This gym is one of the best I been to! I love all the great workout equipment that is offered! I love the variety of amenities at this gym! I have yet to take advantage of everything offered but all the cardio & weight machines I have used have been up to par! I live in Santa Cruz & prefer this gym to others I have been to! Thank you in shape!

High quality equipment, clean surroundings, everything operating smoothly. Great club. A little more expensive than other clubs, but very much so worth it with the additive of a pool, hot pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room. Full spectrum weights and equipment.

Not a bad spot but the staff seems a bit unconcerned about keeping members. Had my kid join and my wife . The same day I was confronted and when I explained she just turned 13, i was ignored and the staff member asked my child directly. Im a liar? My kid answered answered yes but after was very uncomfortable and asked, did she think I was too short? She doesnt feel welcomed back my wife is upsetI feel accused of lying, and Im a returning member Who pays for 3 memberships. Consider this when joining. Im likely moving to toadal fitness.

I’ve been an In-Shape customer for a good time now. Started in salinas, moved to Monterey and everything seemed to be perfectly fine. Recently, I moved to Watsonville and decided to start going to the one in Santa Cruz. For the month of July I had no issues; however, I went today and they didn’t let me in because my membership wasn’t allow there. The front desk personnel didn’t even try to solve the issue or offer ways to stay as a customer. Instead, she acted rude and gave me short answers. I had add my friend to my membership, and she didn’t even get to join me for one single day!!! Very very disappointed!!! I hope I can get my reimbursement for her registration. Way to kill my workout time! I decided to cancel my membership and truly believe they should train their employees how to treat clients, and explain to clients that “universal membership” does not cover every location! Gyms should notify members if there are any changes or restrictions to certain memberships.

When I first signed up this gym seemed like a great fit. However, over the last year I have realized how unorganized it really is. The fact that during a pandemic, they have everyone using the same spray bottles and same towels to dry off all their equipment (maybe replacing them I am not sure but potentially 1-3 times a day with a total of 10 bottles throughout the gym) is pretty disappointing for a $60 a month gym membership. Half the gym has been closed for majority of my membership, until recently they opened up a decent sized outside area that was somewhat equitable to the building they have had closed for the last year. Also if you cancel your membership (even due to concerns of covid) they charge you for a complete 30 days AFTER you have closed your membership. Classic SLIMY gym policies that I thought were on the way out in 2021, but I guess if you like poor business practices and drinking bang energy drinks then Inshape is still holding true to the standard.

When all equipment is working this is a great space to workout and recover. The functional playground is definitely a huge plus. Plenty of equipment options for all fitness levels. Towels included. Very hard to find cold plunge here is a great recovery tool.

This is only one In-Shape location in Santa Cruz, and it is cool it exists. A lot of open spaces. Platinum level membership required.When I first time came here, I get confused, because the club has two separate buildings on the left and on the right side. The main facility on the right side of the parking lot and the smaller one on the left side.

In-Shape in Capitola is awesome! Nice big facility, multiple clean free weight areas, lots of cardio equipment, outdoor exercise area, several class workout rooms, spin area, indoor and outdoor pools, hot tub, sauna, cold plunge, and a great daycare area with cool climbing setup. Plus, you get free prizes for getting in the Fit Club by checking in 12 times in one month. Highly recommended!

*note* this review is from my experiences several years ago. I am willing to change my review after I go in and see if this facility has changed. Several years ago I had the most insane experiences with the childcare dept. I do not consider it safe. No, I will not be talking about those experiences as it is above and beyond. If you have children in the daycare, make sure to ask them every day about how the staff interact with them. I also noticed that the management seems to respond to all the one star reviews and genuinely care about the patrons. This impressed me. Until I noticed that the responses on every single review with a low rating had an apology and contact info to discuss issues. That is, until the one and only member who brought up lgbtq said they were leaving due to feeling unsafe. That review got nothing more than a good luck on your fitness goals. It seemed....so off. That had me shook. This place is close to my house. I want to go here for the convenience. But the reviews, and my experiences as a younger person years ago make me feel like I wont be safe here. I really hope its not the way it looks to be. There is new management, so maybe it will be ok?🤷

This is a nice place. The equipment is all up to date and is maintained well. The staff are friendly and helpful. They are concerned with patron and staff safety, which is important in these times. I only wish they would open up the second building, as the weight room gets crowded some times. But that means the club is popular.

In-shape Capitola is the best. Ive been here for 5 years, and it helped me get into the best shape of my life. No judgement zone, great employees, friendly members, and amazing classes.To some people its a second home, and I personally cant imagine how my life would be without this company offering their service. At the gym we learn how failure leads to success in life, and to have a love for self improvement. The best thing I can do every day is to bring myself to my personal limit or to failure here. It leads to my growth and the path to successfully achieving what Im working towards. A great life lesson for me in general that also breed a healthy nutritional diet, and lifestyle.I hope this place stays alive through covid, I owe a good portion of my happiness to the existence of this particular gym.Thank You

I have been with In-Shape for a couple years and always ignored the things I didnt like because they had the weights I needed. This past couple days though have been nothing but a nightmare. They have officially​ closed the annex doors facing the New Leaf parking lot for Fire Exits. Not only does this force me to walk around and be in danger of getting hit by a car, but it also puts other people in danger who come in the AM when its​ still dark. Let alone older people who might have to park in New Leaf and cross through the Annex to get to the main gym. Its unpractical and unsafe. The bathrooms are disgusting! I dont know about the men​, but the women​ I feel like every time I​​ step foot near the showers I am going to​​ athletics foot or something. I find CLUMPS of hair all over the place, mold and just general garbage​. I understand its a huge business, but even so employ​​e people to clean them. When I last went they had no rags or cleaners in the annex gym which is just disgusting​. They seem to never have enough of anything and instead of fixing the problems they have they just buy a freaking ping pong table for people who are WORKING to play on? Over the years the quality of this gym has gone under and thats​ not even half of what upsets me, but I wont get into that until I speak with a manager. Im pretty close to just leaving and going to another gym that I know would be cleaner. Also they have no additional parking. Good luck avoiding the cars that like to speed through 41st when walking with no sidewalk.

After being a member of this gym for over a year on autopay without ever missing or making a late payment. I got hit with two months of dues while the gym was closed due to Cov19 whike members were receiving emails assuring everyone they wouldnt be charged. When I called them to get the charges reversed an extremely arrogant service rep told me too bad. When asked for a surpervisor or manager was told no one is available to take your calland we will call you back. Well still waiting for that manager to call me back a month later.Summary: In Shape Capitola STOLE $100 from a member during Covid 19 and couldnt care less.

Try getting ahold of a human to schedule a trainer or cancel your account. I dare you. Outside of that my experience at the Capitola facility for years was the usual mundane experiences of entitled Boomers not putting away equipment, resting or even socializing on machines between sets and staff nowhere to be seen on the floor when assistance was needed. People were getting their lockers and cars ripped off toward the tail end of my membership. And at one point I was finding piles of trash and discarded gin bottles in the parking structure everyday, leading me to rename it Gin Shape.

Great friendly place to work out. The monthly fee is more than reasonable, and I love the pool.

Inshape Capitola!installations are great! the 2 pools, the steam room & the spa are a real treat! But the staff are the ones that make this club to standout. They are nice, cool & helpful. They encourage you to keep coming. Classes are so good, without realizing i engaged myself in 3-5 classes daily. Instructors are so good! specially #barre, #yoga & my favorite #Zumba! (Except one that her class is more aerobics, she barely plays Latin music, nor move her hips, boring!) the others are the real deal! My favorite is Johnny, his class is a must to check out! 💃🕺 (I hope IS is paying Zumba instructors & the staff very well! They rock & are more than worthy of a good salary! Hope They arent get paid the minimum bcuz They are making INSHAPE owners to make very good $$$$. Best health club i been to. Been going for 3 years now and love the vibez.

Ive been a member for over a year now, have had some great workouts here, and have been treated very well by the staff (usually, not always). However, Im frustrated by a few things that scream poor management. 1. The annex gym closes at different times during the week than the main building and keeps changing (theres equipment there that is not in the main club such as a descent decline bench to work the core), which is confusing. Ive been approached in a confrontational manner by the club staff in the past when I didnt know it was closing time for that building, which was uncomfortable. 2. There sometimes is not ONE staff member available for questions or concerns (broken equipment, out of hand towels or sanitizer, etc). Are they short-staffed? 3. The mens bathroom can get gross and needs to be cleaned more often due to heavy traffic. 4. Theyve closed the entryway to the New Leaf parking lot, forcing members to either walk all the way around the strip mall by 41st or hop the back fence (not fun but saves you several minutes) to get a pre/post workout snack next door, which is ridiculous. 5. Several frequently-used machines have been broken for weeks, which is just not acceptable. 6. Today due to CA wildfires, Santa Cuzs air quality index reads at 166, unhealthy. Im still young but have sensitive lungs, so was hoping the gym would be sensitible enough to use the A/C rather than have several windows open. Not so: windows were open all around the main gym and annex, and when initiating closing them...more than one of the other members aggressively insisted that they stay open, so the staff was reluctant to keep them closed. I couldnt work out as a result (I live over an hour away in the mountains) and reportedly other members had called ahead to ask if the air inside was higher quality than outside. Im sorry, In Shape Capitola, but Im not impressed. Too many issues and not enough consideration. Ill be reconsidering membership and seeking other options.

Clean gym, friendly staff, plenty of different areas to work out and equipment to use. Kids zone was used often and sounds like a fun time for the younger crowd. Pool indoors with kids hours as well as a large lap pool outside, hot tub, sauna, and steam room. Also, one of the few places I have seen a cold dunk pool, which I didnt use often, but was nice when I did. Can be difficult to get parking during the busiest times of the day, but work going if you can find a spot.

Hot tub, sauna, lap pool!!!!A good way to relax after your workout up stairs or across the way with weights or if youre doing a yoga session or martial arts class. 👍

It’s clean, bright and good vibes. I only use the pool area for water aerobics classes and each time it’s a fun experience. The teacher is hilarious and you always see gym staff walking around cleaning up. 👍🏼

Good gym. Good location, and the club has everything you need to get a good work out. I use the lap pool three times a week and weights two times a week. The employees are always great and the place is clean. Lots of classes, which I dont typically use, however, they are available. Two thumbs up!

This Club has been around awhile. The employees are polite. The clubs is clean and enjoy working out there. I have been a bodybuilder for over 15 years, and I am always looking for a good club to work. This club is the best fit for me in Santa Cruz.

Ive been in hundreds of gyms. This is fairly good for fitness. Free weights are a little lacking and the room has a dark cave feel. Weight rooms are supposed to be bright says Arnold.

The child care staff and facility have been wonderful the past two years. We started our child at 6 months old. He is 2 1/2 now and Loves playing at In-Shape!

Came to In-Shape Capitola to see about membership, I was immediately welcomed and helped by Albert. He was happy to help me with all my questions and was extremely energetic and smiling the entire time he was helping me. I haven’t been this welcomed in any gym that I’ve ever been in. I usually don’t write reviews about customer service. But Albert exceeded all my expectations! Thank you so much!

Problems with this club continue to mount despite feedback. Women’s locker room (pool side) needs at least double the cleaning schedule it gets. Shower stalls typically have hair plastered all over the walls and blocking the drain, with wet towels and empty shampoo bottles on the floor. The steam room is functional less than half the time and currently out of commission for over the past month. Cold plunge seems indefinitely closed. Women’s locker room was burglarized twice, with locks cut. This past week was the second time the entire club closed down mid day due to water outage. Fees recently raised. One plus: the employees.

In shape capitola is my happy place. I couldnt ask for a better gym to take my family. Not only is the facility clean, great child care and top of the line equipment. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. With so many classes to take my only complaint would be, not enough time in the day. I highly recommend in shape capitola for familys, couples, singles really anyone looking for a great gym experience.

In-Shape is a great gym. Employees are hit and miss though. Half of them wont even acknowledge you or say hi when you walk in. For all the things the gym has to offer, youd think theyd hire more friendly employees. But if you dont mind the awkward entrance, youll enjoy it. Ive been going for years.

Great weights, machines, bikes and classes. The spa is nice with not only a sauna but a steam room also.

Good place. I wish they would remodel the locker rooms. *edit*. Raise my rating one star because they have shown me the best sauna I have ever used.

Friendly and casual atmosphere. Highly recommend training with one of their personal trainers (Sly my fav). Because the club is so large with so many options; it keeps the training sessions fresh and new each time. Especially enjoy the outdoor training area.

Ive been in Capitola off and on and I always try to find a place where I can lift some weights when Im travelling. This is an okay gym to stop by. Not very hard core though, more an average Joe kinda gym. Very friendly. It has the right equipment and the staff is nice. Its spacious with different big sections. It even has a nice outdoor area.

Actually the facilities are clean and the staff work hard to give the members a great experience. Members take that for granted and sometimes are unappreciated and sometimes abusive to the staff. Overall its a great experience and thanks for all the great work the staff members do. We really appreciate it!

Best gym in the area (that Im aware of). Some of their shortcomings are that they often run out of clean towels at times when it leads me to believe that they didnt plan very well. They could also do a better job at educating people to wipe down the machines they use when theyre finished sweating on them (signs, etc.) - seems like common courtesy, but we all know how that goes.

Best club in Santa Cruz! With certain conditions you can be paying $20/mo! It has huge area and lots of equipment. Plus hot tub, cold tub, dry, and steam sauna. I like it a lot!

Charged me an Annual $40 Service Fee after I canceled my account with no prior notice or authorization. Avoid Inshape. They close the 2nd building that is not the main one before stated closing times and is always busy no matter what time you go. Employees are great and friendly buy Corporation is not.

Friendly staff and great people, but the upper management staffing and cleaning policies often result in filthy conditions. Please hire a cleaning company! That is the single most important thing you can do to improve the gym experience. Its disturbing to see hair everywhere, foamy hot tubs and and bandages lying around the locker room.

Lets start with the positive.Facility is very large since there are two separate buildings. Staff is friendly (Manager Mark is awesome. Super helpful and all-around nice guy). Despite what a lot of other reviews say, I found the facility to be pretty clean (there are a ton of members but I always see staff around cleaning). All in all a very nice facility.Th reason I am leaving is because after three years I just got tired of the members. (All experiences mentioned in this review came from prominent members who were there regularly) I have been told by a member that I should shave my beard or I might be considered a terrorist. I have listened as two men in their mid to late fifties complained that woman who work at Saturn look so unattractive with all those piercings and tattoos. I dont know why anyone eats thereI WOULD ADVISE THAT IF YOU IDENTIFY AS LGBTQ YOU CHOOSE A DIFFERENT FACILITY. While I was in the sauna I overheard three men plan to break into a members locker whom they suspected of being gay and rummage through his things to try and find proof that he had been photographing other members while changing. The final straw was today when some woman very openly joked about 2 trans people dating and said now the freaks with the other freak.As a member for three years this has consistently been the vibe and as an LGBT member I just never felt welcome. I love Santa Cruz because it is so progressive and coming to In Shape feels like stepping back into the 1950s.If you own a good pair of headphones (or the above doesnt bother you) then I will reiterate the facility itself is great, but at the end of the day I want to feel safe and welcome and sadly that was never the vibe from this In Shape.

This place is so clean. I love it here alone for the fact that its saunas and weight room doesnt make me feel disgusting. Staff are always seen running around cleaning and that alone deserves 5-stars compared to the other 3-4 gyms I have been a member of. (No, not all in Santa Cruz)

This gym is great. I came over here from Capitola fitness which is a dump.The monthly price is very fair for this gym.Tons of equipment to use and never have to wait. If something I want is being used I can always go to the overflow next door but that is rare, even though the gym is very popular. The facility is always very clean. I see the cleaners in there every night b4 closing. The locker rooms are always clean and the pool area is always clean. Staff are very friendly. I love the incentives like the free t shirts. I use this gym 7 days a week.The outdoor facility looks very nice, I dont use it but I plan to start working that into my routineMy only complaint is that there seems to be some machines in the cardio room that constantly break down and go out of order for a very long time (months) without repair. It might be time to replace them. I use these machines a lot and I use them rather intensely so it would be nice to know they are sturdy.I will keep using this gym for a long time.

I kinda liked this place until I decided to cancel. What a nightmare. I was an on-time, paying customer for a year - didnt go for last three months (but still paid), and when I decided to cancel, had to jump thru all kinds of hoops. And with one final jab, they require 30 days notice to cancel - so one more month of dues. Dirty. Buyer beware.While Im here, I will mention that locker rooms were always filthy. For all the money you pukes take from people, HIRE SOMEONE TO LEEP THE PLACE CLEAN.In-Shape is In Need✌🏼ONE DAY AFTER POSTING THIS REVIEW....the manager, Colby, called to let me know they were refunding the last moths dues. I have been along time member of what used to be Spa Fitness which was bought by In Shape several years ago. The new ownership has been a disaster. While they did up-grade the facilities and buy new gear, they cheaped out and the remodeled locker rooms are falling apart already. The main issue is that they tragically underpay their staff so there is massive turn-over. The facility is always filthy. It is not unusual to walk into the locker room for an 8 or 9 am class and find it disgusting from the previous day with trash and hair everywhere. Today I had to hit three showers to find one with soap. I talked to a staff member and he replied that managers do not come in on weekends and corporate in Stockton is impervious to any customer feedback. The only thing that keeps me coming back are the great aerobic and spin instructors. If you are easily grossed out this is not the gym for you. It is so sad they took a great little gym and have run it into the ground.

Ive been working out at in shape for about a year now so I know that there are a lit of towels that accidentally go home with members but today during my workout on the annex side I made a comment about getting towels over there and the manager Kolby M. Hand delivered a towel to me while I was on a cardio machine. The managers have changed a few times while Ive been working out here but the current managers are the most charismatic so far! I love this gym!

Great staff! Awesome gym with plenty of space and equipment. And the Fun zone staff is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING with the kids and babies!!!

Ive been a patron of hr building for 30 yrs. Since In-Shapepurchased they have done extensive furnishing. All for the better. However....the staff is not nearly as friendly and the membership dues have increased 70%. If there was another game in town Id leave.

Great classes, and I love the child care, but it’s super difficult to get to down 41st and the parking garage is difficult to navigate so I tend to try to avoid the busy times which means missing the best classes.

This place has constant maintenance issues. The steam room has been out for over a month and nothing has been done about it. The locker rooms are dirty and cleaned half assed. The old guys (who think the hair dryer in the locker room is for drying off their balls) are only a fraction of my frustration with this gym. The cold plung is always broken or dirty 90% of the time.... They are always out of towels...I could go on... The people who work there are friendly and nice but there is clearly a Managment problem. I’m looking for a new gym. I have chosen to go there for as long as I have because it’s the closest one to my house, but I’m starting to look for a new gym.

Is there a zero star option because one seems like too much for this place. I went in for pricing info and the membership advisors made me feel so unbelievably uncomfortable. Their sales tactics are transparent and tacky, including bringing in others into the conversation to see what we can do and berade me about my goals and how many times I eat a day?!?and introducing me to everyone including the janitor (he didnt even know his name), a million questions that were forceful and rude all inclusive with a hoorah jock mentality. Their hot tub sauna area is over 20 years old and looks like an outdated dirty bathhouse. I even thought, maybe it was just an off day, called them up to see if there was any female advisors, thinking they would potentially have more compassion, no such luck. I will never give this place my business.

InShape has made significant improvements since taking over. I love the new cardio equipment and the TVs in the one area. My dues did not really increase much and the changes are great. The old club was run down and ugly. Thanks InShape.I would like new bathroom upgrades in the one section.
