The management is very lacking. When an issue arises and you notify they do not address the issue. The pool manager plays favorites. notified them several times and they did nothing. when bullied by another member they allowed the bully to continue. When the all adult room kept getting children they did nothing. Several of the life guards make their own rules. Reported to corporate. It was ignored. No apologies at all. no action taken. I had to quit because they would not do anything to change. Told me to come in at different hours. I work full time.. Several others told me they had the same experience and go to Towson. I cant do that. They need to reorganize and send letters to us that had to deal with this, tell us the changes and invite us back. apparently they just dont care. NOT FRIENDLY
I am appreciative of the work the administration did to rectify a recent issue I had. This gym is clean, classy, and offers all community needs. Happy to be a member.
So amazing. The employees are terrific and so helpful. I would recommend this to everyone
If you’re new and put your kids in stay and play at this location you will see that the staff has their favorites and if those children act up as toddlers do, they will not help your child. They expect young toddlers to handle their emotions like adults and the staff is poorly trained for handling young children.
Love the YMCA! They do so much for the community and a great place to work out! They started virtual classes in February and I love it! It not only allows me to squeeze in workouts on busy days when I cant get to the gym but also lets me do classes at different facilities that I normally would not have gone too. Its like getting double the class options!
Community is wonderful and welcoming! It is a great space for those of all levels of fitness and wellness- whether youre a seasoned athlete or just beginning your Journey!
The Best daycare my children have been to and the camp at Catonsville location has been awesome so far!
Everyone is so nice and helpful. It is like being around family.
Nice clean place. Employees are professional and pleasant. Very helpful with answering questions. In general I think the Catonsville Y is a pleasant comfortable place for all members of all ages.
Unprofessional handling of the mask policy and a clear abuse of power. Terminated the membership of a close friend on grounds that were not logical and purely emotional. He was violently threatened by another member and absolutely nothing was done. It was clear that he was being treated differently and unfairly due to political differences. I watched it first hand.He complied when confronted about his mask slippage while running at max capacity on the treadmill. This was not enough.I have watched him be obedient throughout this endeavor. In November he got a two week ban and was determined to not have any more issues, and he didnt. They have been compiling a list of incident reports on him so that they could terminate him. His membership was terminated although he leaves in a month for the Navy. He now has no place to swim in order to train to serve.
The staff is friendly and informative. The pool is clean and well run! Great programs ands extras!! So glad I joined!
Wonderful facility, always clean and functional. The staff is so welcoming and helpful.
Nice and cozy- clean and affordable - lots of opportunities for fitness and kids.
Great place to work out for the whole family.Safe, friendly and very nice staff.Recommend for everyone.
I loved my water fitness class. Cant wait to go back
Fantastic Team. Fletcher in the swimming department and Seth at the front were super friendly. Im in from out of town (AZ) and they were both very outgoing and welcoming!
Very Friendly, Helpful and sanitary. They do great job with the COVID 19 requirements. Feel safe and great place to stay healthy.
Love it their, water aerobics awesome then family swim
Love the water fitness class!!
Nice staff and lots of good equipment available
Great place to work out. Lots of equipment to use and the staff is very helpful. Highly recommend.
The staff and building are welcoming.
The Y team of the before and after care program are wonderful! I feel confident in my daughters safety and she absolutely loves being there. They have great security measures in place. The drop off/pick process is quick and easy. The hours are great. Overall the Y has been a great experience for our family.
We LOVE the Y!! We are part of the Open Doors program and it has really been a great experience for us. Highly recommend!
Nice place clean and safety, friendly employes
A nice gym with a swimming pool. Staff are very friendly.
Ms. Tara and Ms. Sharon are wonderful teachers! My son loves to go there every morning. I don’t even have to convince him to get ready. Both teachers are caring, professional, and extremely knowledgeable! We really love it! Swimming, wood shop, morals (such as being caring and share) are just a few of the things that make this place great.
Set up an appointment 48 hours in advance for a lap lane. Get there and there is a line of people trying to get in and all the lanes are double filled. Waste of time coming here. Try another location.
Check out Aqua Zumba 6pm on Thursdays great class
The handling of the pool during covin19 has been outstanding. Brian the lifeguard hasBeen exceptionally good, giving you confidence in the pools cleanliness and safety. Thanks for reopening
My son enjoys every moment at the Catonsville Y. The drop off and pick up time is effortless. I feel completely safe with my son while he’s away at day camp. The staff members are really pleasant and professional. The facility offers so many opportunities to engage campers and the cleanliness is impeccable. My family and I will always be members of the Y. Thank you so much for supporting Kayden in his swimming journey! He has gained confidence and now he can swim sufficiently on his own at 6 years old.
Tyjaes greeting me with a hello and a warm smile when I entered the building
Everyone there has been so nice! The facilities are clean and well cared for. I love the pool, and classes that are offered at various times during the week. This helps me with changes in my schedule. I recommend it to all interested in exercising!
Not crowded, nice staff, new member so far so good
I have been going to this location for over 2 years now. I think the staff are super friendly, the equipment and locker rooms are always clean, layout is perfect, and they are always engaging in community events. I would recommend anyone to go here.
Its much nicer now that they upgraded all the strength equipment. Still wanting for free space but very possible to reach all your fitness goals here.
The place is awesome! The staff is welcoming, cooperative and helpful. Me and my family enjoy going to the Y.
We love the Y swim lessons for our 8 year old! He began taking lessons at the Y when he was 6. He had expressed an interest in joining a summer swim team, so we registered him for lessons. He had always loved the water, but if he wanted to compete, he would need to learn the strokes. He loved the lessons from the very first one! We saw a lot of progress from lesson to lesson. He was learning the strokes and doing them well. He had a great first year on a local swim team! Now, he is taking the porpoise class to really focus on his form. The small class size really gives each of the children the opportunity to have individual interactions with their instructor.
I did mommy and me swimming class with my 21 months old daughter and we both loved it! My only complaint is that the changing room needs to be warmer.
The recent renovations have been spectacular. Catonsville Y has truly become a family destination. As a family we go just about every single day. The greatest part of the renovation has to be the climbing wall. We all love this aspect. My youngest wants to go everyday. Andrew and Alex are two terrific guy who really know how to challenge the kids fears with out making it scary for them. They do not allow the kids to fail, but instead encourage them to succeed at climbing the wall. Both these young men should be commended and rewarded for what they do. They go way beyond what is required and I am personally grateful. Please do not read the older reviews. The new Y is nothing like the old one was.
I stopped by other Y’s but this gym appeared to be one of the nicest, well maintained. I was helped by Noelle. She took me on a tour, and was very through in answering all my questions. If the rest of the crew is anything like her, this place is gold. I joined on the spot. I can’t wait to start going there, and once again, thanks to your kind and caring staff....Noelle.
My whole family loves the Y! There are more than enough pieces of equipment, and I have never had to wait for a machine. It is clean, and staff and members alike are considerate. We utilize the pool as a family, my daughter loves her beginner ballet classes, and they honor my Johns Hopkins employee discount. My children love the staff (not to mention toys) in Stay & Play, and we are always greeted with friendly smiles. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place.
My children had a fantastic experience with semi-private swim lessons with Rachael as their instructor at the Catonsville Y. She kept them happily focused and having fun, and their improvement was dramatic!
Love the atmosphere and the variety of classes! I wish there were more weight machines, but good variety of cardio machines! I also love sitting by the fireplace inside! Very relaxing!
We love using the Y several times a week, especially the classes. I have noticed, however, that the summer camp woodland behind the Y is fast becoming a dead tree zone, thanks to the invasive English ivy that is smothering nearly every mature tree. Why is no one concerned about this? A dedicated group of volunteers could prune most of the ivy and save the rest of the trees.
Hours are great . Staff is very courteous and personable while maintaining their professionalism. The facility is always cleaned and well maintained. A nice family atmosphere without the gym mentality. They communicate well, there is a good flow of information.
I don’t go as much as I would like, but when I do the staff are always available and willing to assist. The Y is always clean and pleasant.
I really wanted to give this place a chance- I am a student nearby UMBC that’s been trying to find a place aside from the RAC to work out at. To put it simply, there are a lot of machines that this Y doesn’t provide that others do. Many times I’ve come in to find that the ones they do provide have the hand grips damaged or ripped off or the weight can not be adjusted because the peg used to adjust is missing. Sometimes staff are just completely unaware that a machine is broken or outright unsafe to use. I am definitely not a pro when it comes to working out but it’s kind of disappointing when I have to spend time finding alternatives for pretty simple workouts instead of actually working out.
The personnel in the kids daycare (stay and play) is my only complaint. I personally wouldnt leave a small baby there. I have been comfortable leaving my kids there from the age of 2, though. Ive been going here for about 3 years. The 2015 renovations are AMAZING! The place is truly unrecognizeable. More weights, more machines, better machines, more classrooms etc. Staff is very friendly! I like the YMCA and workout here often. I dont use the pool. As soon as they renovate the tiny locker rooms things will really be in full swing.
Since they began renovations, this Y has much improved. Please dont be put off by the negative reviews from several years ago. ( I would have agreed then.) I can not speak for the daycare, but I like the bigger, more open rooms and we enjoy swimming there in the winter months. The staff are friendly and helpful.
I noticed the Y in Catonsville no longer has Fox News on the treadmills; does anyone know why?
The why was fine.
What a great place! They just did renovations, and its like new. Now, this isnt a big as some other Ys, but it more than does the job.The staff is friendly and always willing to help out. The place includes a pool, cardio machines, two rooms for classes, a shake/ smoothie bar, a pool, a climbing wall, and two nice places to hang out if youre waiting for someone. Thanks for all you do, YMCA!
I love the renovations, I think theyre are great! I like how spacious the new womens locker room is, with more bathroom stalls, and showers. Before I had to wait in line if I needed to use the restroom, now I can just go! I like the new studios. Also, I enjoy using the weight room but it is small and can get crowded. It would be good if we had another chest press/squat assist machine, as well as another free weight squat machine (as much as the space will allow), because sometimes I have to get in a quick workout and will have to wait to use the squat machines or cant use it because they are limited.
I love this Y! Lots of classes and facilities, clean and nice, everyone is super friendly, my daughter loves the kids playroom!
The people in this place are SO RUDE!!I refused to believe until I actually went in person and saw it with my own eyes. I went to drop off some military outreach paperwork and they wouldn’t even open the door.I came 15 minutes before closing and didn’t know that they close at 7 but, I figured 15 minutes would be ok to turn some paperwork in.The two ladies there seemed so bothered. My son even tried to spark a conversation and they just literally ignored him. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Not even a smile. WHY WOULD YOU WORK IN CUSTOMER SERVICE IF YOU HATE DEALING WITH THE PUBLIC ?!!! It’s just beyond me.Then, to top it off.. when I ask the lady for her name it was like she didn’t want to give it to me. I said goodnight and thank you. Never even got a you’re welcome or a goodnight. NOTHING. That’s what I got from these people NOTHING, not even a smile.Whoever the manager is, y’all should really re evaluate the people you hire for this facility because your interviewing skills clearly suck.
The YMCA is a great family friendly place to work out.
Its pretty great! I wish I could make it over more! Staff is very friendly and helpful, even when theyre busy with other duties or assisting other members. Also, the renovation invalidates most of the poor reviews on here. It also doesnt get too crowded, making it easy for you to do whatever you want to work on.I was skeptical at first because of reviews, but we stopped by and they gave us a tour - it was well worth it, especially with their recent renovations.
My daughter Delia is very happy with the swim classes she had at Y. Asked me to enroll her again :)))
The associates employed at the Catonsville YMCA are professional, friendly, welcoming and helpful. My experience attending the Y has been extremely positive, conducive to my overall well-being.
Catonsvilles a great place. Made all the more great by the community of awesome folks (staff and members) at the Y.
Great place with a great staff!!! A little small in the free weight room. But the overall facility is more than spacious. Great use of natural lighting throughout the facility.
I enjoy the classes that this location offers, however I think the customer service is awful. The front desk area, the staff is always to busy to answer any questions, and once they do have time, their attitudes are quick and nasty. I have been told many different policies by different staff members, one staff member gave my guest a hard time for registering. I deiced to cancel my membership with the Y based upon my horrible experience with customer service, maybe I`ll try again with a different location, because I do like the classes
The Y is clean and the staff is friendly.
We visited the Catonsville location on two occasions. Once during renovations. The staff was rude. The price for 2 seniors was not realistic for us. Our daughter went later to get use a membership as a gift. They were rude, inconsistent, and bias. She said that she felt racial tones and made them aware of it. We went to another Y received excellent treatment, realistic prices and joined.
The pool could be warmer on Saturdays for infant to toddler swim my baby is always shivering
Everything youll need to get on, or stay on the road to a healthier you.
I registered my son for private swim lessons at Y in Catonsville and he loved it, Rachael is my sons instructor and she did an awesome job! We look forward to more lessons.
The Y in Catonsville practices textbook discrimination. If you are over the age of 25 you pay an additional $16 per month plus a signup fee. So that means someone less than 2 years younger than me pays that much less for the same exact thing.Oh yeah and if you are 24 and turn 25 during your time at the Y they jack your rate up. I mentioned to the woman who was trying to get me to sign up that this is BS and she said said oh well when youre 25 you make more money and you can afford it umm why should I pay more for the same thing? so I told them this is just so they can get a younger crowd and not seem like an old people gym and this woman who couldnt even turn to us blurted out NOPE. THATS NOT IT. really really rude.I will not be giving this discriminatory gym any of my money. And I doubt management will respond to this either because they have no defense.Oh yeah kids their free weight area is sad, small, and depressing.
I canceled my membership on January 12th but they still charged my card for the month of February so my membership actually ends in March. That means I’ll be paying for one extra month for nothing because I started a new membership at another gym.
Im new to the area, and visited yesterday to potentially purchase a membership. I explained to the employee at the front desk that I was new to the area and asked for a tour of the facilities, at which point the front desk employee handed me a form to complete. At no point did he tell me who he was, what this form was for, or welcome me to the center. Upon completion of the form, the employee showed me around the gym without uttering more than 20 words to me. The employee giving me the tour stopped to have a conversation with a gym member about their children, work, etc. while I was left to awkwardly listen to the intimate details of their personal lives. Call me old fashioned, but I would have preferred the employee welcome me, show me around, and talk about the gym (e.g. sell the gym to me), without my feeling like I was somehow a burden on the employee.Beyond that, the gym was fine. Its small, but is otherwise what you would expect from a Y. Given my less-than-warm welcome, I left this location and have already signed up at another fitness chain gym in the area.
The restrooms; specifically, the mens locker room consistently (2002-to-present) has been poorly maintained. I made attempts to bring my concerns up with the staff and management, by which most brushed my concerns aside. Moreover, management seemed agitated or bothered that I had the audacity to complain about the lack of cleanliness. Even after the building renovations, the mens room has remained unchanged. I am surprised the health department has not been alerted to these conditions or whatever organization is responsible for maintaining public safety/health.R/~CW
The staff is awful. Especially the front desk area and pool.Every time when you have a question they answering so bad like they just wanna get rid of you. The pool staff is worse, they pretending to following the rules but actually they dont.Theres racial discrimination and its so sad .The classes are small and theres so many people who join and sometimes theres no spot to move.Theres Staff names Justin whos working in the pool hes so rude . Last when I went to the pool, there was so many people and he was counting people all the time, then he tried to get us out of pool for make his job easier.Theres no opportunity for children.I dont like the staff and I dont recommend this place.
Renovation fell short of an ideal gym for the price charged. For the same price other YMCAs have amenities like towels in the shower, steam, sauna rooms, indoor racquetball courts etc. Weight room could definitely be bigger.Place is generally clean and the staff is friendly.
Our six year old attended Y camp first time this past Summer. The Y camp staff eased concerns our six year old would adjust with not knowing any campers. The Y Staff and Director of Camp offered a meaningful nurturing experience. She was in the Orioles group, and rotated when attendance numbers were high. She and I had to adjust to the switching of camp groups which happened 3 times. However, once I expressed to camp staff this made my six year old un easy with the changes of leaving her primary counselor and friends. The camp staff paired her up with a buddy and limited her rotating.Gratitude, to Akelethi, Rob, Tyjae. Michael, and Olivia. Thank you Y camp for giving our six year old the best Summer. See you all next year.
My fiancé and I tried to combine our memberships into one joint membership. I was told that I would not be charged out of my account again and that the next charge would be out of my fiancés bank account in the amount of $74. My account was charged the full amount for my monthly membership. I called to resolve the matter and was told that they needed to find the paperwork and that I would get a call back. I never received a call back. I went in person 4 days later to resolve the issue and was told that they had created two individual memberships not a joint membership like we had requested. The girl who told me this was unable to make any changes to the memberships. I called back again and was again told that the person who I was talking to could not do anything to help me and that they needed to call me back. For a $52 monthly membership, you arent getting a whole lot. The only reason Ive been doing it is because I love the pool I paid $30 a month for Golds Gym membership and got better service and a better gym.
Best place to workout and family friendly
Family friendly environment. My son enjoys swim lessons at the Y.
At first I was so happy that trainer help me loose 25pounds and you wrote a story about my success. Then when I text my train Mr.Sesscer that I was suffering severe emotional problem you called suicide hot line on me where the police came. Then to make it worse you informed my brother then showed him the texted I sent.i am being treated for depression and take medication. My brother knew nothing about this cause it was a private matter. Now he no longer talks to me cause of the textes.Uf you were so concern you could had called me but you didnt.Even when I went to meet you the next day in your office I was crying. The YMCA and Trevor Sesscer changed my life forever.what about other people who may suffer from depression. Are you going to treat the same way like we are not human beings.Instead of firing Mr.Sesscer you backed him.up.I am still grieving not having a brother and my doctor has been helping me get over the emotional strain this has placed on my life.I am sure you thought you did what was best for the company but you did it at a person welfare without getting the facts.
I love going to the Y to workout but recently I’ve noticed an odd number of stink bugs at this facility. I think they should take care of this problem because it is very distracting and disgusting...
This is my 4th time visiting this Y location. I have really only had one descent experience concerning staff. The weekend staff that was there today was terrible. I cant necessarily say its all staff, but the front desk staff are rude and always act like youre bothering them. I couldnt even ask a question today without the young lady getting an attitude and walking away. The staff really need training on costumer service. I feel uncomfortable every time I go to this location, which is really sad because I live so close and would love to use this specific Y more. Even when I joined the Y I was rushed, could barely ask questions and was told I couldnt get a tour because both the staff their at the time were to busy ( busy attending to another member who also had a complaint). Im sure it didnt need two people. I can say that the center is clean and my daughter loves the camp program there.
We enjoy the YMCA at Catonsville. The staff know my name and my childrens names which makes us feel very welcomed. We enjoy our time at this particular location and we try to utilize it as often as possible. HOWEVER...I really wish the YMCA would do more in Woodlawn. I always thought the purpose of the YMCA was to keep at risk kids off the streets and keep them in the Y. The at risk kids are not really in Catonsville. There are hardly any programs for our community at all and I am particularly concerned about middle schoolers and high schoolers in the Woodlawn area. To access enrichment programs and sports other than basketball and football we always have to cross Rt. 40 which is a problem.
We love the Y. Is great for our family and the kids stay and play staff is the best around.
The first time I went to the Y. I was in shock how they treated there cosmumers they treat them with respect and they greeted your with respect but the only thing I would say when I was rock climbing I yelled down and said Im finished but he continued to talk with the little boy that he trained and he was being very rude when I talked to him he acted like he didnt care and went on to the next person and every time I come there he never acts happy...But to the other people he acts very happy
Awesome Y facility! We love it!
Never had a bad experience great staff very helpful and polite
The place is overall welcoming could be bigger for the gym but a nice family place
The class is very organized and structured. The instructor is very informative.
I called in and asked the representative to see if i can take my kids to swim here while visiting our relatives, she said yes to the first time visit! So i took my kids there! The front desk told me to fill up the form and charged me $10, then the other front desk said i cant go in if our we dont go in with a membership! I asked for the refund since they charged my credit card, they said they couldnt process the refund til the next day! AWEFUL USELESS STAFF UNWELCOME STAFF!!! Called the one in ellicott city and received way much better service!!!!
Staff is pleasant. Facility is clean.
Love the staff and facilities. everyone is always friendly and the place is always clean
The staff here is utterly rude! Everytime I come here we leave before closing times (5-10 mins) the front desk lady always stares me down!
Polite staff. Thank you for having a fun family location!!!
I swim at the Y each day. Great service and always clean.
I enjoy the views-think i wii join
Provided a 10 out of 10 rating.
Great staff and its a big area with plenty of equipment
