Buyer beware. Though everyone we interacted with was friendly, the quality of work was mediocre at best when you pay top dollar ($2600 for our re-screen) and figuring out the schedule was a nightmare. We hired Birmingham Screen to get our back porch re-screened. The porch was screened-in in the past but the home-owner removed it, so it just needed a few additional pieces of frame, screens, and a door frame and door put in. We wanted it screened in to keep our small dogs from escaping and to avoid mosquito bites with all the zika worries. The entire process took from July 4 (date of estimate) to August 19 (completion), although it wasnt more than about 8 hours of work-time for 3 people. My two big issues with this company are 1. very poor communication skills (we didnt get a written final estimate, nothing was ever itemized and no receipts were given, no start date or end date was given, and it was unclear when theyd ever be working at your house and it would often change from what they told you) and 2. inattentive to detail (see attached pictures - they left large gaps the first time around by the door frame and the lower screen panels. They came back and sanded the ledge down to rig a fix (when they should have noticed the ledge in the first place and measured correctly) but even after their fix I kept noticing bugs inside and I went and inspected and found more gaps in other places; they also didnt even bother to sand smooth the $900 custom-made door, left rough edges and gouges in several pieces of the wood frame, and they did not completely cover all pieces of virgin wood or the sanded spots with paint). After I messaged Pratt about the large gap by the door frame and the smaller ones at each of the lower panels they returned the next day to fix it, but I still had to spend the better half of my Saturday morning going through and caulking and painting over other gaps theyd left or where they hadnt sanded the ledge sufficiently and there was still a gap between the lower panel and the frame. What ultimately led me to leave a single star, through, is the fact that I found two cigarette butts tossed in a gap in the bricks at the edge of our wooden porch. They all smoked while working at some point, which okay, fine, youre outside... but tossing the butts in my house? Talk about disrespectful, disgusting, and not to mention a fire hazard. If you want to use them they are nice people when you talk to them, and Pratt did come back and address the big issues we had (although I wonder if the final half of our payment had already been applied if he would have been so quick to return), but I wouldnt recommend them to a friend. If you do use them, be sure you ask for an itemized estimate and a clear finish date, and request a deduction in your fee for every day they go beyond it. Also check everything with a fine-toothed comb in the end before you give full payment because they do not care much for the details. You can see the workmanship yourself in the pictures.Update: October 2016 - my custom made door no longer closes, as the wood has warped in the heat and shifted so that the male and female latch parts no longer meet.
They did a screen porch for me that looked very nice and clean when done. Pratt was very nice and sat with me and talked, told me if I had any issues whatsoever to call and he would take care of it. I had one screen come undone and another that feels loose. I have tried for about 2 months to get it fixed. Phone calls, txts and messages to mobile and office phone with no return call and screen still has not been fixed. Customer Service is very disappointing and frustrating. I have yet to receive a phone call from anyone from this company regarding my screens. Would not recommend to anyone for any home projects.
