We rented e-bikes for the first time to ride out on the Burlington RailTrail to the Champlain Islands. Local Motion made the rental process easy. They taught us how to operate the bikes. The bikes were great. We had a lot of fun. In the summer, they even operate a bike ferry so you can cross the gap.
We rented bikes from Local Motion for a few hours and found them very helpful with the rental process and providing guidance to the trail. We had not made advance reservations, but they were able to accommodate us. Drop off was very simple. We would rent from them again.
Weve rented e-bikes from Local Motion a couple times now and have had wonderful experiences! Local Motion staff members are friendly and helpful. They took the time to make sure we knew how to operate the e-bikes and provide maps, explaining current detours. Look forward to renting from them again soon.
Very reasonable, great location, and excellent value. We rode to the other end of the causeway and back (including using the ferry). It was such a relaxing ride - flat, wide, not overly crowded (we were there on a Monday morning). The rental bikes were in fantastic shape. They looked like rentals - a scrape here, some fading there, etc - but they were mechanically perfect. Ive never ridden such a finely-tuned rental bike. Kudos to the mechanics!
Rented two adult bikes for a cruise up the Burlington waterfront bikeway. Very smooth transaction, workers were knowledgeable and pleasant. Bikes were in good condition. What a nice service to have, would happily go back.
Renting bikes and making our way up the Island Line Trail was the highlight of our trip to Burlington! We went as far as South Hero, which means we had the pleasure of riding the Bike Ferry. Everyone was so nice! We left in the morning and were back by early afternoon - it was so beautiful. We did the ride with two children (11 & 13) and while it was a stretch for the youngest, he has no regrets and talks about the trip fondly. Highly recommended.
My husband and I visited Burlington in July and after walking the trail were happy to find Local Motion to rent bikes so we could explore the full trail. We didnt make reservations, but had no issue obtaining bikes that fit each of us well. The bikes were well maintained, adjusted for our heights (Im 54 and hes 61) and came with bells. The employee who assisted us made sure we knew where we were going. We biked the whole way to the bike ferry and back. The rates were very reasonable and worth it.
I give very few 5 stars. They deserve this!Loved the whole experience from online to calling them to bikes to lovely bike path. Think about spending three hours and have fun. Remember that the way home is uphill oh so slightly so reserve some energy. Great parking as well in the deck. Great all around! Thanks LM!
Very easy to rent. Reasonably priced. Bike was in great condition. Would rent again.
The 1x7 gearing is sufficient for the trail into Lake Champlain, but we went on other trails and roads with steep hills, so we should have chosen the 24 speed hybrids. The trails through Intervale were awesome but we had a local person to guide us and would not have found them otherwise. The ferry wasnt running on weekdays so we could not cross the gap in the Lake Champlain trail. So close, but no cigar. They should put in a Zip Line! Or tell Bernie to get some federal money for a bridge, but it would need to be a high bridge or a drawbridge. The rental bikes could have used some maintenance. The headset nuts were loose on my bike so I had to stop occasionally to hand tighten them. On my wifes bike the seat flopped around but fortunately I had brought a set of Allen wrenches with me and was able to fix that. The bottle cage on my bike was very loose but I noticed that at the beginning and they tightened the bolts. For the fairly high prices they charge for rentals they should be maintaining the bicycles better.Whenever you rent bikes you should bring along some basic tools, a pump, Allen wrenches, an adjustable wrench, spare tube, and a patch kit. I dont know what happens if you have a flat tire all the way out in Lake Champlain-it would be a long walk back.I also recommend the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail. You rent bikes at Chucks Bikes in Morrisville ($20 for wonderful very newish gravel bikes) and ride the 35 miles round trip. It would be especially wonderful at peak fall foliage season. Chucks Bikes is an amazing old school shop.
Very friendly staff! We rented the tandem bike and they provided expert knowledge to help comfort and ease the mind of an inexperienced rider. Staff was very friendly and quick to help assist in check-in/check-out process. Prices were reasonable. Equipment and Safety was in excellent condition (not damaged, sanitized). The location was easy to find with signs directing to the shop and back to the bike path. Bike path was absolutely breath-taking and not very congested at the time we were riding. Over all experience is 5/5. Would highly recommend!
Super helpful! Helped us switch bikes a few times and were very patient and accommodating. Gave us very accurate instructions. We had a very pleasant time biking the Island Line Trail all the way to the ferry and back!
The Burlington Bike Path was a highlight of our Northeast trip and it all began at Local Motion. The staff was friendly and helpful. The prices were quite reasonable. The bikes were in great condition. And the location couldnt be any better. We just adjusted our seats and jumped right on the path for a scenic, 16-mile ride. I look forward to returning to Burlington and Ill get my bicycle from Local Motion.
Nice guys. Quick service. They even lowered the seat on my own bike for me! Very convenient to bike trail and parking. Biked to Leddy Park and back Walked to Spot on the dock for lunch after returning the bike. It was a lovely day!!
I did a last-minute bike rental and had a lovely time. Went north on the Bike Path; what a great resource that path is. And Local Motion is right there to rent us bikes. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Cant wait to come back and do it again.
Helpful and attentive service. Nice bikes
My wife and I arrived at Local Motion without a reservation, and were in line behind a group of 25 high school students. Amazingly, we were all processed and on our way within minutes – enjoying the wonderful bike path along the lake. The guys at Local Motion are fast, friendly and efficient – and the bikes are great.
Wonderful experience with Local Motion Bike Rentals in Burlington, Vermont, whenever weve rented bikes from them. They are always courteous, responsive, and helpful. Great value, too!
Exploring the beautiful Island rail bike trail is a must-do activity in Burlington VT, and Local Motion Bike Rentals enables that experience. They provide great service, have an easy online bike reservation system, great bike selection and service options and easy accessibility to the trail. Highly recommend !
My wife and I rented ebikes for the first time and the staff was very pleasant and helpful despite the fact that the shop was very busy. Loved the bike trail!! The bike ferry was great and staff on the boat was terrific.Enjoyed the experience so much we purchased ebikes when we returned home after our trip.
Great bikes! we had such a fun time biking to the causeway. the online rental was very streamlined and super easy to pick up/drop off. thanks!!
We rented bikes here in June 2021 to ride the bike path and causeway. The place is conveniently located. We did not have reservations so we had to wait a bit to get bikes. The bikes they gave us were OK but turned out to need derailleur adjustments. On several occasions, downshifting threw the chain into the spokes where it wedged behind the freewheel, which takes some effort to undo. Maybe because theyre so busy they dont always have time to put returned bikes up on the rack and check them out. But this problem was quite annoying and could have been worse if it had happened to someone less inclined to get their hands dirty. I told one of the employees about the problem when we returned and he said, OK, thanks.
Super easy process from booking to picking up/returning the bike. Will definitely use again!
It was an amazing ride with all the different aspects of the area from the beaches to the neighborhoods to the wetlands area and more. Bikes were good quality for rentals. The rental fees were a good price point and the bike lock was included.
Great location, convenient to lake and the bike trails. Friendly staff. Quality bikes, especially for rentals. Would rent from Local Motion again without hesitation.
Great service, great people. They helped me find a good route. The bike ferry was a blast!
Great availability. High quality bikes. Reasonable pricing and the staff was great!
Busy place on a beautiful Saturday but the guys who were working had it covered! Efficient, polite, and helpful are a few words that come to mind. Have to mention that the bike ferry captain is a hoot! Thanks for a glorious Saturday trip up to the Islands Local Motion:)
This place is great. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. 10/10 would recommend
The bikes were great. The transaction was easy. A great experience.
Good bikes, had a flat tire, got immediately other bike, and an extension of the renting time.
Friendly and quick service with quality rentals. The location is very convenient, too! It was a great way to spend our first day in Burlington - 100% recommend!
Got a last minute bike rental, though reserving in advanced seems like the way to go. Bikes were a bit uncomfortable and only fairly-well maintained, but they got the job done. Was also slightly pricy imo.
Great Service -very knowledgable staff. Will use them again on any Burlington trip.
Wanted to test Rad ebikes and this was the only place in NE I could find had them. Great bikes, great service and location is perfect. Worth the trip up from RI - thanks
They have friendly staff who are flexible with the timing of the reservations and provide free locks and helmets.
One of the highlights of our Vermont vacation was riding from downtown Burlington out to and over the Colchester Causeway. The bikes we rented from Local Motion were in excellent condition and service before and after was great.
Great prices, staff, availability, and location, which is conveniently located right along the Island Line bike trail!
Why would you have 25 bikes parked up and nothing available for someone who walks in at 4pm on a given day??!!!! Oh wait the internet booked it all. If internet people dont show up rent it out to ppl who show up in your doorsteps!!!. Better use Bettys, she nice and genuinely cares for the customers.
Everything worked great. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Rented a bike from here and rode it down the Lake Champlain path...TALK ABOUT AMAZING FOLIAGE.The bikes were in excellent shape. Free helmet and lock and the customer service was excellent.A little hard to find but the signs help you on the right path 👍🏽
One of Burlingtons best features
Very helpful staff!
Quick easy checkout. Great staff. Decent bikes, good location. Prices might be a bit high but worth it for excellent service.
Well maintained equipment and the check-in and out was super easy
Wow! Renting a bike from Local Motion was super cheap and easy! The staff was extremely helpful and were SUPER friendly! In addition to the great customer service by the staff, it was easy to pick out the bike that you want. The price is great for what you get and there are several options to add on to your bike to suit your needs. When you are in beautiful Burlington, you need a quick easy way to rent a bike, and Local Motion was just the way to do it. Also, I overheard someone explaining that they had caused some damage to the rented bycicle, but the staff at local motion did not charge them for the repair! Big plus!
Wasnt sure why this business was not rated yet, so here goes: its awesome. My wife and I rented two bikes from them for about 3 hours this past Thurs, 8/6/15 around 10:30am. We had never been to Vermont before a ride along the waterfront rail trail was recommended by a few people. Their rates are average (we paid approx $50 for the two bikes) but what was nice was all the amenities offered including helmets, bags, water bottles, locks, etc.. The service was also great. A young woman who was handy with a wrench got us completely set up and did so in a friendly and professional manner despite being very busy. We definitely would recommend them!
Get location right on the bike path! Super easy to rent and very nice bikes! Rates were fairly reasonable as well.
Friendly service, great selection of rental bikes. Great explanations of what to expect on our bike ride - along with a map of one detour. Was the high point of my familys visit to Burlington that day - thanks!
Local Motion is awesome! They do so much to get people walking and biking. From the highly visible efforts, such as the bike ferry, to the many areas which are under many folks radar, such as safe routes to schools and bike recycle vermont. The staff are motivated and focused. Its amazing how much is done by such a small organization.
Very helpful staff and decent selection of bikes if youre planning to bike the causeway.
Covenient location on the bike path with a good selection of basic bikes. Knowledgeable and helpful employees. A bit pricey.
Non-profit that provides bike rentals and information about biking in Burlington. Surprisingly high quality bikes for rent (Breezer and Opal) at reasonable prices. Right off the Burlington bike path, perfect location, simple set up.
Vermonts Walk/Bike advocacy group. What more is there to say?Disclaimer: I worked and volunteered for them in the past.Great, enthusiastic staff truly making an effort to assist community members and tourists alike in enjoying all that our beautiful area has to offer by way of bicycle. Check them out, rent a bike or get directions, theyre here to help! Or just look in the window while traversing the waterfront path. They operate the costly bike ferry to shuttle cyclists across The Cut between Colchester and South Hero, and also provide free bike valet parking at local events. Probably most importantly, Local Motion teaches about 5000 kids a year in Vermont schools how to ride bicycles safely, and consults for local towns on improving cycling infrastructure.
Local Motion does so many things from education programs, running a bicycle ferry in Lake Champlain, to re-building bikes for those who lack transportation. But for me the most important Local Motion work is the extensive representation of walking and bicycling they provide in public meetings, planning processes and advocacy efforts. This work is critical but often goes unacknowledged. Every time I attend a public meeting for a transportation project there is a member of Local Motion there. For example, without the efforts of Local Motion the bicycle lanes on Colchester Avenue in Burlington may not have happened. The staff at Local Motion represents us and advances active transportation of all types in our community.
Nice place for a bike ride, a walk, or run, on lake champlain, near a train, good path, great ppl. Totally recommend for visual beauty, mountain ans lake views.
Incredible friendly, and reasonable prices. Biking the Burlington Bike Path was our favorite activity of the weekend. Highly recommend!
We rented 3 bikes for a few hours. Staff was very helpful. the store is right on the bike path that run along lake Champlain
Prices are fairly high and the staff wasnt helpful when consulted about our path, despite not being busy. The bikes we rented were nice enough though, and theyre conveniently located on the bike path.
Near to the trail, cheap rentals rates with good quality of cycles.
The staff were super helpful and accomodating in switching us from a tandom to two hybrids, when we felt insecure in maintaing our balance. They also great with local reccomendations regarding what to do along the trail (theres a vineyard, which was perfect for a snack and some refreshment) and pointed us towards the nearest place we could watch the world cup match that had already started as our ride lasted a bit longer than expected. Thanks for helping us have a great day!
Great part of the trail. Very cool
Easy in and out service right on the path. Beautiful and fairly easy trail!
Great location. Bike path is one of the best.
Rented a bike trailer for our dog, no problem, nice folks.
Some of the females there can come off as snobby man haters, some.Build the bridge already to the Champlain isles, build it, stop screwing around.Nice bike rentals.
A must stop! Great people great equipment
Crappy poorly maintained bikes and poor customer service skills by the staff.
Cool idea, great to ride along the lake.
Good bikes, good people, good cause!
Good service, helpful staff. Rented a tandem for a short visit.
Reasonable rates and great location.
Excellent service and gorgeous location.
Very professional and helpful
Rent a bike and ride to the lake.
The Burlington bike trails are unparalleled, but this place is a mess of a rental shop. There are one or two absent minded kids taking reservations and the line is long, with people standing around waiting ages to receive bikes. Our reservation was for 4 hours and we spent the first half hour of it waiting to get bikes. The bikes themselves are pretty banged up and poorly maintained with broken components and poorly aired tires. This place survives on proximity and convenience. Look elsewhere if you can.
Very well the ferry is easy to use and very fast.
Excellent service and scenic views
