Overall a good experience. The bikes are in very good condition and ride very nicely. Our only complaint about the bikes is the seats are awful. So uncomfortable! There are plenty of comfortable seats out there (even on CitiBikes!) so there’s no excuse for rock hard seats. There were also no baskets which surprised me because baskets are almost always available (for a price). Keep in mind: parents carry a lot of essential stuff, even on bike rides, so baskets are necessary. The price is $25 for 3 hours and the location is perfect because it is right on the Rail Trail so no need to ride on any busy roads to get there. For tourists and those not familiar with the Rail Trail: the trail is very nice but narrow. Riding side-by-side is not practical and there are many spots along the way that intersect with roads so be cautious, especially with children, when approaching those intersections.
Stopped in because my tire wasnt riding right after being fixed at another shop. They were able to fix it in minutes, with a friendly, accommodating attitude, which the other shop could take a serious lesson in! Highly recommend & will be back with any future bike needs!
Our bike rack broke, leaving one bike severely damaged. John at Rail Trail Bike and Kayak fixed it the same day. The bike looked and rode better than it did before the accident. The price was way less than I had imagined for such excellent work!We also rented two awesome kayaks. They were delivered to the rental house and everyone enjoyed using them.I highly recommend this bike and kayak shop!
Rider beware. Even if your bike is faulty midway through a 3 hour rental, this company will not refund you. Their customer service, too, is awful and their staff rude! We rented two bikes along with a trailer for our young children for 3 hours. Upon our ride (around 1hr 45mins in and nowhere near the bike shop), the chain kept slipping on my bike causing me to almost have a serious accident with my children in-tow. I ended up walking the bike back. Upon returning the bike, one of the managers John did apologize and said he would refund my card for this one bike. However, it seems the refund was never placed and after calling this bike shop numerous times to chase the refund (one of the guys even swore down the phone declaring he doesnt know how credit cards work!), I was finally able to speak with the owner Dan who simply declared they do not give refunds no matter the circumstance and proceeded to put the phone down on me. Seriously Dan, so you just hand people faulty bikes and take no responsibility for them as long as youve got your money?! I wont be back and I would urge anybody (especially those with young kids in tow!) to go elsewhere!
Easy on and off in Brewster for Rail Trail bike path. You can park in the parking lot for the day and then just jump onto the path. They were very accommodating. We were able to rent the bikes for the whole day and then locked it up at the shop because we had to go home to pick something up and came back later to ride our bikes. My kids got a little tired so then we added the attachment trailer. Again very accommodating and the service was amazing for them to make this additional upgrade to our bike.
The location is great & the bikes are very nice. However, the lady behind the counter is rude, nasty and out right mean. My family has never been to Cape Cod before, I rented bikes for 3 days but once we arrived we realized we could only use them for 1 day. They were unwilling to compromise and had no compassion or understanding for a 1st timers mistake but they were more than happy to take our money knowing we would only use them for 1 day. We will not be back!
Rented out bikes for three hours. Rates are reasonable based on others shops along the cape. They are right along the trail so you are choose to go north or south. We were able to round trip go about 25 miles in our three hours. Would recommend the shop for their friendly staff and well maintained bikes.
Easy in, easy out, right on the trail! Im big and they had bikes to fit me! Helpful, friendly staff. They rent Marin bikes - first time on one for me and definitely not the last. Thanks Trail Trail Bike Shop!
Worst customer service I’ve experienced in a long time. The owner is setting the standard for terrible service.Took my wife’s bike in for a tuneup and to have a bracket attached for our baby trailer. When I came in to pick it up, it was $100 for parts and the tuneup, which was fine. The person I’m assuming was one of the owners, short woman, long blonde hair, 60s, quickly took my money and showed me the repaired bike. Then I noticed the mechanic had installed the bracket in the wrong direction. I said “Im sorry, I should have specified, the bracket needs to be pointing to the rear”. Before I could ask if we could make that quick adjustment, she rudely replied “don’t tell me, I’m not the mechanic!” and then grabbed the bike to take it to the repair side of the shop. I said “I’m just pointing out the issue, thanks for your help.” No reply from her. If she can’t be nice to someone spending $100 there, then it’s not with it.
Great bike shop along rail trail. 3 Great restuarants to eat on the property
Absolutely poor long-term customer care only if the owner know what that means
Was rude and rush us out after we got bikes. There are better places to go to.
They had the exact bike tunes that we needed and great friendly service thank you.
Rail Trail bike store is a great place for families on the Cape. Friendly staff assisted us with our bikes and we were out on the trail in minutes.
Great place and great service
Cool place, right near the bike trail..
I was 4 days into a bike tour when a wheel spoke snapped. I opened up my brake arms and limped on into Rail Trail Bike and kayak. The staff was super understanding and quickly took me in, replaced the wheel spoke and trued my wheel. Anyone who had broke a spoke knows that it dosent always end like this.THANK YOU FOR THE FAST AND QUALITY SERVICE!!!
Friendly, fast and reasonable! They fixed a tube on our stroller about 5 years ago. Put on new brake lines for my daughters bike today. Highly recommend
Drove 2 hours to find out there are no trailers available. All five where rented, you can wait unlit they are back but there are 2 in waiting list. Okay I asked the guy in the reception - can you please take me phone number and let me know once they are back?NO he said we don’t do that, you’ll just have to hang around and see when they are back.Really? Thanks for nothing. I’ll take my business elsewhere.
Knowledgeable, professional and very well located. It took less than 5 minutes to get on a couple of Marin bikes and ride on the Rail Trail.
Owner is a nice guy and took good care of us. Best price on a 24-hour rental on the cape.
Extremely disappointed in the quality of the bike and customer service. When visiting the Cape recently (July 2020) we rented four bikes from this business. We were given no instruction on the operation of the bikes and two of the four bikes ended up have faulty bike seats. One of which requires a tool to adjust. No tool was provided with the rental so we had to ask several other cyclist on the path for assistance. Our group of 8 had to stop on numerous occasions to allow time to adjust the faulty bike seats. One of which we could not secure properly thus had to endure a swiveling seat for the remainder of our ride. When we returned the bikes we expressed our frustration and disappointment to the staff, who offered little more than a sorry. Apparently there was no manager or owner on site either. We expected the employee to pass our complaint on to a manager or owner and receive a call back. Never got one. After a couple of days I sent an email through the website expressing our frustration and disappointment, at this point in both the quality of the bike and their costumer service and requested contact back, which was never received. I would highly recommend NOT using this company.
Neither particularly nice people nor overly helpful. I would recommend going somewhere else.
Didnt have the exact bikes we needed but it was fine and the bikes worked well
Great, inexpensive bike rental. One of the few bike rental places around Chatham that is doing short-term rentals (just a few hours) during current covid situation.
John is a master at his craft.I was on the trail and my bike started shifting hard - by chance, stopped in and was lucky enough to have John squeeze me in.After about 15 minutes I was good to go and the bike ran better than ever.THANK YOU Rail Train Team.PS. I think left my water bottle there -- you can keep it :)
I came in for a simple repair, reassemble front brakes on two bikes that were taken apart for shipping. This guy immediately tried to up-sell me for some sort of bike check up costing $30. I told him unequivocally NO, just the repair. He calls the next day and tells me he did the phony $30 safety check on both bikes and the bill was $74. I went ballistic. He told me he did it because they needed it. The guy is a thief and a scumbag.
This is NOT a place that I would ever recommend. From our initial encounter with the owner or manager to the final one, it had a bad “flavor.”First, we walked in the front of the shop with a bike that had a flat. We told the owner this and, without making eye contact, he said “Take it around to the side.” He could have said “Hello” or “This is the rental side. Would you mind taking it around to the side?” No big deal but this unpleasant approach continued when we had a problem. The very nice bike tech replaced the tube and said we had had a slow leak near the valve. We paid $16 labor (for 10 minutes) and ~$7 for the tube, put the bike on our bike rack and went on our way. About a half mile down the road, we heard what sounded like a gunshot. The tube had blown. We went back to the shop where the tech apologized and was going to try another tube…a reasonable attempt to see if the tube had been defective or the tire was the problem. The owner was adamant that it was a defective tire and refused to try a new tube. He wanted to sell us another tire, (or preferably two?) Our problem was not really about the solution he proposed, although we disagreed with it, our problem was with his attitude. We decided that this man was unaccommodating at best and untrustworthy at worst. We took the bike to Orleans cycle where they were wonderful. Our best guess is that the tube was improperly installed (since the bike and tire were new and didn’t have that many miles on them). Either way, it’s clear that Rail Trail management is willing to take your money but not very interested if you have an issue.
Love this bike store, came in with my full suspension and the employee noticed the tire were a bit low for what I was riding and also tried to fix my hydraulic brake lever, in the end he put tape around it as a temporary fix, all in all it’s an all-around great bike store
Staff very helpful. We needed tires changed. They changed them quick and were reasonable.
Good bikes and great rates. Trail was very pretty, hard to get lost but still possible
Weve been renting from them for years to ride the rail trail. Theyve always been able to accommodate us and our kids with decent bikes, helmets, and trailors (when the kids were small) for a decent price. Snack shop next door Easy distance from great swimming pond if you go the Harwich direction and from Nickerson State Park if you go the Orleans direction. My only gripe is that they dont have a water fountain to fill up your water bottles at.
We rent bikes every summer when the family comes down to visit, and have always had a positive experience. The staff is helpful & friendly, the bikes are well maintained with a large selection (the seats could afford a little more cushion, although you don’t typically notice that until after the first 10miles-ish...so would recommend bringing a removable seat cover with xtra padding if you have one and can remember to grab it...hopefully one of these summers I’ll remember to take my own advice! 🤪)
Reasonable price. Decent bike rental. On rail trail.
Easy to get bikes and helpful staff
I came here one Sunday morning because I could not for the life of me put air in my tires. They were completely flat (I hadnt touched my bike all winter) and every time I checked the pressure gage it said 80 (which I knew it wasnt... completely flat). The guy in the shop checked out my bike, and blew up my tires. I was dumbfounded. How did he do that? As he started explaining to me how far I wanted to unscrew the valve before putting air in I realized I hadnt done that at all. What I dope. He was really nice without making me feel too silly about the mishap and gave me some good advice. And as always... air is FREE so it didnt cost me a thing.
Rented here for years without issues. This year was a major problem. Got there around noon and I could see all the rentals were gone. However they said they had bikes. Gave us 2 new bikes. One was a roadster type that my daughter rode. Made it 3 miles and had to turn around. The chain on one bike came off and the other was impossible to ride (really weird and uncomfortable bike). Walked bikes back and I told girl problems and she said “ya they weren’t tuned yet”. I said I would never rent her again and she said “okay”. Crazy to think a business would let this happen.
Had broken my cleat. Stopped at Rail Trail Bike Shop.In minutes they had replaced two screws in the cleat and refused any payment. All this while the store was closing for the evening.Pleasant helpful and nice people.
Always eager and willing to help, even on their busiest days Ive always been met with a smile. Theyre knowledge is vast and theyre friendly attitude make it so I dont want to go anywhere else.
I needed bike oil so they told me how to use it and gave me a rag to use. They were just so nice!
Easy and convenient bike rental and kid trailer. They provided helmets for free. We loved riding the CCRT.
Decent selection of Endura gear and Cloud9 saddles. Prices were good and its located right on the rail trail.
I had a terrible experience here yesterday. I was riding the CCRT and the screws in my cleat came out. I needed secure the cleat in place to at least get to the end of the trail. First, I was ignored for about 10 minutes while he tried to sell a bike to another customer. Then when he finally spoke to me and I explained my problem, he said I dont know anything about bike cleats. I said I just needed to replace a screw and asked whether he had a screwdriver and he said no. I also had an opportunity to observe his sales pitch and I wouldnt recommend buying a bike here, either. His sales pitch was very persistent and he really didnt seem to know much about bicycles.Do not patronize this shop. Dennis Cycle down the street was extremely helpful.
Easy in, easy out. Took just a few minutes to get our four rentals. And off we went.
Friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Good bikes and great repair technician
Very kind and helpful!
Employees are great and the wont try to screw u over
Stephanie was wonderful helpful and set us up for the day. I just wish they let us stay later in the evening past 6pm.
Very convenient and easy bike rental.
Cool staff! Thanks for the help
John went above and beyond to help me 30 minutes after he was suppose to close and he didnt even charge me a dime
A MUST do on your next CC trip.
Very good. A little expensive.
