Went in and filled out app was told it would be a few weeks for the kitten I picked out to get shots and was going to get another older cat too! Called several times and Facebook. I left messages and got no response! As I dont have animal cruelty on my record I have no choice but to believe it was something personal with the head lady! As I know not everything is race related I believe this was that! She wouldnt even look me in my eyes when speaking to her as well as no greeting when we came in! Sad because 2 cats could of had a good home!

I adopted my special needs kitten, Wilbur, from Last Hope in March. Hes now eight months old. Their foster volunteers do a great job socializing kittens -- from the get-go, Wilbur has been incredibly friendly and outgoing both with humans and other cats alike. He had all his veterinary needs taken care of as well, as he was already fully vaccinated, dewormed, and neutered when we brought him home.To those concerned about the fee, $80 is a very fair price to pay for an animal that is healthy, happy, well-behaved and well-cared for. Last Hope does the best job of making sure their pets are ready for forever homes of any shelter Ive ever encountered.

I had a bad experience with this adoption center. Was inquiring about 1 cat over the period of 1.5 weeks (because of snow storms), then went and met with the foster parent of the cat. At the end of the meeting, she made it seem like I was a fit and would have the cat by the following weekend. After 1 week of no communication, and my references also said they were not called, I emailed the foster parent. I had only ever been contacted and in contact with the foster parent, no one who worked at the facility. She said that she gave the cat to someone who applied AFTER meeting me in person. Who was a better fit. Essentially after I met with her, she concluded that me as a person was not a fit. But me on paper was a fit, enough to allow me to come into the center and meet her and the cat. She didn’t call my references, and I was judged after a meeting in person, that I wasn’t fit. Note that she’s also been fostering this cat for many years and suddenly was adopted out immediately after I met her.Im writing this not so much to make this center look bad, they can make themselves look bad, but writing it for future prospective families who are looking to apply. You can be great people with perfectly fit homes, who spend so much time looking for pets to adopt. Trying to do it the RIGHT way and not shop. And then get met with centers like these.Unprofessional. Be aware.

I put in a application for one of the kittens and they say they’ll get to up soon because we were the only application for the kitten. I asked if there was any information I should know about or if the cat had siblings and the person said no. About four days later we call and there was no answer. We kept calling until two weeks later they finally answer and I ask about the kitten and was told she was adopted by someone who wanted her and her sister. I was never told the kitten had a sister. If I was told I would have adopted both of them. I am very upset with this because I was not able to get a animal I wanted because I was not told all of the right information. On top of that when I asked if I could get a different kitten I was told no because I should have kept track of the information of the kitten having a sister and that I wasn’t responsible enough.

I adopted 2 cats from there in September, Kitty and Joey are their names. They both have health issues that I didn’t know about. Kitty has bladder infections and needs to be on special food as to prevent them turns out she had a bladder infection in this shelter and they said they cleared it. The cat I’m most upset about is Joey, when I got him he started throwing up soon after I got him. I took him into the vet and he had a bad heart got him on heart medication, he seemed to be better for a couple days. Than he turned worse he couldn’t walk, I rushed him to the 24 hour emergency vet where I was forced to make a difficult decision to put him down because he was so sick that I didn’t really have any other option. So not only did I already spend over 1500 on my cats I lost my sweet Joey who was a loveable boy. So I don’t recommend adopting from them. Try Cedar Rapids humane Society or a different organization. Hope this helps.

We went to a event they had at Toyota on Saturday. We were waiting for a dog they said would be there at 10;00am . Sometimes things happen. So we decided to walk around and check at some other dogs .My husband walked up and started to petting a blk Lab getting along pretty well. The women then tells my husband that the dog doesnt like men. This would have been nice to know before my husband petted the dog. We had another accuse my grandson of pulling a dogs tail . Which he has been taught to respect animals not hurt any. My grandson in 7 years has never done anything like this .The final unprofessional then was Amanda the women who hosted the event told me she would call me in a day or two. Now I understand things coming up and forgetting things . So I called let a message for her . She never returned my call. The organization can highly recommend to me from a friend who has since passed . Thankfully she did not see all of these things that happened . I think the volunteers over all do a great job. Maybe they were having an off day . I dont know but this is the reason I gave them this review. Most of the dogs they had that day were pit bulls . The dogs we very sweet.

Lois is amazing and has helped me with 2 dogs, a feral cat and an injured baby coon. She was nothing but amazing. For the record none of the animals were mine and I knew very little about both dogs. I have a soft spot for strays so I end up helping. The cat we were able to have fixed and vetted before she picked her up. No issues and glad they found homes for everyone!

We adopted from Last Hope a couple of months ago. They gave us a grace period to determine whether or not it was a good fit. We were newly married and first time dog owners. We LOVED our dog so much, but it is a really big commitment and there were some natural challenges. Im just starting my career and my wife is now in school and working as well. We spent a lot of time and money into taking care of him and making him feel a part of our family. But we often had to kennel him and with his severe anxiety, it wasnt good for him. We felt that he would be best in a home where he never needed to be kenneled and that had a yard for him to play. We made that decision within our grace period. We were treated horribly as a result of this decision. We really built a bond with him, and we looked forward to being able to check on him and see how hes doing from time to time. But we were blocked off of ALL social media, and phone numbers were blocked. My wife was devastated that we had to give him up and I just hate how we have been treated simply because we wanted the best for him. Its unfortunate, because I know Last Hope is truly a great place that does great things for these animals.

On their application they have a question that says list every pet youve ever had and this is an optional question. Make sure you really do list every pet you have ever had and give a detailed explanation. My application got rejected because they called a vet that I previously used and this vet told them i had multiple cats that were not listed on my application. I had told last hope i stopped seeing this vet for 3 years and that my cat died of old age shortly after i started seeing a new vet. I also had multiple cats on my record because when i was younger before i owned my own home i lived with people and i often took their cats to my vet. I failed to update previous vet on the status of my deceased cat and also didnt notify them when roommates and their cats moved out so it looked like i neglected care for 3+ years. When really my 19 year old cat had been too sickly to receive shots per this vet’s advisement and also new vet’s advisement. My cat still went for check ups and was seen any time they were ill (1-4 times a year). I have many references that can vouch for how much i love and care for my cat and other cats. I dont have any children and animals are my life. I visited the cats i wanted to adopt every day for 2 weeks while my application was processing sometimes i was there twice a day. The cats were being held at petsmart and lived in small cages. i often saw the cat sitting in their litter box as comfort. Also for some reason petsmart feeds sick/dead fish to the cats. There was a cat in the next cage over that had sniffles and sneezes for a week before anyone took it out of there (i am hoping it got the medical treatment it needed). I mentioned the sick cat to multiple staff members there several times. If anything shelter cats and pet store cats are mistreated. You would think they would want pets to be adopted so they can have more attention and room to live but it doesnt seem like it. You really misjudged me.

It is because of shelters like these that animals end up being needlessly euthanized. My wife and I tried to adopt some pets and were denied. Apparently, these people believe dogs need to be inside at all times except for relieving themselves. We have 3.5 acres in the country with a fenced in acre. Still we were denied. From the other complaints I have read, it is clear that these people are blinded by their own self righteousness. Steer clear of this shelter. These people are a major part of the problem.

Looking at the requirements to adopt a rescue pet, Im reminded that these organizations are the worst to get from. They take animals from horrible situations and rehabilitate them, but tend to look at potential adopters as abusers until proven otherwise. Their search is far too intrusive for someone who just wants to share their home and life with an animal.

Ive adopted cats from three separate shelters(Dubuque humane society, cedar valley, and CR animal care and control) none of them had an application that was as rediculous as this. We understand that they want whats best for the animals, but as soon as we got into the application I feel like I was getting interrogated and not applying for a pet. I was really looking forward to trying to adopt one of the kittens, but the application makes you feel like youre unworthy.

If I could rate them 3.5 stars I would. Basically my fiance and I adopted a cat this week and the lady who handled the adoption was lovely and amazing. However, on the day I was set to adopt my new fur baby, the adopt coordinator informed both me and the foster parents that when she had reviewed all of his vet papers she noticed that he had been tested for feline leukemia at 4 weeks old and was slightly positive. For those who dont know, 4 weeks is way too early to test for that. Around 12 weeks old is when that test is supposed to be performed. Since he had been tested at 4 weeks, he wasnt tested again at 12 weeks. This is a huge oversight considering he was placed in a foster home with 2 other cats (feline leukemia is a contagious cancer). I opted not to take him home that day so as not to expose my cat. Last Hope did pay for a second round of testing and he is negative for it so I was able to adopt him, but thats still a pretty big issue to miss. The adoption coordinator was very professional and apologetic though and I appreciated her telling us. She could have easily let it slide and she didnt. So Im not saying dont adopt from them, but be cautious and ask a lot of questions.

If you are handicapped or disabled, look for a DIFFERENT adoption agency. I applied to adopt two kittens/cats because my Cairo passed away last month. Everything was clear sailing until a home visit occurred. The entire demeanor of the agency CHANGED because I was disabled. They knit-picked my application to DEATH until they found a reason to deny me, which was just a smoke cloud for discrimination. Do yourself a favor and just avoid these people all together. They dont actually watch out for their animals, they allow them to die by passing on quality, loving homes that may be different from the rest.

Last year, I was misdiagnosed with metastatic cancer. I did what I believed to be, the responsible action and contacted Last Hope Animal rescue to rehome my 2 small dogs before I was too sick to care for them. I miss them terribly and wish I had waited for the 2nd opinion. However, I feel confident that their new owners are caring for them well. The application process is very comprehensive. All staff were very kind and understanding.

Wanted to adopt a bunny. Questions are too intrusive. Was willing to drive hours away and give Strawberri a new beautiful life. I am glad you guys cared enough to doubt our paperwork (big turn off), but I’m the one driving hours away and will be responsible for feeding, sheltering and vet care for the next 8 years. So if anyone should be overly concerned it should be me. It’s places like yours that kill animals. I’ll be buying from a breeder who doesn’t ask nonsense questions and will sell me a guaranteed healthy, indoor pedigreed (family raised/handled) rabbit. I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.
