Im a tech for a different company and have been trying to get my parents to change providers to ANYONE else available. I ran a speed test and my CELLPHONE IS 30X FASTER THAN THE GWI INTERNET. I still have figured how many megabits theyve paying for (80+, including home phone) but 0.5 -1.8 MBPS is the best Ive gotten everything freezes or doesnt load. they keep telling my parents its the modem, theyve gotten new ones, same result. they like the customer service but the actual product is NOT WORTH IT.
I have had GWI for years in two locations of South Portland. I have never had service down even in the worst of weather, always had the best tech service with both professional and competent assistance. Always answered questions with patience and politeness no matter how dumb the question. I wholeheartedly recommend this company especially if you like good value.
Ive been with GWI for well over 13 years now. I like having locally provided service, and their tech department is on of the friendliest and most knowledgeable Ive personally. The price is straight forward, fair and carries no hidden fees. They have come to my home location several times to solve issues, always in a timely manner. I dont ever want to go with another provider, so I hope they stay with us in Maine for a good, looooong time! Thank you, GWI!
This is the worst internet for business not only are you in a 3 year contract we disconnected our service to go with a faster service only to find out that they could have offered us faster broadband service but heaven forbid someone would take the time to call and ask us if we wanted to switch over and being a business we needed faster internet service. The bite the hand that feeds them so all I can say is good luck our 3 year us up and were off to a better thing from someone else. We were waiting for our final update to our our last bill so we could make a final payment and we get a letter from the Thomas agency wrre in collections. I never even heard from anyone so if your thinking about going local dont go here youll regret it.
I have had GWI for about 3 months now, they have been wonderful for tech support, you can always reach a person, that is understandable, and understands you. The service is great. There where a few glitches that needed working out in the beginning, after that, smooth sailing, no interruptions, and fast speed. The price is reasonable, that is why I switched, other companys charge so much more, and are constantly increasing. I was told by a GWI worker that it may go up from time to time for taxes etc.. But nothing like the other companys. I am proud to recommend this to anyone, a friend told me about it and I am so happy he did!
I think this is the one of the worst internet services I have used. It is slow and most the time not even working. It is down way more than it is up. The pricing is way to high for the internet I am getting
Local and friendly company that delivers. You call and you get someone picking up in Biddeford. Ive never had an issue and am completely satisfied with my service. The gentleman who installed my router worked with my condo associations building to get me hooked up and running within minutes. Internet in Maine is tricky but these folks will help you from pulling your hair out (unlike some big box company in the area).
Avoid them at all costs. The service not working is practically a daily occurence at this point, support is also rarely helpful and says anything to shift the blame onto your equipment. They once told me the issue was my router, so I plugged my computer into the modem instead, and it was the same speed! I called back and told them this, and they said something must just be wrong with my computer, despite the speed still being terrible on other devices. And the worst part, for years now I was trying to figure out how my dad was paying so much for such terrible speed, and it turned out that in the 3 years of us getting 8 megabits per second, we were paying for 20 MEGABITS! Less than half of the speed we were paying for for 3 YEARS. And support never ONCE mentioned this when I asked what our max was supposed to be or tried to get our speeds up, they always reset it to 8 megabits every time. This company is a joke. Again, AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS, YOU WILL GET RIPPED OFF.

This company is wonderful. You dont have to pay 100+ dollars a month for service and when things arent working they are splendid when fixing it! Seriously, no bajillion minute hold times like other companies alone is worth it. Im crossing my fingers for fiber optic to make it about 3 more blocks north in South Portland and Ill be all set.
Horrible!! Have been a loyal customer for almost a year now never missed a payment but some how they have in their system I never paid for April even tho I have the receipt in my email!!!!!! So when may bill came in it was 112$ first of all if I missed a whole month why is the WiFi still on????? Makes no since to me! Then when I tried to resolve the issue Sarah one of the reps wants to give me an attitude an hang up the phone on me! I definitely canceled my services with them an will be taken my money where i am respected ! Horrible horrible customer service ! If I could they’d get no stars
After being a customer for more than ten years the service got so bad I had to switch. The internet was out more than it was working. It would take weeks to fix issues and they still wanted to be paid in full regardless of how often it was down. I switched to Spectrum back in September and notified GWI I was terminating their service. They still charged my card in October... I called and was told I still had to pay October but that would be it...and then they charged me in November... I called and was told they would look into it. I never received my money back. Yesterday they again charged my account for the month of December. I called yet again and this time they told me I had never canceled my account...then acknowledged I had called in October but they wanted to know who I spoke to (I didn’t know), a couple of minutes later she acknowledged I had called and spoken to her in Oct (so why ask me who I spoke with) but said I only called about keeping my phone number. Why would I ask about my phone number if I still had their service? She informed me they would cancel my service but they would not be returning any of my money because they had no record of my calls. I asked for her name (since they asked me who I had spoken to last time) and she told me she was not going to give me that information. I asked to speak to her manager and she put me on hold for a long time, then informed me he wasn’t available but he would call me back. Big surprise...no call back. Horrible internet service and the “customer service” is worse! Stay away from this company!

Ive had this service for almost a year now and havent had any issues. I have a laptop, a cell phone, and my son has a phone for games and internet runs well for us. I am always am able to reach someone when I call. Very happy with this service and for the fact that I am not restricted to only Time Warner Cable

Ive had GWI for many years for both phone and internet in a number of different locations both for business and personal use. They have always been great to work with. I can count on one hand the number of times Ive even needed support in at least 15 years! Billing is consistent and has remained the same for 10 years at my home. After reading all of these negative reviews, I was concerned because I needed to make a tech call. The associate I spoke with was extremely professional and helpful, and was able to diagnose and solve my issue. I would, and do, recommend GWI to anyone who needs service! I have purchased a slower internet speed and it supports our whole family of 4 on devices, with 2 streaming simultaneously. Although the speeds are slower, you are not sharing bandwidth with everyone else on your street. Thanks, GWI! Im looking forward to FIBER!
The problem with GWIs phone & internet service is that theyre selling something they cant deliver. Maybe its their fault and maybe its Consolidateds (Fair Point) fault, I have no idea. Consolidated owns the copper wire, GWI sells us a service that (usually) runs on that wire. When theres a problem, the two companies blame each other while the customer goes without. We went with them because we had a few friends who worked there but once our friends left, we noticed that they quickly dropped GWI. Eventually, GWI finally admitted that they were never going to be able to make us happy and we left.Two stars instead of one because there are some really nice people there who honestly tried to help, but they werent able to.
When I first had gwi was good. 4 years ago. I would have issues and they would fix it. Now when you call they have to escalate to tier 2. Not open till Monday. They always say its my router. My google on hub. No. Its not that. Its your crappy service. But its ok! Im loosing money because I cant work. But On the fourth when I have to pay and Ill be short money. You wont work with except once every 6 months. Ill have to be in a worst spot. Because Ill have to pay you. Your technical support is useless.
Live in Dover Foxcroft. Our service is so bad. Im begging my husband to change. Im so sick of our tv shows pausing and the lips not matching when they talk. Its taking us two + hours to watch a hour long show. We keep getting there is no internet at this time. Im so over GWI.ITS BEEN FIVE HOURS THAT I POSTED THE ABOVE POST. I AM STILL RESTARTING MY ROKU DUE TO NO INTERNET. WHAT THE HECK.SO TICKED OFF. THIS IS THE WORST ITS EVER BEEN. ARE THEY HAVING MORE PROBLEMS THEN THEY USUALLY DO?

It has been only a few weeks but very happy so far. Had some issues initially setting up our internet service and everyone from Tech Support to customer service was very helpful in helping us.
Wow, was considering switching from Spectrum to GWI but wont in light of the recent negative reviews I just read. I cant provide any feedback as Im not a customer of GWI but the customers they do have really indicate they are headed in the wrong direction. I thought the support from Spectrum (TWC) was horrid, seems its no different with GWI which is unfortunate.
Ive had them since 1995 and very good Tech help. Ive had a few problems like any internet company. You call them and they usually are there the next day or same day for service.
.71mb down, .21mb up. What a sham!..paying for 10X that amount. Maybe 20 phone calls over the last two years for service, with little to no support. Have tons of photos of speed tests.
Excellent customer service - that alone makes them way better than Comcast, TWC, etc that Ive had in the past. The fiber internet is quite fast.
13-year customer, in town Portland. They had a good product and service, which have both been failing lately. They dont automatically update software/ports for older accounts, so youll have downtime when it fails. And the downtime could be several days, as mine was. When I asked the tech who finally came out, he mentioned they were short-staffed because another tech was on vacation. So instead of hiring a fill-in, they just let the customer hang. Great business model.After you regain service, you will have to request a credit due to downtime, as no one will reach out to you to do so. According to one employee I spoke with, Like many companies, we are trying to do more with less.Ive heard from one long-time employee that GWI is aware of their image problem and is in process of addressing similar customer concerns.
I rely on my home Internet connection every day as a web developer, and finding a company thats both reliable and responsive is crucial for me. GWI has been that company. After years of dealing with frustrating support and periodic downtime with a competitor, I decided to try GWI based on the recommendation from a friend. The connection is extremely reliable, and the speed is consistently fast.But its not just the Internet connection. If I ever need to talk with someone for billing or have a technical question, theres typically a live, human voice within a minute or two of when I dial my phone; the representatives are friendly and are great at helping resolve issues quickly.Give GWI a try. I bet youll be impressed.

Using gwi for internet and phone in a business in Ellsworth. The phone service is down monthly. Getting thru on the phone for service is a 30 minute ordeal. Asking for replacements for phone which do not work will be ignored. Currently looking for a better, more consistent service.
Awful customer service, sale department did not care much after customer paid for the service. Internet is expensive for the speed they offer, advertising about new technology while selling out old tech for a new price.Had to call 3 times to cancel the service. Ignorant company, even TWC are way better. GWI is a worst I ever used.

Absolute fraud. You pay money to get high speed internet and you get 5 mbps download speed, along with a 156.5 kbps upload speed. This company is a absolute disgrace and a absolute joke. I wouldnt pay $1 a month for this garbage.
As someone who requires a reliable internet for both work, school and leisure, I am very fortunate that my family discovered GWI when they did. Their speeds and service are unmatched. In the incredibly rare circumstances there is a problem, they are always happy to help in a heartbeat.Additionally, their organization is a long-time supporter of net neutrality and have time and again reached out to congress to promote a better internet for all.If you live in an area that is covered by this ISP, I highly recommend them!
WORST Provider Ever. There is a reason that their google score is only 2.8. GWI internet service is awful and they put clauses in their contract that requires you to pay an additional month even after your contract ends. Total rip-off. Never use this company.
I had GWI DSL for 2 1/2 years and it was nothing but trouble. Connectivity was a recurring problem. Even worse, GWI customer service ignored my many efforts to address this with them, and failed to even acknowledge there WAS a problem. They ignored me in every way, but faithfully bill me $39.95 every month. I switched to Time Warner Cable / Roadrunner about a year ago and havent had a single problem since. GWI is the pits.
I have never had a problem with GWI, indeed, good service compared to the major providers.
From my experience, GWI does provide very good customer service on the phone. Everyone was very nice and tried their best to alleviate issues. The problem was, the issues would then never be addressed. I was paying for the 20 Mbps package and was expecting relatively fast internet. Instead, I would frequently get very slow internet, around 0.5-1.0 Mbps, as measured by their internet speed tests, and could barely load webpages. They did come many times to inspect my router/the power lines, but each time suggested there was nothing more that could be done to fix the problem. If you can avoid GWI, I would suggest doing so, although the alternatives in the Portland area dont seem to be much better.
Customer service was extremely rude when we called about setting up a date for service. Lost our business before they even got it.
For an ISP internet reseller, the one thing they should nail is customer service and its appalling. Just use Fairpoint cut out the middle man.
GWI has been our ISP and landline service for several years now -- love buying local, love the price, love the speed, and the one time we had an issue with service, the response was immediate and thorough. I wont use the big national companies and am so glad I live in an area that I can use GWI!
School uses GWI and the phones go down nearly monthly or bi-monthly! If our schools have GWI for internet, then thatd explain the sucky internet connections and speeds.I had GWI nearing 20 years ago, and they sucked back then too! They were over-prices back in the day. They charged my ex-husband nearly $500 in bad phone service after I cancelled service within a month, and they continued to charge him while we had NEW service through someone else. Wow. And he paid the bill, rather than disputing it, as I told him to do!!On top of all this... My in-laws put GWI service in my stepdaughters name at their residence when she was barely an adult and NOT living with them. My daughter contacted them and told GWI that she hadnt known about this service, or she would of cancelled it, because her grandparents DID NOT have permission to use her name! Now, several years later, Grandparents have passed on, and my stepdaughter is stuck with a bill that she didnt know about, until it was too late!! ((the bill is past due by several years, I believe))...Theres 3 different perspectives for ya! -_-
I have had GWI for over 20 years. The past few years we have had repeated problems during which they have blamed the phone company, our router, the modem, us, their modem, the DSL filter... etc. The past several weeks the internet connection has deteriorated to where we finally had to call them for help... we waited because it is such an ordeal. They sent a modem, and said the router was a problem, although when we lose the internet and turn the modem off and on again it will recover to at least painfully slow... we have connected the computer directly to the new modem they sent. The phone company came to our house and tested the lines as we watched and explained what was happening and the result was that the phones lines were fine... it is a problem with GWIs gear. I called GWI to see what they thought was the problem and they didnt have any idea that the phone company came here. Still no or only brief internet... oh they talked us through unplugging and plugging the modem back in to fix it... like we havent done that a thousand times already. Today I called the service number to see if they have any information and the technician, Debbie, reported that all she had on the account was that they sent a modem. There was no further information and no other indication that we were even having a problem with internet service but she told me shed put in note we were having trouble. This is probably the worst single customer service experience Ive had in all of my 63 years!!! It is deplorable. I am not only looking for another internet provider, I will also be contacting the Public Utilities Commission which happens to be just down the block from my office.
Poor internet service in South Portland with frequent service interruptions. When I cancelled service continued to bill for 2 months. All around bad experience. Don’t bother with GWI.
