I took in my broken vacuum cleaner to get a fix estimate; 20 minutes later I walked out with a working unit. These guys are very good and exceptionally reasonable in price in this day and age. I highly recommend them.
Great place my grandma said they even came out to the car and brought both my machines in fixed right then and there. And put them back in her car. Thank you for helping my grandma. She said they are fairly priced too
Great service. Quick turnaround. A little out of the way but worth it!
BEYOND HORRIBLE! The new owner could not locate my sewing machine pressure foot, I paid for with the previous business owner. When I insisted she contact him, she had a changing list of excuses, continued ignoring me, and helped four customers who came in the store after me. One of those customers was an older man without a facemask, she made time to immediately fix his sewing machine at the counter. Then told me I was rude for insisting she needed to contact the prior owner before continuing to help other customers. At my insistence, she begrudgingly took my phone number acting as if she was doing me a favor. This is not an essential business and a bad actor when other businesses are grateful for income. She was loud, belligerent, and downright crazy (so am I, but I still paid my money). This company rents sewing machines, it would have been prudent to provide me with a loaner until locating the part. Sans MBA, seeing a customer walk through the door in (a first responder) uniform is an opportunity to develop a long term income source. Check this space, same time next year to see if it is still a viable business. This business is not a fit for the downtown Berkeley community especially during a global pandemic.
Very happy. I brought my Miele in on a Friday afternoon, and they said repairs might take a week. But it was ready the next day, for only $100 (it’s a $500+ machine, & dear to my neatnik heart). Plus, they always have the right bags available, & they don’t try to push new vacuums on you when the old one temporarily... uh... bites the dust.
My question is, those whove used this service recently, were you charged a deposit?? This company was small, family owned, affordable, professional and understood good business. My mother has used their service for years. We took our vacuums there to be charged a really expensive amount for to be serviced. I mean weve taken SEVERAL vacuums prior for an array of reasons; never charged anything near that amount. This company is not sounding anything like the service we remember, or what service should be.
Very knowledgeable and helpful! And they dont oversell!
If there were more stars to award Berkeley Vacuum Center, I would award them. I cant say enough about how incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, patient the owner of this center was. He offered many options, with willingness for creative options, should the initial option not work.Street meter parking in front of center. If I lived in the area, this would be my go to place for vacuum, carpet cleaner & sewing machine repair!
Very professional sewing machine repair service. My machine is a vintage Singer that was gifted to me when my friend moved, so I wanted to make sure it was running smoothly before going to town on sewing projects. I called ahead to find out about tune up pricing, and they told me they dont have a set rate because every machine is different and in need of individual service, but they do free estimates. This was great to hear, so I brought it in.The man was who checked out my machine was very professional. First he looked up the model and told me about it. Then he careful checked each major part. Fortunately, it was in really good shape, so I brought a simple cleaning service to make sure there wasnt any major lint build up and get the main moving parts oiled, etc.I spent approximately 20 minutes in the shop, and I am more informed, my machine is running quietly, and I never felt rushed. I highly recommend this place. It was a great experience.
Old style vacuum and swing machine shop with a great selection. I first went in expecting they wouldnt have anything in my budget, but they had the perfect vacuum for me for around $150. They also have replacement parts when you need them and knife sharpening services.
If you need a sewing machine, I can HIGHLY recommend Berkeley Vacuum (and SEWING) Center. They have new and used machines. I bought a Necchi on a good sale and when it jammed up about a year later (mostly because I didnt know what I was doing), they very happily dug in and fixed it (just needed cleaning) for no charge and showed me how to take care of it myself in future. Family business and they love their machines - wouldnt hesitate to recommend this spot. I found it by getting several recommendations from the quilters I have met in the East Bay.
Nice employees, very small mom and pop type shop so the hours are kind of strange. Fixed my grandmas old Bernina, although it took over a week longer than they had expected.
Good customer service
I took in my vintage Bernina that had suddenly stopped working due to the motor. I specifically told them not to touch the inside mechanics because that was working perfectly, just to replace the motor. When I took the machine home, it soon stalled because the gears were not meshing correctly. They also said they fixed a plate over the bobbin, but the needle (which they had put in backwards) wasnt catching stitches. Again, I had not asked for this repair. When I called, I got a lot of mixed explanations and was told to bring it back in for a cleaning. Clearly, the Jim just wanted to make more money. And given he said the repair man had 25 years of experience repairing Bernina but didnt know how to thread the machine and didnt test it before returning, I was not about to bring it back to them. Highly unprofessional. I now have to have problems that they created with my machine fixed.
Not what it use to be! Grand Lake sew repair much more professionally knowledgeable and takes time to serve your needs.
The best! My first visit was to have my vacuum cleaner looked at - Presto! all my problems were corrected. Next., I brought a clients ancient/antique sewing machine in and they got it working! Plus - they fixed his vacuum cleaner. These guys can fix anything - and they are great guys, fair pricing and easy parking. Bring quarters.
I brought my Oreck vacuum in for repair and the gentleman looked at it right away and fixed it! Thought I would have to leave it. Happy to give my business to a long time Berkeley store.
A tremendous resource, these guys are vacuum experts who can help you with anything vacuum related.
I dont know anything else about this place other than the following:I made two calls to them. In the first, I asked about their top 5 upright vac recommendations. They gave me three and, when I asked some followup questions, I got a few answers, but was then, as I recall, told to come in and was directed to their website for more information about vacuums. When I went to the site, there was a list of two vacuum brands they carry and pix of several brand name logos, but NO information about them. I felt underserved in the call.I did obtain a used Riccar, their top brand recommendation. It needs filters. I just got off the phone with Berkeley Vac, who quoted me $30 for a set of vac filters, which is $3 more than each of three other shops, and a LOT more than the $12 I was just quoted by another shop close to me in San Rafael, which is matching an online price (P&L Vacuum). Conclusion: Impatient salesman not willing to give me full info the first time and who misdirected me to their website for more non-existent info. Second call: Overpriced parts. I wont be going there.
Great customer service, great machine.. and they gave me a ride home!I bought my Babylock from here when my son was a few months old. I knew that hemming pants and sewing on knee patches were in my future. I barted to Berkeley Vacuum & Sewing from work. They let me try several machines with lots of different fabrics. They were also very knowledgeable about the strengths and weaknesses of each machine. They showed me how to use the auto button-hole feature! This itself was a marvel. I bought the display Babylock machine at a great price. But I didnt have a way to bring the machine home (about 1 mile walk away). I was going to walk.. and take lots of breaks. When the owner heard this... he decided to drive me home! Wow.. what a wonderful thing for them to do. I was a new mom and deeply exhausted. This meant a lot. Thank you!
These guys are FANTASTIC! Jim examined and tried to fix a part on my no longer available vacuum. He wasnt able to fix it, but did the research for me to get parts myself and REFUSED to let me pay him for his time. He spent about 45 minutes trying to make it work. I will use this company to fix anything I can in the future. COMPLETELY trust worthy. I cant say nice enough things about them. THANK YOU JIM!
Great service, fast repair, always come to these folks.
I walked in with some basic knowledge of what I was looking for in terms of my household (wood floors, no dogs, etc.) but the employee I spoke with was extremely knowledgeable in every detail of every model. He also did a great job of boiling down all the technical facts into some basic comparisons of what I would need, versus what someone else might need. All in all, I walked out feeling not only confident in my purchase, but also educated in how to buy what will suit my needs in the future.Ive since used the vacuum and it works in every way I need it to. I think the employee literally picked the best possible vacuum for my situation. I didnt catch his name, but regardless, I want to thank him and the business as a whole for being such a valuable resource. Its easy to get tricked into buying a crappy appliance, especially with brick-and-mortar stores dying out so rapidly, but deception and ignorance is the exact opposite of what I found here.
My go-to sewing machine repair, and attachments purveyor. Lots of inexpensive used machines available.
Great selection of vintage sewing machines.
Nice place and service.
Professional, competent, helpful, friendly.
Solid local service.
