These guys are not about the up-sell. They want you to come in, ask questions, be thought leaders, and guide you. I never got into cars/trucks. I’m a tech guy. Anyone like me needs a trusted advisor when it comes to their truck! While they’ve been way better with the switch to Fowler - Century Chevrolet had dropped the ball a hand full of times on proactive and reactive maintenance. I was having a noise issue that Century couldn’t fix, took it here to double check. They didn’t find anything about the noise. They did find oil leaking onto a pipe in the engine compartment. Took that back to Fowler and got it fixed under warranty.Not a big “truck” guy. Never wanted to lift my diesel Colorado. John’s team never even pushed that agenda…but the experience was great and now it’s got me thinking about a Fox Suspension and lift post warranty…

Kevin at Johns 4x4 really saved my trip. We had just traveled up to Boulder from Santa Fe to have them install rock sliders and skid plates. Kevin was forced to send an employee on a two hour round trip drive to get my parts because the manufacturer was a month behind schedule and Kevin knew we were in the middle of a trip. When we arrived Friday morning we unboxed and found the sliders were the wrong size and layout. Kevin spent 20 minutes trying to get the manufacturer on the phone to no avail. He handed me the keys to a loaner and told us to go get breakfast. During which Kevin called and informed me he had talked to the owner of the fab company and they were able to find a set of sliders for my truck. Once again Kevin sent someone 2 hours to get my parts. My girlfriend and I continued to explore Boulder and resupply for the rest of our trip. By 3pm we settled up with Kevin and were heading to Boreas pass for the night(which was a suggestion of another employee, thanks brother! ).I cant say enough about Johns 4x4. Just a bunch of great guys(and dog) doing whatever it takes to get the job done right, the first time.

I took my F350 into Johns 4x4 for a leaking inner axle seal. When there I told them to go ahead and replace both seals. While taking everything apart they found a number of problems with my axle and steering components. The truck after all has over 400K miles. They did a great job getting the parts needed, which wasnt easy, and got the truck back together and in operating condition. About a couple weeks later I noticed the seal on the opposite side was leaking. I went back and they fit me in quickly and took care of the leak in less than a day and I had my truck back quickly. Im very happy with the service that Kevin and the guys at Johns 4x4 provided. The friendly demeanor of the staff is awesome and I would recommend them to anyone with a 4x4 that needs work. Its also great to chat with Kevin. A great bunch of guys!

I had quite a bit of work done, and was afraid the cost was going to break the bank. Although it was fairly expensive, it cost no more than it would have anywhere else and I am very satisfied with the quality of the repairs I got. They did a great job giving me a comprehensive assessment with full line of recommendations, but had the good business sense to accept my desire to only fix certain things during this visit. I cannot say enough good things about Johns 4x4. I brought my 4runner in for a Bilstein kit which was done on time and at a fair price. They even cleaned my car for me after they had finished. Kevin was very professional, courteous and punctual. They installed the suspension and did an alignment within one day. My 4runner rides better than it ever has. I highly recommend Johns as they are extremely knowledgable and quality focused.

I was very happy with my experience at Johns 4x4. I had a leveling kit and air bags with a (cab adjustable) compressor installed. The kit was great but there were some issues with the compressor system. I took my truck back in to Kevin at the front, and he made sure to do what we needed to have done to make it right. Took my Jeep Commander there for a front differential bushing. I couldn’t t believe how quickly they finished it. After further inspection I could tell the job was done with care. They gave me a ride to and from work and worked with me when I had left my wallet behind. Very cool shop. My only regret is that I’ve been driving by for years without ever stopping in. I will be going back and recommending to friends!

I would not recommend Johns 4x4 to my family or friends. In summary, they were repeatedly sloppy with work and didnt put forth much effort to make it right.I brought my Tacoma in this summer to get it aligned after I installed a lift kit. I decided to take it to Johns instead of a chain shop because theyre experts and I wanted it done right. When I got home, I realized that one of my skid plates was missing. Turns out they had forgotten to put it back on after the alignment. Mistakes happen, and they got me in quickly to put the skid plate back on. However, all they said was sorry.Last night, I went to change my oil and saw that one of the bolts for the skid plate was missing. So not only did they forget to put it on the first time, they either mistorqued or just skipped a bolt the second time! Honestly if they cant put a skid plate on, why should I trust them with my suspension?! I called the shop to inform them and all they offered me was a free oil change next time I came in. At this point, I dont even trust them to do that correctly.The main reason Im frustrated is that I pay a premium at Johns to trust that they do the job right and that my truck is safe for me to take out into the mountains. I could have been in real trouble if I had landed poorly on a rock when my skid plate was off. Since I cant trust them to complete the job correctly and they have done nothing to reassure me that these were isolated incidents, I will not be going back.

I would give them 10 stars if I could. I needed a replacement bumper on my Wrangler, and Kevin was extremely helpful in helping me pick an option that still looked great, but was also well within my budget. They were respectful of my time and very communicative throughout the entire process, which I greatly appreciated. Fantastic, knowledgable staff, great prices, and a really pleasant experience. Highly recommend them!

Its such a breath of fresh air when you find a mechanic you can trust. They went above and beyond to ensure that my Toyota was fixed and that I was taken care of. I was able to use a loaner vehicle while they worked on my 4Runner. Kevin was very kind and his communication was great. I have brought my Jeep in for numerous suspension and performance mods - lift, air intake, exhaust, UCA, tires, wheels, etc - and they always do a great job. I travel from Evergreen to Boulder to work with them because they’re up front, honest, fairly priced, and most importantly do the job right. My experience with Johns 4x4 was incredible. They went above and beyond when looking over my Jeep and found a few things which were not on my original list which needed to be addressed. A couple of these were far more important than others (like a sheered off upper control arm bolt), so obviously I chose to have them handle certain items immediately. Their online ticketing systems is also worth mentioning, as I was able to see the notes the technician entered, as well as pictures of the work they were doing, or suggesting. If youre looking for a shop you can trust to do the work on your 4x4 vehicle, I would strongly suggest you stop in to Johns 4x4 and speak with either Kevin or his son Austin. Went in to replace batteries and for an oil change. The work was done quickly and professionally and to my satisfaction. Staff are friendly and helpful. Their English Mastiff, Colonel, is a great shop ambassador. I do encourage them to put on their masks when interacting with clients. These days it is as much a matter of health as of professional courtesy. I have used them multiple times before and will continue to use them.The store front are has been nicely rearranged and decorated. There is a sanitization station with sanitizer and paper towels. The customer seating could be spread out even more.

Not really happy with my experience today. Dropped off to have my second battery looked at as I believed it to be a bad ground. The tech Tim said hes unable to work on my car since the diagram he looked up suggested a relay and isolator. It would help if Tim looked up the correct redarc and found that my model doesnt need them. Never going back to these people out of touch with overlanding technology.

I used to be an ASE certified mechanic and worked for many years in a 4WD shop, these guys are good.

I have returned to Johns 4x4 after several years away. On my recent visit, Kevin & Kevin were extremely gracious, attended to the issues of maintenance that were needed and found and fixed several other issues that had been missed by my previous service shop. I am very happy with the service I received at Johns and expect that with their continued service I will keep my 29 year old Jeep truckin & purring.

Did good work for me. They did a leveling kit, winch and some lights. Made it so the F-150 is ready for winter in the mountains, and today I was able to pull a stuck truck out on Flagstaff. If you need (or like) commuting in the mountains when the roads are closer to an off road experience, Johns shop can set you up. I worked with Kevin.Id recommend this shop.

I would avoid this place - Came in for an alignment on my 2010 Wrangler, told them my future plans to go hydraulic steering, have most of the parts in my garage, just wanted to get my caster/toe fixed before. They were fine with that when I scheduled it.Got it in the shop and they said I needed a new steering stabilizer (you dont even need to run one if your Jeep is set up properly), fix my shock mounts (move one rubber bushing to the top of the mount, which they wanted $111 for and would take all of 5 minutes, and I mounted them this way to gain downtravel), and a new steering box before they could give me an alignment. I told them none of this has an effect on an alignment (it absolutely doesnt, which I knew and confirmed with a few other 4x4 shops around here), they said they wouldnt do the alignment until that was done...Kevin was super snarky and not helpful at all. They also quoted me $985 for a new Mopar steering box...why would you not suggest a PSC big bore or an upgraded box, when it costs the same amount?Bottom line - They only charged me $75 but wasted 2 weeks for the appt and then a few hours of my time driving my Jeep home. I came to this shop because of the good reviews. I would not recommend and would absolutely not trust this shop with what they say you need done.

Mechanical inspection came back with several false positives:Engine oil was noted as low. Both before and after the inspection, the engine oil was measured at just above the mid-point between min and max.Front brakes marked as needs new pads - 3 mm. I pulled the wheels off after 10 days of additional use and found over 7 mm of wear left.If you get your vehicle inspected here, please be sure to spot-check the results.

Johns 4x4 will be the only place I take my truck from now on! They really know what they’re doing. Incredible service and honest work. Seriously cannot recommend this place enough!

Took my 2014 Toyota Tacoma in to Johns for some front suspension work. my Tacoma is an off road truck and beat hard. most other shops wouldnt even take it in for work because it is so heavily modified.Johns not only took it in a timely manner they completed the work very fast and at a reasonable price.I will be bringing in my other trucks in for future work.thanks for being a stand up shop.

I needed a suspension air bag inspection assessed, and leak repaired on my 2016 Highlander. I chose these guys based upon their website and a helpful phone conversation with their shop.I arrived when they opened (7:30AM) and waited for the vehicle. Within one hour and the initial quoted rate, they resolved the leak.Bottom line, I trusted their work and Ill be back for any future custom mechanical service.

Well, not sure why this posted just recently. My dissatisfaction is due to a parts order fail 2-3 years ago. I broke a shock on my TJ, needed to get fixed for an upcoming trip. I was assured the part would be available so I could install before my trip. Your counter person ordered the completely wrong part and I was out of time. That was enough for me to swear you folks off for future consideration.

I took my 1994 YJ to have work done after they did a complete inspection on the new to me jeep. After the repair there was an issue with a oil leek. Johns 4x4 went above expectations to correct the issue. They left me a loaner car for 2 days picked Jeep up from my home and corrected the issue. I received a call from the owner when it was ready for pickup. He apologized for the inconvenience and was very honest as to what happened. Best costumer service I have had in along time. I have a lot of work yet to get the Jeep to were I want it. Johns 4x4 will be doing all the work for me. I’m a lifetime customer . Thanks to everyone at Johns 4x4.

This shop has changed owners/management several times over the years and they’ve gotten worse each time. At this point, it seems as If the three stooges ran an automotive shop, it would be this place, except there are something like 12 of them. They love to do unnecessary work here. This shop is the very definition of a flavor of the day auto shop (Hey we need to sell 20 transmissions this week, so everyone who comes in this week suddenly has serious transmission problems.) This problem is compounded by the fact that they really don’t do quality work, and they certainly don’t stand by what they do. With the recent proliferation of other off-road shops that serious off-roaders actually recommend, I will never come here again!

Johns 4x4 was very responsive to me and clear about the work they were performing on my 07 Wrangler. While they can be pretty pricey, the work they did was excellent and I would recommend them for any repairs you need done to your rig.

Great team and fantastic service. Our Toyota 4runner developed a leak around the transfer case. The team at Johns diagnosed the issue, quoted it and then fixed it for substantially less than quoted. I was very impressed. They could have easily completed the full job and made more on the labour but instead saved me a lot of time and money. Very happy customer and I would have no problem recommending them.

Unparalleled service. Unmatched.My friend got stuck in a super deep snow ditch up by Caribou in Nederland and we saw a John’s 4x4 Jeep playing in the snow. He disappeared down the road before we could flag him down for help, so with quick thinking called John’s and asked if they could put us in contact with the gentleman who rented the Jeep to come bail us out.Austin at John’s totally respected the time and privacy of the renter and took down my number, saying he’d reach out to the driver and see if he had time to help us out.He immediately called us back and said that the driver was on his way!The Jeep was a frickin BEAST. We winched out with not a single problem and I mean we were BURIED. The Jeep stayed put even on the slippery roads. Everything was easy to use, and even the guy who rented it said he usually drives a huge diesel truck and “wasn’t sure about this thing” was completely sold and said he needed to get one.I’m so impressed with how quickly, efficiently, and courteously John’s responded to our unorthodox request. I haven’t rented from them (yet) BUT TOTALLY 1000% WILL cause their service and that Jeep were SICKKKKKK.

These guys at Johns 4x4 really took care of me. My 1993 land cruiser drives great! night and day difference from when I dropped it off. Thoe I am not a certified mechanic I am a certified autobody technician and do know my way around cars. I did have a problem after I picked it up, but after a short phone call they promptly took it back in and made it right! There is alot to say for that! They did a very good job keeping me informed on its process through the shop. They were really respectful and flexible and made it easy to pick up due to my busy schedule. All around a good shop. Okay, so I live in the middle of no where west of Boulder. I have a mile long dirt road that is not maintained by the county. I live at the end of the road and I have a Curtis snow plow....so guess what? I plow the snow forneighbors. Went out to use the plow a couple of weeks ago and the plow didnt work. I panicked, Need the plow to get to the HWY. Took it to a guy over in Ned....truck sat there for 10 days. They Called and said they couldnt fix the plow. After a long search I found the most remarkable 4w shop!!!! These guys are so incredible. They fixed the plow and inspected my RAM 2500 truck. Truck is a 95 and only oil changes in the past.They shoot me an email regarding what things needed fixing. I realize I have to do the repairs. Quoted me 10 days to complete. Done in 3 or 4 days. Im trying to keep this short, but I have so many amazing things to share! I picked up my truck yesterday. Kevin, the project manager spent about a hour or so giving me a tutorial on the truck and the plow. The service on the truck was done very conscientiously. The customer interface blew me away. This biz is one of the best places Ive ever encountered in my life. Customer follow up and calls back were immediate. This shop treated me with respect and answered all of my concerns. Sometimes, as a mountain woman I get treated like dumb girl....I can not express how much I appreciate doing biz with these guys. I actually left the shop feeling excited again about snow plowing!!!!

Johns 4x4 has outdone themselves. They definitely know what they are doing! They took such good care of my Jeep Grand Cherokee with the install of a Chief Products Lower Front Guard, routine maintenance, and finding and fixing a broken oil cooler. I am a Jeep newbie and do not know much. So when I was looking for the best place to go I did some research and found Johns 4x4. These guys worked diligently on both the guard install and diagnosing what was causing an oil leak. They are always so friendly and honest about everything and will not stop until the job is done correctly. Definitely making this my go to shop from now on and I recommend this place to anyone!

These guys are great - they got my plow mount on my truck on short notice, in record time, and under budget. I have also had them do shocks and replace steering components, and it was like getting a new truck. I was surprised to find out that they do a lot more than tricking out 4x4s - they can do all of the maintenance too. Lastly, every time I have gone in with some crazy idea to make a mad max vehicle, they have asked me if I was sure that I wanted to do that to my daily driver - I am sure they can do any job, but it is really great to have someone verify that I am using common sense in spending my money. I needed to get a quick set of floor mats for a birthday present, and I needed them in Texas, fast. The owner, Ross, took time out of his vacation to get my order placed, and got the mats shipped out to me. I had them the next day by lunch. I had a very positive experience with Johns 4x4 Center. I lifted my Jeep and they worked with my budget, without trying to up-sell me to something I could not afford. The work was done correct and on time. The staff were all friendly and honest. With as hard as it is to find a trustworthy mechanic, I will be a return customer for sure! If youre an old hand at off-road vehicle modification, then you already know him or someone like him. If youre relatively new to it, then rejoice. You went to the right guy.Be patient, affable, and view his service proposals with humility and confidence. Kevin doesnt just know what hes doing. He knows what youre doing, too - even if you dont know it yourself yet. In the end, youll have what you were after.

I had a clutch replaced and the transmission, transfer case and overdrive overhauled on a 51 Willys Jeep. The price was fair, the quality of work was excellent. I Also just had them overhaul the transfer case and install a Tom Woods Slip Yoke Eliminator and a CV Drive Shaft on my 99 Cherokee. Again, the price was fair, the quality of work - excellent. Based on my experience at this shop, I highly recommend them.
