Stayed overnight for my birthday. As soon as I got out of my car for valet, the bellman Reggie was on it. He should get a raise for just how good he handle my mom and I. Not only did he make sure we didnt lift a finger with our bags but he made sure we were checked in, knew where everything was during our stay, who to call for whatever we needed, and everything else you could think of. I dont think we even touched a door outside of our room door. Room service was on time and on point. Anything I could think to ask for...they made sure I had it. Our actual room was clean. Bathroom was sparkling...with a scale, slippers, and a nice heavy robe. I am a stickler about hotels and cleanliness and I like things how I like them and I liked everything. I guess if I had one suggestion...it would be to have a price guide for some of the alcohol in the room. There was a lot of it and even if price was no object...some people still want to know what cost what. I asked about a pricing list for my mom and they said they didnt have one. But overall...that didnt taint my stay at all. I was pleased and had a great birthday. I would definitely recommend.

Staff was great until checkout when they doubled the charge to my card and added on ~$300 in mini-bar costs to the bill. (I didnt take a single thing from the bar.) When I went to get the bill resolved, the manager was beyond impolite. He indicated double billing a guest was standard & didnt understand why I was acting like it was a big deal. He also refused to apologize. Giving 2 stars instead of 1 because really and truly everyone else at this hotel (porters, check-in staff, etc) provided beyond amazing customer service. But when ~$1700 is charged to your Visa for a ~$900 stay and the MANAGER of all people doesnt want to make it right, the hotel gets a bad review, Im sorry.

This was my go to spot. I stayed here a lot. Unfortunately it has gotten horrible. On June 27th, The room was so dirty. Red and yellow stains on my pillow and hairs in the bathroom and under the covers. Dirty dirty dirty. I tried to talk to the manager and they refused to give me a new room and also refused to refund my booking even though I had to move hotels. I have pictures. Thank you to the new Daxton hotel for accommodating us in the middle of the night.

When I first entered the building, I was absolutely shocked to see that there was a lobby full of people NOT wearing a mask, just chatting casually. And it was super crowded! I also don’t think the front desk staff was very welcoming - not necessarily rude, just not welcoming. I did mention these notes in a survey that came to my email and they called immediately to discuss my concerns. I do appreciate how responsive they were. They explained that there were people apparently dining in the lobby or something. Although I did not see anyone eating nor did I smell any food. But moving on, I marked down another star because the guests on our floor were EXTREMELY noisy so it was impossible to relax. The heater in our room is also extremely noisy and makes this loud sound every time it jumps on so I was unable to sleep because it scared me every single time it came on and turned off. And Our bathroom needs some updates.Lastly, the chocolate covered strawberries left in our room for our anniversary was a nice gesture. However, I don’t think that was the most sanitary way to go about things. We have no idea how long those strawberries were sitting out on that table uncovered. On a positive note, I do love the beautiful bouquet of roses we received in our room, and it was kind of them to leave a little card for us acknowledging our anniversary.Overall I just don’t think it was worth the money and I have no plans to return. There are many other hotels in the area that offer a SIGNIFICANTLY more pleasant experience for a much lower cost.

My car was damaged during my stay at the Townsend Hotel. I used the valet parking service. I was made to pay for the valet service because I was informed by Andrew that their surveillance cameras did not indicate that my car had been damaged by any valet or hotel personal. I usually stay at luxury hotels because when their is a problem, the staff at these hotels do everything they can to be make certain the customer is happy or satisfied. The Townsend did not do that because I left irritated, frustrated and treated unfairly. When valet returned my LEXUS SUV to me the tire was actually torn, there were scrapes and scratches around the rim of the car in relation to the damaged tire and scratches on the car door where there was damage to the tire. I explained to the hotel and valet personnel that I certainly did not drive my car into the Townsend hotel damaged. I left having to pay the valet fee, and with no compensation of ANY kind regarding fixing my car. The valet owner tried to get a new tire the day I discovered the damage but was unsuccessful. I ended up having to come home and purchasing a new tire at 486.79 and I also had to fund the body work that needed to be done to my car at an estimate of $1,016.29. Shame on the Townsend hotel for allowing me to leave their establishment without even working out a solution that would have at least left me satisfied. They are absolutely not the luxury hotel I thought they were and of course I will never stay there again. I am also submitting a request that my company no longer send clients nor our Executive staff to ever stay at this hotel again. I was expecting a mentality and hospitality of a Peninsula. I might have received better hospitality at the Holiday Inn up the street. And if you decide to stay here dont valet your car.

Beautiful plates, excellent service, and mouth watering options. In fact, it was the first Forbes recommended restaurant in the state. Not to mention, the whos who stays here when in town. Its not uncommon to spot a famous athlete, actor, or CEO walking through the lobby, enjoying afternoon tea, or dining in the restaurant.Every moment of your stay, meal, or event will be delightful. ***Unfortunately you did not contact me nor were you on the phone with me the day of reservation... We WERE NOT TOLD IT WOULD BE UPON AVAILABILITY or else we would have made reservations elsewhere. Why would I be upset if we were told this in advanced??? And as for your bull about the email.... Maybe you should update your system because we have received all types of advertisements from your system since reservation day ON BOTH EMAILS PROVIDED and yet no confirmation after asking for one three separate times on two separate phone calls.... SMH glad my management company doesnt operate like yours.Booked a king suite with a balcony a week prior to our stay for my 30th birthday. Got to the hotel and we received a room without a balcony (the only reason we chose this property). When we went down to ask about the confusion we were told that we could have gotten one upon availability.... Ummm you had the availability a week ago when I resereved it.... What happened? The room we got was nice but not anything special had a few minor things that didnt work. Not worth the amount of noney that we had to pay. I spent my birthday in a room I didnt like emailing the managing director about my unhappiness. No response as of yet. It is the weekend though so hmmmm. This is my second time at this place. The first time was nice but we did have a fire alarm go off at like 1 a.m. which lasted about 7 minutes. This property is more for people who dont care where or how their hard earned money gets spent. I expressed my feelings as much as I could without causing a scene and it got me no where. Thanks for ruining what was planned to be a great birthday.

High Tea at the Michigan Townsend Hotel was an excellent experience. The tea was an excellent in service, with a very attentive staff. Upon arrival, this hotel doesnt reveal how exceptional it is on the inside, it is beautiful, spacious, modern, and elegant. Our table was prearranged the fireplace in the lobby since the dining room was used for a similar tea for our car group. I have enjoyed high teas in England and this was a sweet reminder of how well the British do at creating a memorable tea time.We went with the tea option of added fruit and bottom mimosas. It was worth it as both are a stunning combination with the sandwiches. The sandwiches were clearly made; they were both tasty and presented with flare. My favorite was the one with pesto inside. The chocolate birthday cupcakes were exquisite and tasted freshly made. The formal door of a mans dressy attire is whimsical and says this is special. The fireplace sets the tone for a quiet tea and the rooms chandelier makes a statement of eloquence. It is a tad on the pricey side, but worth it when you really want a special memory. Plan sufficient time to find parking. For anyone is the US looking for a fun high tea, I recommend this one!

First time to the Townsend. They arent operating at 100% capacity yet, so expect some amenities to be limited. The hotel was clean as was the Luxury Suite we stayed in. Couldnt really use balcony because of the noise of neighboring buildings A/C units. We ordered room service for a late lunch after arriving. Rugby Grille (delivered an exceptional burger with truffle fries. Asked for ice for the room only to finally receive 3 hours later. Went out for the evening and came back expecting turn down service but it didnt happen. Bed was very comfortable. Room service was closed by 8pm but the receptionist managed to get me a glass of milk and sent Chris up to deliver. Chris even brought ice. Great employee. Ordered room service for breakfast. Was told it would be delivered in 20 minutes. After more than an hour goes by, we call back down to the desk and they told us there had been a mistake and no one made our order. About 15 minutes later, its finally delivered but missing items we ordered. I was surprised to see a charge for this meal on my bill for $110. A waffle (missing steak, bacon and extra butter, plate of hash/eggs, 2 OJs/2 Coffees) Tried to talk to desk receptionist but she was swamped by people checking in. We were already running late because of the breakfast delay and couldnt wait any longer. I can forgive 1 mistake, but to follow it up with another and still charge the guest is not the service of a 4 star hotel. Why can McDonalds get my breakfast order correct for $15, but a 4 star luxury hotel cant for $110? As a well seasoned traveler I know good hotel service. I wouldnt recommend this hotel at their current price points.

I went to The Townsend for a wedding shower and it was beautiful. The shower was held in the tea room and was a small, intimate event. There was delicious food that was traditional of an afternoon tea. Tiny sandwiches, mini desserts and a large scone (cranberry) with lemon curd and clotted cream. All of it was artfully prepared and presented. There were 3 little girls in attendance, my 3 yo included. They treated them all with respect and even brought a kid friendly meal for each of them of chicken tenders and fries. It was very special event and the service was excellent. They were very kind and accommodating. I was so impressed that I plan to make a reservation for afternoon tea again with a family member.

My grandparents stayed at the hotel in September. They made my elderly family carry their own luggage out. They couldn’t use the bath, they ended up with food poisoning and unfortunately they had a horrible experience. They stayed here before without issues, but this time was not a good experience. They also over charged them by nearly $200 a day over what was quoted 😢Thank you for your prompt reply, they did say they tried to tell people throughout their stay that there were issues. Grandma Maggie wrote a letter she said as well. The rooms were all booked which is fair enough, but they never received a confirmation with the fee and were slammed with a bill much higher than they were originally quoted. I have sent a message on Facebook with more information about my grandparent’s names and when they stayed. Something to reimburse them would be much appreciated as they were very upset with the situation and the lack of service. They aren’t ones that would normally complain so I was really upset when they told me how they had to use the sink to wash up and such.

Excellent location. Close to bars and restaurants. Extremely safe as the police station is literally next door. I’m not sure how and why this is considered a 4 star hotel. Maybe I’m just over privileged or something. The hotel room itself is just ok. The carpet in my room was filthy, there’s no ventilation in the bathroom at all, the walls are extremely thin and I could hear the guest above me all night moving chairs, moving his suitcase across the floor and I just didn’t like that. I got this room to sleep in until 11am without interruptions from my kid for once - didn’t happen with all the thin walls and flooring. There was also no bath tub or a room available with a bathtub, which isn’t anyone’s fault - just not my preference. Everything was just ok, I definitely would never pay full price to stay here again.

I was very disappointed with this stay. I have been staying at the Townsend for many years and always considered it a five-star hotel. The hospitality has dropped immensely. I called at 11 AM the day of arrive to see if I could get an early check-in. I spoke to Steve who said we could check in at 2pm without an issue. We arrived at 3:27pm to be met by a blond woman (whom I was later told is the manager). She was rude and short with me as if I was doing the Townsend a favor. I paid $750/night for an executive suite! It was obvious to everyone at the front desk how upset I was. She asked if she wanted me to store my luggage till 4pm. I told her that I would let her know once I calmed down because of her stinking attitude. I returned 3 min later and she was gone. I returned asking for a manger and nother manager seated at the end of the counter said he would help me. He got me keys and into our room within 5 min. But, that was it. No further attempt to make things right. No further attempt at hospitality. That was probably our last stay. They just don’t care.
