The scenic tour is accompanied by a pre-recorded narration, which is badly outdated. Cringe-worthy language and slant regarding Samuel de Champlain and his discovery of the area and interaction with the original inhabitants of the region. The views were lovely, we enjoyed learning about the local geology, and got ideas about places to visit. But, seriously, times have changed, they have to update their canned narration to reflect changing values.
As far as these types of cruises go, weve been on better (Lake George, NY!). The commentary was dry which made enjoying the views challenging as it wasnt always clear what we were looking at. That being said, it was really nice to be out on the water and you can have a lunch on the boat which is such a nice treat for the kids.
I cannot speak highly enough of this cruise!!! We unfortunately did not get a reservation but we’re feeling lucky so we walked down to the ticket booth when boarding began and asked if they had room for two and they DID! We had the time of our life! We went in the beginning of October and it was a bit chilly but we chose to sit out front on the bow of the boat. Best decision ever! The sunset over the mountains was magnificent. We seriously had the best night of our lives and that’s a bit dramatic but please see for yourself! No one could stop taking pictures but they do not even do the experience justice. Such a great time and such a great memory we will cherish forever. We will be back multiple times I hope!!!
Perfect little trip around the lake. We tried to do the sunset dinner -- I ordered the pizza and tried to book but then it came back as Full - so we did the 4pm 1.5hr tour - which was fine. I was surprised the the pizza I ordered for the dinner cruise - then transferred over to the 4pm. So we had the pizza too. Was really great. Didnt mind the narration at all - didnt think it was intrusive. Help staff was a little slow, but these are tough times & it was pretty full, so...
The cruise was fabulous; just wish they would shut some of the garage style doors. It was sooo windy that tables were blown over and food went flying. We would go again, but not when wind is high on dry land because the winds are higher on the lake.
My girlfriend is disabled and has a scooter and was mistreated by one of the ship’s captains. Rolling his eyes and saying now we have to figure out what to do with a scooter now. He was rude and offered no help. We went on the sunset cruise Saturday Oct 2nd. I am reporting it to the better business bureau and will be making phone calls. It was completely inappropriate
We had our company party on the boat and it was great! The staff was very accommodating and excellent to work with - both before the party from a logistical sense and during the party from the hospitality side. The food was excellent, especially the BBQ station and mac n cheese. Highly recommend for a large event.
We had the most amazing time. We took a sunset cruise. The weather was beautiful. My beautiful wife surprised me with champagne and a special dessert served by our charming waiter. Highly recommend this, we will do it again.
Did the Harvest Moon Dinner Cruise. Great dinner and great scenery along the Southern portion of Lake Champlain
Food was very bland, a few dollars to put into food prep, marinating and spices would make a world of difference. Basically cafeteria food. Chef Ramsey would not approve. Beautiful sunset! Id probably explore elsewhere next time.Update: To the owner,.. Ive read your responds and Ive tried your food. I have no doubt our canine companions in many countries would find this food worthy of praise and accolade. I would however reiterate, that for humans who consumed the same food, and who pay for it, isnt worth the cardboard card table and 20 year old tablecloth is was placed on we all had the unfortunate pleasure of eating off of. And since you clearly have not a single clue who Ramsey is, he has been awarded 16 Michelin stars throughout his life. An actual successful Chief aside... Lipstick on a pig is all this experience was... I could go on, but clearly youre in denial.
Reasonably priced for the experience you receive. My girlfriend and I are from out of state, and we chose to do the Lunch on the Lake experience. The lunch menu is predetermined and properly portioned, so dont expect an overflowing plate. With that said, everything was made to perfection! There is an extensive selection if alcoholic beverages and cocktails to choose from (all cocktails can be made non alcoholic as well!). It is a very soothing ride, and the narration is interesting with a good bit of humor thrown in. If you are visiting Burlington for any period of time, consider adding this experience to your list! They have breakfast, lunch, and dinner cruises as well as non-meal themed trips including a starlight cruise.
My husband and I took the sunset cruise and the views were beautiful. We had great seating at the stern of the ship, the food from the cafe was delicious, and the employees were very friendly and accommodating. It was a truly enjoyable and relaxing time. We will definitely go again in the future!
All of the staff was wonderful today, EXCEPT the man at the ticket booth. He snapped at me yelling “You can’t come in here!!!” when I mistakenly walked in the door, (which was open by the way) of the ticket booth to get my boarding passes. My husband and I were rushing with two young kids and I didn’t see the window at the front.Yes, I made a mistake, but was very taken aback by his unprofessionalism. After that our experience on the boat was wonderful. Our waitress was so sweet to our kids and we all had a great time, and the pizza was yummy!
We had a memorable event as we were in town last September and able to partake in the Spirit of Ethan Allens Harvest Moon Evening Dinner Cruise. We we able to watch the moon rise and set over Lake Champlain. The buffet dinner included roast turkey with mashed potatoes and apple crisp. Highly recommend taking any cruise with them. We have a memory that will last a lifetime for us.
We loved the dinner cruise! Great atmosphere and DJ!
It was great! The staff was amazing and so was the food. We had a wonderful time!
The boat was nice. The food was not. Our party of 6 ordered 3 apps. 2 came and 30min later the 3rd came after being asked again for it. My dinner was supposed to be gluten free. They put gravy on my plate and I didnt realize it until it was too late. I was very sick. My dinner sat on the table for almost 40min before the rest of the table was served. I wasnt eating without them and by the time there food arrived mine was beyond cold.
Had a company trip on this boat and was more than disappointed. The buffet was a mess. The Mac and Cheese was cold, the rolls were rock hard, and the meat was all fat. When it came to the bar things got even worse. One bartender for a three story boat. Our party had an open bar and it would take people 15-20 minutes to stand in line and get a drink. On top of that this one bartender was in charge of making drinks for the upper decks which stalled our drinks significantly.Overall, for the price I don’t recommend this experience as it seemed they cut corners tremendously on food and purposely slow down their drink service to save money. Our party had things pre-bought and it’s shows that once they have your money they stretch it as far as they can. When your coworkers overwhelmingly say they wouldn’t want a company trip here again that says it all.
Not transparent about the price. They force you to pay a 22% tip on the food already included in the buffet. A tip is supposed to be optional and not an extra sneaky way to add more fees. It is supposed to be blank and up to the discretion of the consumer; not prefilled. We ordered about $14 worth of extra and were forced to tip $15. Seems insane to be forced to tip over 100% of what you actually ordered. Happy to tip for good service, but dont force the consumer. If tips is how you pay staff, then pay them better. Felt robbed at sea. It already costs $$$$ to get on. Why not be upfront EXACTLY what the insane mandatory fees are so consumers can make informed decisions.
My wife and I did the afternoon narrated tour. boat is in great condition, the wait staff is very attentive and the 1 1/2 hour trip was excellent and informative!
Took my family on the Lunch Cruise and have to say WE LOVED IT!!!! Had some setbacks but the staff were awesome!I will be fair in saying the lunch service could be improved and offering a kids portion/meal would be ideal. But....We had a great time!!!! Well be back for the Dinner Cruise as well.
First, I would like to start by saying that although we did not get refunded and weren’t allowed on the boat, that it was probably a blessing in disguise. After reading negative reviews, it’s apparent this company lacks class and integrity as well as providing poor food/drink services. The man at the ticket booth (Michael) falsely questioned the validity of my service animal. You are to ask two questions, if the animal is a service animal and what the task the animal performs in regard to your disability. You are NOT entitled to question the disability or degrade someone based on their disability. When asked if we could get a refund, he stated he could watch my service animal (major red flag and very creepy). He then stated we could take our refund issue up with the front office. How can Michael tell us to redirect our concerns to the main office YET he is the main office? Extremely sketchy and unprofessional. Also of note, I find it funny he was worried about losing his license in regard to my service animal yet wasn’t wearing a mask or even maintaining social distancing protocols. His blatant lack of respect for the safety of others, especially customers, speaks volumes to the integrity of his character.
Nice cruise, good food, fun atmosphere.
The ship was nice, but the dinner was not exactly as advertised. Dinner said Beef Brisket, but it was no where to be seen. Told them I had a dairy allergy they told me their chicken was Marsala, it wasnt it was a cream sauce (didnt know until after I ate it), they also didnt tell me that there dessert was dairy too... add to this to the fact that they told me it was a comedy show with dinner, but it was more like a bar mitzvah party gone bad than a comedy show.. and interactive scavenger hunt on the boat...
Food was good with lots of variety. The cruise was enjoyable but very crowded. Not enough areas outside to be able to enjoy the view.
We took the sunset cruise on this boat.We pre ate dinner before we came on...if we had known the food would be inexpensive and good we would’ve ordered dinner on the boat. They have a pretty good menu- we had some appetizers and they were good.A varied drink menu. The wait staff has their work cut out for them as it’s not easy to work on a boat but they are really nice and hard working. We saw an amazing sunset on the New York side of the lake as the sun set below the Adirondack Mountains.Get your camera ready and make sure you’ve got a good grip on it so you don’t drop it overboard- it happens to the best of us.If my review was helpful please consider selecting the “like” button below.Happy sailing if you choose to cruise on this boat!
I have not been there this year but have in the past. From reading their website it looks like they are open for the season this year. Yay! I have been on the sunset cruise which was amazing. It lasted for about 90 minutes and there were some beautiful views of the sunset over lake champlain. They have food available to buy and a bar on board. Highly recommend.
Good value. Staff was super friendly. We did the narrated scenic tour. Very relaxing and wonderful views and history of Lake Champlaign.
What a delicious surprise. Great value and taste.
They dont let you take your leftovers with you and dont allow you to bring food or drink with you. Otherwise, it was nice.
Easy to reserve tickets. Great ride. Great on board service.
We took the sunset cruise. It is a 2.5 hour cruise. You are told no outside food or drink is allowed on board and you are welcome to leave your water bottles in a cooler for your return. That seemed kind of odd with everyone having similar waters. Now when you got on the boat you have no idea where to go. Apparently it was a dinner cruise too. So they had a special area that you arent allowed in. That area had a DJ and dancing. The other places you go all seemed like restaurant seating. We planned to eat so went to the bow of the boat and got the picnic for two and asked for sparkling water which was an option. The waitress asked if I was ok with mango sparkling water. I was. But then she brought me out a caffeinated tea mango seltzer. Caffeine is a big no no for me with migraines so I told her I couldnt have it and she gladly brought me seltzer ain instead. The food was really good in the basket. We had warm french bagettes, cheese, crackers, fruits and vegetables. It was all yummy. After dinner we had no idea what to do. Every area seemed to have seating with menus. We were perplexed. We did eventually find some bench seating. The sunset over the lake was gorgeous. The ride was pretty calm.Besides that it was pretty dull. It said we would have music and there was none. We just wandered aimlessly around the boat looking for somewhere to sit. It would have been nice if they opened the dance floor to everyone or at least played some music as they were supposed to. It also would be nice to have areas where people who werent eating could sit and not feel obligated to buy something.
Wonderful cruise around the lake with great food and service. One of the best things we found in Burlington!
Great cruise of Lake Champlain. Good beer and beautiful views!
Beautiful vistas, highly competent and friendly staff, good food. Great for locals and visitors.
This was a lovely cruise. We went on the Champagne on Champlain Brunch; the food was delicious and plentiful. I recall quiche, baked ham, very tasty cheesy potatoes, hash. The food was served very promptly after we started sailing and the staff was very attentive and polite. The views were absolutely gorgeous--I live in the area so Ive visited the lake my whole life, but this tour showed me reaches of the lake that were new to me. After eating, you can move about the boat freely and enjoy the views, which were gorgeous. If you go on the upper deck, you can listen to a historical narration, which was quite interesting. My only complaint was the music, which was cheesy and a little annoying, but everything else was perfect.
Staff was very friendly and the food was amazing. We really enjoyed the narrated history tour.
Had a great time from the buffet, music, staff and fireworks. Would go again
Nice time on the water with good food and views.
Look, its a boat. If youre into that idea its fine. If youre not, its sorta like being held hostage on a platform full of gnats and expensive, mediocre booze. The artichoke dip is a decent marriage of cheese, garlic, and chips, tho.
Fantastic time had by the 3 of us even in the rain
My wife and I and family had a large group for one of the last Lobster cruises of the year in 2019. Food was spectacular and very well presented and organized. Staff was amazing and paid close attention to all details. Bathrooms were spotless as was the entire vessel. Great dj on both floors!I would highly recommend the Spirit of Ethan Allen for any private family function or corporate event. Topnotch organization!!!!
Very nice dinner cruise, excellent buffet with our tour.
What a wonderful crew! Captain Andy, Wilson, Zante & Rodolfo, you guys made us so comfortable. The views are phenomenal and the food and drinks yummy! Thank you we had a lovely time and will be back another time.We did the outdoor sunset and were more than impressed. Social distancing was very much observed from the time you check-in until the time you disembark.I would definitely do it again!
A must take tour of lake Champlain that talks about the long history that made the lakeside towns
Beautiful sunset Cruise and good food
Loved the comedy cruise and the food was magnificent!
What a perfect summer evening. We experienced sharing sunset on the Ethan Allen in peace with Crew, Staff and Passengers from all over the world. What a refreshing experience at this time in our world! The crew commanded the boat with such care. The sailing experience was navigated calmly. Gentle breezes, and backdrops of New York State and Vermonts scenic mountains, painted with changing colors from the setting sun gave us a wealth of scenic pictures. We enjoyed watching scull rowing, divers off high rocky ledges, and relaxed enjoying the offerings of cheeses, bread, fruit, wine in a checkered-clothed picnic basket - beautifully presented by the waiter. The highlight was the extraordinary sunset - deeply colorful in its changing phases, with a clear sharp moon adding its light to the scene. Thank you for a perfect sail.
Very good. Educational. Great lunch
Great !
Perfect day, great crew.
Had a fantastic 10am cruise on a beautiful day. Informative narrated cruise.
Loved the dinner Cruise
Beautiful view of Lake Champlain. I recommend it if youre in Burlington.
The food was pretty good considering it was on a boat. The portion was large as well, we ordered the nachos. The drinks were not strong, could have used a bit more alcohol. As the boat was full, you had to wait a bit for your food and drinks. I really appreciated how clean the cruise was and the enforcement of social distancing. All staff members wore a mask as well.
My fiance and I took the sunset cruise last week. The crew was very professional, drink prices were reasonable, and our appetizer was good (we got the crab stuffed mushroom). There was a wild storm during the last 45 minutes of our cruise and the crew did a good job of getting everyone seated (socially distanced) inside the lower deck.
Fantastic views from the boat. Good running commentary.
Amazing sunset on a warm summer day. Is there ever not one?
Loved it what a great experience! Beautiful views, we went with my ladies for my bachelorette so much fun! great service when we ordered drinks and food on the boat. Everyone so friendly!!
Great sundown cruise.
Great food and experience!
Beautiful and relaxing! And the crew made the all experience just wonderful. I will definitely come back. I loveeeed it!!!
After reading the reviews, Im not sure I was on the same cruise but the map confirmed it. My family and I had a different experience. This is a great cruise for a beautiful sunset experience just dont order anything. Low staff will eventually give you your drinks, and your food might be undercooked but still hot. Your cake might also be stale but at least its edible.Enjoy the sunset ditch the service
Beautifl boat ride definitely this you must do. More than once.
We took the sunset cruise, not the dinner sunset cruise, and it was great. We got the chance to sit on the bow-at the front of the ship, and was able to grab a table as well too. The bow had tables and chairs, as well as benches to sit outside and enjoy the weather and view. There was table service available to us which included drinks-tea, coffee, soda, and alcohol, as well as some snacks-from pizza, desserts, spinach artichoke dip, and a cheese sampling basket. Nice spread, and the service was great too. Well worth the cost of the cruise. A great way to spend the evening, just enjoying the views, and the weather, as well as each others company. When we return to VT, we would love to come cruise with the Ethan Allen again. Thanks for a great experience.
Great Mothers day brunch all was beautiful.
They are Rude and Greedy. Not your typical American hospitality. They charges for infants.. It’s insignificant($2) but really!!!During Onboarding I was asked to put my child’s water bottle into a cooler as they don’t allow outside beverages. Lol..Food and servers ware okey. They cunningly try make money through side orders. $3.54 for drinks. It’s 80% ice with thick glasses without refill. We had to wait for almost 30 mins to get out coffee and it was cold. Also, by the time we got coffee we had reached dock and had to leave. They charged for it anyway.
This is the worst lunch cruise we have ever been on. Very misleading from the site also. I have had better in the lake winnipesaukee cruise in NH. We will never go there again. Not a good way to start our vacation. I had better food at Dennys.
Beautiful experience
Our Wedding was May 29,2020 I just finally was able to add pics to your site you all was friendly and helpful and we will be coming back on soon
