My son is selling his home to move to Bristol TN. He can pay the 12 month lease upfront in cash. He has interviews scheduled when he arrives in TN. Shelby Heights wont lease him an available apartment without employment, even though he can pay the 12 months in advance. This makes no sense. We asked for the owners name to see if the owner would be interested in 12 months paid upfront. They wont disclose that information. Im hoping the owner reads this.

Shelby Heights is absolutely a wonderful place to live and a great value. I have been living here for nearly 15 years and I love the location, the quiet peaceful environment, and many exceptional features of the apartments. The complex is located on a forested hill next to Steele Creek Park, a popular nature preserve and recreational area. There is a paved walking trail from Shelby Heights that goes right to one of the park entrances. The complex feels out in the country, but it is actually very close to grocery stores, two malls, the med center, and the historic downtown area. Shelby Heights is also close to the main routes to all of the other Tri-Cities. In fact, I have worked jobs in Johnson City, Kingsport, and Abingdon while living at Shelby Heights. The apartments have a great layout with big rooms and a huge amount of storage space. The master bedroom of the two-bedroom apartment has a huge walk-in closet with two poles for hanging clothes, long shelves, and a strong light. The bathrooms are exceptionally large and have very useful long countertops, big drawers, and additional storage space. The washer-dryer hookups are located in a side room off the long hallway. I really enjoy the large porch with a complete roof that stays dry when it rains. Having a separate kitchen, dining room, and living room make the apartment feel even more like a home. Also, the kitchen has a high number of cabinets and drawers. The management is very responsive to renter issues, maintenance, and repairs. Whenever something stops working or breaks down, the staff responds quickly and fixes everything. The central air units and water heaters work so efficiently, the electric bills are really low compared to other apartment complexes and homes. They increased the number of parking spaces a few years ago, so there are no parking problems and plenty of spaces. I also appreciate how hard the management team works to keep the grounds clean and to maintain a very safe environment. Thank you Shelby Heights for making such a great home!

My family and I loved every day of our year in Bristol and we will miss living at Shelby Heights. This is the most peaceful, well-groomed community. The bathrooms are huge and the units are well-insulated; I had the best sleep of my life while living here. Regina and her maintenance staff took great care of us and always made us feel right at home. Our apartment was walking distance from Steele Creek Park (three playgrounds, a splash pad, disc golf, tons of trails, and a waterfall by the dam) where we hosted cook-outs with our friends. Take it from someone who has lived in apartments all across Tennessee for the past 15 years: Shelby Heights Apartments are worth every penny. We will miss yall dearly, thanks for everything :-)

The company discriminates against truck drivers. I was told by a computer I did not make enough for these apartments, though I make more than 3 times the rent amount and the young man I worked with verified my income was far over what was needed, but they would not override a computer, which dictated my worth. The manager refused to even talk to me and review the documents in her possession. I wouldnt recommend these apartments.

We love living here! We moved in ..Feb 2016! We used to own a home in Ohio that about 900 sq ft. We thought we give the apt life a try...and it has been great! We live in a 3 bedroom with more sq ft than our house did! When moving in...the carpet was brand new..it smelled clean and painted...we were able to have an accent wall painted for free as a moving in special. So, our living room has this gorgeous Scarlet/Maroon wall. Regina is amazing! From day one she has made us feel like we are home! I know if I call or email her she will reply in an appropriate timely manner! There is always an open communication with the management team! When my adult son was in a car accident and had to stay with us for a week because he was pretty banged up ..Regina was so kind and said that if he needed anything and we werent home...all he had to do was call the office. That meant a lot to us! The pool is a nice place to relax and it is clean! We love it here. We dont ever wanna move!

Whatever you do DO NOT lease an apartment here!!!!! For starters they will try to hide the fact that they allow smoking in the apartments. The smell is absolutely terrible. A resident that lives there has the cops called on his apartment every night and I had asked him what was going on and he told me him and his girlfriend both have assault charges!! Therefore I’m assuming when they take your money for application they do not even run a background check. Also while living there I was threatened several times by another resident for “walking my dog in front of his apartment”. My dishwasher leaked severely causing water/mold build up under the kitchen floor and they still would not replace it... not to mention all of the appliances are from the late 80’s. They never cleaned their breezeways leaving the front doors infested with moths and poisonous spiders. The pool is filthy 99% of the time. They allow dogs to be tethered to their balconies, barking and crying all night long. I could go on and on but whatever you do PLEASE for your health and safety DO NOT live at Shelby Heights! The owners DO NOT care about their tenants and in fact will not respond to your concerns! Spend the extra $25 a month and live anywhere else!!!

I am going to give the unadulterated version of my and my finances stay at Shelby Heights. We came across Shelby Heights on a whim, and were needing a place rather immediately. Shelby Heights had availabilities and was closer to our work place, so we went in to tour and apply. We were greeted by an individual named Chris (who no longer is apart of the leasing office) who gave us a tour and information about the property. This is where we should have seen the warning signs. Upon walking into the unit, you can instantly smell where others have smoked inside the unit. Chris assured us that this was temporary as the unit had not been rented in a while, and that once cleaned and painted, it would dissipate. We did not think anything else about it; and well, we needed a place quick.Once we got settled in, that is when the true personality of the property really became noticeable. The units are lackluster and dated. The grounds were and are awful. My finance and I looked past this as we noticed that there was but one maintenance man, and he surely could not be superman. We figured that over time, this would get better, but we were surely wrong. We had continual issues with the dated appliances, such as the dishwasher which leaked every time we used it and the toilet handle which would break off every so often. The maintenance tech was very apt, but often complained to us that the complex wanted to save money so they would not replace the appliances. He said that the dishwasher was needing replaced, but he could not convince the management team to do so.Our next issue came in the form of the property and its tenants. The police are here practically every week, and at one point in time, there was an issue with residents who lived two floors below us. The police came four of the seven days trying to remedy this problem but to no avail. My finance is pregnant at this time, so she was fearful of being outside. A few days later, my finance is walking our dog, where she is then met with threats from an older man who calls her expletives and then threatens to hurt her. She informed the police, who in turn worked with management on fixing the harassment. Long story short, this is not the most safe environment in the community, nor has it seen the touches of upgrades. Finally, we attempted several times to speak to ownership regarding the issues that we had from being mislead during the tour, to the safety concerns, to the continual breaking of the appliances in the unit; but this was to no avail. It was only met with a residing no from Regina, the property manager. We had to pay a reletting fee of $1,250 to release us from the lease, which was a small fee to pay compared to living in this disastrous environment. I received our financial move out today via mail, and it appears that I also owe this community eight additional dollars, which I hope they can put to good use and invest in something quality. All in all, this was a rash, horrible experience. If you are looking to move here, just dont. It is not worth your time or effort. I truly cannot find anything good to say about this place, except that Mike (the maintenance man) is a breath of fresh air, and if everyone cared for the property the way he tries, then it would be a much better place. As a property manager of a 670 bed complex in Kentucky, I am baffled that ownership allows this place to be ran the way it is, without communication and oversight to the tenants. I will make sure that the true colors of this property are seen. Not even Bristol deserves a place so wretched.

DO NOT MOVE IN if you want a peasant living environment. On the surface Ahelby Heights looks wonderful. After all, it is next to Steels Creek. This creek was used as a dump in the past and was made into a lake. Its water drains past the apartments and not only just smells like sewage, but also, had a sewer line bust under it. The apartments are far below par. The walls have massive cracks down them that appear to be caused by foundation problems, you can see many poorly done hole-in-the-wall cover ups and most appliances and hardware leak and/or are broken as well as being prehistoric and possibly older than the complex itself. The Land Lord is an exceedingly rude and miserable lady. This apartment complex discriminates, not only in social and public relation skills, but also including how much you will pay for month. The floors are VERY squeaky and you can hear your neighbors way too well through the walls. There have been multiple domestic disputes (Including a man getting shot) and law enforcement often appears to attend to the slew of problems that constantly flood Shelby Heights. The Land Lords attitude and demeaned was almost enough, alone, for us to leave. With everything else piled onto this miserable living situation, we will be lucky to get out without being messed over in one form or another. DO NOT MOVE HERE

Ive never lived here but the suffocating amount of listings for this place on craigslist is driving me crazy. An apartment complex that has to advertise that much on another website is never a good sign. Its making my search for a place that I can actually live at very difficult. For every legit listing theres atleast 10 listings for Shelby Heights. I cant even “x” out of some of them because they make the titles so long on the listing lol. Please find another way to advertise your complex. I know its a first world problem for me to complain about this but my goodness.
