The folks here are WONDERFUL. They go the distance for customer service. In Bozeman customer service is at a new low. To be able to come in and ask for a service which I did...and they helped me out, icing on the cake??? They refused to charge me!! Love this store and the peeps.

We were treated like 2nd class citizens. Bought some boots for $400.00 plus but lady was very lofty and condescending.

At Carters, I have bought at least four pair of boots, in addition to other leather goods and boot accessories (e.g., boot jacks). I have also had shoes a boot repairs done in their shop. They taught me some basics like buying zipper pullers rather than having zippers repaired. Everything I have bought from Carters is apparently going to last my lifetime. If they sell a tube a glue that appears expensive (as one reviewer complains), then you can be certain its good quality and is going to work!

Ive had several items fixed here, and all repairs have been done quickly and with high quality. Its nice to not have to send anything out and to be able to support local. Glad they can reattach my purse straps!

A Bozeman institution, Carters Boots is not merely what the name suggests, althought it is certainly that - home of the greatest hand-built boots that money can by - it is also where you will find a variety of complimentary clothing items and accessories. In addition, and I speak from experience on this point, Carters does a phenomenal job of repairing, resoleing, and reviving your old boots and shoes, thereby extending their life for years to come.

Had a pair of leather sole boots resoled to vibram, and I’m in love with them. Excellent craftsmanship, and they did an excellent job blending it to the point that you cant even tell there is a rubber sole underneath. Everything looks better than it did before. Highly recommend these guys. Week turnaround time

If you’re a rhinestone cowboy or concrete cowboy or just looking for a pair of boots to go dancing or out on the town in, than the custom boots these folks make are awesome! But if you’re a buckaroo hoping for a pair of boots to work in that will also be comfortable and stylish, you should only expect the latter 2... I’ve had my custom boots for 2.5 months and have just had to send them back because the sole has started to separate from the boot. When I initially went into the store and explained that I was looking for a boot to “cowboy” in and expert guidance to create a pair that was not only comfortable but also that would last longer than the mass produce brands, I was assured that the set up they put me I would last a year... they have dissected pieces of boots from the mass produced companies to walk you through all the reasons those boots don’t hold up to the wear and tear of work, and then show you examples of how their own boots are constructed, and why their boots will last. So you can imagine that I was pretty distraught when I saw that the sole of my boots were splitting after just 2.5 months of use.I called to see what my options were since clearly these boots were falling short of the 1 year mark that everyone in the store boasts. The woman I spoke with was shocked, because “it shouldn’t have happened, and that ranchers wear their boots and that their boots last for a year, so yes, please send us your boots back so we can fix the situation.”The reality: I just got off a call to get the low-down on what was wrong with my boots and they told me that I use them too hard, that I clearly ride in them, and walk in the dirt in them, and get poo on them (there was even poo on them when I shipped them (heaven forbid!)), and that this makes the longevity time line I was originally quoted “relative”. Their fix: 1/2 price to put a new sole and heel on the boots, plus a cleaning fee... on a pair of boots that I’ve only had 2.5 months (so an additional $65 plus shipping on a pair of nearly $800 boots that I’ve only had for 2.5 months)... I was shocked... this is far shorter than the 12 months that originally sold me on giving them a chance. Now don’t get me wrong: my boots are beautiful, and super comfortable, but I am frustrated by the fact that I was sold these qualities as second only to the craftsmanship that would allow these boots to last me 12 months in my work environment.

I have had Jeff and the crew do repairs and bought leather, leather dye, accessories for gifts, and on and on over the years. They do excellent work, for a fair price. They are a staple in downtown, and I send many customers down their way looking for amazing boots, repairs, and so on. Highly recommended!

We met with the owner Jeff on our boot buying experience. He was incredibly nice and helpful, and knowledgeable about the products ( always a great thing in my books) The level of service we had was fantastic. After shopping at a few other boot shops in town and not really finding what we were looking for ( nore did we encounter the best service at the other shops) coming here was excellent. I just want to say again how awesome of an experience we had. I would recommend Carters to anyone looking for a nice pair of boots.

Interest in customer service here is very low. Went into the shop to see about getting a hiking boot sole glued back on that had partially separated. In an arrogant “we don’t have time for you” type manner they told me it would be 1-2 weeks before they could even look at it. They next proceeded to tell me that if I needed it sooner than that, “like everyone else” I could buy some glue and do it myself. She showed me a small tube of glue they sold for what I felt was a high price. Had the service been better, I would have gladly bought the glue, as I like to support local businesses that treat there customers with respect. I told her I would take my business elsewhere.

I stopped by Carters today to see about replacing a zipper on a bmw tankbag,the man in the store came out to the curb and fixed the bag in about 5 minutes smiled and laughed the whole time, said there you go without charge,it reminded me that there are sill great people, great place, thankyou

Unable to complete my boots in the time frame they gave me. I called them two weeks after dropping them off to find out they hadn’t even began working on them on the day I was told to pick them up. I would not recommend any firefighters take their work boots here.

Great work. They tend to overestimate the amount of time they will take, so dont be surprised when they call you early that your boots are done! Its a nice surprise.

I have used Carters Boots and Repair many times in the last few years. They always have gotten my work done on time or sooner than expected. They have always called me when the job was done. I found their prices to be reasonable although for certain repairs I can understand the need to cover their time. I highly recommend them for high end repairs of shoes.

Jeff and his crew are great. Theyve done work for me, my family and my business. Everything from a simple repair to a custom knife sheath.... always a fair price and quick turn-around. For over 25 years, they are clearly doing it right!

They have nice selection of high quality leather products. I have an issue with what I assume is the owner. The owner hovers around you while you shop like he was looking for shoplifters. Most retired couples arent shoplifters. We were going to buy a few items but his demeanor turned us off.

They told me 2 weeks to put new soles on my hiking boots. 2 months later I call to find out what was up only to be rudely told theyll be ready at the end of the week CLICK. I get my boots today only ta notice when I get home that the new treads are full of mud. Someone was WEARING! my boots. They didnt even clean them off. No apologie, No discount, No excuse and They WORE! my boots. This business has no respect for their customers or their customers property. DONT GIVE THEM YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!

Sold these guys a pair of my snakeskin boots, they were very polite and easy to deal with. Bought myself a fly fishing rode and some gun oil with the money. Went in happy, left happier.

First of all they told me 3 weeks took them almost 2 months to top it off I needed a build up on one of my boots and they did the wrong one directions were even stapled to receipt. And even wanted to charge me more than they quoted me. 😡

Snooty. Poor repairs. I was overcharged for several repairs that didn’t even work. There was no attempt to set it right. I will not go there again.
