The gym and pool facilities were nice; no complaints about that part.I was discouraged with the staff as I set a specific end date to my membership because I was leaving Pittsburgh for the military (active duty). When I got out of my basic training (2 months later after having no access to internet/phone/etc), I found that my membership wasnt canceled as they told me it would be. I was charged for an additional 2 months and would not be refunded for the two months of membership that I was charged. Additionally, there was no contract/term that stated the minimum membership time, so contractually they had no grounds for charging me the extra 2 months of membership besides their incompetency.
Great facility, the only downside I see is closing at 5pm on Friday and closing on Sunday, otherwise it is very nice. Not sure if the hours change in the winter months.
My step father and I do the Y-Princess program. lost 50 pounds as a 9 year old (Im not 9 anymore obvi) but I was 170 before! Everyone was so kind and I live close to it. They keep to pool decently clean. And the lifeguards are always on high alert! I would recommend!
This is safe and nice facility. The pool is amazing! Gym equipment is pretty good too!
No one even showed up on a Saturday morning to open this facility for a hockey game that was scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. and, when they finally did open, LiveBarn was not broadcasting the game. Tried calling, but no one would answer the phone.
They charge full price for 80% service. The close early and on Sundays.
Will not renew my family gym membership as the place is filthy and the employees are ignorant. The other members are even miserable and I have more weights in my basement. Also pulled my son out of the hockey organization as the rink has made no upgrades in years and my son almost lost his finger opening up the door as they have had no lever in it for years. Again, very ignorant staff.
If you want to tell people that you own a membership at a gym then this is the perfect place for you! If you want to be able to lift weights and make alpha gains then I do not suggest this gym owners are clueless about lifting and try to tell you that you dont know what you are doing ! People get mad about noise when they come in here and walk for 5 minutes on the treadmill.....
We love this location. The only downside we are having is the availability of the full facility. We joined specifically for the gym so our kids can play basketball while we workout and recently the gym has been rented out so there isnt a whole lot for them to do. Outside of that, the equipment is great!
Though lacking in some weight lifting equipment, its hard to knock it for whats its not specialized for. The facility is fantastic and the place is always crazy clean for a gym like this. Always a quick in and out for workouts. Seems super family friendly with an open basketball court and daycare for parents.
Awesome rink since its been renovated. Locker rooms are clean and well maintained.
Place is amazing. Never had a bad moment. Staff are incredible. Classes are awesome. Its got a ice rink and I’ve never seen a Y with that before “ mind blow . Excellent for the community. Smells like Mr.Clean products. Very satisfied family here!
Great skate. Thanks for getting things going again.
Clean, all new equipment, good amenities. With membership you can use any Pittsburgh area Y. Good class variety, but the ones Id like the most dont fit into my schedule. Pool is great for kids!! Locker rooms are fine, but being by the pool floor can get wet.
The only rink in Pittsburgh which does not allow parents to watch their kids play hockey. The YMCA is in bed with the governor.
This place makes me massive 🥶💯
The facility is brand new along with the equipment. The people at the front are typically very pleasant. I’m surprised that after the amount of money they spent on this facility there was no steam shower. I had brought the kids to swim during an open time as per their schedule in the family area and was told we were not allowed to use an area because of a lesson. After asking management they said they were not allowed to do that, but it had happened a couple of times. So there seems to be a communication breakdown. Most recently my credit card was renewed, so my payment did not go through. They called me, but due to work, kids and just being busy. I hadn’t had time to go up and give the correct info. It had been 2.5-3 weeks. I just received a letter threatening to turn me into the credit collections for $72.00 and also a threatening phone call. This is how a family centered business acts.
How can it get any better!!! Staff is great- polite - helpful and always appreciated
Very clean and follows all CDC guidelines strictly 👍
Im really surprised by all the negative reviews. We have been members since they opened and my family loves it. The people in the Kid Care know my kids, the swim lessons my kids took last summer were great, the facility is always clean and the staff is friendly.
Steer clear of this place if you have kids because a teenage lifeguard feels its necessary to act like a A-hole to children under 5. You know, instead of acting like a human being. If a business cannot even hire decent personnel that can reflect their reputation in the public eye, then they will never have your best interest in mind. Only whats in your wallets.
I have been a member all my life, coast to coast: CA-MO-WI-IL-OH- and now here in PA; despite its being only two years old, this facility and most importantly patrons are the absolute worst; first- who was he genious that had made it so.small. _ I understand it was converted from a warehouse but still... Second, people take their opposite gender kids to locker rooms with them out of convenience, RUDE (ALSO illegal?); Then _ people come to take showers w/out doing anything else (put of frugality (?))_ insane! Bottom line; I have switched to JCC and never looked back.
Normal rink w vending machines
The gym equipment is brand new, as is the entire building. However, they shouldve put more thought into the locker rooms. The floors are always wet and the decor, or lack of, makes it look like a cheap high school locker room. Its also very expensive at $54 per month. Now that includes everything like child care, group classes and use of the gym and pool, but still seems steep.
Excellent facilities and great overall experience. Staff is very helpful as well!
We recently joined and today was our first day. I took Zumba and the kids went to the kids play area. I loved the class and the instructor was amazing! Loved her. Was a very fun class. After, my 3 kids and I used the pool. Water was warm and there were floats and small duckies that the kids loved. My one complaint was a swim instructor who was giving private lessons the whole time. We asked to use the noodles and googles and when my 4 year old reached for one she yelled at him that she was using this for a lesson that she was giving. I was taken aback by how angry she got. The whole time she would glare at any kids that happened to come near her. Then, we were using the kick board and I was showing my seven year old how to swim and he was kicking from one end to the other and I was watching. He was tried to swim around the back of her while yelling.. excuse me. She literally stopped holding two tiny kids to turn around and scream at him that they were there swimming and what is wrong with him that he would try to swim on top of kids. He got so upset and swam away crying. He kept saying to me I’m so sorry and I didn’t know I was swimming too close to them. I wanted to do swim lessons foru kids but now I’m worried that they would be set up with someone who is so hateful and unprofessional. Just be careful who your child ended up being paired with.
Excellent Facility, New Equipment, Very Bright Machine Workout Area, Basketball Court, Two Swimming pools (Lap & General Purpose).
Me and my fiancee joined primarily for the pool and have had terrible experiences with the teenage life guards. They seem bothered and are unhelpful.Theres a lap pool and a family pool, and they run classes in the early evening. If you want a swim after work make sure to check the schedule. The Y is connected to the high school, be aware that teenagers frequent the pools so competiton is pretty high.If you dont care about the pools you might enjoy the workout area, but the machines seem a little sparse. We didnt check out the ice rink or cycling course. Were probably canceling our membership because of the pool, if thats a deal breaker for you then there are better options.
We decided to give Spencer Family YMCA a chance at swim lessons. Three weeks and my child has had ONE full lesson. They are always running late. Each week he has a different teacher. There is no consistency.
Amazing facility !!!! Wish all YMCA’s where this nice.
Recently built. Great facilities
Very clean and well maintained facility.
The facility smells like stinky feet.
Great Facility for the Entire Family
