff, and loud neighbors. Just don’t waste your time.

I started renting in Aug of 2020. Everything has been seamless from signing the lease, moving in, and managing payments online. The apartment is beautiful with new appliances and furniture and the workout room has a great selection of cardio/free weights. The front desk staff has always been responsive & fantastic to work with anytime I have an inquiry - Cheers!! :)

Overall, pretty nice place to live with a great location. The front desk staff and maintenance are very friendly and try to help as much as they can. However, getting a hold of actual management can be very hard. Lots of Greek life seems to live here so late night noise is a common occurrence.

This property is grossly mismanaged. The management cannot do anything right and they have an excuse for everything. The unit has bugs, six broken TVs since we moved in because they replace with another used TV, lost rent checks, lost packages since they are piled up by front desk and most important issue is lack of SECURITY. When you call security no one answers and you cannot even leave a message!!! UNSAFE - STAY AWAY!

The people working there are super friendly and super helpful. Maintenance is great and you can usually get things repaired within 24-48 hours. There are a lot of parties though.... but regardless, I think they have the best service out of all the champaign apartments.

The apartments are really nice and spacious. The only issue was that the top two floors don’t have some of the luxuries as the other floors (blinds on big window, sink grinder). Other than that it’s fantastic and management is efficient.

I had a very bad time dealing with 212 East. Building manager are not helpful. Expect to pay money on utilities even with the cap. Get a room on the highest floor because you will hear your upstairs neighbor or Red Lion across the street. Be prepared to pay for repairs in a poorly built apartment that constantly breaks. Overall a negative experience living at 212 East.

I fell in love with this place the moment I walked in. The lobby is amazing. A nice chill place where you can watch tv, play pool, or just sit around and do homework. Not only that, but they have main study rooms on the main floor where you can sit in with a group or yourself to do work. The maintenance team is great and always respond and fixes problem right away. The thing I love most about 212 is the events they host. They’re always having free food or some type of events to get people to come together. Some mornings they even have snacks for us to take on our way out the door. The price is reasonable for the quality of this place. I would recommend this place to anyone that’s looking to stay in an apartment.

A LOT OF THE OTHER REVIEWS ARE NOT REAL. There was free food in the lobby for ANYONE who would write a positive review about this place. Id take the slew of 5 stars with a grain of salt. There seems to be hidden fees for every single aspect of living here, which they should be upfront about! They retroactively add a lot of fees, which are hard to keep track of, and the building managers are not helpful. We get charged $4.50 a month, just to be able to access our tenant portals and pay bills, which is ridiculous! Not even the cheapest rental companies do this. There is supposedly a cap on utilities built into our rent, yet every month were charged upwards of $60 between all of us. THE WORST is that we get charged for maintenance requests, which is especially horrible since everything in the apartment breaks. The dishwasher leaks, the garbage disposal backs up, and the dryer is the worst thing Ive ever used. Dont bother living here.

Nice place to live with some minor issues. The good:- Friendly, responsive staff; occasional free food in the lobby- Full kitchen with plenty of counter space, big sink, and decent appliances.- Everything works reasonably well- Common spaces in the building including courtyard and lounge areas- Gym has pretty much everything you need- 5-10 minute walk from all the campustown restaurants- Literally right next to Lion, if thats your thing. If its not your thing, this is probably a negativeThe meh:- Cheap furniture; the desk chair and mattress are especially bad and I bought a foam mattress pad and proper desk chair right away. Our couch is also saggy.- All the cabinets have terrible handles that are hard to open.- Noisy, especially if you get a room looking out at the courtyard or Lion- Elevators are very slow- The wardrobe is a bit small- Its a bit of a walk from campus, and the only really convenient bus line nearby is the green, which only stops in the middle of campus.Overall, you can probably get better value elsewhere, but I havent had any major issues yet, and have enjoyed the many conveniences.

Completely overpriced. This place sucks. Seems like an okay deal at the surface but its awful living there. The building itself is not well built or insulated and you can hear every noise around you making it impossible to sleep. Obviously this is a college campus so there will be parties and noise every night but this is the first place Ive lived in where it is so poorly insulated and designed that you can hear someone having a conversation from across the courtyard. The management is awful and will not help you with anything not to mention the constant changes to the way you pay rent. There is supposed to be perks to living there like free breakfasts and printing but the printer is always jammed and the breakfast consits of nothing but bagels. Seriously trust me dont live here not worth the price!

THe management at 212 East Green Street is awful. I signed a lease with them for the coming semester (YES, I DONT EVEN LIVE THERE YET AND IM ANNOYED). I have called their office a million times and they tell me that their manager isnt there and tell me that theyd call as soon as hes back. I called them 4 weeks ago, i still havent gotten that call. Further, I still have no information on my apartment for the coming semester (Im worried ill be homeless).I hope they read this review and do something about their management.Very poor by 212!!!

At first 212 seemed like a great place to live when they were managed by first column. They had a good staff and even offered events a few times a month with free catering and music for their residents. However, a few months after moving in the apartment complex was sold to a different company. Slowly but surely, things started to change. Events with catering went from bbq cookouts and maize catering to, and Im not kidding, a make your own nacho bar which included tostitos chips, canned salsa, and processed shredded cheese. Of course this change was strange to residents however they were just perks of signing with first column at the time, so it was understandable to some degree. Things started to get even worse later in the year where a whole week of fire alarms went off nearly a dozen times for long periods of time and we never got notified about them testing the service. In addition, there would be loud full blown parties in the shared center of the apartment complex running well passed midnight weeknights, and Im not complaining about champaigns party weeknights Im talking about Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Whenever I would call to complain about this nothing ever happened! Its as if my complaints were ignored. It is also important to note that upon signing that it was assured that the walls were soundproof, however you can hear everything from your neighbors in the next apartment talking to even the elevator chiming! Not to mention the elevators take nearly five minutes to arrive. There are two elevators in the 6 story complex and it was about a weekly occurrence that I would wait for over five minutes to get on an elevator. Additionally, it is important for potential residents to know that the apartment was built VERY fast a few years ago and this can be seen in the quality of the apartment that might not be apparent to you when they are showing you there presentable unit during tours. For one, the AC unit does not have a front panel on it and can not adequately provide ac to the apartment. Another is that in certain rooms one of the rooms actually has no windows in it which is crazy to pay northward of $800 for a room without a window if you were unfortunate enough to be assigned that room. However, maybe this could be considered an asset as the windows installed have terrible, terrible insulation and condense enough water on them to cause wall damage and discoloration, not to mention a horrible draft in the freezing Champaign winters. Now that all the students have moved back home for the summer too, the management has conveniently decided to change their resident portal and it has been down for nearly a month! Students who wish to pay rent from home now have to send checks by mail which is annoying when a fine system was in place to pay safely and promptly online. Finally, they also took away the grace period upon the new change in management, before there was a grace period of 6 days and now I am recieving alerts that they post late fees the day after rent is due. This is the type of treatment residents should expect when they sign here at 212 East.Edit: No garbage disposals and they never mentioned that before signing. Also the square sinks with corners is a horrible design and causes problems. In addition, there is no fire caulk in the utilities closet which is against code. There was also a fire on my floor which caused it to smell awful and has never been fixed after months.

Lived here the first semester it was open. Towards the end of our lease we got 2 HUGE fines on our account for our room. 600$ charged for a single instance noise complaint and most disappointing was the fact that a large group of us got stuck in THEIR elevators between floors and they sent us a 952$ fine when we moved out for elevator damages. Would never use first column again or live in this building.
