All I can say is WOW! Our family was on the verge of signing up with another school and fortunately found Gracie Barra Carlsbad just in time. The moment we walked in, we could feel the positive energy! While we’ve only just started with the school, it’s already been an INCREDIBLE experience. Aaron runs a clean, tight, friendly and fun ship. He knows all of the students by name, is super intentional with each interaction, and is just an all around amazing human. The sign up process is simple, the membership is affordable, and the requirements are flexible. Even every fellow member we’ve interacted with has been friendly, easy to talk to, and welcoming toward our family. The environment is absolutely beautiful, filled with respect, and the ratio of instructors to students they’ve chosen also fosters true learning. I could probably write a full 5 paragraphs on how impressed we are but I’ll spare you. 😄 We are so fortunate to have found Aaron and the Gracie Barra Carlsbad team!

This is the best place for Brazilian Jui Jitsu around. Great for all levels but absolutely top notch for kids and young adults. I can’t say enough positive things about Carlsbad Jui Jitsu.

Great childrens program! The Professor and Coaches really care about each kid and go out of their way to teach proper technique, form and respect. My son loves being involved with the program there and he has made some great friends. He even had an incident at school where a boy came up to him and tried to choke him, with the training he got from Gracie Barra Carlsbad, my son was able to calmly remove the boys hands from his neck and remove himself from the situation. Professor Aaron and his team of coaches are top-notch. My 6 year old daughter and 4 year old son attend 4 days a week and they absolutely love it. They started in August of 2016 and have met and bonded with so many other great kids. The coaches are patient and give the kids the right amount of encouragement and discipline. They know each childs name and their level. The classes are very structured but also very fun at the same time. My kids and I have been training at GB Carlsbad for over a year now and absolutely love it. Professor Aaron and the staff are great - very knowledgable, friendly, and fun. The other students are great as well. The facility is spacious and clean and they even have a great TV room for the kids to hang out in before or after classes. My younger son wants to go sometimes just to hang out with his friends. My older son has become a part of the competition team which has been great. The kids from this school, including my son always do extremely well in tournaments and competitions which is proof the instructors are definitely doing something right. My older son has some special needs and Professor Aaron and the coaches have been tremendous in working with him. They have helped this kid who never thought hed be good at anything sport related become a very skilled competitor who has now won numerous medals and championships. This school has welcomed us with open arms and quickly become our extended family.

I went to the facility last weekend and I had a blast rolling! I have only rolled a couple times before and I really enjoyed being at this gym. I liked the fact we did technical work first, and then went into live rolling. The only thing Id change is having a more intense/longer warm up... Overall great place for kids to adults ranging in all experiences.

Professor Aaron and the two coaches (Hector and Elijah) love sharing their knowledge and experience with all the students. The kids program is terrific, and there are classes at different times during the day to fit your schedule. Great experiences here, new people are always welcome. People are taught to adjust how hard they go to properly match their partner- so if youre smaller or have an injury, they will use less brute force... But if you want to push yourself, there is always someone willing to match your energy level

As someone who came from another Gracie gym, I love his attention to detail in techniques and his commitment to the sport. Carlsbad Jiu Jitsu is an amazing gym to train and such a great family atmosphere. My boys have trained here for 7 years and have grown so much as people and in the the sport. Aaron Collins has been an amazing coach mentor to them. The boys have won a combined 8 World Championships under his guidance and with his technique. They have become more successful in school and their other sports because of the lessons learned from Aaron. Aaron and his coaches treat the competition kids the same as they treat the kids just doing it for fun or to prevent bullying. I highly recommend this gym for anyone from 5 years old to 50 and above. It’s a great sport and this is the gym to learn it.

My youngest son has been training for about 9 months and loves it. I have been training for about 6 months and its my primary source of exercise. Professor Aaron and his awesome coaches are great teachers and know how to connect with their students. Aaron and his coaches are very patient with the children and makes everyone feel welcome. Ive been training at GB Carlsbad for two years. Their class & open mat schedule options are great, with noon and evening classes during the week, and morning class on Saturdays. The culture at this school is cooperative & supportive, and the members are like family. The instructors have fostered a community across several other GB schools near Carlsbad which has opened additional opportunities for training experience in case you find yourself out of the area but wanting to get mat time. Definitely recommend GB Carlsbad whether you are tournament-level fighter, seasoned practitioner or new to BJJ -- the breadth of experience you will encounter here will definitely add value to your game.

My Brother-Inlaw invited me to check out Gracie Barra Carlsbad about three weeks ago. I was never a martial arts guy and unsure if this would be something I would like of enjoy. As soon as I walked into the school I was greeted by several people and was definitely put at ease. The class was a blast and very informative. Everyone from the Professors to the other students made sure I understood what I was doing and helped me to get the most from that first class. I was hooked from that point and you can find me there 4-5 times a week. They have a very family friendly environment. Good for the entire family even if they are not taking class ( I bring my kids to hang out ) while I take class once or twice a week. Our son has been training at GB Carlsbad for a few years now, after having tried Karate. He loves the speed of Jiujitsu, and the fact that the coaches make it so fun. My two boys were training at the Gracie Barra headquarters in Irvine before we moved to Carlsbad and found Gracie Barra Carlsbad. We really liked the facility there and the quality of the instructors. We have found the Carlsbad location instructors to be just as professional, knowledgeable, and has quite a family-like environment. Professor Aarons genuine commitment to teaching shines as he encourages the students to use skills they have learned while training and builds on their strengths rather than weaknesses which is huge in teaching anyone a new skill. The students train with lower belt students to build confidence and higher belt students to create both a desire and a need to increase their skill set. My boys have come away with increased self-confidence, a sense of family at the training facility, a lot of self-defense knowledge and have had fun doing it. The facility is very clean, has lots of parking and roll up doors for training days when its hot. We are so happy we found Gracie Barra Carlsbad when we moved here!

The school has amazing instructors from Professor Aaron Collins to a number of talented higher belts.Very clean gym with lots of mat space. Highly recommend it to beginners and those who have trained at other schools with less than positive results.

Phenomenal place to train. The coaches are all very knowledgeable and friendly, and theres a good spectrum of skill levels and sizes among students. The coaches provide deeply technical instruction for experienced students, as well as basic fundamental instruction for young students and beginners.

My 6-year-old daughter started taking classes at this gym about 7 months ago, and she loved it immediately. What started as groupon exposure to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu turned into a lifelong pursuit. This is my second martial art and by far my favorite due to the family friendly environment and instructors. You wont find a better workout that incorporates sport, practical self-defense and fun. Its so awesome to have a consistent workout that can serve a purpose if the problem should ever arise. EVERYONE should know how to ground fight because thats where they all end up.

Ive been training here for around four-and-a-half years. Having visited a couple of other clubs/gyms/dojos/schools, and talked with a lot of people about their experiences, I feel that I can say with some confidence that this place is truly unique.Its a pretty scary thing walking into a Brazillian Jiu Jitsu gym for the first time -- you know nothing about the sport, maybe you feel like youre out of shape -- I know I did, and it takes tremendous courage to approach any new situation like this, especially one where the sport is centered around submitting your opponent via chokes, armlocks, etc. Im lucky: I live close to this awesome gym. If I hadnt been so lucky, Im not sure I would have made it back for a second visit!The owner, Aaron Collins, has cultivated an environment wherein students of all sizes and shapes are both welcomed and challenged at the same time. The tone of this place is amazing -- the students are genuinely trying to master the sport and master themselves, and a lot less focused on victory than on growth and learning. That tone flows from Professor Aaron.I started about six months ahead of one of my sons. Unlike his brother, hed struggled previously to find a sport that he identified with, but something about jiu jitsu, and most definitely something about Professor Aaron, made him want to try jiu jitsu, and hes remained committed. Impeccably clean, modern facilities, big matt space, world class teaching (I have trained in a lot of places, believe me) and a great culture of respect.I have trained in Australia, Argentina, US, Indonesia in multiple gyms and I can say that this is one of the best for the reasons above.Professor Aaron Collins is a lovely, friendly guy and the team welcomed me very quickly. I would also rate him as one of the most impressive (therefore scary! :) guys I have rolled with, simply on the basis of his attention to detail and ability to make me feel like he could submit me simply any time he wanted to. Not many Black belts have that innate ability, so this speaks to the quality of the BJJ at this dojo. ie. very high.Additionally, and perhaps most importantly, he is an exceptional *teacher*, in that he understands the skills of teaching the principals, which is just as important as being technically proficient.I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to train somewhere with great facilities, a traditional and respectful culture and very high quality instruction.
